Rollergames (NES) Playthrough

- A playthrough of Ultra's 1990 license-based beat 'em up for the NES, Rollergames.
Rollergames, Konami’s contribution to the blitz of marketing and merchandising accompanying the first (and only) season of the 1989 TV show of the same name, brings all of the cheese and drama of extreme skating home to the NES, complete with an endorsement from WAR (World Alliance of Rollersports).
Feeling like a cross between Skate or Die: Bad ‘N Rad ( • Skate or Die: Bad 'n R... ) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game ( • Teenage Mutant Ninja T... ), Rollergames is a beat 'em up that throws quite the assortment of thugs and obstacles in the way of our playable three roller derby champions. Because if punching people in the face while rollerskating isn't violent enough to excite the kids, why not spice things up with flamethrowers, wrecking balls, biker gangs, and attack choppers?
Elevating the show’s already ludicrous scenarios to a whole new level of absurdity, Rollergames takes the action out of the studio and into the streets. A terrorist organization known as V.I.P.E.R. (Vicious International Punks and Eternal Renegades) has kidnapped the Rollergames’ commissioner and recruited three Rollergames teams - Bad Attitudes, Maniacs, and the Violators - to do their bidding in a nefarious plot to take over of the city.
At the beginning of each stage, you can choose which of the three stars from the show (Ice Box of the Thundercats, Hot Flash of Rolling Thunder, and the California Kid from the Rockers) to play as, and since “the CIA and FBI lack the speed, cunning and sheer brute force for this job,” it's up to these guys to save the commissioner, the city, and the sanctity of their beloved sport.
The platforming elements and the way movement focuses on momentum and turning angles all give it quite a different feel from TMNT 2 and Bayou Billy, but the usual belt-scrawler staples are here. You have several moves at your disposal, including the standard punches, jump kicks, character-specific specials, and my favorite - you can punch someone in the head to stun them, grab them by the hair, and fling them across the screen to their death. Good stuff!
The graphics are great, the music rocks (it sounds a lot like the Bayou Billy soundtrack), the controls are solid (though it takes a bit to get used to the physics), and premise is hilariously excessive. So long as your cool with the stiff level of difficulty Konami games are known for, there's a lot of fun to be found in Rollergames.

Rollergames feels like Konami smushed TMNT 2, Bayou Billy, and Skate or Die: Bad 'N Rad together. It's pretty great 👍
That's good, I wonder if you also play the bad NES games?
and Metal Gear
and Batman Returns
Maybe so 😂 but it worked out though ..right 👏🏻
You can't deny that classic Konami sound either! Soothes the 8-Bit soul!
@@nathannightmare1604Oh man, check out my NES playlist. You'll see I'm no stranger to the dark side of the NES library.
19:56 You had to have lived in Orange County back in the 80's and 90's, and watched a lot of KDOC-TV back in the day, to know who that was. That was Wally George, who was something of an early version of Rush Limbaugh.
It looks like Double Dragon & TMNT combined with the sport of Roller Derby; I love it!
My all time favorite team at 0:50

When everything had a licensed tie-in. From Bebe's Kids to a surf shop in Hawaii.
Wow! I never knew that there was a video game based on the RollerGames TV series, whose commerical I saw on the Pay Per View channel when I was a kid. I was still too young to remember it, because I used to play on roller skates in elementary school in the early 90s. So many memories. "I want my Rock and RollerGames" indeed.
It would be funny to imagine someone going through the old NES library not knowing what Rollergames was in the 80s. They're probably expecting some kind of sports game, only to find out it's a platforming beat-em-up like Double Dragon or something.
Some of these games were like the video game equivalent of a stoner opening the fridge and then making a weird-ass meal out of everything that'll fit in the microwave.
Ah college, where I learned that chocolate ganache doesn't go well with blue cheese dressing.
Whoa, for a minute after the first bite, the box fan at my feet was speaking sensual Slavic and the windows were juggling sparkles onto the lawn. And a second later, I was face-first on my bed just wondering if that was really ketchup I sprinkled onto my celery.
@@NintendoComplete The channel is very good, congratulations.

Konami made some awesome NES games. Loved their graphics and colors, music.
Still have this game. Had Lots of trouble trying to figure out how the beat 2nd Boss. Glad got to see whole thing.
Between this game, the arcade version, and of course the tv show I enjoyed the franchise as a whole.
I remember only getting to play the pinball version. Never got to play the arcade version nor the NES version. Had a thing to do called “college”😅
Great game of the Konami Golden years ❤
This game is my jam, love it. Having first played it after a decades-long NES hiatus, it kicked my ass around for a while.
Big dude was steam rolling everything 💪🏿🚂
This game looks good. Shane i never got to play this one back in the day.
Rollergames is a sensational game, with spectacular graphics and sounds. It reminds me so much of my adolescence. Great gameplay, congratulations.
Quite liked this one back in the day. It's quite tough, but nothing unsurmountable; it can still kick your butt. The soundtrack is great and it plays fairly well for the most part too, though it's a bit slippery sometimes. Overall, I enjoyed it. Konami had some solid offerings back in that era.
Game looks hilarious. Can't believe i never knew about it.
I remember PlayItBogart roasting the hell out of this game in 2006.
BULLSHIT! BULLSHIT! BOB SAGET!
Good times, man.
@@VahanNisanian Oh yeah, when he couldn’t get through the “bullshit cave”.
Wish they could have added a separate storyline where you could play as the "bad teams" and/or the actual Rollergames event. Harold "Mr. Mean" Jackson was by far the best of the skaters on the show and it would be nice to play as him.
Красиво пройдено. Особенно момент перед последним боссом, когда в комнату удалось заехать на тайминге со значением 007. Прям символизм какой-то! Момент хронометража на 18:30
Thanks! That stage was a huge pain in the ass to learn.
@@NintendoComplete Вся эта игра настоящий хардкор) Ещё раз спасибо за прохождение без смертей, это дорогого стоит.
Who here remembers the ultra campy Saturday AM TV show?
While I wasn't even thought of back then, I really wish they made a *16-bit version of **_Rollergames_* on the *S.N.E.S.* in the early 1990's.
-- Edit(s):
• 【2:53】 *"The Botton Line" - David Lee Roth, **_Skyscraper_** (1988)*
• *"Back in Time"* - *Huey Lewis and the News, the **_Back to the Future_** Original Soundtrack (1985)*
Cool game!

An oldie but an absolute goodie ❤
Hot Flash.....LMAO !
This isn't as bad as I thought it would be, I mean I've been getting into some retro games and this one wasn't as bad as skate or die
Contra sounds mixed with double dragon fighting
oh my god 😂
ive heard a lot of what an under rated game this is N is actually a lot of fun! with the title kinda not repping the game properly 😅❤
definitely looks like TMNT, especially the female character in the yellow jumpsuits looks like april 😂
4 on the floor
Are you ever going to do Terranigma?
8:03, butts up and heads down in the water! It's like shooting cyber ducks in a barrel.
I now realized that sounded VERY wrong indeed.
14:24, I like to live on the EEEEEDGE.
15:47, don'tcha mean 'HAS'? 0_-
18:39, Double Dragon 2? Ok...?
The game's end, now where's Marian?! Oh wait..wrong game. X_X
【2:53】 *"The Bottom Line"* - *David Lee Roth, **_Scyscraper_** (1988)*
This game was hard but on the same token... it just doesn't stay true the actual show.
A Rollergames brawler video game, and you never fight Rollergator? Boooo!
