You spent most of the match running round after Ted Debiase, whereas in a real match he'd have left the ring with IRS for a count out defeat to keep the belts.
The orginal Wrestlemania game was the best! This is the first time I've remembered or ever thought of this game since I was a kid! Such a pleasant feeling during this time. Thank you so much for this!!!
I remember playing Wrestlemania with my brother when it was released. It was terrible even for the time. We went back to NES Pro Wrestling soon after. I never did buy another WWF game on the NES. Tecmo World Wrestling was great and WCW was decent. This came out at a great time, as I was just looking at picking up Steel Cage and King of the Ring the other day, as I never played them, but I now see that isn't a great idea. Great video.
Wrestlemania Challenge was awesome because in tag matches you could order your CPU controlled tag partner to attack. I think the select button did it but I'm not sure how. I remember you could order them to jump in the ring and attack or go outside and attack the other partner. It was hilarious.
I loved the music in this, and only recently realized that one of the songs I liked so much was actually the theme music for the tag team "Strike Force".
Hogan: "see I'm not racist, my video game character is black" - 7:06 And you got Razor Ramon looking like Lord Farquaad - 11:02 Great videos dude, you do an amazing job bud. You touch parts of my childhood the priests wish they could reach.
Yokozuna was bright yellow! Vintage games are hilarious and awesome but some dont age to well, I personally find it hilarious but some wont 🤣 Great content.
Fun part about WrestleMania challenge is playing 2 player mode vs CPU. Teaming with brother. Then jumping in the ring and beating up tag partner. Pissing off brother irl
Another great video. Eastridge Technologies also did the Game Boy version of King Of The Ring and that one was also solid. It's quite literally the NES version in the palm of your hands.
My experience of playing WrestleMania challenge as a young kid: Get thrown out of ring or leave by accident. Get back in by accident or get counted out. Repeat.
I laughed at that Roddy Piper / Undertaker cage match. I can imagine what the audience reaction would have been if that match had taken place in real life.
Wrestlemania Challenge was the first wrestling game I ever owned, I was 11 at the time it came out, I spent months playing it and for some reason loved it back then? It looks hideous now! Great video by the way mate and it brings back some good memories, love your channel and keep up the good work.
In Wrestlemania Challenge, there are some finishers. Rick Rude has the rude awakening finisher, hacksaw can do his tackle move, warrior has the gorilla press. For some reason, Savage does a knee drop, Hogan does an elbow drop lol.
wrestlemania challenge had finishers. Andre did a turnbuckle crunch, rick rude had the rude awaking, beefcake had his sleeper, ultimate warriror had press slam, and hacksaw had the 3 point stance shoulder charge
It's funny how you mentioned that you wanted to see who would win the CPU King of the Ring tournament. When I was a kid and played WWF Attitude, if I was bored I would set up a randomised CPU KOTR tournament and they were quite often fun.
It's been brought up a few times before, but Razor Ramon in the last game is definitely a dead ringer for Ben from Full Throttle, which is kinda impressive considering Full Throttle came out two years later.
I remember WrestleMania challenge having finishers and was my favorite of the bunch due to being able to call in someone to help you beat up your opponent.
Some of the wrestlers do have their signature moves amongst the moves they can do. Beefcake can do the sleeper hold, Rude has his Rude Awakening, Duggan can do his three-point stance into a tackle, Savage can do a flying elbow, Warrior has a press slam. Some of the wrestlers though don’t have an established finisher in their arsenal in the game. Hogan doesn’t have a leg drop, yet some other wrestlers do. Hogan does an elbow drop for his ground move instead, for some reason.
I still have my original copy of Wrestlemania Challenge and all I can remember is that it was like running around in circles at times trying to pull a move off from behind the opponent when it was against the CPU as they were always moving. It seemed almost pointless having moves from behind since you couldn't stun them. Also the CPU was vicious and in the tournament mode after the first fight or two once they got a hold of you it was pretty much game over as they were relentless.
Sir, you definitely could do finishing moves on WrestleMania Challenge. I played as Rick Rude all the time and always went around giving people the Rude Awakening. The only one that you couldn't do it to was Andre the Giant because he was too big. My favorite wrestling game was Pro Wrestling but my friends and I had a blast with Wrestlemania Challenge back in the day.
He was a good wrestler and very underrated, have a look at some of his old matches, He went by his real name Mike Rotunda in WCW and had some good matches back in the day.
Tecmo World Wrestling was the best NES wrestling game. You could build stats by working out and there were cinema scenes for the finishing moves. No WWF or WCW wrestlers but still fun.
That Razor Ramon picture from the King of the Ring game totally looks like Ben from the LucasArts point-and-click game Full Throttle to me haha. The more I look at it, the more uncanny it is despite Full Throttle coming out 2 years after KOTR.
WCW Wrestling, or Superstar Pro wrestling inJapan (which had a fully different roster ) was by FAR the best wrestling game on the NES. It not only had finishers, but a ton of moves and was easy to play once you figured it out.
My brother got "King of the Ring" on Game Boy for his birthday. I remember adjusting the stats on the "you" character to try to make the best wrestler.
Raise your hand if you used to take your boom box, record the entrance songs to each wrestler on a tape, and then play that entrance song while you were playing with your Hasbro wrestlers. All while recording all the matches in a spiral notebook.
As far as who won your King of the Ring tournament: Since your match ended in a double countout, the final match would be Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels. Shawn would apply the Sharpshooter and the match would immediately end. Hulk Hogan would come down to the ring to make sure that Bret was okay. Shawn issues a challenge to Hogan for his new King of the Ring crown, which Hogan accepts. Hogan wins and becomes King of the Ring despite being eliminated in the first round.
I agree. Wrestlemania Challenge had an amazing roster with Hogan and Warrior and the most fun gameplay mostly due to each wrestler having their own movesets and special moves, like Jim Duggans three-point stance running clothesline and Rick Rudes Rude Awakening.
😂😂 I know exactly who Razor Ramones picture reminded u of, because it’s the first person I thought of. It’s one of the actors, in the movie Tango and Cash from 1989.
The original Pro Wrestling from Nintendo was way better than any of the WWF games for NES. I bet many remember that one more fondly. I thought the WWF games looked and played terrible (especially the first one.)
I remember renting steel cage challenge and getting angry about how the game was slow.... so I took the game back to the video store the next day.. wasn’t demolition supposed to be in wwf challenge
I mean honestly, I can't understand why couldn't they have just made WWF superstars for the NES? It's an Arcade game that was ported to the game boy. And the game play on the game boy version is better than all of these.. but it's so limited as far as roster, move sets, etc.. it could have been such a great game.. it frustrates me.
I agree. It's amazing how a lot of early Game Boy games were surprisingly better than their NES counterparts and WWF Superstars is an example of that. Even WWF Superstars 2, which wasn't as good as the first one, still had better gameplay than Steel Cage Challenge on NES. King of the Ring was a lot more even between the two versions with the NES version being slightly better.
I used to enjoy playing Wrestlemania Challenge against my mates as a kid, it's definitely not a great game but it had value then. I also thought the music was pretty good in it.
I played NEStroid for the first time a few years ago and I love that game! It's not like the best game in the franchise by any means, but it's way better than people give it credit for. Same goes for Metroid II.
12:42 seriously. This has been my pet peeve with some wrestling games that don't bother simulating the finish to tournaments or battle royals when the player is eliminated. Last year's WWE Battlegrounds also did this; in the middle of a Royal Rumble once the player was eliminated the remaining wrestlers would immediately stop fighting and celebrate as if they won. It's so stupid.
The weird publisher for king of the ring probably had to do with Nintendo's licensing agreement Publishers were limited to how many games they could release in a year, so the big boys would spin of a department as a lone game publisher to get around the limit.
I stayed away from all wrestling games on the Nintendo. I didn't start dealing with wrestling games until the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis Monday Night Raw and Royal Rumble
Only Hulk, Brutus, Hacksaw, Bret, Taker, Sid, Lex Luger, and Mountie are left now! daym! I'm still trying to get over Randy Savages death... He went way too soon.
You spent most of the match running round after Ted Debiase, whereas in a real match he'd have left the ring with IRS for a count out defeat to keep the belts.
A true villain
True.
And Hogan's power-up should have been a bag of cocaine.
Razor Ramon in King of the Ring, his image looks like Texas Pete from SuperTed to me :D
Oh hello larry
He looks like Desperate Dan
The phrase "chasing Ted Dibiase around the ring" sounds hilarious in itself......
The orginal Wrestlemania game was the best! This is the first time I've remembered or ever thought of this game since I was a kid! Such a pleasant feeling during this time. Thank you so much for this!!!
Very fond memories of playing Westlemania challenge. Thanks for the video it made me smile. The 8bit theme songs are brilliant.
Hogen job to Savage:
''Doesn't work for me, brother!''
''Hey, Freakshow! You ain't goin NOWHERE!''
I remember when I had my very first pro wrestling video game on the NES,WWF WrestleMania Steel Cage Challenge.
Razor looks like the main character Ben Throttle, from the Lucasarts adventure game "Full Throttle."
In WM Challenge, Hulk looks more like Giant Panther from NES Pro Wrestling
Playing NES games on a huge flat screen is one heck of a life goal!! Great video and even better setup
Would love to see an N64 version of this for both wwe and wcw
Hogan doing the job to Randy Savage? That's unheard of lol
♥️ have you checked out the new Retromania Wrestling game, coming out soon? Looks.... Interesting...
Oh my God, that razor Ramon reminded me of a dark-haired version of Brock from The venture Brothers
Yeah, it's definitely Brock Samson who Bios was thinking of.
Wrestlemania Challenge was awesome because in tag matches you could order your CPU controlled tag partner to attack. I think the select button did it but I'm not sure how. I remember you could order them to jump in the ring and attack or go outside and attack the other partner. It was hilarious.

Great content.

Nice. I had WrestleMania Challenge. Good memories.
5:50 If I had to say who "Yourself" was I'd probably say Dino Bravo, looking at that image?
Another great video. Eastridge Technologies also did the Game Boy version of King Of The Ring and that one was also solid. It's quite literally the NES version in the palm of your hands.
Pro Wrestling was far and away the best wrestling game for NES. I have no idea why WWF didn’t just make their games like that one.
Absolutely! The best
Pro Wrestling was great, but Tecmo World Wrestling is an overall better game.
Razor Ramon on king of the ring game looks like Desperate Dan from the Dandy comics
My experience of playing WrestleMania challenge as a young kid: Get thrown out of ring or leave by accident. Get back in by accident or get counted out. Repeat.

Ok I am totally in love with your console setup my bro.
Wrestlemania Challenge was the first wrestling game I ever owned, I was 11 at the time it came out, I spent months playing it and for some reason loved it back then? It looks hideous now! Great video by the way mate and it brings back some good memories, love your channel and keep up the good work.
Been playing these on my custom arcade I built for my channel true classics, thanks for all the great videos love watching your stuff
In Wrestlemania Challenge, there are some finishers. Rick Rude has the rude awakening finisher, hacksaw can do his tackle move, warrior has the gorilla press. For some reason, Savage does a knee drop, Hogan does an elbow drop lol.
Since it never got a NES release in the Uk i have always wanted a copy of king of the ring. Too expense on eBay
As someone who grew up with these games, truly a dark time for wrestling games. We just didn't know any better.
AVGN has taught me not to expect anything good out of LJN games
They arent the Laughing Joking Numbnuts for nothing...
LJN is awesome... shut up!!
That million dollar man from the first game is a dead ringer for Michael Hayes
Doot doot doot
Talk about the nostalgia factor. The music at the very end I remember that on multiple Nintendo titles.
wrestlemania challenge had finishers. Andre did a turnbuckle crunch, rick rude had the rude awaking, beefcake had his sleeper, ultimate warriror had press slam, and hacksaw had the 3 point stance shoulder charge

WWF King of the Ring was my very first WWF Game back in the day. What a fine memory
I Love that your doing wrestling game review's! Great stuff!
Bonus points if you actually look like “yourself” haha. That’s great. The razor Ramon looks like soda popinski from punch out
It's been brought up a few times before, but Razor Ramon in the last game is definitely a dead ringer for Ben from Full Throttle, which is kinda impressive considering Full Throttle came out two years later.
YES! Love your game reviews!

Everyone did the elbow drop from the top rope except Macho Man. He did a knee drop. Always pissed me off
I still have my original copy of Wrestlemania Challenge and all I can remember is that it was like running around in circles at times trying to pull a move off from behind the opponent when it was against the CPU as they were always moving. It seemed almost pointless having moves from behind since you couldn't stun them. servly underrated channel!
love your work! keep it coming!
The only nes wwf game I played was steel cage challenge and I had pretty fond memories of playing it back in the day.
Bam Bam was so important in the late 80s that he made it to the first WWF game ever. That's neat
Back in the days when i was a kid i remember having fun playing wrestlemania steel cage challenge I liked it a lot :))
razor looks like the dude from full throttle
I just can't see the LJN logo now without thinking of Laughin' Jokin' Numbnuts.
If anyone wants a wrestling game for NES thats actually good, go for Tecmo World Wrestling. It's by far the best wrestling game on the console.
I still got these on my NES. Even the WCW game.
Didn't actually know there was ever a wrestling game featuring my man Rick Rude.
He's in WCW SuperBrawl for SNES, and he might be in the WCW game for the gameboy too.
"This is Ted Dibiase"
Me: "Which one???"
I was looking up who Irwin Schyster was since I didn't know him. He is also the father of Bray Wyatt and Bo Dallas.
He was a good wrestler and very underrated, have a look at some of his old matches, He went by his real name Mike Rotunda in WCW and had some good matches back in the day.
@@1979mattant captain Mike Rotunda for awhile. Ha
I love playing with myself! No tights or boots required lol
That 8 bit music is the best part
Tecmo World Wrestling was the best NES wrestling game. You could build stats by working out and there were cinema scenes for the finishing moves. No WWF or WCW wrestlers but still fun.
3:58-4:02 I'm trying to imagine Ted DiBiase body pressing Bam Bam Bigelow halfway across the ring😂😂😂
That Razor Ramon picture from the King of the Ring game totally looks like Ben from the LucasArts point-and-click game Full Throttle to me haha. The more I look at it, the more uncanny it is despite Full Throttle coming out 2 years after KOTR.
You recognize Razor as a Mike Tyson Punch out character
WCW Wrestling, or Superstar Pro wrestling inJapan (which had a fully different roster ) was by FAR the best wrestling game on the NES. It not only had finishers, but a ton of moves and was easy to play once you figured it out.
My brother got "King of the Ring" on Game Boy for his birthday. I remember adjusting the stats on the "you" character to try to make the best wrestler.
Wrestlemania Challange, what a game! I remember Hulk and his full on tan in that one
11:02 maybe that reminds you of Ben, the lead from LucasArts' Full Throttle
I think the cartoon you're thinking in Royal Rumble for Razor Ramon is Super MachoMan from Mike Tyson's Punch Out.
Nintendo pro wrestling in tecmo World Wrestling had better graphics and more moves and they were released roughly around the same time right?
Raise your hand if you used to take your boom box, record the entrance songs to each wrestler on a tape, and then play that entrance song while you were playing with your Hasbro wrestlers. All while recording all the matches in a spiral notebook.
love Wrestlemaina challenge! but if you toss out Aundre he can't get back in
the best wrestling game for nes is pro wrestling, by a hundred miles
I've had the music stuck in my head since I was a child.
Tecmo World Wrestling was good too.
I find it tough to dislike anything WWF. It's just so badass.
As far as who won your King of the Ring tournament:
Since your match ended in a double countout, the final match would be Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels.
Owned a few of them, played them all and if I had to pick a favourite it'd be Wrestlemania Challenge.
I agree. Wrestlemania Challenge had an amazing roster with Hogan and Warrior and the most fun gameplay mostly due to each wrestler having their own movesets and special moves, like Jim Duggans three-point stance running clothesline and Rick Rudes Rude Awakening.

Legend's of wrestle mania. Classic
That's a cracking gaming set up. Good stuff.
Would like to hope Macho Man won that tournament, return of the Macho King!
I used to enjoy playing Wrestlemania Challenge against my mates as a kid, it's definitely not a great game but it had value then. I also thought the music was pretty good in it.

The Funny Razor Ramon Picture looks like the Guy from Full Throttle
No mention of the one redeeming quality of WWF Wrestlemania.....the great music!
"scary picture of Hulk Hogan" 🤣

I got wrestlemania challenge for my birthday. 1st wrestling game I've ever had.
So did I, my first wrestling game too.
Love how KOTR Lex Luger is labeled "the narcissist". Meanwhile Mr. Perfect is just, Mr. Perfect.
Best NES wrestling titles:
Pro Wrestling
Tecmo World Wrestling
Wish they used those developers.
Razor Ramon looked like desperate dan
The weird publisher for king of the ring probably had to do with Nintendo's licensing agreement Publishers were limited to how many games they could release in a year, so the big boys would spin of a department as a lone game publisher to get around the limit.
Wonder what the wrestlers thought of themselves portrayed in games.
4-13-20
I stayed away from all wrestling games on the Nintendo. I didn't start dealing with wrestling games until the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis Monday Night Raw and Royal Rumble
Please do a bio on either Arn Anderson or Tully Blanchard. Two of the greatest workers and talkers ever and hands down the best tag-team of all time.
Only Hulk, Brutus, Hacksaw, Bret, Taker, Sid, Lex Luger, and Mountie are left now! daym! I'm still trying to get over Randy Savages death... He went way too soon.
tecmo pro wrestling was the boss on NES back in the day
