It ain't nothing. When it's landing it's almost out of fuel so you have an engine desinged to achieve orbital velocity attatched to what is basicly an empty tube with a gps and the flight control stuff you needed to keep your engines down and payload up.
I still find it hard to believe Starship is actuallt taller than the Saturn 5 and 60% of it returns to the launch tower several minutes later. And the section that goes into space is massive by comparison. It's truly amazing and encouraging. Thank you, Elon Musk.
considering that you get the most delta v from the last 10% or so when your tanks are basically empty and to catch and refurbish a booster you can't do that because you need the fuel to land the thing, it seems like a waste of time and rocket fuel to me.
These are scenes from a sci fi film. Unbelievable. The speed the booster was going before the engines fired and the short distance it travelled before being caught by the chopsticks. Can you imagine being at the meeting when this idea was first put forward. " what's going to happen is this, the booster will fall at a hell of a speed, then at the last minute we'll fire the engines and catch it on the tower it launched from". Cue laughter and shaking of heads. And there it is, happening. Amazing achievement.
I wonder how they make all this technology put yet can't help Palestinians or the others suffering in the world. In the end, this stuff is all material. It has no consciousness which humans possess. It's the only thing that gives meaning and purpose to anything. So why aren't we using these blessings of technology for meaningful things
Not only a gentle catch, but the 500 ton booster rotated to the precise angle needed to the little landing pegs to contact the chopsticks exactly where intended.
I am 70 years old, and have followed the space program since I was in elementary school, and this is the most amazing thing I have witnessed since the first manned landing on the moon in 1969 with Apollo 11!!! What do you mean first try? aren't like three of four of these heavy lifters on the bottom of the ocean? like they had to complacently redesign the thing because it kept failing to get to this point. Space X was contracted to get us to the moon this year. They already blew enough tax payer money that Nasa could have funded 6 complete Mars missions just to safely land a rocket. The Delta Clipper did this in 1993. This is the space flight equivalent of palming a quarter to pull it out of some one's ear and it took space X what? 4 years and several billion to get here?

And it actually put something into space. I mean, the first rocket Nasa sent to space still made history, even though V2 was the first thing that ever went to space in 1944.
@hoppie8693 point is this isn't revolutionary. Hell, this is how the moon lander touched down. You need the power to do this otherwise, you aren't getting to orbital velocity. Your fuel is all but gone, and the fuel is most of the space in the rocket. In order to control your flight, you need all the gimbiling and whatnot, and gps navigation is literally in every cellphone. In short, any engineer should be able to build a rocket that can land on target with modern tech. If you need your rocket to get a payload to a precise orbit, it can in all likelihood pull this trick to. The thing is, you get the most oomph out of the last bit of your fuel, and even if you manage ten flights with your "reusable rockets" the amount that landing it cuts into your fuel plus a refurbishment means it's not all that viable, when you can just eat the extra 20% or so in cost to get a new rocket and not wory about it an o-ring or something getting missed and blowing up the rocket on flight 3. If you want reusable, you aren't going to do much better than the space shuttle. Even SpaceX has given up on saving all the boosters and is ditching them now.

@johnswealu3917 Other than impressing people, what would be the point? To save the rocket, you can't use the most valuable part of your fuel reserve on your payload if you are using it to land the rocket. Just compare SpaceX's plan to the Apollo missions. Apollo was one launch and done. In trying to save the rocket, SpaceX's needs like 5 refueling launches, and they are saving what? 20% after refurbishing. From what i can tell, between trying not to burn up on reentry, needing to refurbish after launch anyway, and how much it cuts into fuel, it just doesn't make sense to do reusable. In our city there is a building that is the height of the booster, if I pass there I always imagine the thing is going up. But now it landed back, it gets you an idea how big that booster is. Great work SpaceX.
not only incredible scientific achievements but also the detailed documenting...various camera angles. The future is RIGHT NOW (I'm older than 35 but younger than 70 which for some reason seems relevant here. :))
I thought this was one of those pretty awesome animation sequences that people have been doing for the last year or two about what this was supposed to look like I can't believe for the most part it went this smoothly the first time Reminds me of when I first saw the falcon nine rocket boosters first land right next to each other just like this on the ground. The feeling is just absolutely incredible. What we as a race are capable of.
I want to say congratulations on the catch. Will you be trying the same on Starship soon. I want to wish everyone at Starbase the best and to continue with your ground breaking changes to space flight. Good luck with all of your future flights.
Once they figure out the fin thermal issues on reentry they'll be trying the tower catch. Even with melted fins they have shown the ability to target a landing zone as they landed very close to planted bous. It's in the near future.
Unbelievable, but the most amazing thing I've ever seen! The catch arms barely moved as the complete load was applied! And how amazing to rotate so the 2 catch pins were aligned to the arm's! Brilliant work! Congrats Elon & SpaceX 👍🏼🇺🇸

Great compilation. You really see the giro stabilizers in action in many of the closeups here. Incredible precision and real time calculations here; when you consider the weight of rocket plus fuel, as the fuel burns and loses weight in real time. It's fantastic to see a solvable problem solutioned so expertly here.
I was worried about fuel and oxidizer slosh in the tanks during the vertical stabilization part of the flight back to the launch tower. Guess all the baffles did their job. The reaction controls did a great job. Everything worked as it should. WOW!!!!

In our city there is a building that is the height of the booster, if I pass there I always imagine the thing is going up. But now it landed back, it gets you an idea how big that booster is. Great work SpaceX.
not only incredible scientific achievements but also the detailed documenting...various camera angles. The future is RIGHT NOW
(I'm older than 35 but younger than 70 which for some reason seems relevant here.
They parked tht rocket like it was a fucking Model 3
This was Quazi Parallel Parking AT It's Best!
I still can't believe it! WOW! Great compilation. Thanks!
I have been looking for these views and camera angles! I knew they had to exist. Incredible!!!!
That was the best thing I have ever seen, apart from my son being born; it made me cry, again
Great compilation of this incredible feat of engineering.
ELON , is not only great wizard at space tech. !!! HE IS ALSO AN AMERICAN PATRIOT HERO !!!! BRAVO !!! 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲 U.S.A. FIRST !!!
This is so awe inspiring. Thank you SpaceX.
It is so incredible to watch these things happening in real time. It's just WOW! Congratulations, SpaceX! Humanity must be proud of Elon and never, NEVER disturb such people from doin their job and achieveing their goals!
Fantastic compilation.
The slow motion around minute 4 is awesome.
6:01 this shot is incredible
Thanks, saves us all watching other channels who have this footage. First time I have seen a good slowmo of this
This has to be the most comprehensive set of videos of the catch attempt. Glory, glory, glory. Well done Scientia Plus! 👌
Absolutely love to see how many young people are involved with this. What an accomplishment they were involved with. Inspiration for generations to come.
Great views , explains a lot about the approach angle 😎
Mr. Spock would say "Fascinating" 😊
Perhaps "not fascinating. But it is...interesting."
Thunderbirds are go. Absolutely amazing.
Congrats to Musk and his whole SpaceX team!
@@slowe299 CONGRADULATIONS
TO SPACE X..AND EVERY ONE WORKING THERE...GREAT JOB...THANK YOU !!!!
5:57 I can’t even begin to imagine the amount of amazing engineers at SpaceX. They constantly blow your mind! They even made this look like it was easy 😂
Epic views of the water deluge system coming on as the rocket is landing. Great planning up ahead!
She was definitely NOT kidding when she said that thing is "coming in hot"
Just 18 months ago we watched the first Super Heavy blow up after separation. People were laughing at the whole idea.
Elon was laughed at a lot!
@@roseanneroseannadanna9651 stupid people laugh at genius' all the time.
@@roseanneroseannadanna9651 Only by idiots who have zero value added.
Only the idiots would be laughing now.....
peoples who know one or tow things about space already knew that even this seamingly failure was a huge achievment
Some of these views are just amazing! Such beautiful captures. I will never forget this day. Hope to see more videos like this for future launches. 🚀🚀
Great selection of shots. Loved the one from the booster showing the arms bouncing and sliding up and the landing pads right on target. Epic.
Wow wow wow, its just incredible, no matter how many times you watch it
Genius! I would love to have seen his expression! Thank you Elon for not only turning the page we have a new book.
This video is amazing!! Thanks!
I feel like I am living in the future when I watch this.
Amazing. Technological beauty! Such an achievement!🎉
This video never gets old. Well done SpaceX!
Has to be one of the greatest video compilation of all time.
thanks for the compilation !
🤯WoW! most people can't comprehend just how much power is being harnessed in that rocket along with the enormous scale of it all that's not to mention the sounds and vibrations being felt for miles away I honestly get chills every time I watch it launch.. congratulations !! SpaceX and all the hard work put in to making Starship... 👍
Love Elon being in complete disbelief that it worked!
Very nice video. hope this will get billions of views!
Love to see a DVD footage of this plus Space X Achievements.
ELON you are from the future,,,you showed up at the right time,,,and just like your first stage booster your timing was impeccable,,well done,,
at 1.57 you see the shockwave hiting the gound. very nice.
This is love! I will catch you after a long journey.
Thank you for the compilation. The shots from the tower itself are appreciated the most. Another amazing achievement, Space X. 👍
When I think of the effort that goes into this and the success achieved I’m moved to tears. To those directly involved my sincere respect. It’s history in the making and I feel so blessed to be able to watch it from my kitchen no less!!!
"Oh lets see if it relights" No faith in his program what so ever! Love this guy!
The Booster Cam view of the "door stops" contacting the chopstick rails was amazing. Where'd you find this? Great job! Thanx. :)
I can watch this on repeat. Congrats Rlon, GO USA
Congratulations from Brazil to all SpaceX team.
I don't care what people think of Elon Musk but he's a freaking Genius.
Gives me goosebumps every time I watch this .. can't wait for launch 6 to happen!!
Better than catch of the day, it is a CATCH OF THE CENTURY!!!
Magnífico 👏🏼 🙏🏿 👏🏼 🇺🇲🇺🇲❤️🇧🇷
Excellent work space X team..congrats 🎉🎉🎉
Great compilation. You really see the giro stabilizers in action in many of the closeups here. Incredible precision and real time calculations here; when you consider the weight of rocket plus fuel, as the fuel burns and loses weight in real time. It's fantastic to see a solvable problem solutioned so expertly here.
I was worried about fuel and oxidizer slosh in the tanks during the vertical stabilization part of the flight back to the launch tower. Guess all the baffles did their job. The reaction controls did a great job. Everything worked as it should. WOW!!!!
Absolutely astounding. Why was I not aware of this earlier? The U.S. and Space X should be so proud. Occupy Mars.
What's more astonishing besides the capture is,they got it right on the "First" try!!!!!
It really does look like science fiction, the future, and a beautiful sight too. Wow. 🌄
Incredible. Makes you proud of human ingenuity!
It's like the comic books when I was a child,no freaking way great work ELON MUSK YOU'RE A GENIUS
