      Technically it's micro-gravity. At the ISS, earhts gravity has still 88 % of it's force. So all the people in the space station, and the space station itself, are constantly falling down on earth. They are just moving so fast around the earth that they "miss" earth while falling towards it :-)

    Absolutely remarkable.... Here are some things to consider when watching this tour
    I am no science expert or geek. All of these points are simply my immediate thoughts from watching just this video, so I'm probably missing out a whole bunch of stuff
    !> Virtually every system on the craft has to have some form of redundancy, such that if the main oxygen scrubbers malfunction they have a backup. If the toilet systems block there has to be an alternative. If things need repairing there have to be spares for anything essential and tools for every job and manuals for every process and protocols to follow to ensure that one fault doesn't spiral into two then four then eight problems
    2> The requirements for supporting life; Food, Breathable air, water, Heat, Radiation protection, medicine etc etc etc have to work and be available immediately and reliably all of the time, and the systems to ensure continued good health such as exercise and good sleep hygiene have to be effective if people can be expected to not only function up there, but to be able to keep them as healthy as possible and prepared for the changes they will feel when the come back home
    3> The logistics and planning to ensure that supplies of water/air/consumables etc have to be planned with incredible accuracy and be maintained with routines, protocols and schedules that must take entire teams back home and must deal with issues like waste products, trash etc etc
    4> The massive amount of data being created all has to be managed reliably, consistently and accurately, so the sheer number of systems and subsystems and backups and sensors and probes and all of that stuff is on a scale that cannot be comprehended by one person. The support and monitoring must be incredibly detailed and require teams working round the clock
    5> The sheer vulnerability that humans on the ISS expose themselves to from dealing with their mental health, resolving even the most minor arguments and disputes, the cultural differences and most importantly the fact that should anything go seriously wrong they are on their own to sort it out for quite a while before anybody back home on earth could help. You get an appendicitis or a cut or break a bone and that team, just the few people around you are all you have to depend on until you can be recovered back to earth
    6> The resilience and sheer courage of all who have worked up there, dealing with being absent from home, acclimatising to weightlessness and sterile conditions, homesickness and solitude, keeping your spirits up, creative problem solving and then add to that that you have little or no privacy with your work and even your downtime being measured, monitored and recorded takes a certain type of person to be able to cope with that
    7> The value of the science and that fact that these guys are not just up there to look out of the window. Their missions will have important and very specific purposes, performing scientific tests and experiments that cannot be performed easily back home. We forget that this isn't just a spacecraft whizzing around, its a mobile science lab. Space travel has forced us to invent and innovate and then the experiments performed on board have resulted in hundreds of advances over the years that we have all benefitted from back home whether we realise it or not
    8> Just the absolute scale of the thing, not only as a life supporting pod structure, but also as a spacecraft and most importantly as something that had to have every screw and washer and panel and tube custom designed to perform in a structure that is ripping around the earth at speed and being subjected to external forces, heat, cold, radiation micro asteroids etc and do so 24/7 for decades.
    I am literally awe-struck by this video and the people who designed it, made it, got it up there, support it and for those who have the courage and skills to live up there. We are dealing with disputes down here between nations and cultures and faiths and this video shows how NONE OF THAT MATTERS. Amazing co-operation and fraternity

      AsSalam Alaikum, peace and blessings of God be upon you and upon all brothers and sisters, children of our father Adam (as) and our mother Eve (as).
      Dear brothers, evolution did happen, only our body is animalistic, it means, we are connected with galaxies, stars, sun, moon, earth, winds, clouds, waters, plants, animals and everything.
      And this is because, all things are creatures of God and all are connected with each other.
      However, man is different than others, because God choose him, God said, man can be better than angels and can be lower than animals.
      So there are two category of men.
      Those who are better than angels, they will live in Paradise forever. They are righteous people of God, who listens to God and follow His commands.
      Those who are worst than animals, they will live in Hell forever. Because, they did not bother to listen to God and followed their own desires and became agents of Satan.
      Please read these verses from Quran
      We have certainly created man in the best of stature;
      Then We return him to the lowest of the low,
      Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds, for they will have a reward uninterrupted.
      So what yet causes you to deny the Recompense?
      Is not God the most just of judges?
      Quran 95:4-8
      Dear brothers and sisters, please listen to God and prepare for your Hereafter. Because, this life is so tiny compared to Hereafter. A day in Hereafter is 50000 years long and here we are only for 70 years or may be little more. We are not here even 1 day compared to Hereafter.
      Please remember this world is not complete, because so many people need justice, so many people have done evil things with others. So many evil people look saints here. And so many saints look evil here. So God says, everyone will get justice on Last Day. Everyone will see real faces of everyone else.
      God says in Quran
      That Day, the people will depart separated [into categories] to be shown [the result of] their deeds.
      So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it,
      And whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it.
      Quran 99:6-8
      So dear brothers and sisters, listen to God and don't live your life like animals and follow those who say that we are mere animals, because God has not created Hell for animals, God has created Hell for people who do not believe in Hereafter and Last Day when justice will be delivered to everyone.
      When Hell dwellers will be asked, why are you in Hell, they will say, we did not listen to God.
      Please read this verse from Quran
      And they will say, "If only we had been listening or reasoning, we would not be among the companions of the Blaze."
      Quran 67:10

      +Bruce R. First of all, don't make any assumptions of how much square footage my house has. Second, I was referring to the area that delivers cargo to the space shuttle. The little connecting tunnel that one person could barely pass through. I'm also not stuck inside my house for 6 months. I can leave and go outside.

    • @Bruceman17
      @Bruceman17 9 років тому +3

      Lynn Dang Lol..smh. Well you know I'm right if you ever do look up the square footage of the station.
      You weren't being specific at all for anyone reading that original comment to know what you were referring to.
      Your last statement is completely irrelevant to the term claustrophobia* if you knew how large the station is in the first place.

    • @nhatreally
      @nhatreally 9 років тому +6

      Bruce R. Continue to start up problems on youtube bro. Because my comment was innocent for what I was thinking about, which was the little tight tunnel, and required no sassy assumptions. Starting condescending to strangers is going to get you really far in life.
      The square footage is 2000, with a 7 foot ceiling according to PBS. I'm not talking about cubic space, I'm talking about walking space. I'm not floating around on earth, So it doesn't matter to me now tall their ceilings are. I live in a house with my family of 6, plus me which makes 7. My parents' home is four thousand five hundred square feet with 8 foot ceilings. Please tell me how much bigger it is then my residence. Especially when it's semi permanently inside for 6 months.

    • @Bruceman17
      @Bruceman17 9 років тому

      www.pbs.org/spacestation/station/training.htm
      Read all of it next time.
      "Habitable, pressurized volume on the International Space Station will be 43,000 cubic feet. That is about the volume of three average American houses, each one containing about 2,000 square feet with a 7 foot ceiling for a total of around 14,000 cubic feet. The pressurized volume will be roughly equivalent to the interior of a 747 jumbo jet."

This woman was amazing in how she effortlessly explained everywhere we were going and everything we were seeing. I'm in complete awe of how it looks in there. How she gets into those tiny spaces with the cameraman following right behind is a feat in itself. I don't have enough words to express how I'm feeling right now. I feel like I was actually there experiencing zero gravity. She even had some fun giving us her Superman impersonation, and I had fun watching her descend and ascend again. My respect for the space program and all the astronauts from every participating nation is even greater now that I've seen this video. Thanks for all you do for the world and beyond.
