    I think it's only because of de lancie that Q is able to keep us engaged with the charecter. If it was anybody else Q would seem like an impotent wimp lamenting his mortality but de lancie can make Q feel vicious and cold and yet heartachingly vulnerable all at once.

    John de Lancie , I Sincerely believe, deserves an Emmy Nomination for his work on Picard Season 2. He is Brilliant as Always, but yet now even more so in a very nuanced performance. I very much Hope that he is Finally Recognized by his peers, along with Sir Patrick Stewart, who has been stunning in mining the depths of his character. I had the privilege of meeting Mr. de Lancie in Roanoke VA a few years ago. He described his upbringing, his dyslexia, and what he brought to a role. I was amazed at how much he critiqued his own work, and wanted to give his very best performance to each project. When seeing this version of "Q", he conveys such emotion; fearful, yet callous. And still, he found a way to be sarcastic, classic "Q" in his delivery of " I'm trying vaporize you" line. So I agree, this one has Emmy written all over :)

    Thoughts: Q is trying to redeem himself for something he did to Picard before he dies. He caused the Borg to know about the Human race... if you buy the theory that Star Trek: First Contact was the reason for 7 of 9's parents to study the Borg. So Q wants to make sure humanity services after he is gone. The only way to do that is to make the Borg friendly. To make them friendly, they need a human queen with enough strength to keep the Borg side in check. In comes Jurati. The queen on the Stargazer is Jurati after the time travel trip to the 21st century. She wants humanity to survive, and the Borg part wants the Borg to survive. The Borg know that humanity is very expensive to concur. So that little bit of humanity that Jurati injects into the collective makes them want to survive through alliance instead of domination. Q knows that humanity will be stronger with the alliance with the Borg. So he orchestrated this whole thing to make the one race that did more harm to humanity than any other, an ally. Just my theory.

      @ℂ'𝕖𝕤𝕥 𝕊𝕚 𝔹𝕠𝕟! because it's a useless dropping of words and concepts. It's not enough to just hint at things, drop some words like "meaning" and build up expectations. The whole writing for new Trek is based on the mystery box paradigm. The disappointment comes when you open up the box to find out that there is just a big t*rd in there. New Trek generally lacks a satisfying conclusion, so they open up a million plot threads and give you a million new mystery boxes to make you forget about what's actually in the box. New Trek goes full telenovela. The only thing they do well is optics and getting you excited for the next thing. In contrast, old (real) Trek used to be clever Sci-Fi.
      Oh, and I really think that's a shame, because I totally dig the performances. De Lancie and Q, as well as the Borg queen, are so much fun. This could be epic and glorious if the overarching story wasn't so stupid.

    Isn’t this the kind of monologue that Picard used to get on TNG? Now they’ve given it to John de Lancie.
    Also: Since Picard is stealing…or, fine, let’s call this “borrowing”…from things, who is to say that the writers for Picard aren’t going to “borrow” from Doctor Who and regenerate Q to recast the character, just like Guinan got recast? Because Q’s little monologue reminds me of pretty much every Doctor in NuWho as they get closer and closer to their regeneration. They talk as if they’re dying, and they’re scared, but whoops-they regenerate and they get to start over, with a passing memory of who they’ve been.

      @unclepobatti8996 2 роки тому

      Discovery is set in the 32nd Century. No encounters with the Q in 600 years place their last appearance somewhere in the 26th Century. Picard is set right at the start of the 25th Century; so even barring the death of John deLancie's Q, we know the Continuum continues to exist for at least 100 years - maybe even 200.
      It's possible that, for some reason, the entire Continuum is going through a process of deterioration or destruction, but the process is protracted and takes nearly 2 centuries to complete. We may be seeing the start of that here.
      Also remember: a couple of hundred years is trivial to a race who were formally immortal. And while 200 years seems like plenty enough time for a race like the Q to figure-out and reverse what is going on, they don't appear to want to. The idea of death is attractive to them. They're just bored.
      However, wouldn't it be poetic for the El Aurians like Guinan to be the ones to essentially "save" the Q? Not that the Q would appreciate it, of course.

    Question did they just make Carbon Creek canon as the first time the Vulcans were on Earth and actual first contact not just a story

    • @lorzon
      @lorzon 2 роки тому

      As far as Humanity is concerned, and probably most of Vulcan, is concerned, First Contact happened in Bozeman, Montana exactly as portrayed. The fact that there was at least one Vulcan bebopping around Coal Country over a century before means little since he was one dude just trying to survive.

      @@lorzon T'Pol did state it was recorded at the Vulcan science directorate so if true then this did happen. Just never acknowledged until now in Trek canon.

      There's official first contact, and then there's individuals messing with things they shouldn't. There's plenty of canonically confirmed instances where aliens spent some time on earth way before they were officially first encountered. Some random visit from Vulcans - either by accident or to study some random primitive species they found nearby - is not surprising. They just didn't care much about them until they proved to be warp capable.

    You know I read a book when I was young called Q Continiuum. In that book an old enemy of the Q Continiuum named 0 comes back. This 0 as many fans who read the books may remember was sealed outside the Galaxy by the barrier or the second barrier of 2. One being a smaller barrier that was set up like a gate around the center of the galaxy that held the floating head being which some have named False God from Star Trek 5 where Kirk and his crew faced it. That being along with 2 others from Kirks day as Captain and had previously faced were allies of this 0. Q had met 0 long ago and this 0 was as powerful as a Q or as powerful as the Q Continiuum almost. I cannot fully remember but I do remember Q convinced the Contiuum to let 0 use the road to traverses our Universe. In the end 0 found his way back though I cannot remember exactly how but Picard and his crew were involved. It spoke of the war between 0 and these other 3 with the Contiuum. 2 were killed and the other was so beaten up that only his head remained and that was sealed on a world close to the center of the galaxy and a barrier was put up. During the fight with this 0 it was said that 0 hurled an asteroid at Q's wife and Q snapped it away and it appeared over Earth and slammed into it killing the Dinosaurs. It is said that the Continiuum made Q responsible for watching over Earth from then on because this 0 mess was his fault and his actions caused this event. Which was to explain why Q had such key role in dealing with Humans so much. I doubt they would turn Picard Season 3 into a version of the book Q Contiuum but with this new transwarp conduit being made just as Q himself apparently died may some how be tied with the great barrier coming down or a hole being formed within it by Q's death or allowing 0 to make this hole now that Q is dead. Such a grand cosmic event playing out that the Borg got involved might be a hopefull story that Q Continuum is being made into Picard Season 3 specially since both series were filmed almost side by side and Q was such a figure in the second Season. Setting up other big players like Sonji as the Traveller and bringing in Guinan more for Season 3. To also make it an even huger event it could even bring back Captain Kirk in some way due to the tie in that he has faced the False God being from the Star Trek 5 Movie. I mean how epic would that be to grant William Shatner who has expressed extreme interest in playing Kirk 1 more time before he dies to come back and team up with Picard doing another call back to the TNG Movies. The second Season of Picard was like a love song to First Contact and this 3rd Season could be a long song to TNG Movie Generations which saw Picard and Kirk team up there. I think it would be a good way to maybe bring Q back even if it is briefly to face this 0 again as well as bringing in his wife and son. I mean I am a bit upset that they never answered where the Borg came from but maybe they can do this now with the 3rd Season of Picard seeing the Borg are now a part of the Federation. It would also open up an opertunity to perhaps tie in another book Q Squared where it is revealed Q known as Trelane from TOS who is actually a Q who was once like TNG Q who caused chaos and interference with lower life forms and so was punished and locked away on the planet Gothos and 2 Q became his guardians and ended up being more like Parents to him. Q also stopped calling himself Q and chose the name Trelane like when VOY Q named himself Quinn. They have been calling back TOS series most famous episodes like the story of Kahn and Pykes story that it would be nice if they called back The Squire Of Gothos which was one of the most popular stories of TOS. That too could be a way to bring Kirk back into the picture. Anyways it was just a thought be it a far fetched one from myself being so Biased with wanting Trelane brought back and put in movie form as well as the Q Continium and Q Sqaured books which are my favorite 2 out of the books they wrote.

    Whatever change Q has made, has caused his loss of powers, and the darkness he can see coming. Something is happening that he himself caused, and he has yet to connect it. I don't want to see the Q die, but I want them to finally find something that ignites them to be something more, to understand that they themselves are not as all knowing, and all powerful as they thought, and they will owe (if not all of humanity) then simply Picard for righting a wrong that should have never happened, and literally saving the continuum from a self made destruction.
