John de Lancie hasn't missed a beat as Q, he's still so damn good.
I might be mistaken, but I think this is the only time deLancie has been directed by Frakes; CBS, Paramount, Avid Arad, whoever needs to pay Frakes to foster and guide the directors for new trek…
John de Lancie is my favorite actor in this season. He's still got it.
It is great shame they destroyed the show with political garbage...allways loved star trek very much
@@ivanvidakovic9222 if you always loved star trek you'd know it's always been political.
@@RobynLeSueur actualy i disagree, it has allways been a bit progressive but never political, themes before were universal, there is big diference e.g. puting a diverse cast to show that people are different and diverse in furure isnone thing, but another thing is to make diverse charachter that only charachter trait is that he is deverse, also they never went for daily politics in st , you didnt see shit about agains soviet union in orginal st, or some poltics from 90is in the TNG, ds9, vy, but today we have xenophobic federation and romulans as migrants (yust to feet usa politics and similar shit romulans/mexicans etc) if they ignored poltics federation would never been destroyed in its core value...and the best part was (spoiler alert) when ICE arrested Rios, i am not kiding literaly they went in time so ICE can arrest Rios, if that is not a joke i dont know what is, they literaly write anything just to fit narrative...and they dont hide it (check Alex K. And Patric S. Speach)
Oh John De Lance, such a wonderful actor, and masterful Q.
and his stage game is just beautiful
I love Soong's "analyzing" look at the end like Data used to do when given a query when he's asked about Picard.
yes ! oh you made me reewatch that and it s perfect ^^
Good catch. It’s his considerate “processing” face. Like he’s about to look up and say: “It *is* possible sir. Starfleet records do show this instances of this happening on planet blah blah blah”
"Does the name Picard mean anything to you?"
"No, should it?"
"Sorry, that was for the audience."

Thank ENT for this idea.
OMFG! He steals every scene he's in, oh how I've missed Q... And at the 2.00 mark there's Q's haunting, eery and slightly insane musical Q (cue I know 😏) playing softly in the background again. Chills every time... Season 2 is shaping up to be amazing so far.
His performance is great, but this is not Q, they ruin it with the political BS.

A truly fresh wind compared to that brown pool of vomit diarhea called Discovery
So true
We just can't overuse him, John is such a powerful actor if they lean on him for next season he may be over done. But for this season it's certainly helped everything
I have to admit, seeing Q have to rely on his Continuum knowledge rather than powers is *unspeakably* interesting. How far could he get being able to pull literally any piece of data out of his noggin?
That does make me wonder what would happen if the Borg assimilated Q while he was mortal. I don't think they would gain access to his former powers, but just the knowledge alone would be huge. Still, the rest of the Continuum could stop that instantly, so it's a moot point.

Seeing the actor who is famous for playing Data dropping the F-Bomb is quite surreal
Seeing him as Data saying "Oh shit!" when the Enterprise was about to crash in Generations was more surreal.
@@RavenHawkes Both we’re great I thought 👍👍
And disappointing.
@@DARisse-ji1yw No need for F bombs in a show like this. Its the only annoying thing about it.
@@markgowans yup. Demeans it. Used to watch TOS with my kids.
I believe John de Lancie TRULY enjoys playing this role (because he's so damn good at it) that sometimes I think he ACTUALLY believes he's an omnipotent being! 😆
DeLancie, in an interview, said that his wife has told him that the role of Q has never been much of a stretch for him!
The funny part of that is that deLancie cannot say Omnipotent properly. There's a ton of bloopers of him with Janeway and he cannot get the word out right.
Just like RDJ or Goldblum, he is basically playing himself.
@@piotrd.4850 DeLancie once said about returning to the Picard series that his wife said that his acting as Q is not such a stretch.
0:35 to see Data saying "fucking" is hilarious.
Nice to see they're acknowledging the Soong history with genetic manipulation from Enterprise
No doubt that Adam’s research was part of the inspiration for Arik’s focus. And the committee shutting down his research I believe is due to the fact that this technically is set after Khan and the Botany Bay escapes in the aftermath of the Eugenics Wars, and that such research is ultimately dangerous.
Only it was changed to be a blatant rip-off of Shadow the Hedgehog’s backstory. Other than that though, great to see.
I hope we get a scene between Q and the queen Borg.
I'm guessing you mean Jurati...or you yet to see the episode
Q don't like to provoke the Borg remember? :P
If there was even a greater than zero chance that the Borg could figure out how to assimilate a Q, it would be catastrophic.
So Q can snap his fingers and destroy the borg ?
the Q has been assimilated.
during the explosion of the stargazer Q was weakened, jurati Borg queen will assimilate him in a latrr episode.
I think Q has become more cunning and ruthless since we last saw him
Always was. He flung the enterprise underprepared to the Borg for the fist time and they lost lives.
I hope the writers are up it the task this season as they made a right mess of season 1. Chabon leaving seems to have helped. Episodes 1 and 2 were ok to good. Episode 4 was pretty bad though.
@@makasete30 - That wasn't ruthlessness. Q helped save humanity from the Borg. He knew the Borg were coming to assimilate Earth. The Borg sent a message from near Earth in 2153 before Archer's Enterprise destroyed their adapted ship.
Q engineered the encounter so the Federation would work on ways to stop the Borg. Remember that Q is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent and so knew everything.
Q junior prob left him for his mom thats why
He seems desperate again now, for reasons we will find out.
I am not convinced Q is the vilain here....actually, I suspect that by preventing Picard grand mother into this space mision, he is trying to save humanity.
Big fan of TOS & TNG here. While I have no idea what I'm watching here, I can't wait to watch more of it.
“Teasing me with Data…” - Yup, basically what they’re doing to me in this scene. But I’ll take it!
Two great underated actors
Nothing underrated about them however the word "underrated" is grossly overused.
An interesting and cryptic remark of Q‘s, about being slaves to what we love. Those words seem to have meaning for him, and not just for Soong. I‘m curious if Q might have his son in mind, when saying this. That would be an interesting connection between those two men, but I‘m guessing the plot twists might remain unpredictable. If Q, despite all his powers, is somehow coming face-to-face with personal loss, it might explain why he was previously so irritable that he even slapped Picard. BTW, a „Will Smith slaps Picard“ meme doesn’t seem to exist yet. 🤣
Does Q's son even exist in this timeline? Since he was created as a result of certain events in Voyager, which may not have happened in this version of reality.
That’s why I thought, Q might have a problem. Of course, it doesn’t quite figure. It‘s not consistent with what we know of them, to be affected like this, but his son might be an exception, with his very existence being a result of interactions with humanity. It also wouldn’t make sense for Q to manipulate the course of history, possibly creating this problem in the first place. So, it remains exciting, as it should be.
@@jamesgravil9162 he likely exists considering the fact that they are practically immortal and cross both time and space
@@peterkruse8353 The rift seems to be the clue, a iteration of The Borg came through it as reality was being torn apart. Picard being oh so human gave in and blew the fleet up probably causing irreparable damage to that timeline's Space Time. We do know that when the Q fight it can cause stars to explode and galaxies to die. Q shows up and then is angry at Picard. he seems unwell either implying loss or sever injury. Picard blames Q without realizing his own actions caused the divergent timeline to happen
Q said he’d intervened. He also said that Picard was the very board on which this game was plaid, so there could indeed be parallels to „All Good Things“, where Picard was also to blame, but Q enigmatically noted that he had gotten him into it: „A directive from the continuum. As for lending a hand, that was my idea“. We’ll know eventually, but it could take a while until it’s revealed. I just hope it’s exciting and especially original. Too many parallels to earlier events wouldn’t be.
I don’t ever remember Q being a villain before. Antagonist yes, but never evil

@@MattSigmaX that’s not exactly what badass means. In TNG Q was all powerful, but he used that power to conjure up mariachi bands. Meanwhile a regular human can be badass, despite not having the power of the Q continuum.
Annoying in tng?? He was wonderful! :o

Matt T it hasn’t been established that Q has indeed lost his powers. Something may be affecting his abilities as a result of what he did to time, or another agency acting against him… possibly the Q continuum, or other force, perhaps these watchers? 🤔
"We are all hostages to what we love."
That one had me in tears.
When they brought in the Borg I almost gave up on the series -- ST writers have the unfortunate habit of overusing their bad guys the way the Klingons were overused in TOS.
BUT... ST: Picard is proving to be brilliant! I take all; my grumpy criticisms back; this series is a joy to watch! And thanks to John de Lancie I've found a new hot man to admire from afar. He's delicious!
You know that there were only three episodes of TOS that featured Klingons, right? And they were the villains in three of six TOS movies.
@@privatename5788 I'm probably more annoyed at the writing quality in the movies rather than TOS. The Klingons weren't given depth or fascinating character studies; they were just cardboard villains and pasted in when needed.
@@krisaaron5771 Well, I can't argue with that. TNG and DS9 really fleshed out the Klingons, after they got over using Worf as a punching bag.

@@FrostUK Thanks! made the correction
To answer your question it's a bit complicated.
Spoiler:
To Q's surprise the Q can age & do not have limitless powers. Hence why he is using as little as he can lest he use up whatever strength/power he has left. Here is my speculation perhaps he used his powers more than any other Q and is now the first to find this out.
Q is awesome.
And I have to admit, I have a fascination for the Borg Queen. She is awesome too!
Love the deal with the devil angle. We have seen Q the trickster before, this more sinister Q is extremely entertaining.
With his usual tricks somewhat on the fritz, Q has to get creative. And what’s the fun of snapping a problem away when you can manipulate someone into doing your dirty work? If anything, this makes him far more cruel than what we have seen before.
Q!!!! Oh how I've missed him!
Anyone noticed a little bit of Data poking through at the end as Soong thinks about the name Picard? Gave me the giggles as I remember how he created Data, B4 and Lore.
If CBS keeps the Bullshit up after the 2024-Shield-Drones, we'll get an Assimilated Q and the entire Series ends with the entire Dimension getting assimilated.
100%. It’s his Data “processing” face. He also does the Lore clenched jaw side look face like when he first put the emotion chip from Soong in.
I want to know WHY Q is acting like this. The Q from TNG would have never slapped Picard.
Because this show has terrible writing, I'm not sure why everyone here is going gaga over this. The show isn't good...but its what we got.
Well... Sisko did punch out Q. So maybe this is a belated return of favor by Q.
It's affected Will Smith too...
writers these days...do not seem to be as good as before, or maybe the audience they are playing to...more base than before? more craving violence and angry words?
@@HepCatJack will ancestors will travel back in time to prevent this event.
It's great that Spiner can now play Soong as an older version and it is natural beacuse of his age rather than how he was made up in TNG.
Teasing me with Data.... Love it. They really are.
I love that they made Q so much more sinister. Always thought he was too much of a jokester in TNG. He seems to have it out for humanity, but his being might have to rely on future humanity to exist. I think he is caught in a catch 22. Which is why his powers vanished. Really actually enjoyed Picard other then the stupid ICE nonsense.
If John de Lancie would ever be interested to star in Doctor Who, he'd be a great Master!
That was a straight up Data expression at the end; the kind when he's presented with a situation that is puzzling.
True but data never looked grumpy while doing it. Like this guy seems like he is just really grumpy about everything and never happy.
Don't love the show, but some some of the actors, Q is the man.
1:40 *Fluttershy got shocked*
I was waiting for it-
Jerotti is the Borg Queen!
I hope not. That would be awful writing and development…
i mean at this point, Q and John DeLancie should have his own show, no?
While it would be cool, part of what makes Q so impactful is his sparing usage by the writers.
@@fatman123526 I concur, Q is absolutely awesome (when he's written properly) but he's best used like a spice, get the amount right he improves everything around him, use too much and he overpowers everything else.
In Q's case literally, as while Q isn't actually omnipotent despite what he might claim (since the Continuum can strip him of his powers or even kill him & here his power is being limited somehow) finding a way for there to be stakes when the lead is capable of doing virtually anything they want instantly would be quite a challenge.
I'd worry they'd do what Voyager did with the Borg, bolt a load of weird weaknesses onto him to create vulnerabilities that in turn can create stakes.
That said, if you wanted a perfect casting for an Urban Fantasy take on a manipulative trickster god, De Lancie is your man.
Yes, where he picks up a plucky companion and goes adventuring across space and time.
They could call it 'Doctor Q'.
He deserves it.
I’m getting Dr. Soran vibes from Q here… perhaps time is a fire that even burns a Q?

Anyone else put off by the constant use of swearing? The original series was in part how mankind has moved on from such language. These show writers are taking liberties by putting bad language into their shows to appear hip and with it. It annoys me that Patrick Stewart would allow his character to be tarnished like this. There’s no need to be crass.
Don't forget, they've gone back to the early 2020s.
We curse and swear a lot nowadays.
