    Hybrid Jurati seems to be acting out like a retro Blondie Rapture lyric, "You go out at night, eatin' cars, You eat Cadillacs, Lincolns too, Mercuries and Subaru, And you don't stop, you keep on eatin' cars, Then, when there's no more cars, You go out at night and eat up bars where the people meet..."

      I'm guessing their budget got seriously slashed, therefore, this season, everyone's on modern-day Earth (easy location shoots) in street clothes (easier costume work) with old stock special effects or very minimalist work (eyes turning black which any kid can do with Adobe products).

    Because one has to pay for Paramount plus, I thought to see what else I can get for my money won't we suffer through the meanderings of Star Trek Picard. I am watching Star Trek the motion picture director's cut, and even though the film has a reputation of being a failure, it is actually scene-by-scene, character by character, idea by idea, a hundred times better than Star Trek Picard

    She's not fully converted, so it's still mostly Agnes in there. Here's how I think this will go down --
    Right now Agnes is fighting to retain control of herself and her body. The Queen thinks she's winning, but Agnes is proving just how much stronger her will is, and it's causing the Queen difficulty. But also, Agnes later has the opportunity to assimilate Adam Soong, only she doesn't. She has two options here, I think, upon assimilating the mercenaries under Soong's employ -- one, she could program the primitive nanoprobes she's generating to compel the mercs to obey her and not the Borg Queen, and two, because she's exerting more direct influence than the Queen is prepared to anticipate, she doesn't need to reprogram her nanoprobes because she'll be working through the Queen, using her and her new collective to ensure the Europa Mission succeeds. With less than twenty-four hours to go before launch, the window to ensure the mission goes according to plan is swiftly narrowing, but as long as Agnes remains Agnes and can get the job done, then there'll be no problems. A Queen will die, but a new one will rise and change everything.

      When the crew were still in the dark confederation future, Jurati's pet project was studying the borg queen. Her confederation counterpart must have amassed tons of data from her various "experiments," data that may not have been available anywhere else. I'm sure that someone as smart as Agnes took the opportunity to download and review all of her counterpart's notes and research results, so I bet there are a few things that she knows that the audience does not , things that will be useful in defeating the borg queen.

      that episode of Deep Space Nine is about the difference between species who exists in linear and nonlinear time. I've always thought that was absolutely fascinating and sometimes makes me think of the past and of people in my family I've lost and whether there's a way that time could be collapsed and we can't be victimized by change with seems to move so rapidly without our knowing it. In other words, that is a profound philosophical show with serious excellent actor has led by Professor Avery Brooks and a host of other great Ensemble performance. Yes watching quality theater on screen like that is bound to cleanse the brain of Star Trek Picard and it's Hollywood hipster snark.

      I love the actor who plays the FBI agent and I actually thought his reminiscence about meeting the Vulcans was pretty credible and thoughtful science fiction so I had no problem there. But they missed a tremendous opportunity to have him be one of the crew members of the USS relativity apart the same actor played, which would have brought in Captain Braxton and that fantastic memory of seven of nine but the show is not thinking in terms of that sort of synthesizing wit and Ingenuity. They hired the same actor because they liked him but they didn't exploit who he really was in Voyager history.

      Really good actress and really good character as initially conceived. Now they have her as Just a bitter brokenhearted ex-lover of seven of nine who's constantly going on about how emotionally unsatisfied she is at having been dumped. I want to see her working as a thoughtful officer and as a leader and as a Starfleet character with all the Brilliance and Ingenuity of Scotty or Captain Janeway or B'Elanna Torres or Lieutenant Uhura. I want to see her as a thoughtful active problem-solver not as someone who is so trapped in her own misery that she can't achieve anything as an officer. It's really an unsuccessful waste of the actress's great energy and Theatrical instincts.

    Those phasers LOOK like guns… remember when they used to use weapons that resembled a small box that was non-threatening? It could even be concealed in the hand so they could (if they wanted to) walk around holding it in public without an outcry of alarm. (Yes, I mean the type one phasers) That’s why I never could figure out why StarFleet never developed weapons that resembled ordinary small objects like rocks or a pen. (rocks are better as they are on every world they might go to, even in their own century) The watchers teams use those “servos” that look like pens, and they have the benefit of having a “derp” kind of stun setting that doesn’t even knock out the target, just makes them stand there all goofy like causing no alarm in passerby who might otherwise raise an alert. How is the Federation that idiotic to not develop such weaponry? Especially for any possible temporal incursions?

  • @Creasy5678

    If she'd been fully transformed they'd have both been Assimilated before they could even move. Also, Raffi didn't get her phaser up in time because Jurati is her friend-she wants her back, not dead. I do have to say, though, that I didn't see Seven's anger with Raffi manipulating people around her coming. They've been together for, what, two years? This just doesn't seem like the time-but, then, Seven was Assimilated at six years of, almost fifty years ago, we'll never know exactly what the Borg put her through and made her do. If tapping into that part of herself doesn't trigger her? Nothing will.

    • @turbopokey
      @turbopokey 2 роки тому

      Uh, just noting here, didn’t the Borg put the youngsters they assimilate into “maturation chambers” to speed up their growth cycle till they’re fully grown in a few months? In the timeline of the “Raven” episode on Voyager, I don’t see how some private researchers at the very discovery point of the Borg could have developed stealth technology that camouflages them so well (that didn’t get confiscated by StarFleet) then get assimilated, along with Annika, and she naturally grew from 6 years to the mid to late 20s woman she became without being forcibly fast-aged for a while. I’m thinking Seven probably lost at least a decade that way, probably more depending on how long it took her parents to find out about the Borg to begin with (you know StarFleet would’ve classified that $h!t at the beginning to prevent a public panic with wild speculations) then develop that stealth tech.
      Basically I’m doubting that “fifty years ago” statement.

    • @Creasy5678
      @Creasy5678 2 роки тому

      @@turbopokey Seven's parents found the Borg long before Starfleet did, they were so arrogantly brilliant that when the Cloak that hid them away from the Borg failed they never considered it might blow up so horribly in their faces, it seems. That's why Seven was an adult when Voyager first encountered her-she was likely the first Human child ever Assimilated, twenty-odd years earlier.
      Which means the Borg likely used her to figure out how to safely "age up" captured Human children...

But looking back, those shows now look pretty good, at least they both LOOKED and FELT like Star Trek, despite the low quality. Yeah, I remember too. I also remember people moaning about _TNG,_ every Trek film, the _Star Wars_ prequels, heck, there were LotR snobs who wouldn't shut up just because Jackson cut Bombadil out of a 3-hour film. And I can't help but notice the irony of people looking back at what people said about _Voyager_ and _Enterprise,_ then turning around and saying the exact same things about the current generation of Trek content.
      Mark my words, in 10-15 years another Trek show or film will roll around, people will compare it to _Discovery_ or _Picard_ and moan that they're "ruining" the franchise. Again. Sci-Fi and fantasy fans tend to be terrible at self-reflection.

    Let us assume that the Borg Queen has the ability to place her own essence into Jurati's body. Fair enough.
    [ In the Star Trek TOS episode called "Turnabout Intruder", Dr. Lester's essence was placed into Captain Kirk's body, and simultaneously Captain Kirk's essence was placed inside Dr. Lester's body. Such was accomplished via an alien device. As such, Captain Kirk's essence operated Dr. Lester's body, mouth, voice, hands, etc., and Dr. Lester's essence operated Captain Kirk's body, mouth, voice, hands, etc. ]
    Let us assume that the Borg Queen, and the Borg drones have super strength, due to the various Borg implants. Fair enough.
    Let us assume that Jurati's essence is still inside Jurati's body. Though, much weaker than the Borg Queen's essence. The Borg Queen's essence is now operating Jurati's body, and Jurati's essence is merely a passenger. Fair enough.

    ( one's essence )
    Jurati's body contains the Borg Queen's essence, not Borg technology. Therefore, Jurati cannot have super strength. Such stoopid writing.
    If the reader has difficulty with the above confusing tripe, then look at the example of Bruce Banner and the Incredible Hulk.
    Bruce Banners body has the ability to exert normal human strength. Whereas, the Hulk's body has the ability to exert super human strength.
    When the Hulk is present, Bruce Banner's essence is inside the Hulks body, and super human strength is present.
    When Bruce Banner is present, the Hulk's essence is inside Bruce's body, and normal human strength is present.
    The Hulk's essence cannot make Bruce Banner's body exert super human strength. Such would be ridiculous.
    ( the Hulk's essence inside Banner's body ) = ( the Borg Queen's essence inside Jurati's body )
    Unless Borg technology is present in Jurati's body, Jurati cannot have super human strength. Again, poor writing skills. Star Trek Picard sucks!
    Here is a digression. Consider the entire Borg Collective versus the comic version of the Incredible Hulk. The Borg will be able to inject their nanites into the Hulk's body, via Borg tubuals. Such will make the Hulk angrier and much more resistant. The Hulk's body will expel the Borg Nanites, and the Hulk will begin to smash the Borg Drones. It may take awhile, but the Hulk will eventually smash the entire Borg collective.

The worst movie next to Insurrection is Star Trek Nemesis which is again Brett Spiner trying to contribute some theme about Android life and that sort of nonsense. I thought it was very well done in the Next Generation when data wanted to make a daughter. But that one show is far better than anything else that Brent Spiner has creatively contributed to. The whole plot of his weird ancestor creating cloned girls is just completely stupid and has nothing to do with the main plot of the show. The main plot of the show also has very little to do with the main plot of the show.

      Yes I agree, and these plots sort of eat away at each other and confound and confuse and dilute one another. you can almost see the great actor who plays Q John D, straining through the bad writing in an attempt to give a meaning that isn't there. I'll bet between scenes he thought oh heavens I have to summon all my theatrical power to try to get some credibility and depth to this poorly written and poorly conceived set of scenarios. but even an actor of his majestic power can't create drama and relevance that isn't shaped by the surrounding narrative and by the actual writing and various dramatic scenarios that he's part of. but you can almost see him trying to command the lightning and rage much like King Lear does in a world of chaos from a narrative standpoint.

Also when Raffi explains what a cell phone battery is comprised of -- Seven seems to have a PTSD moment and then explains how stabilizing metals are used in the assimilation process. Which, I wouldn't use a lithium ion battery in a assimilation process because lithium is not a stabilizing metal as it can under certain conditions explode. Also lithium ions as Raffi refers to it is not a stabilizing metal -- but it actually refers to how a lithium ion battery works. But hey -- that's what poor writing and research will get you . There is an old episode of The Next Generation where some tricky con woman pretends to be a God and wants to claim a planet. She uses different kind of magic tricks and transporter effects to scare the people, and Captain Picard in a note of very British condescension describes her as obvious. Very interesting when people use the word obvious to condemn someone for being well, obvious , that is without sophistication but with all the pretense of depth , relevance and meaning. This season of Star Trek Picard is obvious.

John D. ,the actor who plays Q, says that his favorite old Star Trek episode is a Spock's brain because the script is so bad and the actors have to make it good by the sheer force of theatrical will. I think the actors here don't have a very strong sense of will to turn the rubbish that they are presented into anything of dramatic or philosophical or spiritual value. So yes terrible acting though it's caused is in the failure of the imagination of the writers and their Reliance on their own narcissistic virtue signalling.
