@@SoranoGuardias I find that ironic, given that Sir Patrick has kissed other men on TV more than once (including Conan O'Brien). Given that he's married to a smoke-show who's almost half his age, I'm pretty sure the guy-on-guy smooches were nothing but platonic. What I can't figure out is why they pushed so hard for a Seven/Raffi kiss--particularly when no groundwork was really established for their relationship--but never gave us a Picard/Laris kiss despite how well-established their relationship was. I had at least hoped to see them kiss in the last episode, but all we got was them holding hands. In other words, we got "straight-baited." Either that, or the stars' spouses (both of them are married btw) didn't like the idea of them locking lips and so they decided not to do it out of respect for their wishes.

The only way they could have done that a little better was that they never showed Q putting his hands on Picard's face, he just approached and then in the next shot they were suddenly there but then I wouldn't have wanted to sacrifice seeing DeLancie's face, it needed slight choreographic adjustment to have carried both, but other than that, this is easily one of DeLancie's best deliveries and he managed to contrast all Q's extravagant and foolish behaviour with perhaps the only display of his earnest feelings perfectly ,whilst giving us the answer that Data worked out decades before, that Picard was Q's beloved pet!

In some ways this is quintessential Q. Despite him being a royal pain in the ass to Picard for all those years, he never had any true malice towards him. He just wanted his friend to be happy and in true Q form he did it by altering the timeline nearly destroying the federation.
I’ll never get tired of Q. Delancie is the greatest.

It's been pointed out that the one time he acted close to malicious by throwing them in the path of the borg, he only did so in response to Picard's pride getting the better of him and thinking humanity was ready for "anything" the universe had...Picard more or less admitted afterward that his ego had been checked by the experience. Q has always been a Loki, a duality to his nature both good and bad, almost all of his appearances in TNG at least have been in his effort to "teach" Picard on some level even though it's often meant turning his world upside down.

    • @faelirra

@@benjaminbierley2074 Even then the act of Q throwing Picard in the path of the Borg saved more lives than lost that day. The Borg had already been in Federation space when the outposts were attacked on both Federation and Romulan sides of the border (The Neutral Zone). Q throwing the Enterprise where he did gave the Federation a year to prepare in which it wouldn't have. Also the moment Picard asked for help there was no hesitation.

"As I leave, I leave you free."
For how old and wise Picard is, Q has always come across as a father figure to him to an extent. Their interactions always ending with a new perspective for Picard to contemplate or grow from with this whole encounter solidifying that. Except Q has had to learn from Picard this time. For someone who comes from what they consider the 'Q Continuum', the apparent end would come as a shock to even the supposed omnipotent and Q has used this lesson for Picard to learn to accept his own departure as well. John De Lancie has played this character perfectly and brilliantly. Considering how we know this series is being treated as a send off for Jean Luc, there would be no surprise it would have involved Q down the road. This season may not have been an amazing season, but De Lancie made every moment he was on screen so worthwhile and genuine.

When We Die, it doesn't Mean Everything Else Dies too. The Problem I have is, they are s Focused on Picard Loosing His "Privileged" and eventually His Life, that while they can't Abolish Star Fleet or The Federation for Obvious Reasons, they seem to want Picard The Series to be about the End of Everything and Picard the Character's Decay and eventual Death is Symbolied by Everything Else Dying that he Loves. I get that They Think this is beautiful, and I do not Judge Works based Purely on if I Agree with their Philosophy, and I have Read Soviet Science Fiction that was Wonderfully Written even if I Disagree with The Marxist-Leninist Philosophy that Underpins it, there is a Writers trap where You get so caught up in The Sybolism that You Ignore the Rationale. Q is a Father Figure true, but he is more like an Angel in Classical Theology or in Literature. As such, One can View Him as an Angel , or as a Kami from Japanese Works, or similar such in Asian Cultures, or as a god in Modern Conception. Though We tend to Mix Greek and Roman Mythology into Christian Ideas when we think of them. This is Why Militant Atheists make the Argument of Why not Zeus or Thor or Odin? It doesn't Work Logically even if You Think it just a Story since Christianity does not see God as the same Kind of Thing The Greek and Roman gods were. And it is not simply My god is Bigger than your god Arrogance. They aren't Described the same way. The difference would take too much Space to Explain. I Will if Asked, but the Point is, When You Die, God Endures, Angels Endure, and Nature Endures. Your Guardian Angel does not show up and Tell You He is Dying and Slap You in the Face for it.
      Some Things are Constant.
Q is supposed to Be Constant.

You know, I can't say I've liked this series...at all, really. But this scene--this scene is phenomenal. Q, in his batshit crazy 5D chess way, literally turned the universe upside down purely to help someone he cared about understand his own value. Q helped a man that, once, helped him, when anyone in that same universe wouldn't have thought twice about letting Q suffer a gruesome (and well deserved) fate. Not Jean-Luc Picard, though, and I think that affected Q in much the same way that Picard getting shishkabobbed affected him; it gave him a clarity that he previously lacked.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I really, really liked this.
(Also, I don't think Q is actually dying, in the strict sense. I think he is, in fact, 'moving on' to a different plane of existence that will, unfortunately, sever his ties to this one. Q is still Q, in this universe or the next.)

Even Q himself seems rather confused by why he is dying. While death is not entirly unknown to the Q (considering one on Voyager was allowed to end his own existence, which resulted in a civil war among the Continuum killing other Q) natural death does seem to be a new concept to him.
I do love that after so many years of judging the entire human race, his final act was to just help the one man in all of existence that he ever considered to be a friend. And for that man to finally consider him a friend back.

DeLancie really is a strong actor. Him, Steward, Frakes, and Spiner are extremely underrated, maybe not so much Steward but most definitely the other three. I am so fortunate to have seen these actors in Star Trek over the past 30+ years! Thank you Mr. Roddenberry, Terry Matalas, Akiva G. and A. Kurtzman. Many folks who wanted a glorified TNG show are not fans of Kurtzman, and the bandwagon thing to do is to pile on these folks, but you can never truly re-create a show like TNG 30 years after the fact, and Steward would not have agreed to do it had it been that way, so I look at it as we are lucky to have them back, and I am especially looking forward to season 3. However, it will be VERY difficult to know Sir Patrick Steward is heading off to the sunset as far as Jean-Luc Picard! I got the pleasure to meet John de Lancie at a Fan Expo Convention in early April this year. I told him how my face, from 6 years old in the pilot premiere of TGN in 1987 lit up when both Q and Data appeared on scene and how my Dad hoped that, just for THAT smile alone, that both those characters stuck around for a long time. We lost Data (again) in Picard Season 1 and I knew by this small look that De Lancie gave me that we were about to lose Q as well.
Thank you for Q. Thank you for Data. For me, the two most human characters on the show. One alien species and one android. Q always got you to think on the bigger picture of what is more important. Data, well as I said I was 6 when the show first aired, so for me it was like a friend to grow up along side of with certain things. An android being the most human out of all the crew to me. Fighting for his own rights, choosing his own way to die. How he wanted to go out. Q like that sibling that always played tricks, but was also the one to always defend you. The one to try and keep you on the right path.

Out of all of the recurring guest stars, out of all of the Star Trek shows, past & present, Q has always been one of _my_ favorites. John De Lancie has given me so many fond memories. His scenes with Sir Patrick Stewart are always some of my favorites. A Star Trek universe without Q? Without this particular Q? Well, I hope this doesn't close the chapter on the Q Continuum forever. If it does, well, _All Good Things..._
Thank you, Gene Roddenberry for creating such wonderful characters. Thank you, John De Lancie for portraying one of the best characters in Star Trek and science fiction history.
These newer Trek shows get dumped on a lot by the very community that claims to love it. Not every show or movie is going to be perfect. Not every piece of entertainment will entertain the way you think it should. The Star Trek franchise has many flaws but it also has brought us many more wonderful gifts. _Picard_ may have not been perfect but to me, it is a very good show and I have enjoyed it and the characters and the stories. Maybe it's not the best but it's still worth watching in my opinion because one day there will be no more Star Trek shows and on that day, we all will have lost something truly special.
I hope that day doesn't appear in my lifetime. And I hope the same for all of you who are fans of the franchise.
You don't have to love every single second of every Star Trek show. Just try to appreciate it for what it is and if it has done anything for you, _anything_ at all, try not to forget those moments and remember, some newer generation of people out there are going to stumble upon one of these magnificent shows or movies one day and it may have a positive effect on them. Maybe it will change them in some way hopefully for the better. Maybe it'll be this show. Maybe it'll be this scene.
Remember, we have (almost assuredly) one final season of _Picard._ One more final season of the beloved TNG crew and the wonderful actors who portray them. They're all getting older and nothing lasts forever. Enjoy it while you can even if it doesn't always live up your standards.

The problem with your request is one of giants. This scene is so powerful (i completely agree one of the best star trek scenes of all time) because of all the near perfect scenes from decades ago. The writers got it right by staying true to past content. Standing on the shoulders of giants. If they dont start writing content like the old days ie at a high level, we cant have any more of these scenes as there is no true emotion in what they are writing now, so nothing to feel sad about the ending of in another 30 years. This makes me sadder than any death of Q as I know I lived through the height of Star trek and they cant seem to get back there no matter how many times they try.

Time is something that you wish you could reverse.
The things you see and the scars left on your soul.
We wish we could backtrack them all into the infinite cosmos of time.
Time echoes like a butterfly’s wings when we see things that change us as the people we once were, but will soon become, or grow into. If we reverse the time into our lives, we have to recognize the moments that we share with each other now are priceless, and if we take those moments in time and we appreciate them and love them and truly realize that when we look up at the night sky and see the stars as they are, those stars once were different stars, and we realize, in here, we become something new.
