usually a newer car doesnt have much improvements over the previous year. But carplay changes that and makes a cheaper car with carplay better than a more expensive car without it

@@vibes8354 might be better off buying the car you can afford and then getting an aftermarket stereo with CarPlay - if you buy the stereo from Best Buy they do the install for free. You just have to buy any parts needed for the install

I used CarPlay in a rental car, and as soon as I got back into my regular car, I had to get a new head unit 😂.
Toward the end CarPlay is described as hands-free. It is if you use Siri, but in this video there was a lot of screen tapping while driving. Hardly hands free.
My car lease is up this July and I’ve been looking at what I want in my next car. This is 100% needed. I use my maps and music every time I drive and being able to text with Siri is such a need for me.
It’s cool how CarPlay went from a niche iPhone feature to something people look for in their next car. It really is a must have these days!
Maybe sure you look into if it has wireless car play or not. That seems to be a very new standard. Unless you don’t care then never mind.

I thought I was gonna use CarPlay but Bluetooth in my car is so good with viewing music I don’t want to wire my phone. Only thing that sucks is I don’t think it can read an iMessage.
Mine reads an imessage. I’m able to receive and send texts back via siri
Mine reads the texts aloud as long as they’re not too long.

I do have Apple Car Play in my 2020 Ford Escape. I do played my music a lot. I used the cord for it which is so easy to charge up my iPhone the same time. I missed this one wallpaper from Apple Car Play.
Can you use the radio from the car while using CarPlay for navigation? Or are you limited to playing music from iPhone if using it’s navigation?
Yes you can! The radio will pass through and the nav audio will okay over top.
Cool video but why is the person in the depiction tapping the screen to navigate the ui instead of using siri?
I wanted to demonstrate the speed of the interface which was best done with touch control, but as I mentioned in the video most people will be using Siri to control CarPlay
As someone with bad eyes, using navigation on carplay vs looking at my phonescreen is significantly better
Still doesn’t make sense that in the Uk you ain’t allowed to drive with the phone in your hand which is fair enough but they still allow you to fiddle about with that screen while driving . Doesn’t make sense

Informative video, thank you for posting. A manual transmission, good man! I use a bluetooth adaptor to connect my iPhone to my 2007 Saturn original radio.
Useful and informative content. Plus a great opening shop of the ODSS parking lot....that brings back some memories.
Infotainment systems already allow you to start calls and listen to music. You can also listen to podcasts through bluetooth, this just seems like a more expensive way to become a distracted driver, focusing on a screen instead of the road.
I see where you are coming from, but personally I find the controls on CarPlay to be easier. Without CarPlay I often have to fiddle with my phone if I want to change the music or podcast or whatever which is more distracting. CarPlay is also vastly better for when you receive messages as well

Surprised it needs the iPhone to be plugged in and doesn’t use BT instead. Does it at least charge it while it’s plugged in?
Edit: it does charge while plugged in and evidently BT bandwidth is not robust enough to support the connection.

I use apple car play wirelessly. I love it. I push the talk button on my steering wheel and have Siri do things for me like calls and directions.

Nope, you can use any music streaming service you like! Afaik all of the major ones support CarPlay

I am new to CarPlay and just saw your video. Can you tell me how to arrange the 3 small icons to the left of the Home Screen with all the apps. I have selected different apps but can't figure out how to set the 3 I would like to use most. The bottom icon seems to be the only one that will change. I have arranged the larger icons with my phone's customize feature under settings, but can't customize the top 2 smaller icons on the left side. Any help would be appreciated.

CarPlay can only be used when your phone is connected so no unless you leave your phone plugged in the car.

I like car play on my new car. One good thing is that my car does not get satellite so I am able to use siriusxm from my iphone12. Since I have unlimited data it works just fine. Question: Is it better to plug yopur phone into a USB port in the car rather than bluetooth, or does it matter? I have used car play with just bluetooth.
Honestly I don't think it matters. However by plugging in your phone also stays charged which is a benefit. (Unless your car has Bluetooth CarPlay and wireless charging)

Some cars do offer wireless CarPlay. It’s a rare feature but it’s becoming more common. :)
According to my salesman, Bluetooth connect to phone for voice calls is always wireless, while connected to AppleCarPlay/Android Auto is a different thing! Some car models (options) offer wired connection, while some others use wireless connection! Check before you buy that car if this function you care much about!

I thought you were going to list the make and model number of the CarPlay unit? Also, could you activate the call features from the steering wheel? What year is the VW?
There is a link in the description for the CarPlay unit. There are no steering wheel controls because it is a 2010 Golf. A lot of new cars will have CarPlay and steering wheel controls built in though.
Can you use Amazon Music with this?
If you have it downloaded to your iPhone then I seriously doubt you couldn’t
What if two people use the card, one person one day and the other the next day? Because it was going to be connected to one phone, is there any problem?
I remember when we rented a car with CarPlay and it was a pain, We had to disable Bluetooth in one cellphone.
I'm not sure about wireless CarPlay but I have had no issues using multiple phones when plugging in for CarPlay

Unless your car has wifi built in then yes you use mobile data for using CarPlay features

UA-cam Music is supported but you have to use a cable connection to use CarPlay

How did you connect USB without using the port on the front of the unit?
This unit, the RCD330, doesn’t have a rear USB port, so I actually had to disassemble the unit and solder a female USB lead to the board where the front one connects. That allows me to route a cable from the back so I don’t have to have one coming from the front. Very complicated but it works and looks clean.

How is this different from just mounting your phone to a dash or windshield mount?
Apple CarPlay pretty much does everything your phone does on a car mount but with better hands free control and a bigger screen. It also has cool features like automatically showing your route to work when you plug in.

The ‘now playing’ on mine just says ‘Live Streaming’ and only shows a white screen. How do I fix this? It used to show like my youtube thumbnail and title of the song I use
That's weird I have never had that. Have you tried restarting all your apps that use audio?
@@WincTech yes. And it’s been stuck with ‘Live Streaming’ for few days now. I tried restarting my phone (idk how to restart CarPlay, lol I just turn off my engine), even tried updating both my phone and my CarPlay. But it’s still just showing ‘Live Streaming’ when I go to Now Playing app on CarPlay. Before it froze, I used to see the Live Streaming screen only during ads when I play UA-cam while driving. But just one day it got stuck on Live Streaming….although my UA-cam still plays in the background. Only issue is….it’s no longer showing in my Now Playing app on Carplay. Sorry hard to explain 🥺
Wish CarPlay would let us watch Netflix or UA-cam while parked

Finally have Apple CarPlay installed into my BMWs. Doesn't come standard, and have been suffering with using mounts especially for Waze (music and audiobooks worked). As much as I love the BMW, their dashboard system just really is clunky and their maps/navigation system is useless.

It was meant to be more of a demonstration of the UI with touch not necessarily a demonstration of how CarPlay would actually be used.
So if I’m riding with a girlfriend, they have easy access to open up my messages. Nice..

I have never used apple car play on my Kia eNiro, far above my skills.
Crapple car play doesnt work in a multitude of cars, last 3 cars bought in last 6 months because car play kept messing up. ur better off with android

Oh yes I've set the option to allow carplay while locked, still won't allow carplay unless I unlock it, I've set it over and over and over... It's in my opinion next to worthless
