What’s it like hands on shoooting. Is the menus system quick to navigate if I need to change stuff on the fly. Is the touch screen a pain and adjusting focus with ya cheek or nose happen? Lol
Andy Critchlow when you put your eye in front of the eye price to check the evf the screen blacks out so you don’t have to worry about moving anything accidentally I have the 6dmk1 5dmk3 then I got the eos r and that’s my go to for weddings and events
Nizar Noor Their cameras have a lower dynamic colour range, but I’ve always preferred it too... You can fix contrast and colours in Post anyway. Sharp images are top priority
Canon cameras may not be the latest or best tech, but I prefer them for; color balance, good ergonomics for my hands, intuitive button layout and menu system, very good selection of lenses on the market.
I use the 5d4. No complains, is fantastic, is a beast. Older technology doesn't means is a bad decision. Saying the new technology is always better is a mistake. You never talk about reliability. That's important to me.
I don't care what people have to say about the Canon 6D Mark 2. I love it with my 24-70 lens. With post editing, it gets the job done. I live your videos!
I always loved these quotes: "Good camera doesn't make you pro. Everybody has good legs, but not everyone can be footballer. So choose whatever you FEEL it's FUN." To be honest, none of those three are much better than the competitor. But my experiences with the 6DII and the new EOS R just entertains me. A feature I think many overlooked for example as simple as "closing the curtain to protect the sensor while changing the lens", it DOES make me feel that Canon put a thoughts to this camera to be rigid and reliable. As a crew, my boss encourages me to use Sony and Fuji. But me and many of my colleagues opted Canon instead. We felt it weird that we didn't opted for the "better specs overall" but it's true...
Jared has mentioned that there is no professional camera. Any camera in his hands (or in any professional's hand) becomes a pro camera, getting pro results.
EOS R feels really good in the hand. I hope they will make two slot version, it might be a touch bigger I don`t care as long as the body+lens combo is smaller than previous. I am really happy for buying outgoing 5D III ;)
@@kikipratama1 Very likely. Old school Japanese salaryman mentality is still there high up in the management... :( In stead they just could come out with two bodies close in timing. I think most people invested in Canon will just wait to see what is happening. Too bad for C. as some of them will leave.
@@valdius85 Let them be. Perhaps Canon has its own strategy by letting "everyone leave and then later make everyone back in." It's a big win if it happens. If you know what I mean...
I sold my 6d and today I had a choice what camera to buy. I ordered mark IV for $ 2210 ($2056 was the price for EOS R). And anyway I am happy with my choice. Nobody says about reliability. Canon 5D is great time-tested camera. This is the best mirror camera by Canon. I will take mirrorless Canon camera in 5-8 years when it will be good enough and well tested.
You won't even have to wait 5-8 years till mirrorless gets better. The EOS R is already better, at my work we have both the 5D4 and EOS R... And I'll use the EOS R any day, anywhere, anytime & any everything. Better and deeper grip, better display... I won't even mention the rest, if you watched the whole video, Jared said what I have to say.
@@Ingemann. You can't buy a bad camera anymore. If it was made in the last 10 years, it's still not a bad camera. I'm so bored with these reviews that I started shooting film. Lol.
5-8 years till mirrorless is good enough??? Thats how I know you only speak from what you hear without actually knowing for yourself. Mirrorless is already offering so many things that you cant get with dslrs. I remember people saying this exact same thing last year but its 2019 man lol mirrorless is at the top now especially with what SONY is doing. The only reason I would chose a dslr is if I shoot sports or wildlife. But not everyone has the chance to get in a stadium or travel to Africa so yeah for the most part Mirrorless is the best option for beautiful photography as of today. Btw I’m not a sony fan boy cause I’ve had sony fuji and now canon eos r
@@Ingemann. There are people who just hate change. Anything new is always inferior in any way. Apparently it took Canon long time of design for EOS R as they wanted for it to be reliable. The lenses are great, even Jared who is a Nikon boy likes them. The very first modes is already cheaper than 5D IV. I realise that 5D IV is old but still. My update for 5D III will for sure be RF body. I would love to be able to afford the RF lenses - hopefully the price will drop to more realistic levels or Sigma will offer native RF mount ;)
I purchased a new Canon 6D I a couple months ago saving money to buy a 24-70mm,70-200mm, and 16-35mm. After comparing it to the 6D II, I think the 6D is a better deal. My next camera is going to be the EOS R.
Had to make this decision this month and went with the 6Dii mainly due to price. Got a great bundle with a Canon grip, 2 batteries, and some smaller goodies for the $1299 price. I dont shoot any video, so that helped make the choice, but so far I am thrilled with the 6dii.
@@UnboundedMedia I don't see much appeal on Canon bodies right now compared to my 6D for the kind of photos I take. I would like to switch to sony, but the second hand market isn't as big and it's pricier over all. So for now I'll stick to Canon, get some lenses here and there and upgrade body, eventually as you said, but not soon.
I just upgraded to a 6D mark 2 from a Canon T6. I recognize some of its “weak points,” but for automotive photography it is a YUGE upgrade from my T6. It also has recording features for if I want to delve into messing around with video eventually.
One note, If you do not already have one, you can purchase a NEW 5D MK IV with CLOG, $100 more. The point is if you buy it new, you don't have to send it back to get it.
Mine is my daily workhorse. I also shoot with an a7III which runs technological rings around both the 5DIV AND EOS R but if I could only bring once camera with me for a vacation, it would be the 5D every time.
@@harispap Sure. The reliability and the weather proofing of the Canon. Canon does get criticized (and rightfully so sometimes) for never adding any actual features to their firmware, but on the other hand their firmware is almost always rock solid.
Yes but 5d mark iii is way more better than this........what I'm saying is the mark iii will complete your expectations.....but mark iv could not give expected quality ..many times
Same here - love the feel of the body when you hold it, everything's in the right place for bigger hands Had a go with a mate's EOS R and struggled with positions of controls - the back wheel was wierd, no joystick was a pain - I'm sure you'd get used to these features eventually, but from a pure useability point of view, my 2 5D mark 4's are perfect And I've got lots of CF cards - so that CF slot is really useful!
2:10 The EOS R gets the check mark based on the newer processor. interestingly DXO gave the R a lower overall score than the older 5D mark iv. Check mark to the 5D mark iv.
I went with the EOS R and I love it. Can use all my EF L glass I had already been using on my 80D with Canon's adapter. Feels like I'm getting a 5D IV for less money plus a flip out screen - which I've used a lot on my 80D already
I'm shipping Canon for mostly 2 reasons, the wide variery of second hands lenses and the first one is that Canon just rule the game when it comes to easy to use and feelings in my hands.
I have a Question for you Jared; Why do we still look at higher ISO as a legitimate improvement, if the majority if not all the cameras images still shown noise etc from setting your ISO anything above 12800? Wouldn't it be more prudent to have a camera that can actually be set to a higher ISO and not get a crap image? Okay, that was technically two questions. Maybe there should be a standard..... to the standard, in other words measure the highest an ISO setting can go before it starts to fall apart, and call that standard "OIS" (Optimal ISO Setting) or pronounced "Oh-is" an acronym within an acronym... come on... that's awesome sauce right!
I bought 6DII last month after 14 years of Nikon. Having owned legends like D700 D750 D4 and D500 among others I can say the 6DII is excellent camera for the money. I wanted the R but no real selection of native lenses plus they seem to be really expensive. I Really wanted to like Sony because the AF is truly mindblowing but the ergonomics sucks and skin tones are horrible. And yes i edit my files extensively. If they put Eos R guts into 5d4 body ... improved the face and eye AF and fps and added flip screen ( not articulating one) it could well be the last camera I ever need to buy.
We bought the 6d mark ii two years ago and love it. My wife wants us to get a good back up camera.... which is turning out to be ANOTHER camera.... ha ha. We're looking at the Canon R for Christmas. The glass is getting better these days too. Cheers!!!
How about image quality, and low light ISO performance? Who wins there? I dont care how mane features a camera has, I want great images and great low light performance. I have the original 6D which is not full of features, but the image quality and ISO performance is excellent, and thats all the matters in the end isn't it?
I wound up buying the EOS R last week as I came to the same conclusion as you. I was considering the 6dmii for a few days because of the holiday price but decided I'd spend the money on the EOS R. Plus, I got 10% off of the body and 25% off of accessories from Best Buy because it was my birthday earlier this month. Stoked with my choice so far!
I recently got an R and I am just excited. The RF 24-105mm L is just fantastic and also the RF 35mm f/1.8 does a pretty good job. I would not trade the R for any other product, even if the specs look better.
Good points Fro, but if i can make just one cooment (NO YOU CAN'T! Ok but i'll make it anyway.), the Eos R really is, technically and technologically speaking, superior in almost everything against the 5D Mark IV. BUT! In my humble opinion, the R and M4, have to be analised in the specific usage that both of them were made to be used. The M4 has born to be almost an "war tank" in durability to be used, mainly, in photojournalism, with focus (HÁ! ... ahn... focus... photographers/photojournalists... okay, not as good as i had imagined...) in war zones and zones with extreme climatic changes and conditions, that's why it's made with a body of magnesium alloy in order to resist most of weathers conditions. Just as the R was made to be used in almost all daily situations other than war zones and harsh weathers conditions even if have a magnesium alloy body (Which is not made as the same in the M 4, but pretty good nonetheless), besides to, too, be used in photojournalism line of work, like sports, wild life, sreet, police, politics and journalistic investigations in general, in which requires a silent shutter and huge amounts of ISO without losing too much of image quality, together with the fact of the adaptator which allow us to use our old glasses with it. Well to make the opera shorter: in my, probably, limited vision, even if both of them really are really good, the efficiency of them has a great relationship with for what they'll be used for.
Andy Green, Canon 5D is a great time-tested camera. It was tested by millions of professionals. Reliable - this is main argument. But I also believe that EOS R is also great choice! New technologies, compact body and modern design! I hope you will enjoy shooting this camera, man!
@Anon Fox mine cost $800 with the Black Friday deals. It was pretty hard to justify not getting it at this price, and I feel like the reviews weren't helpful as they all compare it to $2k+ bodies, when I was thinking about an M50 when I saw the deal .
Hi! You know if I connect my 6DII to an external monitor, I can see my image in both screens? The external and the 6D II for tracking or I still use the touch focus at the same time?
Me too! I like the features such as the rotary monitor and the Canon remote app. No one, really no one of Nikon, Sony, Fuji offer that! That's why I bought my 6D Mk II. And as mentioned already several times - The photographer makes the picture!
OK, finished watching this video, still really happy with my 6Dmk2 because I'm still new to the game, needing that full frame on a budget, upgrading from a 70D. Already had a couple lenses so I didn't need much to upgrade.
I do have a question, my afro friend. I just purchased a CANON EOS R, I like the option that when you turn off the camera a curtain is closed to protect the sensor, but if you change lenses, the sensor is exposed. Is there any way that the curtain closes every time I change lenses? For your wisdom I will be eternally grateful.
I’m watching this because I really can’t decide on getting de Canon EOS R or the Canon Mark IV. I’m a Full time Newborn and Baby Photographer. Wanting an upgrade from my 6D. What do you think would be the best choice?
I have the EOS R and love it! Paired it with my RF 28-70 and man oh man. I wish you can put the RF 28-70 on EF bodies for others to experience this amazing lens! The main reason I went with the EOS R over the mark IV because of the promising future of the RF line of Canon lenses.
I purchased the 6DII knowing it's shortcomings and I do not regret it as I have seen an improvement over the original 6D. That being said I am excited to see how my work will change (fashion photography) once my EOS R arrives next week.
@@Fitnesseuphonium once I get used to the controls I'm pretty sure I'll love it. AF is super fast and seems to be more accurate than the 6D and 6DII. Image quality is phenomenal. Haven't been able to really put it to the test but I will be today shooting a local high school football game.
Tony showed us that the iso is better on the mark 4 so this whole processor gets the check for high iso is off. Unless you want to actually show us like he did.
I have a 5d mk II, i know it's such an old camera but it served me well and my God, all 5d-s are work horses. My MK II has only one CF slot but guys, it has NEVER failed, NEVER! Not one error, nothing. Looking obvously for an upgrade and everyone points out to the eos R. But i really don't know how all the wonders features like the flip out LCD screen will perform in 4-5 years. Nobody spends this amonunt of money to get a new camera next year. Why nobody mentios this? for these reason i will get a mk IV because i know for sure it will not let me down. And thanks God IT has that CF slot. I trust a CF 10000 times better then an SD.
C'mon Roger, you know the 6D ii is a great camera !! It was a ton less money I suspect than what I just spent on the EOS R and RF 50mm especially factoring I sold a 5D mk iii with less than 10,000 on the shutter (only two years old).
I sold my Canon 6D Mark II and went with the Canon EOS R I wanted a lighter camera and I have a bunch of glass for canon if not I would have went Fuji XT-3 or Sony A7III.
Your video is single -dimensioned, focusing only on specs. All good on paper. What about durability? Battery life? Weather resistance? Actual picture comparisons?
welp, I got the 6D mark II because of price, also I already have some EF lenses and don't feel confident enough to get the other two, which are pricier and the EOS R seems like Canon is still figuring out their mirrorless game(better wait for the next iterations)
That 6D is good enough for most situation. It's on par with the 5Div for photoworks. The video features may lacking, but I seldom used it. In weddings, I can't do photos and videos at the same time either. Strangely, I even want Canon to just scrap out the video features on this camera so it can be as cheap as a Rebel.
Agree on price. I feel like this video is doing the wrong comparison. How about 6Dii vs 80D vs M50. I bought my 6Dii for about $800 new so it seems like these are more comparable in price. Obviously if your budget is $2500 it isn't going to compare as well. To be fair, $800 is an unusually good deal for a 6Dii body. I don't care about video at all. My second choice was the M50 at the time.
@@RichFreeman I think the video is justified since these three are the top-of-the-line current Canon cameras, with the 6D Mark II being the entry level fullframe from their brand
Interesting comparison. I bought the 5DIV a year or so ago and I’m really happy with it. In saying that, were I buying one today then the EOS R would be the one I’d get. I am a hobbyist so I card isn’t much of an issue, especially since I upgraded from the 5D mk2.
and a curtain that covers your sensor, a control rings on RF lenes... and this lenses?! Brilliant! I switch out my Sony 7III for EOS R because the Canon feels better to use and hold... and my EF lens pop on quickly and I have a drop in filter on my EF adaptor... masterful design!
The EOS R launch with near flawless adapting of the EF lenses was epic. It made Sony's rise seem like a calamity. I think Sony is a good camera choice too, but the EOS R for general shooting is a dream. My first RF lens is the RF 50mm 1.2 ... With a 5DS also, I already have 1/3 set aside for another EOS R model later. But for anybody starting from scratch, either brand seems a safe investment.
Unless you feel lucky (in the sense that hopefully the card doesn't fail), then go for EOS R to benefit from mirrorless tech and better AF performance!
@@casamayer You may want to find yourself a good lawyer and an insurance to cover for your client losses when it fails. (Tell US trully that YOU are willing to Risk it). Cuz US professionals DO NOT. (That's the insurance that 2 cards provide).

Obviously he is in love with the EOS R. If you are the kind of person who likes a Point-n-Shoot but wants interchangeable lenses, then the R will be perfect for you. If you are a more serious photographer or hobbyist, then you may want to stick with a mirror. IMO, they will always give you higher quality images and better Autofocus. As for wether to buy a 6d MkII or 5D MkIV, lets discuss. The 5d is higher resolution, but the difference between 26.2Mp and 30.1Mp will barely be noticeable. The 5d shoots more frames-per-second, but 7.0 over 6.5 will probably not make a difference. The 6d has a DIGIC 7 processor vs the 5d’s DIGIC 6+. The 6d has an articulated LCD screen, the 5d does not, but it does have a higher resolution screen, 1.6Mp vs 1.04Mp. The 5d has dual card slots including a CompactFlash. If you are a serious user, you would rather have a CF slot but having an SDXC slot in addiction to a CF, like on the 5d, is a great option. Summary: They are both great cameras for photography . If you are someone who loves shooting video, the 5d has 4k at 30 frame capability while the 6d is only 1080p. The future is def going 4k and in a hurry. But if you are a shooting video of you talking to the camera, like a blogger or youtuber, you may appreciate the articulated screen of the 6d. If you are a serious photographer and you like a quick and accurate autofocus, the 5d is the clear winner. Another option: Save sone cash for lenses by buying a lightly used 6d MkI or 5d MkIII. They are basically the same camera, but the 5d has the edge over the 6d with 7fps, better AF and a CF slot. Now if you choose this option you will loose some features. You will lose the 4k video option and a articulated touchscreen with both of these, but think of the extra glass you could buy with the difference. After all, without good lenses, it really doesn’t matter what camera you are using. Hope this helps those who still prefer a mirror camera.
I'll probably get flamed for this, but just a few questions after watching… 1. Are we to assume that, the camera that amasses the most check marks, is the best camera to buy?… 2. Since a camera is just a tool, can your checkmark amassing strategy also be utilised when deciding on what other tools to buy, like say; pencils?… 3. What benefit, if any does the checkmark amassing system have on the buyers artistic and creative output?… 4. Does the checkmark amassing strategy actually have any real merit? 5. If amassing the checkmarks don't actually relate to which camera to buy, what real purpose do they serve? I am a huge fan of your channel, and there's always some great stuff to be found up here, but I really struggle to understand the purpose of this type of video, particularly coming from someone who is clearly very professional.
Quite boring spec comparison video with little to no real life background. I have 5D4 and EOS R, used both in varios jobs and... Jared, you're bit wrong about many small things here.
sold my R, RP and M50 last year. Bought 6dII in 2023, and a mint 5dII in 2024. And an R50 for my business to shoot quick videos with Eye Tracking. But for stills the old cameras are so much more fun for me.
Anyone talking shit about the EOS R stop talking shit and get the a7iii period. Its a beast camera. I had the a7rii and sold it got a EOS R because once I went mirrorless I couldn’t go back to dslr... so I went back to canon for the eos r and its an amazing camera for fashion photography and portraits. I do video and I use the bmpcc4k with a ronin s. Best decision ever! Best looking photo camera and best looking video camera 🔥 and the best part is I can use my L lenses between the two and even the batteries too 😁
Before I had the EOS R a week, I put 25% aside for whatever the next version is. Canon Rumors posted today about a possible announcement of a TWO CARD model EOS R. If true, I'll buy it too, and keep my first one. Stellar piece of gear.
Mario Vaden the camera serves as a tool. With that being said there are many different types of cameras and brands for each person own needs. The EOS R is an AMAZING camera for the quality it delivers and for my type of work! Dont let nobody talk you out of it bro. The people complaining are probably the ones who oversaturate and put too much contrast on their photos lol
Question for Jared or anyone else: If tracking a fast moving object ( birds, sports, etc.) do you feel there is a lag time in mirrorless cameras ( speciifcally the EOS R) with what you see in the view finder and where the action /focus point actually is?
I have a Canon 90D, which I love, but want to upgrade to a full frame for landscape/astrophotography. Not wanting to go mirrorless because of price and my lack of experience. Plus the EOS R has been discontinued. So for 2024, stick with the affordable 6D Mark II or should I future proof with the R6?
I would have thought that the answer to this question is quite obvious. But no. I have the 6d ii ( coming from the 70d, it was the most practical Canon camera rather than the 80d which is too similar...) because I have not got the money nor the experience yet to own and get the most out of the 5d iv. The EOS R is new and paired with the right L lens ( and happens to be recommended for L type lens...) , which it was really designed for and a semi pro is also above the 6d ii. So for the majority of us who are not in your league ( I mean that sincerely ) should in their right mind opt for the 6d ii. But again, that new EOS is tempting! Way to go...Fro Knows!!!
OVF teaching photography. I choose 5dm4 next 6dm2 for price nad not R at all. Soon every body także same photos from mirrorless cameras.😂 5dm4 for general, 6dm2 for all when U need articulated screen and 7dm2 for sport and fast. That's all you need. Do you really need eos R? 😊
I totally agree with you. I had all those models (plus a 5ds) and currently, I'm having a blast with the R. I just wish it had a double sd slot and Ibis. Besides that, the sheet spec doesn't make justice at all.
As an 80D user, glass glass glass! Save for the red rings, weatherproof and incredible glass/tech, trust me you won't regret it. My first L was the 70-200 2.8 ii and wow I am glad I bought it!! Shot many venues/events with it. Increased my photography confidence too! I will say though, with these choices I would pick the R only for the upcoming FAST glass options. Regardless of your shooting style, fast glass usually equals money shots. I'm young with an old school soul, I still shoot my F1N with my chrome nose setups when I want full frame, so don't knock older(fossil) FF cams. ✌🏽
Fred agree, people talk cameras but it is only half the package, you need good lenses to to get sharp images and small depths of field. The cheapest camera here with better glass is going to give better images. Although, in the future the R lenses are the winners, as they can be made better due to the lens being closer to the sensor. But you need lots of money to get all that!
Agree. I was originally going to get an M50 for just this reason. You can get that and an L lens for a much more reasonable price. I ended up with a 6Dii just because it was on sale under $1k and I couldn't resist trying full frame at that price.
@@Seniorsix I've shot a 5d3 and yes it's great, but not worth selling my 80D for. Also, I'm aware of the crop factor and I'm fine with it. When I eventually get a full frame, EOS R or better, I will still keep my 80D. It really is an amazing cam! There's a reason pros have a crop handy, it may be for a specific use, but it beats losing speed via an extender.
@@waynosfotos I agree! I've seen photographers on Flickr and other sites use older crops with incredible glass, shoot magazine style shots. Example google original 7d (or 30D, 50D, 7Dii) with the 400 L bird photography, watch what pops up.
I understand your comparison but the 6d mark 2 is half the price, it is never going to win a check mark as it is a much lower specced camera, in the real world this is a big amount. If the cameras were similar price yeah, but they are not. Remember people still need to buy lenses. And a 1000 bucks in your back pocket goes along way. I bought the 6 d mark 2 for one reason, it does everything good, not fantastic, but good. Most other cameras do some things fantastic but others bad, and i wanted a all around camera, plus the flip out screen is a must have for me. Yes the R is great, but to big a jump in price. The biggest thing i miss in the 6 d mark 2 is 120fps @ 1080p which would make this camera perfect for me. But the two others don’t really do this either ( with no AF) so fiddly and a pain. Also the 6d mark 2 can have audio bars up on the screen for sound monitoring, okay not headphones, but you can tell the gain and levels and that you are recording sound, so not so bad. I still can’t see double the price for the R. Why pay more for a R, to really get what? What do others reckon on bang for buck?
Have to say Jared.....I've been following you for maybe a year or close to it and I enjoy your videos. They are upbeat, filled with information and you guys do a great job with the video, editing, audio etc. Keep up the great work. About the EOS R. This video along with a few others helped push me to upgrade to the EOS R. 2 years ago I almost bit on the 5D M4 but decided to wait. Glad I did. Since I'm heavily invested in Canon lenses etc., I was pleased the EOS R accepted the EF lenses without quality loss. I upgraded from two 5D M2's I've been using for years. The technology upgrades are huge. Everything about the EOS R will enable me to work faster (auto focus system, button configurability). I'll be shooting my first wedding with the EOS R in a couple of weeks and look forward to my results. I had a 2nd shooter with me last year who had the 6D and I was impressed with that cameras low light performance vs my 5D Mark II. His reception shots were better then mine! Great colors and sharpness. When I saw the much lower price for the 6D.....I almost went for that camera as well. Luckily I waited and sure enough Canon finally drops a Mirrorless camera that is slightly better than both of the other two choices (in my opinion) for different reasons. Thanks again for your quality content. (see ya - LOL)
Well, the 5D Mark V is rumored to come out next year with 4K 60 Frames. So I'll just wait for that. 5D Mark IV for rent for now. But really can't go wrong with the 5D or EOS R
Saying that it depends on the next RF body, which might come up before the Tokyo Olympics as well. I think a lot of people will be waiting now. Also Canon will concentrate on RF lenses now and it is a future system so will get more attention. It would be a good move if C. just put new sensor and processor into 5D and leave the rest as is and call it the last 5D ... and offer a reasonable price. ;)
I wonder how they feature for weather sealing - I'm thinking between the 5div and eos R at the moment having had time with both of them. I can see benefits of each of them over each other, but I'm also out and about quite a bit too, so durability is something I'm thinking about.
Not many reviews/videos really talk about how you can setup automatic backup to another device so it acts as a dual card slot. I talked to someone at a conference recently that would take the pictures, it would automatically backup and go to his team to be edited while he was out on location.
These videos have been so valuable - Honestly it's clear he loves Nikon, so I am leaning towards the EOS R or the Nikon z6 or z7 - but honestly it's feeling like I am going to go with the Canon EOS R. Any advice on what my first lens should be to go with the Canon EOS R?
Where was this video a month ago... lol I had to tweet Stephen lol!!! But I just decided to get a 6Dmkii such a step up from the T3i I was using before lol 😂
I just got a 6d mk2 but now I am second guessing myself. The EOS R seems a little better...or just more interesting ? Sadly, its the lens available for it that is causing me to want to upgrade, which is the 24-70mm 2.8 with the IS.
Same here, i have the old 60d and eos m5. No need for full frame until they get their crap together. Their giving me the images i desire. I do have L glass but wont switch to full frame bc of the Canon tactics. Some people say is a waist to use L glass on crop sensor but i disagree. It looks fantastic to me.
As ANOTHER option for those of you WILLING to go for used cameras, I see that used Canon 1Dx Mark 1's are going for between $2000 to $2500 in good shape on eBay! It may be only 18.1 megapixels but it TRULY IS A PROFESSIONAL fully-weather-sealed camera and ironically the lower pixel count means slightly larger photosites which will mostly match the newer 5D Mk4 camera in low light situations. And to save some money on lenses, I would SERIOUSLY look at the Sigma Art Series Trinity of a 50mm, 85mm and 135mm prime lenses and their Contemporary (or Sports version1) 150mm to 650mm zoom lens which absolutely kicks the rest to the curb in terms of value-for-money! I would rather have the TRULY PRO BODY over the latest features since technique and experience mated to good glass can easily make up for any PERCEIVED lack of features and technology! .
pls dont, I got the 6dii since launch, believe me, it's a terrible camera for video and photo, 1080p looks so blurry and the IQ was far better in my old 6d mark I.
@@jesusalbertobf ...there must something wrong with your body... much other love the 6DII for using with video...but... maybe there ist a better solution out there when video is the priority.
The video is pretty good, out of the box far better than the final output of YT. Okay, if you want to play vids at home on a huge screen, maybe, but then all the dgi drones will look crap too. So what are you going to use to get pro footage? The video is good not fantastic, but as i have posted, a great all round camera and has a flippy screen which is so usable. I don’t think professional grade, but great for an enthusiast or hobbist that has not got huge money to throw at the hobby. A excellent camera for vlogging, insta, FB or sharing photos on line. It also has double level IS in the camera which works pretty well, although crops heavily on enhanced, but really usable for walking and talking.
Alberto Beltran Peter Mackinnon uses the 6D Mark II as his vlogging camera. YC Imaging shot music videos off of it, I know people personally who used the camera to start there business. I think this camera will be good for me. The Sony a7III will be my secondary hybrid. But for now, coming from a canon t6 which I gained a decent online following from with my photos the quality will be improved.
Thanks Jared, your reviews are always super detailed and helpful. The question is, if all signs point to Eos R, then whats the incentive to buy the 5Dm4 which is more expensive? I'm a 5Dm2 user and looking to upgrade this year. I hacked a focus peaking feature with Magic Lantern on the m2. Does the EOS R synch with Capture One's live view feature like it does with the 5D?
What I need is a 7D Mk III with today's specs, not yesterday's. If Canon makes that, I'll buy. If they roll out a 1DX MK III which kicks ass and doubles it's pixel count, while maintaining that FPS rate with a good buffer, I'm willing to tighten up my belt and shell out big money for that. Canon is behind in the DSLR game, and mirrorless isn't quite there yet for sport and wildlife.
Let me save you 23mins, he loves the eos r
With good reason
Just picked up the EOS R. Still own my 6D. I’ll tell you it’s worth the upgrade. Tons of useful features 👍
What’s it like hands on shoooting. Is the menus system quick to navigate if I need to change stuff on the fly. Is the touch screen a pain and adjusting focus with ya cheek or nose happen? Lol

21 minutes into the vid, I read this comment tnx.
Wow so many bitter Canon haters here. Canon's colour balance is still my favourite.
Nizar Noor Their cameras have a lower dynamic colour range, but I’ve always preferred it too... You can fix contrast and colours in Post anyway. Sharp images are top priority
Canon cameras may not be the latest or best tech, but I prefer them for; color balance, good ergonomics for my hands, intuitive button layout and menu system, very good selection of lenses on the market.
this is dumb, dynamic color range doesnt exist.. i think you mean dynamic range (as in stops of contrast that can be recorded)
Same here
I agree. I use Nikon and love the specs more but Canon's color is SO much better....
I always loved these quotes:
"Good camera doesn't make you pro.
Everybody has good legs, but not everyone can be footballer.
So choose whatever you FEEL it's FUN."
To be honest, none of those three are much better than the competitor.
@@valdius85 They can. They just don't offer it.
Canon probably just testing the market with the EOS R.
@@kikipratama1 Very likely. Old school Japanese salaryman mentality is still there high up in the management... :(

I think most people invested in Canon will just wait to see what is happening. Too bad for C. as some of them will leave.
@@valdius85 Let them be. Perhaps Canon has its own strategy by letting "everyone leave and then later make everyone back in."
It's a big win if it happens.
Lol.
@@Ingemann. Is the grip really so good in EOS R? It felt good when I had a quick look at the shop. It is important for me.

@@randydietmeyer5883 can you please explain why? Thanks in advance

Maximum Usable ISO Setting (MUIS). Pronounce it like its French, "mwee"
@@harrisonvoorhees LOL, I love it! "Excuse me but what's the mwee on that camera"?
Cheers!!!

This video is biased. This guy loves the EOS R. Canon 5D Mark IV is a better camera on those cameras above.
How do the 3 cameras fare against each other in low light and dynamic range?
We own the 6d Mark ii and have had no problems at all. You can fix anything in the Raw.... lol.

What about durability? Battery life? Weather resistance? Actual picture comparisons?
Good comparison. Just bought the EOS R, super happy.
What You this is Canon R better then A7R III?
welp, I got the 6D mark II because of price, also I already have some EF lenses and don't feel confident enough to get the other two, which are pricier and the EOS R seems like Canon is still figuring out their mirrorless game(better wait for the next iterations)
I Agree - I think Canon was holding out on the 2 card slot to put in the next model to make everyone feel that you gotta buy the new one!!

No surprises, the new camera is better than the old one's however...if I want to use 1 for a PAID job, go for MarkIV.

I'll probably get flamed for this, but just a few questions after watching…
1. Are we to assume that, the camera that amasses the most check marks, is the best camera to buy?…
2. Since a camera is just a tool, can your checkmark amassing strategy also be utilised when deciding on what other tools to buy, like say; pencils?…
3. What benefit, if any does the checkmark amassing system have on the buyers artistic and creative output?…
4. Does the checkmark amassing strategy actually have any real merit?
5. If amassing the checkmarks don't actually relate to which camera to buy, what real purpose do they serve?

sold my R, RP and M50 last year. Bought 6dII in 2023, and a mint 5dII in 2024. And an R50 for my business to shoot quick videos with Eye Tracking. But for stills the old cameras are so much more fun for me.
WOW, nice gun's!! Keep up the good work man!!
8:08 “nobody gets a check mark” 😂
Question for Jared or anyone else: If tracking a fast moving object ( birds, sports, etc.) do you feel there is a lag time in mirrorless cameras ( speciifcally the EOS R) with what you see in the view finder and where the action /focus point actually is?
Longest EOS R commercial ever
I have a Canon 90D, which I love, but want to upgrade to a full frame for landscape/astrophotography. Not wanting to go mirrorless because of price and my lack of experience. Plus the EOS R has been discontinued. So for 2024, stick with the affordable 6D Mark II or should I future proof with the R6?
Thank you.. I have a Canon 70D and a 6D but I want an up grade and this video gave me great food 🥘 for thought🔥🙌🏽🙌🏽
"NOBODY gets a check mark!" -- I totally lost it when you said that. The people in the lobby here must think I'm crazy.
You always do the reviews I want to see 💙
I think another reason for the higher buffer on the R is also the CR3 format.
Mark IV all day long
as this video shows, the 6D2 is just a beginner full frame camera. I guess you could compare to the R but no way you can compare to the 5D4
Too bad that extra slot is going to cost me an extra grand plus I'll have a lesser camera... good job canon! 😑
I totally agree with you. I had all those models (plus a 5ds) and currently, I'm having a blast with the R. I just wish it had a double sd slot and Ibis. Besides that, the sheet spec doesn't make justice at all.
Same two bodies I have.
Glass is not glass if used on a crop sensor camera lol Put that L lens on a full frame camera, you'll immediately sell your 80D... No comparison.
The 80d made me a travel youtuber, I can't thank that camera enough
I know you know photo, Mr. Fro.
Thanks fro the content of this video. I fulfilled our dreams.
for soccer or any other sport - which one is the best ?
Well, the 5D Mark V is rumored to come out next year with 4K 60 Frames. So I'll just wait for that. 5D Mark IV for rent for now. But really can't go wrong with the 5D or EOS R
Saying that it depends on the next RF body, which might come up before the Tokyo Olympics as well. I think a lot of people will be waiting now.
Also Canon will concentrate on RF lenses now and it is a future system so will get more attention.
It would be a good move if C. just put new sensor and processor into 5D and leave the rest as is and call it the last 5D ... and offer a reasonable price. ;)
@@valdius85 Not really as I wouldn't buy it. It will need to have 4K at 60.
I wonder how they feature for weather sealing - I'm thinking between the 5div and eos R at the moment having had time with both of them. I can see benefits of each of them over each other, but I'm also out and about quite a bit too, so durability is something I'm thinking about.
Buy the 80D, or wait for the 90D!
Not many reviews/videos really talk about how you can setup automatic backup to another device so it acts as a dual card slot. I talked to someone at a conference recently that would take the pictures, it would automatically backup and go to his team to be edited while he was out on location.
Bought the EOS R, hate the OVF, anyone wanna swap a mint 5D4 for it?
^^ after some A7 i switched back to DSLR, because i like mirror more for night shots... after 5DIII, i bougt 6DII... because the flipscreen.. ;)
Been using T3i for ages, even for paid event. I need to seriously upgrade
I'm using a t4i im planning to buy a full frame next year but I'm confused between these 3 😔.
@@tysongaming13 Same. Been using the 60D and I'm indecisive between the 5DMKIV and the EOS R/R5. Gotta have dual card slots for weddings.
5D Mark 4 still my favourite !!
Ok I thought about it and the decision is easy: buy a Nikon
But I agree with your checkmarks.
Okay
Buy a two Nikon D3, iam very happy
buy a fuji!!!!
@@typoded I'm thinking about a XH1 to go with my SL2
I agree with this comment. But some 12 year old Canon fanboy is going to end up bashing this reply section 🤣
As a beginner which should I go with? Canon EOS r or Sony alpha r3?
Nope, staying with 80D
Same here, i have the old 60d and eos m5. No need for full frame until they get their crap together. Their giving me the images i desire. I do have L glass but wont switch to full frame bc of the Canon tactics. Some people say is a waist to use L glass on crop sensor but i disagree. It looks fantastic to me.
dude, you must try the Full Frame. they can change your perspective :)
@@fullandstarving Maybe.
THIS IS MY HOLY GRAIL VIDEO. THE VIDEO I’VE BEEN SEARCHING FOR. HALLELUJAH
Worst dump reviews from expert..
Looking at description and giving tick mark not an expert reviews or comparison
I would rather have the TRULY PRO BODY over the latest features since technique and experience mated to good glass can easily make up for any PERCEIVED lack of features and technology!
.
I'm going to buy the 6DMark II for Photography, Music Videos and Vlogging. ✌️🏾
pls dont, I got the 6dii since launch, believe me, it's a terrible camera for video and photo, 1080p looks so blurry and the IQ was far better in my old 6d mark I.
I go for the Canon 1V. Digital sucks😃

Ik heb voor jou nog een weinig gebruikte EOS 30 met eye focusing....

f p Ben be ieuwd!
When he said "Photooe" i cringed!
id love to see this with the 6D mkII and the EOS RP those 2 cameras are basically "the next step up" for me and retail at roughly the same price
