It's weird that Image Quality wasn't on your list. For me that's the most important factor. I find the 5D series produce nicer looking images than than the R series. I literally sold my R5 and bought back a 5D mk3 because of this reason.
the term 'image quality' is highly subjective. I disagree with your assessment, and prefer the image quality coming out of my R6. how would I assign a point to a category based on personal opinion? much more effective to break down 'image quality' as a combination of sensor size, megapixels, dynamic range, rolling shutter, low-light performance, and lens options, all of which were individually referenced in this video
@@kevinraposo Those things are definitely valuable things to know about, but they aren't what I'm talking about. If you judge a camera by dynamic range, low-light performance, rolling shutter etc, Leica would come bottom of the list. I don't think it's entirely subjective, but it is arguably a hard thing to quantify. Maybe it's just me. I largely prefer the EF primes to the RF ones too. I have the RF 50mm f/1.2L and while it's optical 'perfect', it lacks the character of its EF counterpart (despite the softness and chromatic aberration). It's like if I took a Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 and shot it at F/4 at 35mm, and I took the EF 35mm f/1.4L and shot it at the same settings, the Tamron would be sharper, cleaner, with less distortion, less vignetting etc. But the 35mm L lens would produce a nicer image. Why is it better? I couldn't break it down to explain it. It kind of just… is.
Finally someone mentioned the image quality part, thanks brother. Horrible colors SOOC. I have an R6 and a 5DC, havent touched R6 after getting hands on 5DC. Looking for a similar camera with few additional features, more focus points and live view mainly. Confused between 5diii vs 5div. Looking for better colors! Could you advice?
I own both, and even though I love the great features of the R6 over the 5DMK4, I'm keeping both. The 5DMK4 is a war horse build to last and I'm used to its buttons, dials and wheels. It's been a great camera for 3 yrs for me.. But I also have to admit that the focusing system, the eye detection, the EVF, and the flip screen of the R6 are game changers for me. Thanks for the good video 👍
@@seancoombes3446 - Hi Sean. All I have is EF "L" lenses and they all work flawlessly with the adapter. Focusing is fast and accurate, I would say this was the feature that appealed me the most when I rented the R6 before I bought it. I'd advice you to rent it first if your in doubt but I'm sure you won't be disappointed. I was debating between the R5 and the R6 just because of the sensor resolution as 20MP were not too appealing to me, but I have not had any issues with it and I have done some (moderate) cropping with my pictures with great results. Well, I could go on but I think this answers you question, Sean. The R6, in my opinion, is superior to the 5DMK4 I've been using for several years and I simply love it. Hope this helps and I if you need any extra info, I'll be more than happy to help. Good luck 👍
How do you feel about the image quality and the difference in resolution? Does the noise level and sharpness of the R6 compensate for the drop from 30 to 20 Mpx?
@@muresansergiubohdan - At the time I'm responding to this question, I no longer have the 5DMK4, I sold it as I completely transitioned to mirrorless. I continue to use the R6 and, in relation to your question, I don't miss/need the extra 10 Mpxs of the 5DMK4. I still regard that camera as a great one but the DSLR days are gone for me. The R6 has always met my expectations in sharpness, noise and low light conditions, pretty much in every field except in one: cropping from a far subject like birds. To compensate, I bought a canon 100-400 mm L lens with a 1.4x teleconverter and results have been fantastic. There was a time I felt tempted to get the R5 because of this reason, but as somebody wisely wrote somewhere in a video comment here..."you don't need to get another camera, you just need to get closer". That comment made me change my mind and saved me about $2000 dollars...I have not regretted doing so 😉
Just sold my 5D body. After getting the R6 I never reached for it. I didn’t feel like holding on to it was worth it so i out the money towards rf85 1.2. Literally a dream
How do you find the raw files of the r6? I’ve heard the raw colors strong out of the markiv are better especially beacuse of the canon profiles! Have you noticed ?
5-axis image stabilization of R6 also works with EF-mount lenses, for EF-lenses without IS, pitch/yaw, X/Y and roll work only with the IBIS. For lenses with an optical IS pitch/yaw works with the lens IS and the other 3 axis with IBIS.
Excellent review, love the Canon 5D mark 4 ,after thousands of Wedding Day & Events, fashion and Portraits. The R5 and R6 are next level pro cameras. Not to mention the new Rf lenses.
Thank you! This is a great comparison. I've been looking far a camera for video and still photography, but it's hard to find one that excels at both. Good to know the 5d isn't what I'm looking for!
Thank you Kevin, this is what a comparison test should always be. Said that, I never shoot videos; I like travel/landscape photography and indoor-tragic-light basket photography; in the second case I have to often shoot at 20/32.000 ISO, even with a 2.8 L lens. So I'm still a bit uncertain about the upgrade to the 6R, but I'll probably do it very soon. Thank you again Luigi
Thank you, this was informative. I went mirrorless last year and I've been missing the sturdiness of the 5D line but there were other factors that I wasn't considering until I watched your video. I wish we could have it all! lol
For me, it's not a close comparison at all. The thing is, with the R6 I get image stabilization with my old EF 50mm f1.4 and 100mm f2, makin them so much more useful for me. Also, the autofocus is just amazing compared to the 5D series. Both these big-aperture lenses were really hard to focus correctly, as the focus plane is extremely thin, and it is curved. Now with this excellent AF, I get perfect in-focus shots across the entire frame 99% of the time. The improvement here is simply massive. As a stills photographer, there is no question at all which one to get.
@@destiny3403 Sure, you can grab a cheap EF to RF converter from Canon, and every EF lens will work 100% perfectly. My old lenses are GREAT with the R6 stabilizer :)
Thanks for that comparison. Ultimately, your first question is if you need to make any changes. If you've mastered your 5D and you're getting the results you need, put the wallet back in your pocket. If you're a pro and you do a lot of video, perhaps the 5D is now your back up camera. As a pro once told me: 'there's a lot of expensive equipment out there capturing mediocre images'. Yes, it is refreshing to see Canon finally innovating again (thanks to Sony), and with competition intensifying, it means innovate or die. So, the R6 you have now will probably get to the '5D phase' a lot sooner than your 5D did. With Sony discounting their models on a regular basis, you can bet the R6 (and R5) will be declining in price too...and more than 300.00. So if you don't really need it right now...be patient. In the meantime, let's see what Canon does with the R3 !!
I'm not so sure about that price development. I own my 5D mark IV three years now, and the price difference between what I paid and the price now is € 200,- The R6 stayed on the same price level pretty much the whole first year. I think Canon is counting on the loyalty of users just because they already own the glass. (Although with that in mind I feel they should have thrown in that EF-RF-adapter for free). I for one are still using my EF lenses and I don't plan on replacing them since I think they are absolutely wonderful and I still use the 5D IV alongside the R6...
very good comparison test that really touches the important points. I also like that you pointed out that performance is not everything and that the preference of the person behind the camera also counts.
What a BEAUT REVIEW!! You hit on so many selling points for me as a wedding photographer . Eye tracking, Buffering, Low light, Dual cards match... the list goes on! I'm one of the last hold outs in my industry IMO but I just felt like my customers wouldn't know the quality difference.... which they prob won't but after having a second shooter slay it with a R5, especially in the dark, I had to look into the advantages. TY!
Really appreciate this. I've got/love my 5Div as my primary body with a 7Dii as the backup. I've found that I never pick up the 7Dii anymore - for me, the 5Div does a better job in all areas of my photography (birding, airshows, dog shows, watersports). Because of this, I thought it might be a good time to step into the mirrorless world IF the new body would be complementary to the 5Div or vice versa. From what I've read and what I saw in the vid - that isn't really the case with the R6. In many ways, they sound like they are very similar. With the exception of the autofocus, the pluses for the R6 aren't game changers for me, which makes me think that at the current price point, the R6 isn't a good investment for me.
Update for 8:20 - after the latest firmware update 1.4.0 of the R6 it is possible to write redundant video simultaneously to both SD card slots. It also allows for Log 3. Simply lovely!
OMG thank god I FOUND YOUR CHANNEL! Finally reviews that don't give me a migraine. I have been delaying buying camera gear because I am not the most tech-y person out there, and most reviews on cameras talk too much and might as well be speaking chinese with some of the vocabulary. This is perfect. To the point. Comprehensive and with actual visual examples. Thank you thank you thank you.
I have a R6 and an 5D Mark III. I love the 5D Mark III more, because of the build quality and it feels more like a camera not a computer. The AF is also fast enough for weddings, and the image quality is exact the same. I love top display and overall design. It is crazy because im a dslm user for years and first got the R6 (after some Sonys) and then the 5D III (my first Canon DSLR) on Ebay.
I switched from the 5D4 to the R6 and am mostly happy. The new focus systems are amazing for animals. Sports are still canceled where I am... The missing top LCD drives me nuts. My 1986 Minolta 7000i had one and every camera I've owned since. You can add a PC sync port via a $5 hot shoe mount to any camera as the hot shoe does the same thing.
@@Furudo If you are adapting any EF lenses, get the real Canon adapter. Third party ones are often problematic, where the canon ones work perfectly (in my experience) When you can, move to RF lenses. They are all just a little better/sharper/faster focusing. (again, this is my experience)
This is the first time I've come across your videos and i must say, I'm very impressed! Outstandingly professional video and great detail, subscription well earned!
R6 4K 24 has never overheated for me in the real world, even rolling for hours (30 min then quick card swap) out in Joshua Tree. Wouldn't worry about it too much. YMMV
Excellent video. Concise. Covers all the key considerations. I love my 5D Mark IV, am going to rent the R6 this weekend to give it a spin thanks to your video. Nicely done.
While Canon don't recommend 'dangling a camera by fingertips', they recognize this dangling as an important factor for comfort. So, Canon has been designing their cameras considering many situations which includes dangling the camera by only one middle finger. 'Canon Imaging Plaza' channel told this point in their video on March 1, 2021. I think R6 isn't a successor of 6Ds, but real sibling of R5.
What usually works is loosely wrapping the neck strap around your wrist, while 'dangling' the camera in your hand. I never had a situation where the camera actually dropped on the floor, but I did have a slip on a stair case covered in moss, where my immediate reaction was to hold camera close to my body, bruising my shoulder. So I guess it's part of the initiation process on walking around with a camera. I personally hate using neck straps, it's fatiguing after a day's walk.
Thanks for the information, it was interesting hearing your take on this current photographic dilemma. I also spent a large part of my photographic life as a sports photographer. The difference is that when I started in photography there was not even autofocus never mind digital. The way of the future is without a doubt mirrorless, but DSLR's still have some life left. Probably because am really old, I still prefer the naked image in the DSLR viewfinder. There is one point you did fail to mention. The cost of new glass. Canon RF lenses have more than doubled in price over Canon EF lenses. Also the R3 will be out in a couple months. If the rumors are correct. The current pricing of the R5 is about a grand too high.
Thanks for taking the time to comment, sounds like you've had a lot of interesting experiences! You're correct, I failed to mention the increased cost of RF lenses mainly because the EF to RF adapter performance was pretty much flawless in my experience. Anybody looking to continue using cheaper EF mount lenses could do so without compromising quality.
Thanks for the video, R6 just ordered, was about a time to move from the original 6D. I did not mind the picture quality at all, i did mind, however, the slow AF and a lot of action shots - kids running around, dog photos etc., were just problematic to capture many times. Looking forward to the new camera :)
@@sylvoniaa Hey Pixie, if the question was meant to be directed to me, then I do not think 5D4 is bad camera whatsoever, but the R6 has autofocus advantage, tilting screen - big advantage for video, but I found myself using it super often for stills too. Just the reality of not having to manually choose autofocus point no more is a huge plus for me. Honestly since upgrading from 6D it is like day and night shooting experience. The tilting display is perfect for low angle shots of smaller dog breeds like ours are, and eye-level photography of kids is great with it as well, I barely ever use viewfinder now. Overall, if the budget is not a limiting factor, I would go for R6 any day over DSLR. Good luck choosing the right machine.
Hi Kevin. You're amazing and detailed analysis and views on both gears are astonishing. It's easy to understand. This channel is highly recommended, deserve a follow. Kudos.
I own Both cameras and I really love my 5dmarkiv the r6 a superb camera!! but I notice the look on the pics are abit creamy with rf lenses and I don’t always prefer that look . So I tend to shoot with the 5dmarkiv more when the r6 only primarily for my professional work markiv back up camera .
I love how the images look with the 5D MKIV too! It’s sort of different and shadows are more in depth in my opinion. But I really want an R6 to see what RF lenses are all about!
If you're a hybrid shooter the R6 is a no brainer. But if you focus mostly on photos the 5D mkIV, to me, still has the edge. I own both and the R6 feels like a toy, I don't like the button displacement (and the size of rear dial), the lack of a top display and the cheap feel of the body. I also like more the optical viewfinder over the electronic one. Sure, AF is inferior in the 5D, but, to me it's not that much of a difference all in all, unless you use servo most of the times. It's also important to consider that if you use EF lenses they're gonna feel really unbalanced on the R6 because the adapter. Last but not least: if you use adobe softwares and you also like the look of canon camera colors or, like me, you start to process from one of the camera colors, you're gonna be disappointed because there's no support by today and it's likely there's never going to be any. You'll be forced to process R6 raw files starting from adobe proprietary color profiles, for some people it's not a problem but this is something worth to mention. By today the only R camera that has this feature on abode softwares is the R. So, well, I'm keeping both bodies but as my main camera I still use the 5D, but consider that I shoot mostly stills. The R6 is my backup body for perfect AF needs and excellent high iso performances
Try the 5D4 in live view and you will see that the focus is on par with R6. At least for stills. For videos it won't make much of a difference either. When using the optical viewfinder focus you are actually using a 20+ year old technology and cannot expect spectacular results.
I shoot mostly still, but they are stills of action. The 12fps mechanical and 20fps electronic, and eye and body tracking put the R6 in a whole different league. A game changer.
As an enthusiast, the 5D4 is all I need. It has traveled with me from the far east to Europe, survived rough handling from Airport security who think that slamming a camera bag on the xray belt to get a better look again is alright etc. You are right its built like a tank!
Thank you for this short and very effective comparison. I've been a 5DMk4-shooter for almost five years and I just recently (two weeks ago) bought the R6. Don't miss the "missing" 10 MPs at all, love the increased lowlight quality - and the new autofocus just blows me away. From my point of view your result (12 by 10) looks too close because I give by far the most weight on the AF. So for me the R6 is the way better camera although I love my heavy duty 5D4 with more than 400.000 shots and no issue at all. Will never sell it and still use it for studio work or good daylight conditions. But the R6 will be my new workhorse - may it wind up as solid as the 5D4.
You sound like me, and how happy I felt after upgrading! I do agree the point system is flawed, but I figured it was the easiest way to quantify this comparison. Everyone should weight the categories depending on what matters the most to them
Do you find any differences in the raw files? The mark iv has dedicated picture profiles and the r6 does not. How much different do the skin tones look and which do you prefer,?
@@kingofpresets8437 Hi, thank you for the question. Unfortunately I can't answer it because I haven't tested the difference in skin tones yet. And I doubt that I will do this in the future because I don't feel the need for comparisons. Maybe because there is no big difference. And picture profiles? Tell me if I'm wrong, but I think those are important for capturing videos only. As I really never do this, it's not relevant for me and I can't answer this question either. Sorry for not being as helpful as you hoped, but over all I'm more interested in capturing moments than checking technical details. What I actually prefer in a camera is a certain ruggedness, good ergonomics, and a fast and accurate autofocus. That's what I got with the R6. Have a nice day :-)
I got the R6 because I was chasing low light performance. Exposure simulation in the EVF has made an enormous difference in the quality of my shots. My handle on the exposure triangle has gotten much, much better being able to adjust settings and see results real time. No blackouts when burst shooting animals? ✅ Advanced functionality with Q button in EVF instead of top lcd? ✅
One thing to keep in mind is while mirrorless cameras are great for simulating exposure before you take the shot you do need to be cognizant of the settings because in my experience when I'm under extreme fast moments, you can crank up your iso to increase exposure without realizing you turned it enormously because it's doesn't stimulate noise. Or if you turn down shutter speed too low and your subject is too blurry due to subject motion or camera shake since the simulation cannot approximate that
What an awesome no BS comparison. I must say I was surprised by how well you scored the 5DIV. I don't care about video capabilities or the enhanced AF features so in this case, 5DIV is the best for me.
So I'm going to purchase the R6 but not sure which lens....I'm new to all this. Most of my shots right now will be for my kids sports and lots of stills?
Nice video. Very informative. I am a full-time pro and I use a 5D Mk IV and R6. I'd be interested to know how the R6 holds up, long term, to the type of weather Kevin has to subject it to when shooting sports. My Mk IV has been literally rained on before and kept performing.
I can tell you that I have shot with the R6 under light rain without issue, but I do not believe the weather-sealing is as robust as the 5D4. I probably wouldn't feel comfortable keeping it out in a torrential downpour
Very informative comparison. I have a 5D Mark IV and a 70D that I stopped using several years ago. I've thought about getting another camera with a faster frame per second since most of the events I photograph include dancing and other fast movements. I also occasionally photograph my university's basketball games that could benefit from a camera with a faster fps.

I have had it since 2016, after taking 200,000 shots, I bought a new Canon EOS 5D mark IV, I also tried R-ko, the advantages were almost unknown and the control was impractical
I swapped from the 5d3 to the RP and I definitely miss the feel of the 5d3 even though the RP specs are far superior. I ordered the R6 a couple of days ago. Hopefully the R6 has the video shooting experience that became so big with the 5d lineup
Thank you for making this. I've been doing RE photo and video on the 6D for a few years and I wanted to switch to Sony (a7 III) but really didn't want to leave Canon. I wasn't sure if switching to the R6 would make sense since it is the same MP as the 6D. After looking at the high ISO performance and video quality you provided, it's sold me. I don't need R5 level stills for most of my work so this looks like a great fit. Also, with the advent of the drop-in filter EF lens adapter, I can finally use a polarizer or ND filter with all of my lenses and not have to carry a whole box around with me.
Just a question: where does the development of R6 leave R and RP? Before the recent models, these were the offerings from canon, RP being the entry level body like 6D, and R being the mid level body like 5D range...

Really good review, nice to be able to watch one video and be in a position where you can make a choice between two cameras. The R6 looks good but the electronic viewfinder is not for me, optical for me. When i shoot in manual mode inside 1/200th 200ISO f5.6 with flash I can still see the room with an optical viewfinder.
just bought a beat up shitty old 5d mk3 and been meaning to upgrade soon now that I'm learning more. Been on the fence about whether to go with the 5d mk4 or the R6, this really helped me a lot! does the 5D Mark 4 not have a medium or small RAW shooting mode that shoots at a lower megapixel count? Seems like the megapixels point category would be erroneous if that were the case.
What would this person use it for? That determines what gear you need. For instance, I do youth sports and sell onsite. I do NOT need a high burst frame rate as we do not delete anything or edit anything before it is displayed on our laptops at the venue. That comment made me change my mind and saved me about $2000 dollars...I have not regretted doing so 😉
The most thorough video I have seen so far on UA-cam.. Great work Kevin
Just got thee 5dmIV and love it !!!!
when you said you like to give people heart attacks by dangling the camera by your fingertips LOL I FELT THAT 😂😂😂
Somehow, not a single camera drop while doing this for over ten years... but I'm sure that will eventually change lol.
That was hands down the best comparison video involving the R6. It also provided me with some valuable insights, cheers.
I appreciate it, and glad it was helpful! Thanks
the comments at the end are true, i havent seen your content before but it is straight to the point and doesnt have much fluff. So great review!
I appreciate it!
Hi
I like to shoot short movie so which one is good for professional
Excellent and comprehensive video, with no flannel or fluff. Thkz.
glad it was helpful!
5-axis image stabilization of R6 also works with EF-mount lenses, for EF-lenses without IS, pitch/yaw, X/Y and roll work only with the IBIS. For lenses with an optical IS pitch/yaw works with the lens IS and the other 3 axis with IBIS.
A quality detailed review without unnecessary waffled! Subbed.

Excellent review, love the Canon 5D mark 4 ,after thousands of Wedding Day & Events, fashion and Portraits. The R5 and R6 are next level pro cameras. Not to mention the new Rf lenses.
Thanks for watching!
Great review. Thank you!!! I am on the fence between a used 5DM4 and a new R6. This was the best comparison I've seen/read.
Thank you! This is a great comparison. I've been looking far a camera for video and still photography, but it's hard to find one that excels at both. Good to know the 5d isn't what I'm looking for!
Glad it was helpful!
the 5D MK4 kills at both

this went seriously in-depth, nice job
very good explanation ! thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Glad it was helpful Luigi
You can use EF lenses with the R6? I thought you could only use RF lenses
@@destiny3403 Sure, you can grab a cheap EF to RF converter from Canon, and every EF lens will work 100% perfectly. My old lenses are GREAT with the R6 stabilizer :)

much appreciated 👍
My 6D mark II just died, and I was between the mark IV or the R6, and thanks to this video I'm going to change for the R series. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Very precise and appropriate comparison. After watching this video I have made up my mind to go for R6. Hey Kevin, you have earned a subscriber.
Thank you very much. Glad this helped you to make a decision!
very good comparison test that really touches the important points. I also like that you pointed out that performance is not everything and that the preference of the person behind the camera also counts.
I appreciate it, and glad the comparison was helpful!
Very detailed comparison! Nice job 👍🏾
TY!
glad it was helpful!
Very good work. This is a thorough comparison.
Thanks a lot!
Does anyone know what website he was looking at used cameras on at 1:18
Pretty sure it was B&H?
Same here :) I shoot motorsports and after I got a 5Div I rarely use the 7Dii - there's just no comparison.
@@kadinaator I got to that point with 7d1 and 6d a long time ago.
Stick to your 5D MKIV, it's so much better than the R6, especially regarding the 30MP resolution over the paltry 20MP of the amateur R6.
Wow, such a great review. I love how you take into consideration that is YOUR perspective for YOUR taste & style of photography.

The button placement on the 5D mk4 is clearly supperior

Update for 8:20 - after the latest firmware update 1.4.0 of the R6 it is possible to write redundant video simultaneously to both SD card slots. It also allows for Log 3. Simply lovely!

Great review man! Your a professional 👏
Great audio

I have a R6 and an 5D Mark III.
I love the 5D Mark III more, because of the build quality and it feels more like a camera not a computer. The AF is also fast enough for weddings, and the image quality is exact the same. I love top display and overall design.
It is crazy because im a dslm user for years and first got the R6 (after some Sonys) and then the 5D III (my first Canon DSLR) on Ebay.
Your right
I just bought this camera today. your video inspired me. thanks a lot.
glad to hear, and glad it was helpful!
Did you ever get over the lack of the top LCD? I feel like I'm going to miss it a lot but really can't justify an extra $1k+ for the R5.
@@Furudo Yea. There is a lot to get used to. It's more computer than manual camera. But the photos are fantastic.
@@TexMex421 Thanks, that's good to know. Very excited to try it out. I'm upgrading from a 60D so it's going to be huge.
@@Furudo If you are adapting any EF lenses, get the real Canon adapter. Third party ones are often problematic, where the canon ones work perfectly (in my experience)
When you can, move to RF lenses.

YMMV
100% agree, very similar real-world experience

@@kevinraposo You gained a new subscriber -- I am a sucker for a well organized video/ review!
I dangle, too. But with a write strap. I refuse to use anything around my neck or over my shoulder.
Great! No wasted time. Direct to the point
Great comparison. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Would you let me know which camera you have used to shoot this picture? 6:23
Thanks for the video, R6 just ordered, was about a time to move from the original 6D. I did not mind the picture quality at all, i did mind, however, the slow AF and a lot of action shots - kids running around, dog photos etc., were just problematic to capture many times. Looking forward to the new camera :)
The 6D was my first full-frame camera, one of my favourite that I've ever owned! But you'll love the R6, enormous upgrade.
Hi, I’m also hoping to take a lot of action shots - kids & dogs. So do you mean that 5Dm4 is too slow from your experience? Thanks! :)
@@BrekoTa thank you so much for your reply 😊 I’ll go for the R6!

Hi Kevin. You're amazing and detailed analysis and views on both gears are astonishing. It's easy to understand. This channel is highly recommended, deserve a follow. Kudos.
The less megapixels is better for low light video so that’s why the R6 is only 20. That’s a point for R6 for sure for me.
Wooow! my dilemma sorted in less than 20 mins! Thanks R6 It is
glad it helped you make a decision!
I noticed this on the mirrorless cam that images look more digital/creamy
Exactly what i was looking for ! Thanks a lot for this feedback ! R6 here i come !
Glad I could help!
Great stuff. Lotta info no fluff. Subbed 👍🏻
Thanks a lot. Takes a lot of work, but glad it's appreciated
i have R6, 5D4 and a7III and to be honest R6 is the one i use the most. All the cameras are good imo.
Well said 💯💯💯💯💯
Try the 5D4 in live view and you will see that the focus is on par with R6. At least for stills. For videos it won't make much of a difference either. When using the optical viewfinder focus you are actually using a 20+ year old technology and cannot expect spectacular results.
@Steve Hadfield which ones the banana 🍌 n which ones the cucumber 🥒?
I shoot mostly still, but they are stills of action. The 12fps mechanical and 20fps electronic, and eye and body tracking put the R6 in a whole different league. A game changer.

As an enthusiast, the 5D4 is all I need. It has traveled with me from the far east to Europe, survived rough handling from Airport security who think that
slamming a camera bag on the xray belt to get a better look again is alright etc. You are right its built like a tank!
Absolutely, I sold it after making this video but I do miss how well-constructed it was
Thanks for the awesome and informative video.
Glad it was helpful!
Have a nice day :-)
Fabolous comparison.great job
Thank you Inigo
I got the R6 because I was chasing low light performance. Exposure simulation in the EVF has made an enormous difference in the quality of my shots. My handle on the exposure triangle has gotten much, much better being able to adjust settings and see results real time.
No blackouts when burst shooting animals? ✅
Advanced functionality with Q button in EVF instead of top lcd?
Or if you turn down shutter speed too low and your subject is too blurry due to subject motion or camera shake since the simulation cannot approximate that
Your comparison, sir, is just plain right informative and crystal clear!!! Keep up the good work!!!

I know this is a year old but you helped me a lot in making my choice with my upgrade purchase. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Been sold my 5DM4 and 70D and several L lenses. Leica SL2 I now have, has been eye opening in performance for my work.

Which lenses do you have?
Glad I could help someone with similar circumstances!
Just a question: where does the development of R6 leave R and RP? Before the recent models, these were the offerings from canon, RP being the entry level body like 6D, and R being the mid level body like 5D range...
Excellent straight forward and essential testing. Thank you Kevin.
thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
LOL...5DM4 price actually went up since Canon will discontinue the 5 series in 2 years.
Up? That sounds like a joke, because in Sweden the price has only gone down. But should still be half the price, If you look on what you get.
In the UK price is still high for the 5Dmkiv.

Really good review, nice to be able to watch one video and be in a position where you can make a choice between two cameras. The R6 looks good but the electronic viewfinder is not for me, optical for me. When i shoot in manual mode inside 1/200th 200ISO f5.6 with flash I can still see the room with an optical viewfinder.

does the 5D Mark 4 not have a medium or small RAW shooting mode that shoots at a lower megapixel count? Seems like the megapixels point category would be erroneous if that were the case.
Great point - but for the sake of this video, thought it would be more helpful to compare each camera using their maximum capabilities
So I need to know as someone upgrading from a canon 90 D would you upgrade to a 5dmkiv or a R6
What would this person use it for? That determines what gear you need. For instance, I do youth sports and sell onsite. I do NOT need a high burst frame rate as we do not delete anything or edit anything before it is displayed on our laptops at the venue. The kids don't want to look at 50 shots of a volleyball serve-they would get bored and leave
