Those look amazing! I just did my first 3d carve (the same eagle you did) this weekend. I was surprised by how easy it was, and how nice it looks... Your eagle/flag gives me an idea of a gift for a friend of mine, just got a bit promotion, disabled Navy vet... Thanks for sharing!
I made so many flags by hand a few years ago. Nothing looked like yours but man with a cnc it takes so much of the work load off you. I'm considering a shapeoko very soon to start trying something similar again but with the much needed help lol. Thanks for the vids. Very inspiring
Oh my gosh I absolutely love this I watched every single second I didn’t fast forward if anything I might have rewound just to rewatch some thing LOL but one of the many favorite parts of this video is when the CNC was doing the stars and on the right side of the screen you showed it slow down to really sure what it was doing in depth
I don't know if you were "complaining" about the unevenness of your stain on the eagle, 'cause pine does suck up stain very unevenly, but you could put down a coat of Zinsser shellac (spray can) give it a light sand then stain. The stain won't be so blotchy. Your waterbased finish will spray just the same -- no adhesion problems.
Love your videos!! Very helpful for newbie like myself. Have a shapeoko 3xxl that i bought used about 3 months ago. I've been using carbide create to learn. I upgraded to vectric software. Was it hard to learn how to set up tool paths and setting up new tools. Looks very confusing to newbie!! Love the eagle flag. Wanna learn to make things like that!!! Ty
Thank you! I’ll try to do a video of the design for ya. It’s pretty simple for the 3D image because it’s part of the clipart that comes with Vcarve Desktop Software
so far ive not found a reason to rough cut my 3d carves with the bit i use. and itsa cheapo im impressed with its performance and i save time on not needing a tool change. nice job youve done on the flags and video thanks for sharing. i like the drawing and carving but my finishing sucks lol
These look fantastic Also the time-lapse around the 7:30 mark reminds me of King of the Hill and how they done the intro to the show, the feels ^_^ Keep up the great work!
Wow!! They came out so nice. I still carve my stars by hand with my Dremel takes about a hour or (3 beers) I had my Shapeoko 4xxl for about two months but have not use it for any projects so far, I need to learn how to use it so I can make some cool projects like that. Great work great video.
I really like the way it does the star's..I been using a dremel and it's so time consuming.. I'd love to have one of those CNC machines but i'm not that Computer savvy. I'd be worried that the machine be more than i could handle. I really do like watching you. I remember your sign you did with a Harbor Freight router and it turned out great.. Those Flags look awesome.
Very nice work. I can think off a better way to Mae a little side money while doing amazing work and having fun doing it. I bought a shapeoko 3 early this year. I have not even tried to use it yet because I’m overwhelmed with it all. Excellent video
If you set your zero off the bottom instead of the top you never have to worry. Example.... what NEVER changes on a cnc ever (unless you surface of course)..... the wasteboard. You can have a disconnect or power failure or computer crash and return....the wasteboard will still be in the same place so you have Z taken care of. Plus if you add the Bitsetter it will handle everything after the initial setup.
Enjoy your videos, can you answer a question for me? At 3:56 how did you get VCarve to cut out the white leaving the red circle? When I do it, it cuts it out. Thanks trying to put 🙏 on it
Wondering if this can be done on a smaller cnc. I recently purchased a 3018 to get into the cnc world and came across your video and absolutely love this. If I can purchase a scaled down version of the gcode please let me know
Ok, these look amazing. I have been wanting to do a 3D carve but get lost on the software side of things. Can you do a video on how you set this up for 3d in CC and show your speeds and feeds?
Polycrylic by minwax from Lowe’s. You do not have to thin it out you can spray it straight from the gun. It is the cheap purple gun you can buy from Harbor freight. It also cleans up with hot water which is super easy
Absolutely love watching your videos. I would love to get into wood carving is there a beginer unit you would recommend that is on the easy side to learn? As always great video.
This Shapeoko is my first CNC. The machine isn’t the issue, the learning curve on the CAD software is what takes time. A lot of trial and error and UA-cam lol
I’m out of it right now and can’t remember what the name is but it’s easy to find. It’s made by minwax and you can only get that blue and red color from lowes so it’s their brand. When I make my next trip to pick some up I will let you know what the exact name is.
I use polycrylic from lowes made by minwax. I bought the purple paint sprayer from harbor freight and use that to apply. I don’t have to water it down at all. Also clean up is easy due to polycrylic being water based.
The wood is premium pine from lowes. 11.25” X 21” Best I can remember it took about 2 1/2hrs to carve. I run my machine a little slower to get more life out of my bits.
You might have a bit that doesn't come to a sharp point or is off center. I just bought a $60 90 degree V-bit that wasn't machined well and got terrible results ;-P Brand name too.
Man, I love this flag. I want to make one similar for my dad. I have 2 quick questions, if you dont mind. What do you use for the red and blue stain? And, what size ball nose did you use for the eagle carving? Thanks for the video.
I can’t remember the exact name but it’s the red and blue stain by minwax. You can only get this red and blue at Lowe’s. Home Depot’s is a shade different. Go look at the stains in lowes and you will see the red and blue on the minwax stain chart. Also I used a 1/4 end mill for clearing pass and a 1/8” ballnose for the finishing pass on the eagle.
Wow. That is awesome looking. Are you just using straight lumber stock? At first I was thinking you were using 3/4" birch plywood but now it seems to be straight lumber. Id love to be able to make something like this so any help is appreciated
I use this one from harbor freight. It runs everything I need in my shop. www.harborfreight.com/27-gallon-200-psi-high-performance-vertical-shopauto-air-compressor-56403.html
Hey! I am thinking of purchasing a Shapeoko 4XXL. I've been on the fence due to noise level. Would it be too loud for a townhome garage? Would I be likely to get noise complaints due to this machine?
Also if you use dust collection check out Fein Vacuum, thing is eerily quiet, I got two for both of my cnc, just got a cyclone yesterday and made it even quieter
Think about a water cooled spindle. Only sound you'll hear is the bit cutting. I have a small Avid CNC in a 10'x12' shop at home. Walls are insulated as is my tin roof. Outside my shop, it's not very loud 10 feet away. My shop vac is louder. Now, if you're in a townhouse (like a duplex or triplex with shared garage walls) then yeah, you're probably going to get complaints.
I came across a fully functioning 3xxl water cooled 1.5k vfd spindle for a good price. Do you think it’s okay to buy today as it has been around for over six years?

Ok, these look amazing. I have been wanting to do a 3D carve but get lost on the software side of things. Can you do a video on how you set this up for 3d in CC and show your speeds and feeds?
What size/type wood are you using? Is it a standard size you are buying at the store or are you cutting it down to size?
1x12 premium pine from lowes. I cut them to 21” length. The actual size is 11 1/4 wide x 21” long x 3/4” thick.
Would you share your settings on the eagle? I just figuring out how to 3D carve on the shapeoko. Thanks
Great video, beautiful flag. What are you using in your sprayer. I need to stop buying cans. Thank you.
Polycrylic by minwax from Lowe’s. You do not have to thin it out you can spray it straight from the gun. It is the cheap purple gun you can buy from Harbor freight. It also cleans up with hot water which is super easy

Fantastic... what’s your website for product information. Great Xmas gifts.

Wow someone with similar interests, cnc flags and carving and ATV/UTVing? Love your video. How much do you sell them foe?
Hopefully your still answering questions. What PSI are you running in the sprayer? I seriously need to dump the rattle cans.
I run it around 25-30psi
Anyone know what kind of toolpath the stars are in Fusion 360 ? Contour, engrave, pencil...
Looks amazing, do you have an Etsy ? And sell the svg or toolpaths g-codes?
What clear coat do you use And do you add any thing to thin it or a hardener to spray, what size nozzle and pressure do you recommend Thanks Mike

Thanks Mike
Keep slaying and being great 🤙‼️ do you sell the svg / c2d files for this ?
I don't know if I missed it, but was wondering... What is your technique for staining the eagle without getting stain on the stripes?
I used a Q-tip to get close to the edge then used a rag for the rest.
@@PoposWoodworks Perfect. Thanks. Always wanted to try something like this. Well done!
Just a couple a questions: what size is the wood and how long did that take start to finish? That flag really is beautiful!
The wood is premium pine from lowes. 11.25” X 21”
Best I can remember it took about 2 1/2hrs to carve. I run my machine a little slower to get more life out of my bits.
Simple question from an interested newbie: What was the thickness of the wood?
3/4” thick
Love the 3D but why are you leaving the red at the end of the white stripes? I feel you remove that. It will be perfect.
What size material do you use for your flags? Awesome video
1”x12”x8’ premium pine from lowes. The flags are 12”x21”.
Do you think your stain? I have such a hard tine with the solid color minwax stain, dries so fast and can't get it off
Awesome Job! How do you get your stars to come out so sharp? Mine always come out rounded at the points.
Plus your Z out a tad..it forces the tool to cut up and out of the wood, thus leaving the sharper edge 👍
You might have a bit that doesn't come to a sharp point or is off center. I just bought a $60 90 degree V-bit that wasn't machined well and got terrible results ;-P Brand name too.
Very nice, I would like to do one like this. What size are your Flags, 1 X 12 pine about 21” long? You make it look so easy 👍🏻
That’s right. I use the premium pine from lowes. I buy the 1x12x8 and cut them down to 21” long for my flags.

Hey! I am thinking of purchasing a Shapeoko 4XXL. I've been on the fence due to noise level. Would it be too loud for a townhome garage? Would I be likely to get noise complaints due to this machine?
A lot of people build enclosures to help dampen the sound.

How long does the cnc take to carve out one flag and eagle?
OK, what did you use to create the intro, vid and music?
Lol it’s one of the movie clips on the iMovie app that comes on the iPhone. I just tweaked it the way I wanted it.
@@PoposWoodworks haha thx for the reply, I dig the 60's vibe. I am gonna figure out a way to make something similar.

Nope, it’s water base so it sprays really well. Easy to clean up with water also.
I just pour it in the spray gun and go to town with it!
Awesome

3/4 inch premium pine from lowes

id like to be too busy making these to sell lol
What type of CNC router do you use?
Why don't you show how you design it so that NEWBIES can learn. Just showing it being cut out doesn't really show how it was designed to cut.
If you have Vectric Vcarve, that eagle head is in the free clip art that comes with it. Just a matter of putting it where you want it.
Burn it then paint it.
