Are there any plans to celebrate the 1000th Anniversary of the Battle of Assandun on October 18? I know there's not much information on forces in the battle, but I understand it's also a part of English history, particularly Anglo-Saxon, as well.

Such bad luck, beating hardrada at Stamford bridge
would be remembered as a magnificent Saxon victory
had the Normans not landed in southern England shortly after harold defeated the Viking army.
He didn't even have the whole army down in hastings/battle
Soldiers were still arriving even after the battle was lost .
The Saxons were waiting and waiting for the bastard Normans to arrive for weeks , why couldn't the dopey Viking have come weeks earlier or later, why at the same time .
I want a re match , the Normans against the waiting and prepared Saxon army on thd south coast.
    I predict a Saxon victory easily.. ⚔⚔⚒⚒⚔

You forgot to mention that no battlefield artefacts have ever been recovered/dug up from this supposed battlefield site EVER. No arrow heads, chain mail links NOTHING.

So true, a lot of things don't add up, the hill doesn't seem as step as described.

@@Dom-fx4kt Yes you are right, there is no justification for charging an entry fee.

@@robintripp8164 If you interested, look up a guy named Nick Austin(unless you might of heard of this theory already) on the battle of Hastings, for years he's researched and come to the conclusion the real battlefield happened at Crowhurst, there's so much evidence that the battlefield happened there, the landscape matches with everything and makes sense with what is described. There's even the sight of the alleged half constructed, original abbey before it was moved because a church member who came over from France decided it wasn't a good sight.
I visited this sight 10 years ago when doing work experience in the area with my uncle, it definitely has an atmosphere in my opinion and seems to be the real deal.

Oooooohhhhh! There's so much to say on your point and the replies. Where do I start? You're right of course, nowt has been found on the "official " battlefield - the axe mentioned below was found near the mini-roundabout and can't be dated earlier than the 15th Cent. Time Team has dissed this site and Crowhurst ( see below) and Caldbec Hill. That still leaves Kathleen Tyson's site, Beech Farm, Beechwood Down and Netherfield. Add into that mess my preferred site of Ashes Wood and we've got a lot of targets to go for. My site is being investigated by the Forestry Commission so, here's hoping.
