  • Runrig perform An Toll Dubh (translation: The Dungeon) live at Borlum Farm, Drumnadrochit, Loch Ness. This is an excerpt from their Year of the Flood DVD.
    Lyrics:
"It's really important that we keep singing, keep playing, keep performing the Gaelic songs: Here's two for you - an old one and a new one."
Taobh cùil an doruis cha bhi grian
    Suidh aig bòrd
Cha bhi biadh 's cha bhi fìon
Taobh cùil an doruis cha bhi grian
Cha bhi biadh 's cha bhi fìon
Le èiginn ar n-èirigh às ar suain
Le èiginn ar n-èirigh às ar suain
    An Gaidheal 'sa leabaidh
    An Gaidheal 'na shuain
Le èiginn ar n-èirigh às ar suain
    Thàinig e à Sasainn ann
    Thàinig e
Le eachaibh luath is iuchair throm
    Thàinig e à Sasainn ann
Le eachaibh luath is iuchair throm
Le èiginn ar n-èirigh às ar suain
Le èiginn ar n-èirigh às ar suain
    An Gaidheal 'sa leabaidh
Le èiginn ar n-èirigh às ar suain
Air làr 'san toll-dhubh cha bhi grian
    Cha bhi gealach
'S dubh an oidhche chaidleas sinn
Air làr 'san toll-dhubh cha bhi grian
'S dubh an oidhche chaidleas sinn
Le èiginn ar n-eirigh às ar suain
Le èiginn ar n-eirigh às ar suain
    An Gaidheal 'sa leabaidh
Le èiginn ar n-eirigh às ar suain
Le èiginn ar n-eirigh às ar suain
Le èiginn ar n-eirigh às ar suain
    An Gaidheal 'sa leabaidh
Le èiginn ar n-eirigh às ar suain
    English Translation:
On the other side of the door there will be no sun
    Sitting at the table
There will be no food and no wine
On the other side of the door there will be no sun
There will be no food and no wine
It is with difficulty that we will rise from our slumber
It is with difficulty that we will rise from our slumber
The Gael has gone to bed
It is with difficulty that we will rise from our slumber
    He came from the south
    He came
On a fast horse and with a heavy key
    He came from the south
On a fast horse and with a heavy key
It is with difficulty that we will rise from our slumber
It is with difficulty that we will rise from our slumber
The Gael has gone to bed
It is with difficulty that we will rise from our slumber
On the dungeon floor there will be no sun
    There will be no moon
Dark will be the night as we sleep
On the dungeon floor there will be no sun
Dark will be the night as we sleep
It is with difficulty that we will rise from our slumber
It is with difficulty that we will rise from our slumber
The Gael has gone to bed
It is with difficulty that we will rise from our slumber
It is with difficulty that we will rise from our slumber
It is with difficulty that we will rise from our slumber
The Gael has gone to bed
It is with difficulty that we will rise from our slumber

Those who are commenting on the translation. Gaelic is a language that can often be interpreted different ways. "The Black Hole" is literally what "An Toll Dubh" translates to (well, "the hole black" before we apply English grammar). However in the context of this song, it can be interpreted as "The Dungeon". Certainly how the Calum and Rory intended it to be heard anyway!

They played it in Cologne during their Farewell Tour as well. I am trying to learn Gaelic but have failed miserably so far. Yet, I sang along and danced and clapped my hands until they almost fell off. Moran taing, Runrig, for this timeless and amazing piece of music!

Runrig's vocals (and music) are absolutely mystic... whilst the guys are singing in Gaelic. Although I'm an north-european (with no single celtic connection), I adore all Scotch nationalists... Screw Tibet or whatever... free Scotland finally!

Parking really isn't THAT much of an issue at many other venues...don't let it stop you enjoying an awesome experience cause of a bit of mud :D I was there too, and yes, the parking was awful but hey...It's Runrig!

bloody hell absolutely great. 50000 Scots together and no clan wars. You Scots should have done this in 1715/1745 AND THE eNGLISH WOULD NEVER HAVE WON

Great concert, but the company who organised the parking should have been shot! They had absolutely NO idea about the conditions, the clay soil, the damp weather, how to get traffic out of the mud, no back up plans, etc. Would love to meet who ever managed that disaster. I've never been to a Runrig concert since!
