Lyrics:
Comhla rium
A tha thu an drasd
Mo shuilean duinte, mo chuimhne dan
Nam sheasamh a' coimhead
Gach cnoc is gach traigh
Is an siol a dh'fhag thu ann a 'fas
Tha an garradh lan
Le craobhan treun
Le meas a' fas dhuinn ann ri bhuain
Ubhlan abaich
Milis geur
Ach tha aon ubhal nach ruig sinn idir air
Is co 'nar measg
A mhaireas la
Seachad air am is air oidhche fhein
A liuthad uair
A shreap mi suas
Airson an ubhal as airde chur gu beul
Seididh gaoth is dearrsaidh grian
Tro mheas nan craobhan lin gu lin
Ach thig an la is thig an t-am
Airson an ubhal as airde
Air a' chraobh a bhuain
The Highest Apple
At present
All you were is with me
My eyes closed, my memory confident
Standing here watching
Each hill and shoreline
With the seed you left
Still growing
The garden is well stocked
With mighty trees
With fruit growing for the whole world
Ripe, sweet
And bitter apples
And the one apple
That is beyond reach
Who amongst us
Can exist a single day
Beyond our own time and our own limits
Countless and
Futile
Are times I've climbed
To reach and taste
The forbidden fruit
The winds will blow
And the sun will shine
From generation to generation
Through the trees of the garden
But the day and the hour
Will surely come
To take the highest apple
From the knowledge tree

Having this as my mums entrance song on Wednesday for her funeral. Soothing, sad but poignant thinking about life and always reaching for the highest opportunity
I'm so sorry for your loss. I've chosen Going Home as my Christianity is extremely important to me. And my friends don't speak the gaelic.
I'm playing this Mon 8th May 2023 28 years to the day my dad gave his last breath. This was in the charts at the time.
R.I.P. Dad..
Mick. I am playing this now. bit late for May but still a beautiful song. Wow 28 years since Harry passed away. God bless. Nidge

I will always love Runrig! I came to touch with this beautiful language while listening to their songs, I never found a band that did this in such a performance again, thanx so much, 30 years and still no competition
This song is amazing. I remember it from the Carlsberg advert years ago and wrote to the BBC to ask what the song was and who sung it.
Runrig...such melodies and use of their own inspirational language is just awe inspiring. Long live RUNRIG!!!!
Why is this not Scotland's national anthem? Flower of Scotland is no more than a drinking song.
I can imagine Murrayfield singing this, creating a similar atmosphere to Cardiff when Mae Hen Gwlad echoes around the Millennium Stadium. In fact, I'd sing both and I suspect that many Welsh would also join in.
Good point.
hmmm...i wonder if thats why carlsberg used it?...to turn it into a driking song
I'm from Eilean Siar, the Hebrides, and like Rory, Calum, and Donnie (singing here) Gaelic is my mother-tongue. But it's a very difficult language to learn and few Scots can be bothered!😢 That's why!! Judge for yourself: how many comments here are written in Gaelic? QED methinks!
Because, we dont want to forget what occured between nations and nothing stirs like Fl
ower o' Scotland. But that said this is awesome.
I played this at my husband's funeral 25 years ago. We were both huge Runrig fans, I still am.
This touched me. There is a poem by an Indian poet, Rabindranath Tagore. In it he praises the sun for, in my crude words, it shines on both his distant darling and him and therefore connects them. Runrig do that too.
Beautiful and haunting*
gotta love donnie's voice id say he stands equal with freddie murcury or ronnie james dio with his vocal abilities
My favourite Runrig song ,pulls at the heart
This was played as my mum left the church after her funeral today x
Cricket on the beach.... Sunshine and beer...and of course one of the most beautiful thought provoking tracks ever made...Bless you Runrig
Brought to broader public awareness in a Calsberg advert in the 90's, wonderful song.
Guinness.
@@kiskaloo6843 I will take a bet on it? 😉
And it became the first gaelic language song in the charts after it was played during a documentary about the then Prince charles
saw Runrig live demontford hall leicester. best gig i have ever been to. cannot remember what year but possibly early 90's
Il più solenne pezzo di questa grande band , ormai ( oggi ) di questa musica sì è persa la traccia . Bisogna pescare nel passato si vogliamo allietare l' udito .
Runrig were great with bruce guthrie but absolutely amazing with donnie munro on vocals, they were great either on cd or live on stage my fave songs live are loch lomond, skye, pride of the summer an ubhal as airde ,alba, cnoc na feille ,there are so called stars in the charts now who coukd not even compete with runrig so many great songs and happy memories
Many people will disagree with me here but Runrig without that beautiful distinctive melodic voice of Donnie Munro just wasn’t the same without him but what do I know I’m a sassenach 🤷♂️
Be proud of who you are my friend fro Sasainn.
You’re spot on. I’m from Skye and went to all the concerts I could during the early 90s….i was born in 1977. Donnie’s voice is very distinctive and Bruce was good but it wasn’t the same.
I agree with you 100 per cent while bruce did a great job ,donnies vocals, both English and gaelic were always on point either on cd or live in stage, had the honour of seeing them many times live including the loch lomond show wow what a night,
Best band ever!!!
Super schön danke

Absolutely fucking brilliant
He is the best
"None of them have the Gaelic, John.", Torcuil laments. I think this song is beyond explanation it touches parts others fail to.
I don't want to perish like a fading horse.
I'd nevrr hrard of Runrig till I heard this over 20 years ago, I knew it was sad and poignant, but knew nothing of the back story, till I searched it out. It's such a beautiful song. I lonve their music.
Some things should not be allowed to happen. Runrig should not have been allowed to retire. OMG sorely missed. First heard them many years ago on radio Clyde, the Anderson Folio.
How can you not believe in a God when you hear this?
How can you believe in a fictional god when presented with proof of the power of humanity when listening to this?
im trying not to greet, as they were my recently departed cousins fave band. great music, may they continue.
Mòran Taing, Ruaraidh, Calum, agus Donaidh! Runrig gu bràth!!
I’m getting this played at my funeral
Fantastic
R.I.P Bruce

Great song. Terrible video 🤣
Better in Haarlem
Sorry, but an old 4:3 movie transformed to 16:9 are cruel to view.
