Want to play beautiful chord triads? This lesson is for you!
I’m going to show you an easy trick that you can use to harmonize triads together and make them sound insanely beautiful and dreamy.
It’s all about changing one note in the triads to reach more colorful notes and extensions. Very easy to apply!
I did that in my recent Ambient Guitar Song called ‘’10 Years’’ and I’m unveiling that chord triads secret in this lesson today!

I'm 74 and have been playing only power chords in quarter notes for 55 years, thank you for this. I can't stop crying
This is An incredibly important video. When you further explained that we are adding the 7, 11, 9 extensions, wow.
stumbled across your site and I'm well impressed, I'm a self taught guitarist since i was fifteen and I am still learning stuff even now at 56 thanks
Awesome!
This is best got dam triads video I’ve seen yet. I grok it now. Thank you!
Thank you for giving the understanding of how the chord is a 7th, 9th and 11th. Great lesson Antoine.
Nice, thanks! A fun inversion progression to play with is Jim Croce's "Time in a Bottle". Starts with cowboy chord Dm, then each 1/2 measure you drop a fret down on that middle "B" string.
wow, you have the best channel of all youtube. you're helping me become a better guitar player, providing me with happiness, and therefore, a better human being!
I sincerely appreciate that, Chad! Thank you so much :-)
Everytime I watch your chordal lessons, I get improved in my music journey. Thanks friend.
My pleasure!
Beautifull tip so simple yet so efective. Five minutes into the video i had to pause it, record some stuff and get back to it ahah
Awesome, I love to hear that :-)
I didn't know what I did on my guitar thousands of times as a teenage kid wrecked on bong hits would ever be explained 25 years later in an in depth guitar lesson😂... Yes pick through a chord and move a note... if it sounds good keep it in the memory bank then try another combo. When it gets interesting is in trying different base notes over the changed note to really state an emotion.
You where cracking the code and didn't know it 😄😄😄
I did the same thing as a kid stoned out I was doing this same thing! Just didn’t know why it sounded good!
I've found that. It's good to have the knowledge at last as to why it happens and why it sounds good, thanks to great teachers on the Tube.
Bass..good comments! Aloha
Keep smoking weed
I like to fool around with triads like this all the time… it’s fun and sometimes inspires a tune! Great lesson!
Right
I'm an advanced guitar player ... this is one of the BEST guitar tutorials I have ever seen ... if not THE best!!! Thank You!
p.s. I've been doing this for years but didn't realize what I was doing... it's going to sound SOOOO much better now!
@rinkydink. Brutal!
Gorgeous trick. Sometimes you need a great teacher like yourself. Thank you!
Happy to help! :-)
Mike Campbell ( Tom Petty & Heartbreakers) uses a similar Triad but starting in A on Last Dance for Mary Jane!
This is somewhat similar to what I absolutely love in the song ‘Nica Libres at Dusk’ by Ben Howard. Now I know what makes that song so beautiful. Thank you!
Nice harmonies. Interesting and/or pretty chords. Thanks.
This is a lesson that reveals the relationship between “top set” triads to their barre chords, shows how diatonic extensions can add color to those same triads, and THEN adds harmonization. Hard to believe he did it in a few mins? I took those triads with the Oolimo app and was able to map out the voicings across the neck.
So simple! I can almost hear the accompanying lead guitar to The Eagles’ Peaceful Easy Feeling. Don Felder is sooo good at using these melodic triads. Thanks for the quick lesson.
These progressions in the key of E are heavenly sent in terms of color and melody. This lesson has gives me creative insight on mixing and soloing melodies harmonically. This is a lesson to be remembered for all times. Thanks so much!
I dont see how it would be different to the other keys? As long as you play the same mode, the colors and melodies will be identical?
At 4:25 I'm like ahhh that's how Explosions in the Sky do it 😍
Wow, that's such a great lesson, and the little nugget of theory just brought it all together. Thank you!
Flavorful extensions 2nd, 9th & 11th. Thanks.
Beautiful guitar. Every guitarist does this type of stuff.
SWEET
The title of this video is accurate. This is insanely beautiful.
I am just learning my triads along with all the notes on the neck, so I can break out of the 'rhythm guitar player' box. This is brilliant! I can use this to help develop my improvising skills!
What is rhythm guitar players box?
Ty
Very cool thanks for sharing 🙏
I like doing this on pedal steel guitar out of one position, just by moving notes through the pedals and knee levers, one at a time. I also use a lot of delay and reverb to create ambience.
This is exactly what I was looking for. Those Explosions in the Sky sounds
Nice! I also have a full 17 min. lesson on Explosions In The Sky chords, have you seen it? It's here: ua-cam.com/video/HbZwlUTRhf0/v-deo.html
Great teacher beautiful tones
That clean sound has the strange vibe of a pre-announcement jingle in a supermarket before they remind parents they forgot their children somewhere along the way and that k-mart will not assume responsibility for their further upbringing ...
Great teaching, friend. The possibilities to make on chord work all over the neck.
I'm new, working on triads, this was helpful thanks
That guitar certainly sounds insanely beautiful.
This is a gem of a melodic lesson!!! Thank you mate!!! Cheers!!!
My pleasure :-)
Antoine, great little triad lesson, merci! 👍🏽👍🏽
Perfect techniques.. - with reverbs.. its would be extremely cool.. Thank you
You're the best teacher on youtube.
Thank you :-)
Great, that gives nice colours to the music...
First ambient guitar lesson channel I've seen! Subd. Beautiful white Strat! I i used to own one.
Thanks! Welcome aboard, Joseph!
Thank you for your trick
It:s really create beautiful sound 👍🙏
Just stumbled upon your channel. Watched 2 videos and subscribed before the second one finished playing.
Awesome explanation !
Gold. Great information presented by someone who knows how to teach. Thank you!
Thank you Sam, I appreciate that very much!
All of the lessons presented by this a guy are really thoughtful. I will say that I wish the word "trick" wasn't such a ubiquitous way to get a person's attention though. None of these lessons are "tricks", but instead theory and technique discussions and as such are great!
All can be used as tricks without knowing the theory, to create the respective sounding result fast...
@@foljs5858 Fair enough. I certainly thought there was a level of trickery involved in music before I understood the theory. Humbly I submit the word "method" Cheers and thanks for the response
How do you know what triad shape to use in connection with the diatonic note you’re choosing???
Awesome stuff! Gonna use this info..! Thx!
Your tone! 🙌 is so goooood :) Great video my friend
When I was in High school I had piano and harmony classes but I started leaning to play by ear already so 4th 5ths 7ths where Greek to me.To much trouble to get into however I remember playing these chords not all of them.Thank you for bringing some ideas to mind.
I love your way of thinking and teaching!
I appreciate that, thank you :-)
Antoine! Thank you so much for this FREE course. It opened my ears and eyes forever!
My pleasure! I'm glad to read that :-)
Good lesson 😀
Pure genius…
You're a pleasure to learn from Antoine. Merci.
Thank you! 😃
Fantastic lesson! I'm going to get my looper out and work on this concept. Thank you!
This is a family channel.
@@DaveTaste Definitely not the Comedy channel.
great video Antoine !!
Sir, That was a beautiful lesson. Thanks.
Its easy to learn This kind Of vlog about Triad. 😁
Really pretty. I love these triads! Kathy Brandt
Thanks for the inspiration 😁😁☮
My pleasure 😊
Very clever but simple at the same time, thanks for posting and sharing.
My pleasure, Martyn!
What a great lesson. Beautiful sounding cords and great explanation on why it works the way it does. Thank you for this.
Just...thank you!
Very nice! Great lesson for us songwriters!!
Amen and Best Wishes
That was very helpful to see how the E chord could be played in many fret positions. It was also helpful to play the major C scale which is essentially do, ray, me, in the higher registers. Thank you.
Wonderful lesson, many thanks Antoine.
Dude thank you. Lightbulb moment. Just helped me understand triads a lot more!
This is one of the most useful online lessons I've come across. I've been doing something similar in my playing for a few years but I didn't really connect the dots for "how and why" it works, which has limited me a bit. Absolutely pathetic, as it was nothing more than doubling with minor variations, using the notes in the same scale to create texture and tension. If I could go back and do anything differently, it would be learning music theory early on.
Same here..Nice to realise the pattern is transposeable
Thank you. I like playing in open D will try to transfer your lesson. Thanks again.
Would love to have lessons from you!
Very nice trick. 👍.Thanks.
thank you i never thought of this
Wish I had long slender fingers. Gives you so much more variants on the guitar. Thumb over top for bass notes and less fret buzz on those awkward to reach chords for the likes of myself. You can use a capo up the neck to emulate the fortunate, but still the thumb can't, unless its a mandolin I suppose...😃 Nice upload Antoine...Thanks.
Great Lesson thanks
Una vez más, un simple truco que lleva a otro nivel esos acordes, eres mi ídolo Antoine.
Thank you !!!! Awesome lesson and it is great how you show it in the three inversions for the 3 note triad...some very mystical sounds and opens up a whole way of connecting sounds and voicings!!
Very beautiful cord thank you for sharing your video showing
Great video! Only way it could have been better IMO is to have overlays of the chords as you were playing through them. Please keep them coming.
He did have diagrams?
@@MOAB-UT notation of what chords are being played. He had the shapes but not what chords they were.
@@chainsawkarate Not really necessary IMHO. One trick I use is to put a tuner on the headstock. When you play the triad, notice the 3 notes. The root should be in there. Chords are only 3 notes. Root, 3rd 5th (major.) Root, Flat 3rd, 5th (minor.)
@@MOAB-UT the whole point of that was so that we could see how the chord changes when you change one note. For example, moving the third up a half step changes the major chord to a sus. That would be helpful to see. But thanks for your input. Chords can also be more than 3 notes, but I'm sure you knew that.
@@chainsawkarate Gotcha and I agree. It would be helpful. Yes- I meant the main chords. I play a bit of jazz too and those chords can get complex like a C7#5#9. Ironically, I often prefer the simplest of chordal tones. Purple Rain and Prince tunes in general are an exception- sounds great but tricky chords for sure.
I like playing along with backing tracks on YTbe. Most will show the changes in real time and even let you know when it is about to change which is very helpful. Again, I am a simple cat. I can play many complex tunes but find myself chillin to simple things most often. Even single chord vamps can be a lot of fun. Helps you drill down on finding the root note and chord tones in the scale. I've also learned how to play 3 scales over a Major Blues progression and how to play Major and Minor Penta over some Major progressions. All fun stuff!
Have you ever heard of Jamey Arent? He has some really good videos and simple tips that have helped my playing a lot. I also dig on Zombie Guitar- Brian is a great teacher. Who do you like- what are you trying to learn?
In this video, I really like how Jamey shows a super (and again, dead SIMPLE) colorful version of G, C to D. Sounds actually different and much better. Here is that video: ua-cam.com/video/t7xtULjr13g/v-deo.htmlsi=VvnNTzH23xGkUawM&t=340 I feel smarter after watching his videos! And it's free so a double bonus!
Lovely, Mate x
VERY Cool and extremely useful. Thank you very much for posting this Antoine. Great stuff!
My pleasure :-)
Really great transitions and method.
Beautiful 🤩
Excellent 🇫🇷👍🏼🍒
Thanks for sharing this valuable tips Antoine. Keep up. Rams here from Philippines, new subscriber.
Awesome! Welcome aboard :-)
Always great lessons! Much appreciated!!!
My pleasure!
I just looped this- sounded cool. Wasn't sure where to go with it after that- but cool. How do you incorporate this into a broader thing. I suppose, a E major progression- do the same with G# and B chords?
Excellent lesson. I've always related to the neck of my guitar in a physical sense, so I really liked your lesson. Excellent.
Well worth the watch! Lovely sounding chords simply and clearly explained.
Many thanks, Brad :-)
Forget the chords, it's great to use those diatonic notes and extensions like licks in your soloing. Good Luck to All, keep on plunking.
Amazing tutorial.... 😊
Terrific lesson! Thanks
Great stuff. You made it easy to understand. Thank you sir! Peace and Blessings!
Excellent video. 🌻
Awesome video, thanks so much. Best to you man!
Same to you!
Wow, excellent cours Antoine!!! Merci!!!
Tout le plaisir est pour moi!
One of the best videos you’ve done 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks, that means a lot!
Thank you.
Fantastic!
The melody of with or without you by U2 is nice over these chords
