I'd certainly agree! AND I must add that there is a second Bob Ross of guitar UA-cam that I highly recommend--my buddy @EricHaugen got called the Bob Ross of guitar instruction by none other than the Recording Academy on a World Guitar Day article from a few years ago: "Haugen's material is daring and inventive, his channel is warm and inviting, and his teaching approach is relaxed yet empowering - think Bob Ross for guitarists." It's great watching their videos back to back...all we need now are some happy trees and squirrels to start popping up in these videos!!

I can't explain how much Paul's videos have helped my playing. I was years deep down the rabbit hole of shred guitar playing when I discovered this channel. I was floored by how Paul is able to play some of the most basic guitar material and make it sound absolutely gorgeous and perfect. To me, watching this video is beyond impressive. It's forced me to take a step back and remember the two most important aspects of the instrument - playing things that sound good and are tasteful and also buying lots and lots of very expensive guitars.

I am actually "inventing" "new" chords by just moving shapes over the fretboard and trying how and where do they sound right with/without some open strings and it is real fun. Paul is the master who than name them and explain all the theory and give me a new inspiration for which I am very grateful. BTW: fantastic idea of two Pauls each one in other's notebook, respect! :)

    • @xyzyzx1253
      @xyzyzx1253 4 роки тому +5

There are lots and lots of “generalisable” shapes on the guitar,
So long as you know what note is the root note of the 3 you’re playing,
      And you know your intervals,
You can know what chord you’re playing and not just by ear,
Having a sense of major and minor, Sus, dim, and aug chords shapes and which ones I can generalise to other parts of the neck really helped.
So like knowing that you can generalise a shape all the way along the neck,
Knowing it will produce the same chord type all away along the neck,
But the only thing that changes is the notes under your fingers,
      Making it a different chord,
But because your fingers haven’t changed shape,
The intervals that make up the chord are still the same, just the notes that make up the chord is different,

Thank you so much for all the work you put into your videos. As a bass player of 16 years I have tried picking up a 6 string many times over the years and very quickly given up trying to learn chords as my hands would never quite get the hang of different chord shapes and would fatigue surprisingly quickly. After my wife and I had our daughter I desperately wanted to learn to play some songs on acoustic that I can sing to her. After finding your channel and seeing the pure joy and excitement you get even playing simple chord progressions I am glad to say I pushed through the initial wall that has blocked me so many times before and am developing my guitar playing at a rapid rate. So thanks again Paul without your videos and passion for the craft I'm sure I wouldn't be where I am now.

Paul, you are the maestro and more importantly the muse.
Your video channel has done more to elevate my playing more than anyone else on YT or live teachers that I have had.
One possible equal is Justin Guitar, whom I generally view to sharpen my basics or step into a new style, like finger picking.
That said, I don't always follow exactly what he teaches, but with your lessons and demos I always come away with something, even if it is just a new found appreciation for how beautiful and meaningful music can be.
Thank you for the lovely chord shapes and examples of how to make them shine.
PS; I was trying my hardest to NOT buy a classical Nylon string, but all hope for that happening is now gone!
