Brian, I think this is the most important lesson you have ever created. This is the foundation every guitar player needs to start to integrate the fretboard and become a more advanced player.
Most students will not appreciate the magic of this lesson, as it looks simple, and just there on YT for them. We now have access to the greatest music teachers I've seen in decades. I still can't believe such masterpiece courses are available "just like that" on YT. Fantastic lesson.
Absolutely the most important lesson for me and so easy to understand because of Brians amazing kind of teaching! To learn the connection between triads and the pentatonic shapes is pure gold. Yes, it‘s all there, but sometimes you don‘t realize it, until someone like Brian points it out.
I really like the way that this guy teaches. Through his explanation, you can sense an immense body of knowledge, but it is done without ego in a way of someone that remembers and sympathizes with the journeys struggle. I really like how he makes no assumption about your skill level with his explanation. He also provides equivalent examples and analytical parallels to try to make the material contextual. This is very rare and refreshing to see. It's makes learning enjoyable.
Brian, I am sure that you work hard putting together your lessons, but you put across concept's in such a friendly, relaxed manner. Absolutely no ego to get in the way, you are a natural teacher. Thank you
I almost feel like this is the lesson guitar instructors have been hiding from us all along, preventing us from becoming as good as them.. Like seriously, this unlocks so much it almost pisses me off…years of lessons and no one shared this. Their secret is out now, and they’ve all been exposed as frauds. Im coming to active melody from now on for all my lessons. Thanks for the light bulb moment!
For real, I always felt like a lot of teachers are holding out on some secret because I have watched thousands of lessons and I have improved but still not where I want to be. Caged chords, triads, chord tones are the path to melodic playing.
@@MelModica I just like this guy because he shows the road maps. Guys like Tim Pierce are great teachers/players but they never really show you the road map. When I brought this up to Tim Pierce,he actually yelled at me telling me subscribe to his pay lessons. But why would i do that if im not happy with his free ones? Active Melody focuses on road maps thats why i like him so much. I think his name might be Brian, but not sure.
A teacher (not guitar teacher) once told me “Teaching is an ever decreasing circle of lies that winds it’s way slowly to the truth”. I doubt that guitar teachers are deliberately lying to their pupils but it does always surprise me why so much time is spent in the ‘beginner’ years learning first open chords, then struggling with barre chords, only to then be told ‘You don’t need all those notes or to struggle with the barre, just play these 3 strings”. Anyway, so glad Brian is here to bring us to the ‘truth’ :). Been a premium member for years. Best value teaching site available. If you are not already, do it! You won’t regret it.
Best teacher on UA-cam, bar none. Been a subscriber for the 3rd year now, there is just so much material... Even going through the old lessons with new "eyes" gives me so much insight... Take care my friend, Brian!
Brian, you've had many great lessons over the years, but this is one of the best! Please continue this for other shapes and minor chords. This was another example of why I'm a premium member. Thanks!
Thank you Brian! Triads are the foundation for playing. You explain how we set this foundation in such an understandable manner. Your lessons are among the very best on the entire internet! To top it off, you teach as if we are getting the lessons from a caring Brother, Uncle or friend… THANK YOU!
This is absolutely one of the most impactful triad lessons I've had the good fortune to find anywhere 🥇❗🎯❗👌🏽👌🏼👍🏽👍🏼❗ Thank you Brian; and YES I would appreciate more lessons on this subject; a triad series on the minor keys, the diminished chord shapes and the triad shapes, in one neighborhood, that complete the "C" major & "C" minor scales 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽✔
Fantastic! Caught on right away. Other "teachers" should watch this instead of trying to confuse us with complicated study templates that only make us want to give up and toss the guitar in the trash. Really appreciate this video. Thanks a bunch.
I wish that someone had given me this lesson 50 years ago when I was in high school first learning to play guitar. Thanks for doing this very nice lesson!
Hello Brian.. I just want to say congratulations and great job on teaching this insightful lesson. I have seen many lessons but none of them seem to spell it out the way you just did. Most videos appear to be hiding something!! Thanks again for not holding back and truly demonstrating the road map to success..
Omg yes on the minor lesson..funny how u take information i sort of know and learned, and then put it all together in context to help it make sense...well done, ty again and again
Honestly one of the best lessons I’ve ever seen ! This is the type of lesson that will help people become musicians; understand and develop skills, and improve in every area of the guitar 🎸. You are truly a blessing to guitar students.
These Triads lessons have been an eye opener for me. Like many people I know the chords on the low strings E,A and D. You just opened up so much more for me showing these triad chords and positions. I like that you keep reminding everyone how they are related to the caged system. I really think you are on to something here. I would continue to cover all the functionality of the triads and how they are used in relation to the caged system. Just knowing the caged system doesn’t really help anybody if they don’t know what to do with it. Same with the modes. You can learn them but if you don’t understand or have useful knowledge of how to use them they are useless. Thank you very much for the knowledge, you are a great guitar teacher.
I started watching your videos earlier this week. I've been playing guitar for many years and hit a hurdle with advancing to the "Next Level" . So far I've only seen 2 of your videos and I gotta say you are the Best Instructor I've came across on UA-cam. Your guitar lessons explains what I've been trying to "Figure Out" for years. Big Thanks and keep the videos coming.
Brian, I know the Timestamps are more work for you, but they really are a valuable addition! Thanks and this Lesson is a 'Gold mine' , of musical ideas!
You're easily one of the best guitar teachers on YT, Brian. It's obvious you really think these lessons through. You don't waste people's time; you just offer a ton of value. Thank you!
You use the word "overwhelming" near the end and that is exactly how I've felt about triads for some time, but this lesson puts an end to that notion. Incredibly valuable lesson here that packs a lot of gain for small investment. Thank you so much for this one.
Excellent🤩. Superbly integrated from introduction to improvisation. There's never been such a detail and yet easy to digest lesson on triad. Thank you so much...🤝👍👍👍🙂
Just wanted to reiterate what others of said here that this is hands down a GREAT lesson! Especially for those that know some CAGED method but were having some trouble putting it all together and seeing the triads within the shapes. I've probably watched it 10 times now and will watch another 10 to make sure it sinks is. Thank you Brain!
I have just started playing again after a decades long break, trying to get my fingers back! Very grateful to have Found "Active Melody". I'm rededicating myself back to my favorite thing, Music. Oh, how I've missed it
Since I discovered the lower triads, I’ve expanded my playing a lot. This video has expanded my understanding a lot. The 6, 7, and 9th variations are all new to me. Very good lesson - thanks. I am very interested in the minor triads. I have the upper triads on them, but you add so much more information that would be great.
Hands down the best explanation and demonstration of triads I've seen. I've watched several which have all been good, but this one just gets to the heart of it so well and so quickly! Thank you so much!
Brian, I've been a premium member for several years now. Brilliant lessons like this is why I will continue! Thank you, you are a genius! And a definite YES to a similar lesson on minor chords.
This is another great lesson from you Brian. Please continue with more Triads, including the minor triads. In the past few moths I’ve learned the importance of triads, which I had never considered before. Your lessons have played a big part in awakening me to this knowledge. Thank you Brian!
Brian, this lesson was amazing! Learning to group triads and pentatonics in three positions in a blues progression in itself is massive. Whats more, there was second level learning here about how to "blues up" triads with sliding into them, using double stops, bends , getting that bluesly triplet rythm going on and adding in 6ths, 7ths and 9ths in each 'neighbourhood.' Wow! My blues improvisation just went up a giant step!
Brian, this was such a good lesson in unlocking all the relationships along the fingerboard, enabling an endless array of improvisations. Thank you for all your lessons, much appreciated.
I'll agree with other commenters. One of the best lessons I've ever seen! Thank you! And yes please, I would like a minor triad lesson as well if you would be so kind.
your a true Blessing to us all! thank you for all that you due! keep up the good and brilliant work! your making a difference to thousands and thousands of lives! again! thank you!
I'm totally overwhelmed by your style of teaching, explaining tough spots but most of all i love your feeling of music. I am great fan of your blues lessons.
I have a monthly subscription on your website. I have other subscriptions on other websites but yours is by far the best. I can't express enough how happy I am that I have subscribed for your lessons, I have learned in one week more than 10 years of blindly noodling.

Wow , way to put it all together. I’ve been a member for about 1.5 years and Brian has taken my guitar to a whole new level. Get the membership it costs one lesson and is so worth it.
This is amazing. Tomo fujita introduced me to the upper triads and I could connect them with the pentatonic shapes on my own and now this is a cherry on top. Thanks man. Lot of love.

This is great. In front of my eyes and ears for years, yet I could not see it .... until now. Thank you very much , you perfected the art of doing the most out of those little triads.
Brilliant lesson; I’ve been flitting around with these shapes, but never tied it all together. I think you’ve cracked open a whole new continent of exploration. Thank you!
This blew my mind- great stuff - I know all the triads on all 6 strings major/minor- but the added stuff you provided just blew me away. Thanks so much.
Fantastic lesson Brian, as I mentioned before I like getting to grips with triads and this lesson just pulls it all together. You must have been reading my mind. Thanks again Brian you never fail to brighten my day!
You’re a really great teacher. So glad I found you. Please continue with various triad lessons 🎉 I know some of this but you built upon it and explain things very well
Hands down, one of the best, if not, the best teacher on the internet. Everything he teaches is an immediately applicable tool.
I agree!
Brian, I think this is the most important lesson you have ever created. This is the foundation every guitar player needs to start to integrate the fretboard and become a more advanced player.
Nice comment, I am def going to check this one out. It's already starting out good with the "forget the top 2 strings" as a Ukulele player here lol.
My thoughts exactly I've been looking for this for years...
