The development of the MP 40 began in the late 1930s as an improvement over its predecessor, the MP 38. German engineer Heinrich Vollmer designed it to be a more cost-effective and simplified version of the MP 38.
Introduced in 1940, the MP 40 quickly became the standard submachine gun for the German military. Its relatively cheap and easy-to-manufacture stamped steel construction made it suitable for mass production.
The MP 40 featured a distinctive appearance with a folding metal stock, making it compact and easy to carry. Operating on the blowback principle and chambered for the 9mm Parabellum cartridge, it had a magazine capacity of 32 rounds and a cyclic rate of fire around 500-550 rounds per minute.
Widely used among German infantry, paratroopers, and various military units during World War II, the MP 40 gained popularity due to its design and reliability, becoming a symbol of German infantry weaponry.
After the war, the MP 40 remained in service with various armies worldwide and influenced the design of subsequent submachine guns. Its compact design and folding stock served as inspiration for many firearms.
The MP 40 is not without limitations; it was not as accurate as some other contemporary submachine guns, and its open-bolt design made it prone to dirt and debris, affecting its reliability in certain conditions. Nevertheless, it remains a significant piece of military history, symbolizing the tumultuous period of World War II and leaving a lasting impact on popular culture. - Розваги

Thanks man! Merry Christmas!

My quick internet search told me it cost the Germans $24 in American dollars to make an MP40 back in 1942. That's about $450 in today's dollars. Keep in mind this figure is being translated multiple times between currencies and time periods but that should be solidly in the ballpark.
What a deal
A very affordable weapon, not as cheap as the sten but much more affordable than the Thompson.
@@johnandrewserranogarcia7223 But the Sten is a ergonomic nightmare.
Thompson M1928 back in the day is cost $200 a pieces. And the Ford Model T coupe is cost $400. So the price of two Thompson M1928 could used to buy a car. In WW2 the price of the M1A1 Thompson is cost $45. Still expensive so why the M1A1 Thompson only issued to squad leader. But the Thompson have a great durability can stay in a long fight without overheating and have great fire power. And the reliability of the Thompson is not better than the Owen Mk I if the gun is dirty or in frost. But it still work but just cannot work flawlessly. If MP40 get dirty and frost the whole things will not working. But the MP40 is at least have better quality than the $15 M3A1. The Sten Mk II is totally a garbage(Easy malfunction, not reliable, not durable, high accidental discharge problem & bad accuracy). So if you want to say the best SMG in WW2 it would be the Owen Mk I, M1A1 Thompson, Beretta M38A & PPS-43. The MP34, MP40, M3A1, PPSh-41 is just ordinary(Not the very best, But isn't bad) nothing special. The Sten Mk II, Type 100 Nambu & PPD-40 is totally a worst garbage.

MP-40 with the suppressor in Call of Duty World at War was my go-to sweaty gun. 🗿
I have a Finnish m39 and an American no.4 mk1*
I get a lot of love from them, owning history makes alot of people very happy
Keep your small arms, at one time there was a young man holding it like his life depended on it, it was someone’s entire world
Treat them with respect
Here, here!
I also have a savage enfield. Mines a sporter, so I got it for $350. I'm trying to get the original stock on it, but some of the small parts are hard to find
@@Sube-Tube Australia (my country) never used the no.4 widely as far as I’m aware it was mostly the mk3. However the rifle was widely popular here post war. After the gun buyback in the 90’s happened a lot of people rendered them inert so as to keep the history but not get arrested. You could possibly find an inert rifle being sold to cannibalise the stock
There’s also quite an industry here for restoring Enfield rifles, have a look for Australian gunsmiths that do that and you may be able to get a replica stock made up for you
Bear in mind that anything firearm related is expensive here, my no.4 is in quite good condition but it cost me $1000 aud. You might be looking at an expensive bit of kit
I loved the shots around the 19 minute mark, you could really nicely see the recoil!
The history story of this MP-40 is really special, I love the fact that there was an actual pic of the man that acquired it back then!! My Pappy , Jack O Smith was at the invasion of Monte Casino in Italy , I have several pics of him, his mess kit , a few medals , and the letters he send to my back to my Granny while he was there, and I even have the flag that was draped over his coffin(with full honors) from when he passed in 1995, WW2 history has and always will have a special place in my heart, and to have pieces of history from that time period is part of my family's history. Thank you for sharing this
44 Dot, the best camo ever worn on the battlefield
I like the Fallschirmjager camo better but to each his' own
@@patgray5402Splinter pattern has its uses but the dot patterns seem more diverse and are more used today
I'm more of a Blurred Edge fan myself
@@patgray5402well it looks cooler from a fashion pov but dot camp is actually MUCH more usefull there’s a reason why every modern camo that has come out in the last 10-20 Years is some sort of dot camo. @@Jack-yj2qrnah it’s just more paper work and you gotta make sure if it’s an Ak for example, that you weld it to make it non operable, buddies were taking shit home all the time
Don't get caught. I know someone who found a BAR receiver that was shipped from Iraq. American soldier sent it home with the intent to "make a lamp" from it. Sadly, he died over there, and the family had it at a garage sale, not knowing what it was. From what I heard, the guy bought a parts kit and put it together. This was early 2000s.
Truly unique sound of this smg.
Outstanding video and presentation.

There is just something so satisfying about the slow fire rate just thumping away, by far my favorite SMG

@@454FatJack i haven't the slightest clue of what you just said....😐
one of my favourite gun sounds, up there with the grease gun and [insert whatever shotgun you like here]
The Germans used a 124 gr bullet during WW2. If ya use a lighter gr bullet it should speed up the rate of fire!😊
>put a suppressor on the mp40
>setup your home alarm system to play Erika with battle sounds
>learn German
>sleep in full SS dress.
>When someone breaks in start screaming at them in German while running towards them.
if the LARP doesn’t cause a heart attack then the MP40 will.
Just gotta say that German camouflage is really effective. You blended in quite well into the background vegetation. I've played WWII themed airsoft matches and the Germans are typically somewhat hard to see at long ranges, they just blend in. They were all using Heer splinter camouflage thought, not Dot
He has a Splinter camo Zeltbahn quarter on his back.
Maybe because he's not wearing heer uniform but those ss guys uniform. Well atleast one of their uniforms since they had alot of different clothing.
yes, great cammo for sure!
Hands down the most visually appealing video you have done so far
This is certainly my most desired submachine gun of WW2, and if they didn't cost upwards of $20,000 for a full auto one I probably WOULD have one. Beautiful piece of German engineering right there!
There are a few modern semi automatic reproductions you can get in the US and Europe.
You can always just get a semi auto one and become a gunsmith and convert it into a non transferable machine gun.
@@graysid9769 That's true as well.
I may have bought a machine gun if I didn't drop $18k on a new bike.
@bobjohnson1633 I'd have probably went with an MG but what kind of bike did you get if you don't mind me asking
Amazing how you could bring back full auto weapons even when the NFA existed. Really makes ya think.
Back when more people understood the tools weren't the problem and the government wasn't as outright corrupt.
1968👎🏻
Isn’t it crazy that the government banned alcohol, leading to gun violence, so they banned a whole bunch of guns, instead of ending the violence (and they poisoned people to ‘enforce’ the alcohol ban).
lol na ww2 was before nfa

Great video as always! I would love to have one for my collection looks like a riot to play with for sure
I had a chance to buy one of these from a class 3 dealer. Back in 1990 when Clinton was getting into the White House. Had my pick of the MP 44, MP 40 or a Tommy gun all priced at $1850. I could have bought a MG42 for $ 4000 bucks. Man how things have changed? Still a lot of money back then.
Now let's see the pack-a-punched version

The MP40 looks cool. But the sleeper hit submachine gun of that war was the Berretta 38A
I would say the Suomi KP/-31
Thompson M1928a1 was best in the hands of a skilled operator. As a general issue smg the Baretta 38a probably marginally better than KP31

I thought that the PPSH would do terrible at range, but on reflection, it makes sense with its cartridge.
A true classic gun and definitely a fun one to shoot. The MP40 is about a pound lighter than the MP38 but the weight contributes to the controllability of the gun. FYI--the threaded barrel was for the blank firing adaptor.

13:30 LOL! Love that picture of the G.I. Litteral loot drop picker.
yet another great video! guntube has really stepped up its game this last year
Pre and early war German doctrine placed the MP38/40 more as a vehicle crew weapon. The little protector and lug under the barrel was for vehicle crews to rest the gun against the side of their vehicle to stop the short barrel from sliding back during firing and slip inside (nothing like a burst of 9mm inside an armoured vehicle).
Same with the Thompson. Originally only issued to armoured cavalry in the US army
