funny enough i found out the real name of the STG44 from that episode
at the time i played a bunch of COD 3 and love the mp44 and the germen paratrooper rifle

RIP to Richard "Mack" Machowicz and R Lee Ermy, you two are truly missed.
I didn't know about Mac dying. But it's sad they both have been lost.
Mail Call was the OG military show, not only firearms but great overall. Future Weapons always made laugh because of the hosts voice overs 😆
Hahaha…admin….buddy…no one forgot about “sons of guns” we just don’t talk about it

I met R Lee Ermy when I was a teen. I was tall and super awkward at a gun show with my dad just perusing and we saw him set up at a booth there. My dad told him I was a huge fan of mail call and asked if he would take a pic with me. He smiled, said sure, and stood next to me. I was struck by how small he was, but right before my dad snapped the shot he turned and grabbed me around my neck with both hands. I was frozen not knowing what to do, somewhere my dad has a pic of me being gently throttled by one of my childhood heros. Miss that old guy, Semper Fi Gunny o7

I also met him at agun show when i was young, i dont' have quite as cool of a story. i got to briefly shake his hand but still a very cool moment. It was at knob creek gun range, very busy guy there as i'm sure you could guess lol
I always go back to History channel's Tales of the Gun: "The Gun has played a critical role in history. An invention which has been praised and denounced... Served Hero and Villian alike... and carries with it moral responsibility. To understand the gun is to better understand history."
YES!! They did a whole episode on Mauser, The Luger and so many more!
That was my jam!! Miss that show..
They had every episode along with PBS American experience on you tube .Somebody was kind enough to upload the entire series. That was around 2015-2016 and then you tube took it down.

Priceless piece of history my friend
Honestly R Lee Ermey had two great shows mail call and another "Locked and Loaded". Goodness I miss that man, god speed Gunny.
Locked and loaded was goated in the sauce, as the youngsters say.
Mail Call was like having Gunny as a school teacher. The Fat Electrician and Habitual LineCrosser are some of my other favorite teachers. I had another teacher who was cool, but mysterious. He always wore a balaclava. Anyway, one day he didn't show up and I heard he got schwacked by some good lookin stud who doesn't skip leg day. Weird, innit?

Love you, Admin!

He had 3 great shows.
On the outdoor channel he had a great show called Gunny Time with R Lee Ermy, that show was great.
Sadly he died, but they did try to keep it going for another season with various guest hosts like Adam Baldwin and Clifton Collins JR.
@@TylerSnyder305 honestly only thing I ever watched on the Outdoor channel was the Ted Nugent hunting channel

combat missions deserved a second season, but i see how GWOT probably took all the perspective cast away.
I watched top shot with my dad religiously. I was 11 when I started watching it. Good memories
I miss Top Shot. I love the fact that Dustin Ellerman is still giving us content.
Top Shot! I still watch Dustin here on the tubes, haha
Top shot FUCKEDDDD
Mail Call was so fun as a kid. R Lee Ermey shitting on the AK guy the whole time during the AK vs M16 episode is a classic.
Interesting fun fact, Aryeh Nusbacher, who was on nearly every non-reality history channel show in the mid-2000s is now Lynette, and still makes appearances on some of their shows. I was like, wow that guy must have a sister that's also a historian and featured on the history channel a lot, what are the odds. ....Oh.
You had that moment too?
I mean, looking back he was fairly feminine then too. I saw him and was like "wait.. no, no that makes sense" lol

Gunsmoke and that one military restoration one was da bomb.
I met will from sons of guns. He then went to jail for being a kiddy diddler- my local LGS has a red jacket, and has had it for years. Nobody wants it because of his name on it
Dang #4 is kind of disturbing.
That show was called American guns, the shop was called Gunsmoke.
And now Garand Thumb has basically turned into the modern version of Future Weapons. Except he knows what he's talking about
Used to FPS Russia. I still remember him showing off the quad copter drones that were later in call of duty games. Also bul-pups before they got huge. And he’s the reason dragon’s breath shotgun ammo is in John Wick 4
I was always into Mail Call way more than Lock N Load, I’d watch it anytime it was on. I actually got to meet R. Lee Ermey at a the Show of Shows in Louisville. He gave me a Mail Call challenge coin (he showed me how to do the handshake when presenting it) and autographed my copy of Mail Call: SNAFU.
American Guns was filmed in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, about twenty minutes from where I grew up. The guy lost his FFL and continued selling guns back door through other FFL’s in the area and he took down a few other gun stores in the area
I talked to a guy that worked on the American Guns show and he said Wyatt would rent the helicopter to go see a customer 30 mins away so he would look like a big shot. He said the whole cast was a pain in the ass to deal with.
Tales of the gun was the best show I ever watched as a kid.
Yup, I love the one of Ruzzia.
Hell yeah, love that one.
The Smith & Wesson episode rules.
Top Shot 2010 also was a good one
Yesss, when the history channel actually taught history....
A guy I worked with in LE, retired USMC, told me a story about how he got to drive the Gunny around 29 Palms for a day while he was there working on an episode of L&L. Said he swore like a true Marine and loved whiskey.
I was home on leave and bought an ak, which I had to leave with my mom when I went back over. We watched a couple episodes of Gunsmoke and after I left she sent me an email about jokingly sending my gun to them since the premise of the show was they somehow fuck up a customers order for dramatic effect and then the episode is solving the issue. I appreciate you bringing up the memory.
"Mail Call" on the History Channel is what got me into firearms.
RIP R. Lee Ermey
The cliff Sons of Guns fell off was wild as shit.
I think it was the second season that ended on a cliff hanger, with a bunch of his people leaving, and I was excited to see what happened in season 3, and then BAM. News came out. His OWN DAUGHTER? Holy smokes.

Future weapons was the reason I bought an LWRC m6a2 when I turned 18 😅
Sons of Guns tried to capitalize on American Chopper's prestige and formula. It didn't really work that well in the long run
American Guns had one cool thing going for it that the son was an engraver, and he did some really nice work there.
Wild West Alaska was another of the shows from around that time, but it was pretty much the same show as American Guns minus the legal problems, but set in Alaska.

I asked R. Lee Ermey if ACOGs would get me laid. Saddest moment of my 10th year on earth.
Damn 10 year old me needed this information then 😢
I remember all of these shows. "Tales of the Gun" is a big reason I like the guns I do to this day, as well as a reason I majored in History in college.
Watched the military channel all the time as a child child with my grandfather, I always loved commercial breaks when my grandfather would drop details on his service and geopolitical details that weren’t ment to be shared with any civilian let alone my adolescent self.
I LOVED Battle 360 and Patton 360 in the late 00's/early 2010's. Really enjoyed the presentation, narration and it's showing of related history surrounding the main topics like the famed USS Enterprise and of course "Old Blood and Guts" himself. Great video! Top Tens was so fun at the time too.
Weaponology was good too
God I miss early to mid 2000’s History Channel. Between Mail Call and Modern Marvels I learned so much and gained so many awesome memories with my old man.

Fun Fact. Chris Costa was in one of the episodes of future weapons. The one that featured the Magpul Masada.
I remember the Thompson episode of sons of guns. I was too young at the time to realize how absolutely horrifying and sacrilegious it was when they messed with that Thompson.
Iirc, fortunately, it wasn't a vintage Thompson but a modern semi-auto Auto Ordnance that they converted to full-auto tacticool SMG.

Absolutely top notch show.
Oooooooh boy. Lock n Load with good ole R. Lee Ermey. I was a huge nerd for his older Mail Call show. My story about Gunny is that he filmed one of the Lock and Load episodes at a range my folks used to go to. It was for the sniper rifles episode. If you remember the scene where he shoots the 55 gallon drums with the .50 cal, then that's the range. Spent most of the day out there. He talked with my parents while the show breaked for lunch. I was standing with all the other tag-alongs at the range tower when he shot the exploding barrels. They were about 100 yards off, but I could still feel the heat from the fireball wash over us! Let me tell ya, for a little tyke going gaga over all things military, that made my entire summer! I do remember that after the filming was over, Gunny stayed up in the tower and all us little fan boys and girls got him to sign the .50 cal brass. The old timer ripped off at least two dozen of them during the humid Nebraska summer, but he still had the patience for all of us! When it came my turn to get the signed brass I could barely talk with the man, I was so nervous! Still one of my best memories of my childhood, I got to meet one of my heroes and he definitely lived up to it!
What a trip down memory lane...
I was heartbroken when the Gunny passed, but damn, I had no idea that Mac had passed from Brain Cancer! I loved Future Weapons as I was growing up, and I remember him being on Deadliest Warrior. At least he's not suffering anymore.
I miss this era of tv so much. I remember these shows picking up pretty quickly starting in 2004 when I was 11. Along with OG Mythbusters, this was the greatest tv era for guns and explosions.
you should grow a kaiser Wilhelm mustache, it would be a vibe, have fun getting over the cold.
Joe from "Sons of Guns" bought a firearm from my store awhile back. I did the final check and recognized the address, so I couldn't help but mention the show and what happened to Will Hayden. I'd seen some of the show but never really paid much attention, so I was unaware that he'd had a prominent role in Red Jacket, before buying out the company and changing its name after the fallout.
When that show was filming, I really wanted to like it. My neighbor told me about it, and I was an Army Recruiter working out of a mall a mile or so away from the business. I looked up the address and drove by one day but couldn't find anything. No signage, no indication that Red Jacket existed. Month later, I drove back by, and they were obviously filming, with full signage, that dumb looking truck, and a parking lot full of cars and production vehicles.
Something about the show just seemed off. First, you had Will Hayden, the now-convicted chomo serving the rest of his life at Angola. It seemed like every episode he'd bring up his time in the Marines, and the "first of its kind" build they were doing for the episode. The M1919 was laughable, as it was the "first time" an M1919 was built as a shoulder-fired weapon (never mind the WWII-era M1919A6). I'm a gun guy who spent 21 years as an Army Infantryman, and I'll be the first to tell you that military or police service do not equate to weapons knowledge. There are 18Bs (Special Forces Weapons Sergeants) that no less about the history and function of small arms than the average GunTuber.
Then you had all the fake drama, pointless deadlines, and such. I recall one episode where a "customer" walked in off the street and was berated for daring to think they did over-the-counter sales. To his credit, Joe, who now runs Aklys Defense in the same building where Red Jacket operated, seems pretty cool. They design and manufacture their own silencers, among other products, and he told us to stop by anytime to check out the facility.
Im only 28, and R Lee Ermy's Mailcall intro is burned into my brain. Much simpler times gentlemen, much simpler times.
Restoring an 86 Suburban (just did the timing on the 350!) and had to replace the barn door limiting straps. Couldn't find any aftermarket ones and had to replace the driver's seat belt anyway. My mom was able to help sew the old belt into new straps with different slots for different angles of opening. We even made the old seat belt safety label front and center on the left strap to proudly show it was repurposed. Easily my favorite part of the rebuild! This video brought back good memories. Love the new content!!
So, Joe Meaux is actually still extremely active in the firearms industry and making some cool stuff over at Akly's Defense. I've got one of his Falcata Heavy AR-10s and I love it.
I watched Future Weapons on Discovery and with the DVD Netflix, I remember being so stoked to check the mail after school and seeing that red envelope

Hey, that’s really cool man! My first was a Kar98k made in 1944 in Oberndorf, Germany. It was used on the eastern front where it was captured by the Soviets, and eventually imported by CAI. I still have that rifle. Never going to get rid of it
@@ashe1.070 Same with me, I'll sell everything else I have before my K98.
I have no clue where it was used, aside from Europe lol. The stock was pretty beat up when I got it though.
@@c2099 Its kind of difficult to find any info on a rifle unless you have some paperwork that came with it unfortunately. I only know what I know about mine because of the factory code (byf), and Russian capture mark (an "X") stamped on the action.
The stock on mine isn't in the greatest of shape either, but the action, bolt, barrel, etc. are all in decent shape. So, that's all that matters for a historical artifact in my opinion. I think of the minor damage to the stock as being indicative of its history though, so it's not something I'd ever change personally. But, I guess it depends on how bad the damage is.

Miss him greatly as he was an amazing figure.
I met Will Hayden after staying the night on the U.S.S. Kidd (a boy scout outing) when my friend, his dad, and I went to the Red Jacket shop on our way home. Eerily I remember him saying he had to go cause he was watching after a young girl and they were gonna watch HBO (can’t remember if they were related due to it being over a decade ago) but after it all came out he was a diddler I was just dumbfounded. That’s when I understood how people like serial killers can go unnoticed and appear completely normal.

I loved all of these shows. Special Ops Mission was a great but short lived show, Deadliest Warrior was another good one.
I went to a rifle building class put on by Flem from Red Jacket. He hated the show. During the class, the lower receivers were out of spec so he replaced them with Red Jacket lowers that had been repossessed after the show ended.
