Hey Ashley & Dave ✨ Good Morning to you on this bright sunny day in the UK 'Gravitating towards and expanding the bubble' , a superb analogy......during my early discovery of music I tended to gravitate towards the sounds of my peer group. Looking back most were a good choice, some not so, but you have to go and explore. It would be down to a catchy sound, a chorus that was easy to remember, sometimes the lyrics were not the priority, or the story behind them, but of course the genre was. The Brit Pop era was one I enjoyed, although I am not and never will be a Blur fan.....better still was Grunge with Nirvana that expanded to Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Temple of the Dog, Stone Temple Pilots.......listening to the bands who were their inspiration 'expanded' my listening to The Melvins ( who I saw live a few years ago), Mudhoney, Mother Love Bone, Green River, Mad season etc....another music expansion had me going to see Soundgardens's Kim Thayil playing with Wayne Kramer's reformed MC5 in 2018. A long time ago I really liked an all girl pop band, their harmonies were excellent, I took my sister to see them on the condition she never told my mates, as I wouldn't hear the last of it. The expansion of music on the internet combined with access to song lyrics, has opened up a whole new world, I now search for the lyrics while looking for a story behind a song, something I hardly did in the past. Discovering the SLB YT channel has been so eye-opening, I cannot thank you enough for expanding my bubble even further, you guys have the credit for a lot of the music I now listen to and the huge pile of cd's and vinyl badly in need of a storage case to put them in 😂😂, my SLB cd's included. Along with your excellent original music and the #SundayShoutOut archives, there exists an endless Emporium of art to dive in and explore, so I advise people to go search every corner for these gems that are there for us to enjoy, courtesy of your dedication to your art. This REALLY moves us, as one of Dave's core beliefs is that as musicians its our job to not only present but instruct and inform, not in a deliberate way but in a presentation that opens people up to new music and sounds they might not have heard or even ordinarily stray away from.
Go Lou!!!! Love the sound of your acoustic. Missed the lead, but the live intro lead to Sweet Jane is pretty damn amazing. Be safe out on tour and have a blast.
It is really a cool intro and basing our version we did a meld of the Cowboy Junkies cover and of course Lou Reed. I prefer his feel but did borrow some arranging from them for the bridge part...Dave was salivating over the lead, but alas we decided to tackle a simpler acoustic version :)....thanks as always for hanging with us!
I think so took, if only in their uniqueness pushing the envelope. Maybe not 100% my cup of tea sometimes but definitely respectable as a great rock act.
I was on tour with Dick Wagner, and he and Steve Hunter were the two guitar players responsible for the opening guitar riffs. This makes me smile! "I LUH YEW, band"!!!
"Jane Says" seems to me to have been inspired by this song's story/music as an extension or homage? IDK, I was into the psyche of Velvet Underground/Lou Reed's thing since I was a kid! (I recently tossed some of "Heroin" into a cover of G&R's "Patience" thinking they had also been influenced!)
Thanks to SLB, my Sunday is off to a wonderful start. Was pleased to here your discussion about which songs you like. Dave leaning towards the music and Ashley leaning towards the lyrics. I try to remain open to all types of music. I'm about 60/40 with 60 being instrumentals and 40 being music with lyrics that tell a story🙂 The songs and artists that promote violence are the only ones that turn me off.
Thats interesting, I think most people would strongly favor the lyrical side....I've even heard that Zappa wanted to be perform mostly instrumental but he couldn't get taken seriously or gain traction so against his own desires started writing lyrics and probably why they are mostly off the wall....Ha!
Lou Reed was definitely one of a kind. (one of my high school heroes....dating myself...because nobody else will....lol) Have you ever thought of putting together a CD of your covers? (Maybe too many legal hassles?)
Thank you for shouting out to my Missus...
Joe needs to bring you here sometime and just visit and chill with us here in the gardens. Love on him when he returns home to ya. We appreciate him.
@@stevemurray6543 I'm totally looking forward to seeing you again my brother

I toured with Dick Wagner, he and Steve Hunter are responsible for that great open.

Probably will need to listen to that again now, It kinda makes sense that way in my head.

I love this song. Very well done
Mozart may have been the original Rockstar ‼️
quite possible...
Lou Reed was definitely one of a kind. (one of my high school heroes....dating myself...because nobody else will....lol) Have you ever thought of putting together a CD of your covers? (Maybe too many legal hassles?)
We have considered doing an acoustic covers album....saying its in the works may be a little ahead of game, but its is being considered.
Great job!! 🙂
Thank you! 😁
