I think this has to be up there as one of my favourite Mastodon songs. This album for me was similar to Opeth's newer work, didn't grab at first but after repeated listens I've grown to absolutely love it and appreciate what it's about. So much texture & depth and always something new to take away from another listen 🔥

There is definitely something special about this track. Was telling my wife that Oblivion was such a particular part in my life, I'm sometimes sad I can't hear it again for the first time. This album, and this song especially, brings so much force with it. It gives me goosebumps. I went and listened to Blood and Thunder, and it was like seeing someone grow from youth into maturity. Just that first chorus break - WITHOUT A HEARTBEAT, THE DREAM IS DEAD - ALL THAT I HAVE SACRIFICED IS LEAVING ME, AND LETTING GO, NOW Just over and over, it's colossal. Bands spend their whole careers trying to make something that sounds like this.

I think Brann Dailor deserves the presidential seal for his vocals. You can clearly hear how much they have all worked on their voices over the years, especially live performances
To state this song is a "power ballad" is the understatement of a lifetime. This is that song for the one person...that soulmate that you never ended up with...that haunts your every breathing moment...that you long for in your dreams, but know you have to let go. The opening notes tear at your heart. The lyrics crush every fiber of your being. In the 49 years I have been alive, not once, has a song ever literally tore me apart to the deepest recesses of my core...and healed the same core of a longing never to be realized.

Every mastodon album is a masterpiece equivalent to the ambient subconscious of a mastodon thawing from a frozen state to the point of almost melting back to life to then be frozen and be taken on an excursion of timelessness over and and over again, thousands of years apart. But this track in particular is one of the best ones I have heard from Mastodon (or any other band) period.
