"I only know leaving you was the hardest thing, to cut and run" It always gets to me everytime and sends a spear though my heart.

the mark of a good band is being able to musically progress and change. I know a lot of fans of lots of bands get bent out of shape because their band doesn't sound the same as it used to. in flames, opeth, even guns n roses. lots of band progress musically, and that's the mark of real musicians is being able to grow that sound. recently, Iron maiden did this for the 1st time in a couple decades. waited 22 hours for this, and then an extra 5 minutes on top of that. so. thank you
Some people like to call a step back progress. If they move into an area i don't enjoy i no longer follow. This is probably one of the only Mas tracks I've heard in a very long time that i am just not enjoying.
Yep. Totally agree. But there is definitely degenerative aspects. Not to mastodon i would say but Lamb of god for example, one could argue metalica as well. Mastodons musicianship has grown, evolved matured even. while the other two examples devolved and became less.
i absolutely see it as a step back and not a step forward. when you subtract technicality and heaviness for catchy choruses and accessibility to a larger audience, that is a step back... imo

@@frenchtoast2319 blabla
Has to be one of the best written songs I've ever heard
So many riffs and the varied timbre of their voices make for amazing audio textures. Mastodon just telling amazing stories .
That Troy solo is so good! Everything about this song speaks volumes for every single one of them growing on their own but coming together to form something even greater.
I love a song that you just leave on repeat because it's in your head so heavy that you might as well play it.
Lyrics
Within a bruised heart
I'll just say when
Just one time before
It will come again
Little voice inside
Inside my head
Tell me when it's time to turn around again
All appears to fade away
I can see your face
And I feel the pain
And I feel the shame that I have let you down again
People everywhere
Not a drop to drink
Not a dare to think about the damage I have done
Try to give up what weighs
What weighs you down
The only control you have
Is all your own
Do I fit the pieces together again
Or do I leave them lying on the floor?
All appears to fade away
I can see your face
And I feel the pain
And I feel the shame that I have let you down again
People everywhere
Not a drop to drink
Not a dare to think about the damage I have done
Leaving you behind
Is the hardest thing I've done
Asking where did I go wrong?
I wonder what all of this makes
Does fortune favor the bold?
I only know that leaving you
Was the hardest thing
To cut and run
I can see your face
And I feel the pain
And I feel the shame that I have let you down again
People everywhere
Not a drop to drink
Not a dare to think about the damage I have done
I first discovered Mastodon by accident as a kid long time ago and it's been with me throughout my life for quite some time, the good like meeting my fiancee & sharing happy memories, to losing her and my mother as well, and each time I hear "leaving you behind is the hardest thing I've done, asking where did I go wrong?" "I only know leaving you was the hardest thing, to cut and run"
It always gets to me everytime and sends a spear though my heart.
Good to see Mr. Don alive and thriving!
whoa, a bass solo. didn't expect that!
Right?! Digging that.
NICE! I can't wait... Mastodon is my favorite band.
Mine too! Stoked
me too me too
Same
Definitely worth a Grammy! David Bottrill contribution is remarkable. So stoked for the upcoming album!
Ce groupe est trop parfait
Need more Troy solos in my ear holes!
agreed
Read this and the one above explaining that it was a bass solo. Could have been longer so cool
Agreed! We all love Troy as a singer but he's a great bassist too. Loved hearing him show off a bit on this track.
And more videos for my eye holes :3
I wish
The Brent solo transition into the final chorus is
Is it really his voice !? The more i hear it i just cant tell:3
@@BallsDeepInDahl It is Brann on lead vocals and Troy on backing vocals. Brent plays the guitar solo but does not sing here.
The drumming in this song is amazing and the mathcore-esque riffs are fantastic
Queens of the STODON age
Damn it does. I knew it sounded familiar, I just couldn’t put my finger in it...
🤘
Was looking for this comment. You’ve got good taste.
The bridge into the bass solo is powerful as hell. That hits the soul !
I heard a clip of this song on Sky Atlantic’s ‘The Lovers’. Found out what it was and added it to my playlist straightaway. Beautiful song.
If Cliff Burton left a legacy on sound for metal bass and technique, that's this bass solo.
🙏 with love for Cliff
Love it. The acoustic version of this is outstanding. It's a tough call, but Mastodon might have possibly overtaken Killswitch in my Top 3. 😬
Bro this song comes out on my birthday…what a hell of a gift
Happy happy birfday mandingo 🤘
@@BallsDeepInDahl thanks friend🤘🏻so ready for this to drop, I’ve been sitting here for the last 2 hrs in anticipation😂
@@BallsDeepInDahl holy shit. I don’t know what I expected but those expectations were blown out of the water. That was so amazing
Happy birthday, man with good taste
Sooo poppy! There’ll be a buncha confused metalheads when this premiers! Man I hope the whole double is this adventurous. Haven’t been this intrigued since Midlife Crisis snippet in 92. Yes I’m old.
I mean they've been poppy for a minute. Really just wish they'd make a truly heavy song with the melodic confidence of their last few albums.
Midlife Crisis was groundbreaking and still sounds modern and unique today! I am also old 🤪
@@johnsnider2956 I thought a bunch of songs off of Emperor of Sand were a great mix of heavy and melodic, especially towards the end of the album. Fallen Torches (song, not the whole album) was a little more of a lament in my opinion, but still had some great weight. Plus anything with Kelly is pretty heavy in general.
However, I agree that an entire record like that would be fucking SICK.
Right on Chris! ✊
@@johnsnider2956 I feel you on that. But the older I get the more the hunter and omrts rise up in the ranks, workhorse will always be their best song though.
Awesome! Incridible! Amazing song! Oh my goodness
Sounds like 'Emerald City Part II'
Love how it builds up after the solo.
I didn’t hear that until the end of the tune. But I agree. It is very similar while still being extremely different. This band always amazes me
Ember City?
I had my heart severed in a thousand pieces this year and Mastodon helped me cope with the pain.
Now they gift us this wonderful song and it all comes full circle for me.
"Within a bruised heart, I'll just say when
Just one time before, it will come again".
Hey Dario.
Brann would love this.
this album deserves a cinematographic work with videoclips.
This band,
This ethereal way of approaching music is remarkable. The DMT of modern rock/metal for me.
Always, thank you Troy, Bill, Brann and Brent.
Lots of symbolism about reflecting on the past in this, coupled w the ending showing that this moment will also be, at one point, a reflection. The future is still undetermined.
💚💚💚
I love that haunting melodic riff in the chorus. Mastodon just constantly makes some of the most stellar, heavy, and groovy music.
This lead is so melodic. Wow.
Great song but nobody has mentioned how amazing the kick drums sound!
Wow when Troy's voice comes in makes me feel so emotional such power.
Mastodon have reached a whole new level of "AWESOMENESS"
love this song
that guitar solo knew when to leave me wanting more
Incredible voice!!
HELL YES Loved the video AND the song. Can't wait for this album foreal!
4:19 isso aqui é a coisa mais "Mastodon" que existe. Que virada incrível
Mastodon , Ghost and Leprous these bands are the hope of the rock / metal scene for the few next years.
Not one bad album in 21 years.
Not one great album since Crack the Skye
@@jefftaylor8782 I couldn't disagree more. Take that b.s. somewhere else
I think Round the Sun was pretty lackluster. But other than that it's been good stuff. Crack the Skye was their peak I think
@@amirmoradi9595 OMRTS is my favorite album from Mastodon
@@kmsharley75 yeah I'm sure there are plenty of people who like it the most. Everyone is entitled to have their favorite. Just not my cup of tea
Whoa, I was finally able to hear the snippet this morning. Very interesting vibe.. now I’m dying to hear it in full. Also, is that Brann singing? My dude never seizes to amaze me.
Yup
His voice has only gotten better over time. Well done lads!!!
The melodies are beautiful and have so much quality! Great song!
Legitimately excited every time I hear Mastodon is putting out anything new. As usual, great eargasm here… better clean up.
the mark of a good band is being able to musically progress and change.
Their new sound is nowhere as good as their older albums. This song is pretty bland compared to stuff from Leviathan, Crack The Skye, Blood Mountain..
i absolutely see it as a step back and not a step forward. when you subtract technicality and heaviness for catchy choruses and accessibility to a larger audience, that is a step back... imo
@@corrob you are on to something. I think they struck a good balance on the hunter but yes, once more round the sun had some very radio friendly stuff on it.
The fire fades, only embers remain
Just from these 15 seconds it sounds like one of those songs i can listen to on loop for hours
This song sounds like it's going to be abnormally dope
It is!!! Psyched for the new album after hearing it. Best first impression I've had of new material since Crack the Skye.
@@shaunrevell5594 Cracke the skye was perfect
Found the whole song, yeah it's really good.
So so good 🤩
And it is!!!!!!! come listen
Thank you for this one, Mastodon. It's beauty and introspection such as this that is a light in the current darkness.
One of the catchiest hypnotic mastodon riffs ever. So good
Its such a great song, load of progression, amazing riffs and a vocal style which is just sensational and that solo!
Going to see them next Sunday at aftershock in Sacramento and then in December at fox theatre in Oakland
This song is incredible. My absolute favorite from Mastodon
This sounds amazing, can't wait for the full thing.
This. This is a Grammy winning song. Calling it 10/1/2021
noted
why is nobody talking about how they put their right hand in the box and all you ever see are shots of left hands..i cant take much more of this
Must be an editing error. But I see it. Had me confused too.
@@JaceErlan I think mastodon are just a bunch of trolls XD
Once again showing their range. It’s not a matter of genre, they just make good music. They could put out a blue grass album and it would be awesome.
I would actually listen the shit out of that. A bluegrass effort with Brent (ofc) and Brann on the leads
Brents side project "Fiend Without A Face" is pretty great! It's actually somewhat bluegrassy 😂
This song is just ....amazing. really impressed by how mature this sound is.
That riff though.............
Just started listening to Mastodon a few months ago and thank god!
I will listen to mastodon to the point i have to take a break, but these mfers always bring me back
oooooooooooooo so groovy and haunting, I can't wait for the rest of this track.
hey Mastodon!
what sorcery is this? Whatever it is y'all having to capture our mind & soul, I want it too.
Dat bass solo though!!
I only got into Mastodon recently, despite seeing them here and there for years.
It's been a blast thus far
