I use just a bit of salt or garlic salt inside my dried tomato chips containers to keep them dried. Also, I dehydrate both sweet onions and green peppers along with my tomatoes (i use both powdered ranch and garlic salt to season them before putting them into the dehydrator) and grind them up altogether, it is absolutely amazing this way!
Great video. The powder makes a great hot drink! 1 cup of hot water with 1 Tbsp of the powder makes a really good nutritious drink or add a little cream and you got a good soup!
You had me at "tastes like pizza." Hello, my name is Kevin, and I'm a pizzaholic. :-) Since I try to stick to a whole food plant based dietary lifestyle without added refined sugar, oil, or salt, I don't eat pizza often. But it is one of the few things I allow myself the occasional break from my dietary lifestyle for. I should have paid more attention to your Cosori videos. For some reason, I thought it was like many of the other "stainless steel" dehydrators I had looked at and had chrome plated trays instead of stainless steel trays. I just recently splurged on an STX Dehydra stainless steel dehydrator. I'm about to break it in with some mushrooms. I really want to try mushroom powder. If you toss mayo ingredients into a mason jar, you can make mayo in about thirty seconds with an immersion blender. I used to make avocado oil mayo occasionally when I was at the other end of the dietary lifestyle spectrum embracing a low carb carnivore dietary lifestyle. Even if only making it occasionally, I loved having control over the ingredients going into it.
new to dehydrating anything but peppers, so much to learn; I checked out your site, and was blown away by the amount of content, so i subscribed. thanks for your effort, i hope you're handsomely rewarded for your effort.
This is my first time dehydrating tomatoes and, wow, delicious! The flavor is so intensified. I wanted these for 6 to 9 months down the road but I doubt if they last two weeks. Thanks for a great video.
Today I crumpled up some of my seasoned dehydrated tomato chips and put on my salad. OMG delicious! These will be especially good to have during the winter when I don’t buy tomatoes because they are tasteless and expensive. Thank you so much for your videos! Just started dehydrating four months ago after binge watching a bunch of your videos. You are the best!
Eeek! We got our dehydrator delivered today and just got our 1st batch of Tomato chips going based off your video. So excited! Thank you for the video!
Just want to say thanks Darcy for this great and so simple video tip...it looked good so I tried it out as soon as I got your notification. I normaly do the halved cherry/cocktail tomatoes which, being thicker pieces, it always gives me worries about whether they are dried through enough as they remain leathery to the touch! These ready to use, ready seasoned with herbs chips in slices never occurred to me before...they are super delicious and so much easier and faster to dehydrate with perfect results every time (being big tomato and pizza lovers, I've done three loads already 🍕🌞🍕. I use the Roma variety for their sweet taste and less pips 🌞 thanks again for sharing another great idea.
I am so loving dehydrated tomatoes. I tend to look in the fridge or freezer to see what needs to be used up and whip up a meal. Tonight I softened the tomato slices in boiling water. Sliced up the handful of yellow beans (all I had), sliced onion, garlic. Had a bit of crab legs in the freezer so demeated that. Sautéed beans, onions, garlic, threw tomatoe slices in and put the pasta in the tomato water, season with red pepper flakes, oregano and fresh basil. A glob of better than boullon chicken flavor. Some pasta water to veggies then the flaked crab meat. Strained pasta directly to the pan and some Italian blend cheese and done. The softened tomato’s gave a more intense flavor. I’m so glad to have found your channel!
@@ThePurposefulPantry smells great already! I forgot to ask, you mentioned saving the blossom end of your romas for your spaghetti sauce, is there a particular reason you save the ends for that or is it just a way to reduce waste because they wouldn't work well as chips?

I must have failed, do I need to bleach my mat where the mold tomatoe laid? Please tell me what I did wrong.
Sounds like your machine wasn't running properly, you had it down too low, or it wasn't finished drying when the machine went off. Also, leaving them sitting in the dehydrator when it's not running, even if they were dry, means they will sit and absorb ambient humidity from the house. Sure - they won't come back like freshly sliced tomatoes if you choose to rehydrate them, but left in their dried state they are a chewy texture that is quite good.
Just wanted to tell you that my 1st attempt at this was an absolute success...used everything bagel seasoning, garlic, ital seasoning..my hubby started grabbing them from the dehydrator..yr channel has literally opened up possiblities...as I am afraid of canning and a freeze dryer is too expensive for us right now, so thank you❤

Neither is better. It matters what your need is, and what your uses are. I use both, so this time I dried the chips because we use them as chips, and I showed how to further use them as powder and what to do with it.
I'm going to try the chips with the nutritional yeast, sounds so good! Anyway, I froze a bunch of quartered Romas and other tomatoes. I pulled them out as I had time to roast them and make a roasted tomato garlic jam I saw someone make on UA-cam. As I checked on them the skins were separating and tough from freezing, I imagine. So, I took them all off and put them on my dehydrator because I'd seen someone else do this with blanched tomato skins. The jam came out great, and the skins dried really well. I put the skins in a coffee grinder I use for spices and powdered them. I wondered if they would just end up being an un-flavorful gritty addition to whatever I added them to, but it turned out the were delicious, I added them to dips, chili, stews and not sure what else but everything had a deeper more complex flavor. I will never throw out tomato skins again when I blanch or freeze them! I wonder if this will work with peppers too.... hmmm.
Blessings Darcy from Chicago. One of my seniors needs new snacks. I took a jar of my orange tomatoes, for her to try. She said they tasted too good to be tomatoes. I'm making her snack bags from my many dehydrated chips.
These have become my favorite things to make in my dehydrator. ❤ They make my house smell like an Italian restaurant. I like taking them on the trail, or fishing.
I bet it takes awhile to dehydrate thick tomato slices! I like to dehydrate halved cherry tomatoes but they take a long time as well. You just have to be patient. Dried tomatoes 🍅 are pretty with their shriveled little seeds. 🤗 And they taste good! I keep mine in the frig like you suggested. So far so good! I watch when they go on sale. Right now they are expensive like everything else.
Great video glad I found you I would of sliced them too thin. I love nutritional yeast and so good for you. I have a bounty of tomatoes and no way was I going to can them and dehydrated are so much more healthy for you with the enzymes. Thank so much and that di looks amazing also
Hi Darcy , i have learned so much from your videos, you explain things very easy to understand! What size absorbers do you use ? I looked on Amazon and there are different grams. Yes - just make sure it actually gets down to the proper temps.

Is it ok the dehydrate tomatoes, then put in freezer?. I love to dehydrate items, but I’m not confident with storing, even when sealed in jars.
Sure - but that's the whole point of dehydrating - making them shelf-stable. Dry them completely, store them in an airtight jar, and you're good.
How many grams do you use in your quart jar for the tomato chips? So many different size grams out there.

When dehydrating tomatoes are you suppose to put salt. On them before dehydrating them
As you saw in this video - if you want seasoned tomatoes, you season them before you dry them. There's no reason to add anything if you are storing.
Add a little garlic. lol That was a lot. I'm doing the same with all my tomatoes and peppers from the garden. Much easier than canning. 👍

Hello,,,what about those of us who don’t have a dehydrator machine?
Then use your oven at its lowest temperature - being mindful of them cooking instead of actually drying. You want 170F or lower.

Thank you for a great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Do you need to vacuum seal these jars of dries vegetables?
No - it can be helpful, but it's not necessary.
Thanks! Love your content
I appreciate that!
Thank so much and that di looks amazing also
I am just LOVING these videos!!!!

i am doing something wrong it comes out wet i put it in the overn at 170. 😢
You aren't giving it enough time to dry.
Hi Darcy , i have learned so much from your videos, you explain things very easy to understand! What size absorbers do you use ? I looked on Amazon and there are different grams. Please tell me what size would be best for anything you do . Thanks again for your videos very much appreciated in these times .
I use 5 gram moisture absorbers because then I don't have to think about it. :D I don't use O2 absorbers at all.
Thank-you ❤
Thanks so much. Great video. It is July and I am looking at the bounty on my tomato plants thinking omg!!
This is fun. I don't like tomatoes normally but these look GREAT 'uk
