Hier I am not great in multiplayer for Rome 2, but I think the Getae show up a lot because of two of their unique cavalry picks. First, Bow Horsemen are fairly cost effective. They are basically Armenia's Horse Archer unit for like 10-20 more cost but on a Barbarian roster. Only the Nomads, Bactria(mercenaries), and Parthia have more effective cheap horse archers and they have very different rosters. Second, I find Spear Horsemen to basically be the Levy Freemen of melee cavalry (not quite as cost effective). I have said it in other comments but despite their mostly terrible stats they are heavy and have an okay charge all for less than 600. Impact damage is real in Rome 2 especially against unbrace units and anything medium infantry weight class and below. They are just hard to trade effectively against when facing a Getae player of equivalent skill. I don't know how high they rank, but Getae's roster is only really missing two things. The lack mid-tier melee infantry and also have a general lack of cheap Javelins, besides that they have a decently cost-effective version of most other unit archetypes. Maybe that roster and being the only cool Dacian faction is why they see a lot of play. Then agian, maybe it is just YT submissions and our confirmation bias making us think so and they are played as much as any other faction.
Wow thought it was a wrap early on what a turnaround
That switched to the Iceni's favor quickly and suddenly!
The general died and everything chainrouted
Wow, I thought it was just too costly for the Iceni in the beginning but just wow. Like when the Getae was overloading one flank, I thought it was downhill from there
I still can't really comprehend how this one turned around so fast
If you play even a campaign with Getae you will understand as they lack quality on the long run. No mid tier infantry hurts as well
Yeah ikr. It seemed over early.
This is why you don't use your general as a direct combat unit early on... Getae threw the general away, then their units all shattered and it was just over.
Those wide armies are deadly if the slingers stay healthy
You should do a Empire divided game, since Aurelian was a believer in the cult of Sol Invictus
It was all about keeping the slingers alive, so there was no need for mass micro… just keep them at bay
Thanks again to both Heir and Sol for this great battle
1:30 who has let the dawgs out . I had to
What a comeback! Was getting ready to sing the praises of the Dacian Heavy Skrimishers
I was really confused how the Iceni won, but looking back, the Getae lost their general early on and pumped money into their skirtmishers/archers. I think we were all led to believe these archers were making huge impact on the field constantly peppering, but they only had some 45 kills on average with a pretty high price. Meanwhile the Iceni had cheap slingers with 60,70, even 100+ kills. I think those slingers were the ones making big impact, not the Getae archers. Maybe if Getae took out the slingers they would've had a better chance, but Iceni had so much decent infantry it would've mopped up the Getae anyway, so I don't know if there really was any better strategy...
Heir I think its time for a Getae campaign. Really tough start and super fun battle tactics. I've made a few Getae campaigns over the years and it is always super fun fighting hoards of barbarians with my falxmen.
I think some 2v2 low funds matches would be interesting.
Hearing you say the cavalry is going ham melted my 🥓🥓🥓 heart.
Our Horses Love Blood!!!
according to Sol Invictus they are an A tier faction- based on tournament rules of course
I really think you should pause in order to go over the armies, you miss some early engagements.
So looking at this the Iceni apparently had numbers, but they did not take advantage of them. In the end it was actually the Getae who ended up always having local superiority. Combine this with their superior quality and well. It was not a close fight.
I'm not judging btw, I wouldn't do any better.
Let this stand as why you should not comment before the end of a battle.
I think the ambusher saved the day
Iceni ambushers are such a slept on unit. They have amazing melee stats and have 5 javelins
@@Norwegianjesus13 but a glass canon. Because of a basically non existent armour. Every range units will shred them instantly. But if they get untouched late game in the fight then they are just gonna wreck basically anything
I feel like Iceni is missing something but I can't pin point what it is. Also Dacian spear horsemen are really good for the price, plus they have heavy mass which is devastating on the charge against infantries
What the dog doing?
Heir WHERE THE ROME VIDEOS!!!
So did wardogs drop in price? I remember them being unpopular back in the day because their price meant you were basically sacrificing an additional infantry unit for a potential chance to take out skirmishers. But now I see Sol using them quite a lot
Actually Sol was the opponent this match 😂
I think they upper tier of players have just learned how to use them better. I still see very little point in bringing them as I doubt, I could get a return on them (I'm bad). People also used to use them a lot to try and counter horse archers with back in the day, which despite being sort of how they were portrayed was way harder to pull off than it was to counter. Now that players are using them on skirmishers, I think to potential to get your money's worth is much higher. They big key is that the dogs don't have a unit banner. If you can distract your opponent and get them into expensive skirmishers, especially if they aren't split up correctly, you can get an absurd number of kills before they notice. The dogs have low hp of 20 but have 40 melee attack/defense, charge, and damage (36 base and 4 ap). Skirmishers, not counting heavy peltast type units (big shields usually), have at most 40 armor and 55 hp and it is usually much less. It won't take long for the dogs to chew through that especially if they don't notice them and do not fight back properly.
Did the Iceni bring like 40 units or something? How the hell did they win
