REGARDING SEEING IF THE GENERAL IS DEAD: You were so close! The little curvy arrow pointing down in the bottom right corner of the unit card labeled "Cycle Mode" allows you to switch from the unit information screen to the unit portrait. You hovered over it and almost clicked it. If it disappears, which you can see was the case for both generals near the end of the match, that means that the general is dead. Great replay and thanks for continuing to put out great content! EDIT: Wanted to add that this is something that I was wondering about for a long time and give credit to the individual who commented this tip on the last few videos!
This. Virgin armor vs chad iron abs. In all seriousness, the obscene sturdiness of germanic slingers coupled with the hilarious amount of AP wodnaz spears have is busted against steppe factions. You wouldn't think a low armor, low staying power faction would be such a great counter but here we are
@@brainletfag I would put it more to the fact that all of the Suebi units are fast and besides Bloodsworn and Berserkers they all have 55 to 65 block chance (if they have shields). You need decent micro to do it, but this lets you swarm the nomads which takes all of the nomads' advantages besides mass out of the game. Without infantry nomads are always going to have way less bodies (infantry have 2x and skirmishers have 1.5x more men than cav). Your entire strategy as the Nomads is surround, harass and pick only the right engagements. If someone take the initiative away from you, it makes your job as the nomad way harder as any little mistake and a bs javelin toss is going to kill horsemen you can't afford to lose while they can have plenty of arrow fodder and charge bait. EDIT: The Wodanaz have the same AP as any other elite Barbarian spear unit. The have 6 which isn't that much. I'm not sure why people think they have so much AP. I mean they have decent attack for a spear and cavalry counter tactics which when combined with the pride ability wrecks armored cavalry, but you can only do it once. Also, most of the Nomads don't have that much armor so it's not that important. The scale elite armor gives 60 but not many units have it.
I know you're good at the game and all. But, a Lightly armoured barbaric faction does poorly against Steppe factions. A sword master will melt under a solid Heavy Shock Cav charge unbraced.
Carpal tunnel simulator for both players. Would like to see it too, but I tend to get very venomous reactions from players once I pick a steppe faction.
Those are pretty boring. It just ends up in a big cav fight. I had one. Me as Armenia vs a steppe faction. My Armenia shock cav tanked their way to victory.
They still need to give the nomads the Young Axes, Steppe Archers, and Steppe Spearmen. I still only play them in campaign when I have my own or other mods that give them those units and/or more custom ones. Even if they are crap presenting an infantry line and/or foot skirmish line to use as an axis of maneuver gives you so many more strategic options. Also, historically the Scythians (ethnic group) and specifically the Royal Scythians did fight on foot. Either themselves or using subject tribes as infantry though usually 50% or more would be mounted as far as we can tell. The Greeks talk about them fighting both mounted and on foot and mention fighting with unique swords and a type of axe war pick hybrid weapon. Just felt like they weren't done justice in the game. Hell, as far as we can tell they invented hotboxing! They used to seal up tents and put marijuana on the embers of a big fire and just get baked inside. Come on CA where is my building that gives public order because all my Scythians are high off their asses.
Heir, i believe i saw a video some years ago mentioning that spears in square formation with fire at will on are NOT braced. Neither can you toggle off fire at will when already in formation.
this is the battle that showcase the importance of mass in rome 2. Stat wise the thureos and agema spear are very good against calvary, but even then they cannot properly brace the charge of HCavalry, and so they lost. Pergamon would fare better if they brought some elite hoplites with them.
Wow what a unique battle. This one was different. These are awesome. Just need to get some more players as good as sol invictus to give him a challenge! He seems to win all his games.
These types of battles are definitely tough for both sides. Both players will suffer attrition. It really comes down to who did it better or who pulls of a solid move late in the battle to turn things.
Pergamon General: Help steppe bro, I'm stuck in a box
lol perfect

Thanks for the call out! Appreciate it.
Good game and thanks for casting Heir. Suebi is still the best counter to the nomads in my opinion.
What type of build and tactics would you use as Suebi when facing Nomads?

If you spam out spears, maybe. A lot of their frontline has little armor.

This battle was interesting to see, but if I can make a suggestion, show us a battle horde vs. horde to see how that would play out.

Yea it would be a ton of micro. I wouldn't be able to do it well lol. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel!

Amen
Agreed. They definitely need this.
I just got into Rome 2. These battles are great and I’m learning from these clips. Funny commentary too, thanks for sharing.
Glad you are enjoying them! Hope it will help you think up some ways to help you in game.
Damn steppe factions and javelin Box. This brings back memories
Yep. It is like a mongoose and cobra fighting.
what a fight ..both played really well
Heir, i believe i saw a video some years ago mentioning that spears in square formation with fire at will on are NOT braced. Neither can you toggle off fire at will when already in formation.
I know fire at will cancels bracing. But I am not sure about if it can be turned off while in formation.
the nomad guy is just amazing
It was well played.

Units don't brace if they are on fire at will anyways.
Yea mass does play a role for sure. Especially late in a fight in the absence of javelin damage
Another great battle provided by Sol. I thought Pergamon was going to survive and win a costly victory. Sol was triumph as usual
God I love horse archers
They are super cool units.
Great battle, great commentary
Thank you!
Thanks for all the rome 2 content heir!!
Glad you are enjoying it!

Will is the most popular on Javilin Day.. everyone fires at Will ;3
Yes!
Heir when is the next historical campaign coming like Alexander’s Seleucid one!!! Love you and your content Heir!!!
I don't know at the moment, but would be fun to do one
Has anyone seen a match where people dismounted their Calvary?
Not recently. It wouldn't make sense for most scenarios. I know some folks will do it in a siege.
Pergameme 😂
Yea. Good times. Hope you are doing well! Hope you enjoy the Rome 2 videos.
Heir, why have you stopped saying "what the crap is going on"? What the crap man?🧐
*throat singing and airag drinking intensifies*
lol Attila style
