@@ActionKid I can't say I blame Port Authority for closing it. That railing was way too rusty. I used to think it'd be cool to ride those sidewalks on a bike. Now I'm scared to try.
Been riding over the GW for over 50 years, my grandfather used to ride over it on a fixed wheeled racer. Take it easy with the criticism of the bike lanes. Remember when they built this bridge in the early thirties it wasn’t intended for cycling,! Just to update everyone the north side walkway is closed for construction and the Southside bike lane has NO stairs
Thank you so much for recording this. I’m planning to go to New Jersey this year for my UA-cam channel. Since now all the bridges are accessible to walk across the bridge for free. Since I live in Manhattan near the terminal of W178st. Thank you. It’s going to be easy for me to remember. Have a great day. 😇👍.
I'm an American, and an ex-Long Islander as well, and I'm leery about it. I like how they have that wheel well along the steps so you can roll your bike up or down the stairs if you want.
Wow this is crazy , so much money this bridge makes a day and they can’t build a proper straight bike lane with no stairs , wow big 👍🏽 to all the people who go tru this
It’s June 19 , 2024 North Walkway is Brand New and Built Much Wider it Has a Tall Protective Fence About ten Feet High I Guess to Prevent Jumpers , Staffed With 24/7 Security , Walkway Does Close Down at 12 Midnight and Reopened 5am Everyday if Your Walking Be Careful of Speeding Bikes and Scooters Going in Both Directions the South Walkway is Closed Now and Being Rebuilt Won’t Be Open For a Few Years.
On November 20, 2021 I planned to go to Ft Lee park to video record the "Retreat from Fort Lee". Looking to get some videos and photos of the NYC skyline I chose to walk rather that take the bus. The south side was open. There were a few breaks between the high fencing that I could get a lens through so I didn't make many stops. Hoofing at fast pace it took me around 20 minutes to cross. This year on the 19th I opted to drive. No bridge videos, but great event and Hudson River videos. BTW: George Washington lost the battle but won the war. LOL
As a young woman who likes to wear green, I have lots of energy to bike down streets, over bridges, or across train tracks with Sarina in the daytime or at night.
That is the bridge I want to walk and ride over in the near future. I have to say it is the sketchiest bridge I’ve seen with that drop going into Jersey.
Wow! I was thinking the entire time how one could easily fall over the side going into Jersey with a high seated position/tall bike. How about collisions with other cyclist on that narrow road?! 😲
Are there any bump on the bridge bike path and can you ride a mountain bike on the bridge bike path and how do you keep your cell phone on your bike handlebar
the exact spot where he ends at the bottom of the steps ft lee police stopped me for jay walking. they said they were watching the bridge and asked what i bought and came back with. i said nothing. i just wanted to walk across the bridge and back. they searched me and found a bag of coke in my sock. thing is i had that from earlier. i just walked across the bridge to give my friend some alone time in a car with a chick he was trying to fuck with. they were parked in the kings parking lot. so cops find the coke and actually just let me go. walked back to kings and we were all on our way back to clifton. but damn that intersection brought back memories. this was 24 years ago BTW.
I prefer the Golden Gate Bridge. I’ve walked across GWB in 1967 and GGB in the 70s. GGB sidewalks must nicer. The path doglegs around towers on both bridges.
That is a KILLER view from the GW. It looks like the only thing better would be a helicopter tour. That is one hell of a bridge. Are you allowed to cycle on the Narrows Bridge?
That is fucked up having to dismount that many times to get over the bridge. As I have been over the GW many times I would skip that ride and wait to go over the south side of the bridge when available.Take the PATH train to Newark or Jersey City to get in some descent hard miles. You can find big hills in a matter of minutes.Ride on my cycling brothers and sisters.
I hated when I planned to cross the bridge in the 90s when I saw that the path was closed I was angry but I thought that the other path would be the same I was wrong stairs 😭 but I figured well I get extra exercise but it was August temperature pushing close to 90+ degrees and massive humidity I collapsed before I reached the New Jersey land good thing that two marine corps officers saw me they went with me to the fort Lee medical center/hospital good they said I was dehydrated because I had no water bottle with me how did get back to Manhattan look around and I found out how due to being a map reader helped me return by bus and train
Now I'm starting to see the usefulness of these videos. I never cycled through George WashingTon Bridge before so this very helpful.
Thanks! Right now the north sidewalk is closed and the southern one is open.
MisterSal Same and I feel wanting to visit to NJ for the first time from Fort Lee to Union City or Newark as well!
Balderrama 24/7 Chillin on UA-cam Don’t go to Newark

Just a really steep slope, which I discovered the hard way. 🤣
Even if you give them a break a 30 year break the last 20 years I got a figure something out a lot more convenient and better than what it is today!

From a Dutchman perspective regarding cycling, this is absolutely insane!.
Y'all got Rip Van Winkles bridge, haha.

Omg, so many stairs! Up and down all those flights just to get across!

I think you got across by bike faster than like 70% of traffic does
Thanks for the video never got to see the right side of the GW Bridge I always rode on the left.
And with what exact camera are you filming with?
This is very informative. I bet a lot of people don’t know where the walkway is since it’s kind of hidden and not close to the vehicle entrance.
YUP!! Been looking foe that walkway for a months now! Crossing that bridge today!!!
As a young woman who likes to wear green, I have lots of energy to bike down streets, over bridges, or across train tracks with Sarina in the daytime or at night.
The only "big bridge" that I recall riding my bike on is the Brooklyn Bridge. No stairs there!
Nice video!
Thanks for the video too many damn stairs I was gonna do it tomorrow but I’ll pass thanks for the ride...
Thanks for posting, this is wicked *stay safe*
Born and raised in NYC and I’m just finding out that you could WALK across the GWB 🤦🏽♂️…
as a dutch person I forgot to do that when I was In NY, atleast now I have an idea of the view thx!
ridiculous amount of stairs !
I don't think the designers of the north walkway put much thought into mobility at all.
those stairs are a hassle lol I’m glad I saw this video before doing it
The Hudson is a wide river.
Street view through the lens of a regular joe, keep up the good work.
That is the bridge I want to walk and ride over in the near future.
I have to say it is the sketchiest bridge I’ve seen with that drop going into Jersey.
How the hell do you do this? I would be scared to death!
You need upper body strength!
They have since made the GW bridge suicide proof so it's covered with wired netting. Took away from it's beautiful view.
❤️❤️❤️❤️. So great to hear!

I wonder how viable it is to blast across this bridge with a Roadbike?

Our new Samuel de Champlay bridge in Montreal is much better bicyle friendly than GW bridge. This one is a nightmare. 😞
I found out about this today trying to get to the other side for the first time in my bike. It was a hassle
Good. When I jump, the fence won’t be too high.
oh man I don't miss this old trail lol
I'm a simple man. Can you tell me if I can cyc;e to Queens (Flushing) from Albany.
Got worried by that siren comin up next to ya? lol
That is a KILLER view from the GW.
It looks like the only thing better would be a helicopter tour.
That is one hell of a bridge.
Are you allowed to cycle on the Narrows Bridge?
Nope, you’re not allowed to cycle on The Narrows Bridge unless it’s the annual Five Boro Bike Tour held in May.

I heard Monica Lewinsky lives in NYC.

Fucking bridge is so old they can’t even put a new bike paths and an easier entrance to get on the bridge to cross.
Pathetic cycling lanes. NY must be broke!
