@@mineralwater6736 As a Neptune fan who's played the mainline entries plus a couple spinoffs I think his review was perfectly valid and fair. Neptune has lovely character designs and amusing dialogue but that's honestly about it, from a gameplay and technical perspective Neptune has always been mediocre at best.
Game is objectively bad tho. And this is coming from someone who played every nep game, ever. Call a spade a spade. I recently played through the series on PC and even tho I somehow 100% every game like 10 years ago, there is literally no way I could suffer all this trash game design in 2024 lmao. So I just turned on super xp boosters and called it a day. Now that I'm older (a far more seasoned gamer), u got me fucked up if u think I'm grinding through these garbage RPGs.
Ignore the game and enjoy the story. Thats how you play nep games....treat them far more like anime/manga than games. VII was the only okay-ish game to play. If u want to play a nep game to check it off your bucket list, then choose VII (the playable game) or rebirth1 (the first/simplest game). Don't pay more than $6 for any of these games ($5 for the cute anime girls, $1 for the "gameplay").

After indulging myself in the dark and foreboding worlds of Death End Re;Quest and Mary Skelter as well as immersing myself to the brim in the House in Fata Morgana, I needed a bright and fun colorful JRPG to offset it and Neptunia couldn’t have come at a better time 🎉

Thanks for the review. The devs still can't get action games right after all these years. You're absolutely right about this game's longevity. It still exist today only because of the fans that love it ever since it's original release in 2010. However though I've played nearly every Neptunia game that had come out and I love the series and it's humor so this is a buy from me still. Thanks again.

I consider myself a pretty big fan of this series because I own a physical copy of every game in it except for 2 spinoffs, and this review is honestly pretty accurate. Believe me, the story in this game is exactly what fans of the series like, but the combat is bad even for this series' standard. Should have stuck with their main turn based system from thr mainline games and used the new character models with it.
Just switch between characters and you have a fluent gameplay. Problem solved.
True, the combat system is whatever, but honestly, 99% of us play this game for it's "visual novel" part.

I have played ALL the neptunia games and it's true that the gameplay is pretty meh BUT OMG THE MODELS, in rebirth 1, 2, V, and VI are the same, BUT THE NEW HAVE SO MANY DETAILS I LOVE IT, neptunia is a game that is not really about the gameplay sistem ( but the ones in the old games are really good ) is about the personality of the characters, the amazing VA, and the historyline, that's why i love the neptunia games
If you're well informed about anime, pop culture and memes, Neptunia games is actually fun and great! I play it once and I get all the references, it gets me all the time! All the parodies, references, breaking the 4th wall, tho I can say that this franchise have it's own dedicated audience :v and I'm among that rare audience who have a slightly wierd taste lol :v I mean, weebs are never normies to begin with haha!
This vieo was so negative about the game but in my eyes it all sounded very good/fun.
1.) Pretty much a visual novel
Oh yeah! Let's go! Story and character interactions is pretty much why I play/love the games I do, like Tales Of, Persona, and Trails, games with very long cutscenes that I just love so hearing this game has a lot of talking is great!
2.) Linear dungeons
That's music to my ears too! That way I can get to the next story segments faster since gameplay for me is 2nd anyway.
3.) Gameplay
Well if the game isn't hard and it sounds like it plays simple and easy then that's great for me. I can have fun just swinging around weapons and easily killing off enemies so I can get to the next story scene. Hey, as long as it doesn't crash and I lose a lot of progress than I'm find with very basic gameplay.
Well, I play this series pretty much for the fun and silly characters and story anyway so looks like that's more of what I'll get and I'm looking forward to playing this game.(Though I can say that for any game I look forward to playing, playing them for the characters and stories. 😅)

@@defordefor9865 it’s better than just safekeeping *everyone* from playing it. It’s like “if you like this game then that’s good for you” rather than “don't even touch this game even if you like the series”.
It's not the greatest series but from what I can tell this is the closest thing to a 5th main game after 7-8 years of spinoffs since V-II, just that has me excited, but Nepgear starring again for the first time since mk2/RB2 (more or less my favorite) is a bonus.
I got this review algorithmed to me like 5 minutes after I confirmed the purchase on the Limited Edition lmao.
I can't see this series expanding beyond it's small niche anymore. V-II was the only time it felt like a big step up in quality and has stagnated since, sometimes even declined.
It's kinda funny how this is also considered the best game in the series so far. Makes me wonder what makes it for some, and what breaks it for others.
Well, from what I can gather, the thing the fans love the most are the stories and the characters (and art style). And the thing the folks not too familiar with the series hate the most is the general gameplay and the combat.
So on one hand, you have folks who really like visual novels and are more than happy to overlook the gameplay flaws for the interesting story and its themes regarding the at the time/current gaming scene. On the other hand, you have folks who honestly just prefer engaging games that are fun to play through and would love nothing more than a skip button to avoid story cutscenes and exposition if they start to feel too bloated, but are willing to put up with it for some really fun gameplay and combat.
...and you can bundle me up with these folks. While I really like a good story - and the idea of personified game consoles/companies going on war with each other in a similar way to how we see it in real life, with a good dose of satire for good measure, is one I honestly really love - the worst thing you can do to me is make me play a visual novel, or go through really extensive cutscenes where all we do is read/listen to the dialogue (and believe me, sin some cases I'd rather just read it) while we look at nigh still portrait frames of characters that are either children or have huge badonkers.
In fact, just like Yuri from DDLC struggles to consider manga literature, visual novels have gotta be the one genre I even struggle to consider "games" by definition to begin with. Cus a game probably needs some gameplay, and the one things visual novels lack is, well, gameplay. Just call them "Choose your adventure style digital books", that's kinda what most of them are. I know it's ironic I'm using a character from a horror meta visual novel game to convey my point, but for one, that one is way more than just a simple visual nove, and two, I never actually did play DDLC. I only watched videos and fanmade content... which means I get what I signed up for - not a game, but a video telling a story, so my expectations coincide with what I got, rather than the idea of playing a game where all I do is press the "next" button and sometimes make a choice and save my progress.
Well, side rant aside, it's kinda easy to see towards who this series caters to. Again, the idea of game companies fighting against or alongside each other is a really cool one!... it's just ironic that it's on a game series that apparently doesn't seem to play as well as one would hope.
I play for the gameplay and this games gameplay is clunky ass garbage they need to stick to turn based and that's it

I actually loved the gameplay of this entry but it lacked some fan service, it was too serious. Good plot, good music. Dungeons are a bit too big and bland but hey, it's a small low budget franchise but with lots of heart.
when you showed off the jumping I was immediately reminded of Little dragon cafe or whatever it was called... so much potential but the game ran horribly and the controls were just bad... and when a game has mild platforming and you can't even jump right? ugh.

Neptunia is the Flagship game franchise of Compileheart the other half of the remaining staff of Compile. They also announced a Little Witch Nobetta game and ported Azur Lane to PC and Consoles.
This game does have wonky animations and is very sensitive to even the slightest stick drift on pc, didn't happen in any neptunia game, the gameplay at first kinda sucked but after playing around with combo creator, knowing meta char such as rom nepgear and Neptune and tweaking their combo to not have a delay makes the game better to play, and dodging in this game felt better than blocking, I think this game should have had a parrying mechanic like cyberdimension, ofc most people might not try that part out and expect to zip though stages by mashing buttons.
This is by far the best neptunia game for me and been waiting for a mainline since 2016.
This game really does have issues like making everything char feel snappy and fun to play with, but it's barrable for me and wish to not see these rough edges in next titles. Also yea I've played nier autometa and it's my most fav game in every aspect so I get where the creator of this video is coming from.
The Neptuneia games really coasted on the lack of competition from the PS3 days didn't they

I also wonder if only fans of the series are reviewing these games anymore. I don't see IGN, GameSpot, etc. posting reviews. I think it artificially raises the score. Either way, I hope you have fun!

@@TheGamingShelfIGN / Gamespot got ran off when they did reviews thinking the fanservace wasn't part of the joke when the Chara designer and story lead are both women the old PS3 games were basically the "Donkey Kong" title for Compile Heart it's built using a recycled engine from a RPG that failed harder and it's concept art was taqken from a aborted concept for a princess based game with 3 sisters and they later decided to do hot gaming commentary with cute goddesses and had Tusoanko desgine Neptune the goddess for Sega the 4 nation

@@martinde-serres8724 Actually comparing games there is no such thing as going wrong with comparisons, because it is comparisons that make up the better game. Nier automata is action jrpg, so is sisters vs sisters you can easily compare these games together.
One has better programmers and developers, the other sisters vs sisters has low grade developers and rubbish story tellers and music composers in comparison. Yes we can compare it and we just told you Nier is better game.

From playing this series starting on the ps3, Sister vs Sister looks like the best Neptunia game to date. Still got varieties Neptunia games on my ps4 and vita to play but once the game is under 20 it is definitely a must buy.
Just from watching this video this game looks horrible. Goddess Online looks way better if we are talking about action base neptunia games. I didn't play the other 2 or 3 spin off action games after V2 and goddess online but to me they look pretty good. This is probably the first time since the original ps3 game where I think the game look kinda bad.
I heard that this game is supposdely part of the main line game and so I though i might get back into neptunia again, but this is looking kinda bad. I will likely play it still since its a main game when the price drops but I am kinda not looking forward to it.
The neptunia series is a very niche game, you often love them or have no interest. Still plan to wait until it hits $20 before buying.

I disliked the combat too but I enjoy the series for the story so I kept going. While I kept at it, I learned the combat system and knew exactly why I wasn't having the greatest time starting. It's not an action game, it's a turn based game without clear turns. After I learned how to play the combat I started rolling everything. The game is honestly too easy combat-wise. Is it a bad game? No. Should you play it if you're looking for raw gameplay? Also no.
i never had issues with the camera on the steam version. the reason it seems slow is because its a weird mix of action and turn base. pretty much every action game would come up, short if you compare it to nier automata gameplay.
nep games are basically something you already know if you will like. there will probably never be a game made to convert non fans, or anything with a decent budget. the games are admittedly technically bad but enjoyable.

As a fan of the franchise I got this one on sale, I couldn't really get into it I feel its a step backwards I know other fans love the story of this 1 it didn't grab me enough unfortunately, lower lvl cap, less monster types fewer dungeons janky movement and combat, the rebirth neptunia games are litterly the best out of the series so far and neptunia 7 was also pretty fantastic, hopefully they kind of find a balance between the styles with future installments?
The same was true for "4 Goddesses Online". Seems, they didn't fix a thing.
frames and graphics what you describe is simple terms is just how the game is developed, the programmers are not as good as you think, a good programmer and developer would have been able to program the game with top graphics and 60 frames, better game mechanics, better storyline everything. It simply comes down to the developers of Neptunia series SUCK lol.

Wow, just looking at the combat, your attacks have zero feedback. No animation or hitstop from the enemies, it's like in the Elder Scrolls series only worse.

@@angelicplay3419 +1 here. BUT I agree that these games really might work better as anime...... considering how long the VN sections sometimes are and that they are the highlights of the games.
And I thought SAO Alicization Lycoris’ combat was wonky and slow. Wish they’d go back to the original circular grid turned based formula.
Not surprising. Most of IF/Compile Hearts are on a string budget when it comes to polished gameplay. CH games are not remotely good, but I enjoy them on a so bad it’s good type.

@@LTDLetsPlays Mary Skelter's "problem" is that the story is finished and it's not really easy to build a spin-off in that game world. maybe another alternate timeline but it's kind of a long shot to try to match the quality of the original trilogy imo. What they really need is a completely new franchise (something like Dragon Star Varnir but not a an one-off game). I'm not interested in their new otome games, so the current situation is not optimal for me as a fan :/

It's not a mainline Nep game CH has said that themselves. They also announced that they are finally working on an actual mainline game, but don't have a release window for it at the moment.

From what I see of the gameplay they tried to replicate the freeze frames most commonly seen in 2D fighting games where you get a delay in animation whenever you get a good hit in.
not surprised that this game isn't very good. It's good IFI are broadening out their lineup with otome games and third party releases from the likes of Justdan and Sting, cause their lineup needs it.
they have Mary skelter dungeon crawler Trillion god of destruction (not sure how to describe this) Omega quintet (turn based rpg but very different mechanics) they have been expanding their different genres for a long while now especially post megadimension release

I just think the devs dont try as hard as they could. This series has a ton of potential with lore and loveable characters but its been stagnant since 2016.

Action wise, they should stick to the old turn based combat, I think.
It's a shame but I can't say I'm surprised over the fact you hated this game. This is a niche series for a reason after all. It's not going to connect with everyone, or even the majority of people for that matter. And if I recall correctly, I don't think you've liked any of the entries you've touched previously so...water is wet I guess.
I'm a freak so I like the series well enough but even I'll openly admit it's not without its glaring flaws. Not every fan has liked every entry, I know there are some I've quite disliked in fact. Especially when it comes to the spin-offs since they tend to be either co-developed (usually with Tamsoft or Sting, contentious developers in their own rights) or outsourced entirely (Tiny Cactus Studio for example). A mixed bag in an already mixed bag.
Kind of makes me wish they'd just focus on continuing the mainline games, last one being released nearly 8 years ago now, but whatever. It's hinted to be getting adapted as the 2nd season of the anime so that's something I guess. "SVS" strangely is technically part of the main timeline but still a spin-off, meaning it's oddly not newcomer friendly since it requires previous knowledge of events and characterizations...for once.
But despite all that, the series has it's own specific charm that some freaks like me still like to this day and most mainstream folks aren't going to get that. And that's fine. Just kinda wish there were less boorish statements but the lack of respect is understandable unfortunately. Though that can be said about gaming culture as a whole in general.
I'd say good luck with next time but maybe it's for the best there isn't a next time.

Wait! 3 characters at a time?! What the hell?! the previous Neptunia games let you have up to 4 characters in battle at a time! Especially for formation attacks.
Anyway, the main thing that's making me hesitate on playing SvS, is the unnecessary dialog change which removed swearing, and changed the Bastard Sword name to Brute Sword.

Besides GTA, this is the only game I know that doesn't give a free upgrade from PS4 to PS5. I refuse to purchase the game again or play it even though I tried it for an hour
I never been a fan of Neptunia. I liked more the other game from the company (Agarest Wars). But looks like they are just releasing game after game, barely making any improvement and only relying in baits (like panty shots) to attract customers. The games looks like at least 2 generations older in HD.
I just tried this game as a fan of the franchise and this combat is the worst piece of garbage I've ever seen. What the f were they thinking? Why is literally every franchise across the globe turning to sewage? From One Piece to Star Wars, From Modded minecraft to Halo to Neptunia, they're all becoming beyond trash.
As a former neptunia player (completed like 7 or 8 games) i agree that the games kinda low budget and suck, they always reuse assets and after playing more quality games it's really hard to go back to neptunia games since they feel too low effort to be honest. I still like the waifus tho
I've known about this series for years, but I've never bought a single game, maybe cause most of the choices range from slightly above average to bad. But you do have a point about this series having a niche fanbase. The fact that Idea Factory continues to make these games means a sizable amount of people buy them but it can't last forever. Look at Star Ocean, for as much as fans love the first few games and how long they waited for a new one, it didn't stop the fifth game from selling absolutely pathetically.
Exactly! You don't make THIS many games if no one's buying them. They obviously have a very dedicated following, I'm just not in it.

I never have any buttons lag input and my set up of combos make my girls goes really fast and chain as well it goes fast, it also says on tutorial to choose the right combos to connect without problems I have a vvr tv maybe that's why I'm actually having fun defeating bosses easily since I got the right combination for my girls that only problem that I have is not 60 fps for the ps5 version all the other neptunia games are 60 fps.on ps4. Ps also equip disk to have good tactics like combo loop to spam combos, goddess time, more damage when doing combos, and my favorite histoire disk.
I think this review is inherently biased and clearly the reviewer is woefully uninformed about the franchise given his last Neptunia experience was on PS3, all three of which are inferior to their Vita counterparts (especially the first game).
The comparisons to Nier are quite unfair given the two are completely unrelated and it's obvious he came in expecting the game to be something it wasn't.
If you dislike the game or even the franchise, fine. Neptunia is very niche and isn't for everyone. However, don't go around using your overbloated expectations, general lack of Neptunia knowledge and experience, and especially comparisons to other titles in addition to petty concerns about graphics to bash the franchise while attempting to convince other people to not play it just because the game wasn't up to your too-high standards or liking.
That's just low.

I know you’re a big fan of the franchise and will disagree and that’s totally fine. For me, I play a lot of JRPGs and to me it’s all relative. Games don’t release in a vacuum, so when I see something I think is really bad in comparison I have to be honest about it.

Big Neptunia fan here: I was very disappointed by this game. To put it bluntly, the Neptunia games themselves are for the most part, not good. It's the characters, visual design, and witty writing loaded with references to video game history that makes the games worth playing for the people who are a part of that niche it hits home with.
The best the series has been so far was with Megadimension Neptunia VIIR, which I think was a genuinely good game, at the same time, while that game had great mechanical depth I was hoping to see mostly return in Sisters vs Sisters, it wasn't fully utilized as VIIR was still too easy. While it was fun to optimize your strategy, it wasn't necessary to win, you could get by just spamming attacks.
VIIR as a whole sort of felt like a tech demo for greater things to come, testing the waters with lots of quality of life improvements and great combat additions, but not really taking full advantage of its innovations. 5 years later and still no game that expands upon that system... Maybe some day.
Hopefully they can come back with a better entry next time.

Fully agreed. VII and VIIR felt like they finally got the hang of how to create a good Neptunia game. The future looked bright. But there was no successor and to this day the fans are still waiting for an actual "Neptunia 5". SvS' gameplay feels rushed, while doing some long combos can be fun, the action gameplay feels shallow and the game is too easy. It's strange how the devs don't manage to build upon VII's solid base.
I hate how more than 50% of the story parts of the game isn't fully voiced. Guess they were very cheap this time
30fps. Is surprising. The last one I played was VIIR, which ran at 60fps on ps4, which was a remake of VII that ran on their old engine .I'm worried how it will run on my ps4 pro 😕.
Admittedly it may have defaulted to visual mode instead of performance, but there wasn't a prompt for either so this is what the game gave me.

Thank you for the honest review. I've been a fan of the series till the last few games after VII where the quality was extremely lacking. It did hurt to hear about the 30 FPS on the PS5 version and the slow combat. Letting me know that once again they release another game that is not an improvement of it's predecessor. It's nice that it finally has English voice acting and a good story, but it can only go so far that I'll only get this for $10 or under, since I'm mainly looking for gameplay nowadays

I used to play this series on the ps3 now and again on deep sales, because they're fun bargin bin games to me, but the older I've gotten the more the character designs creep me out. Too childlike and cutsey.

I'm not going to make accusations, but did you even finish the game before reviewing it?
You wouldn't believe the amount of people that get upset about spoiling things that aren't even spoilers. I try to only use footage from the beginning of games in my reviews to prevent that.

I greatly enjoyed Rebirth 1 at the time but after all this time I wish the series got a killer of a game but it doesn't look like it's happening.

For what I heard many people said Neptunia series was supposed to be niche. It was quite enjoyable or bad, so it doesn't matter. I enjoyed 4GO. My first Neptunia game is RB3 then started RB1, the RB1 is a good start. The RB2 is a retcon. The mainline or spin-off can be enjoyable or not.
I heard the Senran Kagura spin-off game was pretty good!
Even as a Neptunia fan I have to say, it blows my mind how awful this game is.

I haven't gotten far in sister's, but I am a Neptunia geek. I own at least 1 version of each game physically. I just love the franchise 😊
It's Idea Factory... all their games are like this. They are niche and finding them physical is nice because they tend to get scarce and go up in price. But you can get them cheap digitally on sale as Super Neptunia RPG was just $8 a couple of weeks ago.
Damn really I missed out then I still need to buy that one I wish I knew it was on sale so far I have re verse,VII, 4 goddess online, virtual stars, neptunian x senran kagura, I'm planning on getting a vita in the future for rebirth 2 and 3

Such a shame hearing about the controls, the gameplay on Neptunia X Senran Kagura was responsive and fun, maybe I'll get it on a sale because I love Uni.

@@TheGamingShelf After getting it on PC I gotta say I don't feel any of the jank you commented (outside of not being able to cancel attacks anyway), it even runs at 60fps too, I hope they update the ps5 version then.
@@TheGamingShelfTamsoft coded all of the Action games From U, Blanc VS Zombies, 4GO and the crossover. That's why the maker character for the studio appears the the last 3 titles in some form. Super RPG was made by Artisen and she appears in. The game.
@@TheGamingShelf Marvy is a Maker character in the First 3 Games and the Rebirth remakes of them for Vita and Steam. She's a Pallet swap of Auska from SK and in Japanese audio shares a Voice Actress. Noire also cosplays as other roles her Japanese actress plays.

Oh yes! Thanks so much I'll buy this in the future then! Really enjoy the English VAs in the IF/CH games and it's annoying when for long stretches the main story do not get English Voices. I will have to live with the bad camera and controls then.

You're guys don't get we're not playing these games for the Gameplay. We play them for the Jokes and Memes
You know what they need for this Neptunia game franchise, someone else to buy it and develop games for it, the developers of Nier Automata could essentially make neptunia series REALLY good with the anime style colours and characters. Even Namco can do better job and be like a Tales of Neptunia game lol.

Haha, so it's a traditional Neptunia game. Yeah, there are some gems in the franchise, like the Noire tactics game, but that is beyond rare. Neptunia is to Japan, as CoDs/WWE 2ks/Ass Creeds for the West. Also, that running animation, wtf? That's reason alone not to play it.
That shows you never try this game.

I gauged some interest in trying the Neptunia games but I changed my mind after watching gameplay videos.
The battle systems (both action and turn based) are look so janky.

I played all the othe rneptunia games except this one cuz I haven't had time, and I also think this works better as an anime and movies, but I think its time for a reboot on this series, and bring in some better writing and animetors, and get some more crazy humor,
Regardless of how good or bad the game is compiled, Heart still makes their cash 💸 & they still do so well to come out with newer games as the year progress. It's different Strokes for Different folks. Compiled Heart knows its audience. 😉

As a noob to the Neptunia games, which ones is the best to start with?
Honestly I've only played a few myself, but I think Neptunia ReVerse is probably the best choice. It's a remake of the first game and has more quality of life features.

I'm part of their audience, big fan, I even got figurines of Neptune at home, but there something you seem to misunderstand. NOT every fan will buy their product with their eyes closed.
I'm capable to admit when a game is shit or not and just because it's from a licence that I like doesn't mean i'll like all of their game. They should have sticked to turn based combat and funny stories, I'm not interested by spin off with shitty gameplay.
