It came out in 75, but MTV became extremely popular late 80’s into the 90’s. So they made this video at this time. The song “Walk this way” is on the same album and RunDMC did a remix of the song with Stephen Tyler screaming the chorus…both versions were great and one of the first collaborations between rap and rock…
That collab was the first time I ever heard Hip Hop, because it played on the rock channel my mom listened to. And at 11-years old, I listened to what my mom did.
Bear in mind not only one of the earliest collabs, but Run DMC stated they felt _Walk This Way_ to be an early example of rap. I love how musical influences spread and cross boundaries, it gives us such great material to enjoy.
This video kinda ruined this song for me, which is why I don’t like watching videos unless it’s just the band playing. I want to FEEL the emotion of the song not some cheesy video based on a someone else’s perception of the song.
Aerosmith has so many good songs from all decades! Rag Doll, Love in an elevator, Janies got a gun, Dude looks like a lady, Angel, ....Definitely continue down this rabbithole!
I love Dude Looks Like A Lady! You should have seen the look on my cousin's face the first time she heard me playing it. It was hilarious. She actually climbed over me to see what the song title on my laptop was. I was so bewildered. It was just a Aerosmith song. I'd been listening to them my entire life. Oh yeah good stuff, best album Toys in the Attic. Love it and good memories. Thanks BP My brother introduced me to Aerosmith, he was 4 yrs older than me. Listen to Adam's Apple (might say r rated). My Brother passed away when he was about 25 or 26 yrs old, he had a wife and a new baby who was about 3-4 months old. He was having a good day then fell from 2nd floor construction head first. So music from the 70's bring him back to me. Your joy in it is joy for him to me.
They released a 3 Disc compilation of their older stuff, B-Sides and rarities called Pandora's Box in 1991 so they made a music video for one of their biggest hits from the 70s for promotional purposes.
I saw Aerosmith for the first time in 1972 at the Surf Ballroom in Hull MA for $5.00 dollars. I became an instant fan of the band. I'm now 70 years old and own most of their albums. The one I go to the most is their second album, Get Your Wings. In my opinion, this is their best album. My second choice would be Toys in the Attic.
MTV era plain and simple. They have put out a video 15 years later to catch the MTV wave. That was a big part of their comeback since they were almost done at some point. Im surprise that my dude here did not even make a deduction since he was raised on MTV time
"You can't catch me, because the rabbit done died'. The 'rabbit test' was an early pregnancy test and the rabbit dying was a positive pregnancy indicator. Second, I was a department manager in the 90s. We had some fools calling the X line from the work phones and had some large bill like that. A couple of guys were fired over it.
I went to the Aerosmith gig at Fenway Park on Sept 13, 2022. Turns out it was their last gig in Boston. They closed the show with "Sweet Emotion". And it absolutely rocked the house! Long live The Bad Boys From Boston - Aerosmith!
The starting song of Dazed and Confused. One of the better stoner highschool films and with a smashing song list. Memories, man. Alright, alright, alright! That film is also set in the '70s, but made after this video was. It's all confusing, I get it.
when it comes to 70s music never look up a music video, just look up the audio, because if theres a video its more than likely a later rerecording or a fanmade video that detracts from the actual music, some exceptions to this rule though are meatloaf, and queen, i think pink floyd made promo videos with some cool artwork too
March 1975. Toys in the Attic is on the streets. Aerosmith, Rush, and (oddly) James Gang play the Fort Wayne Memorial Coliseum. This song, the rest of Toys, plus Dream On, Train Kept a Rollin’ . . . Insanity.
A couple of days after Aerosmith’s first album came out, my best friend played it for me on a portable. Tape player in the public park. A younger schoolmate overheard it (Train Keeps a Rollin) and asked who it was. Ron said, “ it’s us”. Surprised ,the kid said “ you guys are pretty good”. Neither one of us played an instrument or could carry a tune, but for a couple of days at least, we were Aerosmith in this guy’s head.
Start with the most fluid, grooving bass line ever, drop in a sick, SICK beat, follow it with riff 1, then riff 2, rinse and repeat through to the outro solo and you have one of the 5 greatest rock songs of all time. FORTY NINE YEARS later, this thing still blows my mind.
I'm turning 77 next week, really like your reactions to all that you listen to. grew up to a lot of aerosmith, never enough. keep doing what you are doing. keep listening to those old bands!
You could relate to Back in the Saddle. Music from the day was so amazing. We are glad you have found it, and we enjoy you sharing your reactions. It brings back the "good ole days". ✌
Just like piano man by Billy Joel. That song came out in 72. The video came out in 84... Bands wanted to capitalize on Mtv and made videos for their older hits... Especially after the success of Run DMC's Walk this Way another hit from the 70s
the music video was from 1990 or 91. this was made to promote their box set "Pandora's Box" at the time. the song itself was originally on the Album Toys In The Attic. release in 1975 also the song is featured in the movie Dazed and Confused.
I remember my son bought Pump and told me I had to hear this great new band. lol He played it for me and I told him they were not new. I was listening to them when I was his age. He looked at me like I was nuts. I walked over to a crate and pulled out all of their original albums. Told him to dust off the turntable and check out their earlier work.
This is the best Aerosmith song because Tom Hamilton on bass and Joey Kramer on drums anchor this song like none of the others. The minute you hear Hamilton's bass line at the start, you know which song it is and what you're getting.
I was 13 when I first heard Aerosmith in 1974. It was Mama Kin from their first album. Helped mold me as a young man. But so did Kiss, so what do I know.
This song is consider a legacy song by Aerosmith along with a few others. Original release in May 1975. The original was remastered and re-released in 1991 in coordination with (But not part of) the Pandora's Box Set. The 1991 video was produced to promote the new release.

FUN FACT: There weren’t any maracas in the studio when the band recorded this song, so Tyler shook sugar packets instead. That’s what you’re hearing here on the finished track! ✌🏼😂
Their originals were written in 70s mostly about their experiences on the road doing gigs. This one about "backstage"/road s_x experiences that were common for rock bands. Dude Look Like a Lady came from road life experience. So alot of their 70s tunes translated well into 80s/90s music videos...and still would today imo cause some things never change.
The guy is about to Bop! Not all new groups did videos in the 70s. But many of them went back later (like this) and made videos of the earlier release songs.
In the late ‘80s Run DMC did a cover of Aerosmith’s Walk this Way. With Aerosmith performing with them. This brought a resurgence of the band and a lot of the older bands started creating videos for MTV
Aerosmith has just reunited and were making a big comeback around the same time as MTV was at its most popular, late 80's through the 90's and Aerosmith embraced it making a bunch of videos, mostly from their new songs but they also did this one and took part in Run DMC's video for their version of Walk This Way
Classic Rock all the way!!! No videos back in the day. Absolutely no distractions from the SOUND!!!! We listened to the music. We didn't WATCH it unless it was in a live concert.
This video was put together when they released their 1991 Boxed set, "Pandora's Box", and rereleased as a single to promote it. Hilarious ending to a great video! Those 976/900 lines were big business back in the 90s. But kids didn't understand they were something like $5/minute! And they billed it directly to the phone bill, so mom & dad got a big surprise when the phone bill arrived!
A lot of songs were redone for videos after MTV came out in the 80s so this was one of those songs that was a 70s song but to bring it back to life they made a video and put it out on MTV
"Sweet Emotion" was first released in 1975 as the first single from the band's breakthrough smash album "Toys in the Attic" Like other Aerosmith songs it came back as part of movie soundtracks. Since Aerosmith made a comeback in the 80s, they revamped the medium into the current music video trend. This particular song was used as the opening music for the 1993 film "Dazed and Confused", the ending credits for the 2004 film "Starsky and Hutch", as well as on the soundtrack to the 1998 film "Armageddon". "Toys in the Attic" is one of the best albums to come out in the 1970s. Every track is worth a listen. One you won't hear often (and the title is deceptive but does indicate why) is Track #5, "Big Ten Inch". I highly recommend this song just for its signature old uptempo swing/blues type vibe.
Yes, this song and album came out in 1975. I bought it and remember rattling the windows in the house when I came home with it. Same album that Big 10 Inch was on.
BP Aerosmith recently announced that they are retiring from touring because of voice of Steven Tyler. Tyler's voice was slowly going out. He doesn't want to ruin it without damaging it more. Plus, all the members of Aerosmith are in their 70's. But I just read that founding member of Aerosmith, Joe Perry, one of the guitarists stated that Aerosmith might record new music.
We didn’t have videos back in the day. Every song from the 70’s evokes a memory of what we were doing at the time… Friends having a great time. Laying out at the pool listening on a transistor radio.
This was a re-release of their Greatest Hits. IIRC. So they did a new updated video. Aerosmith was the first band I purchased my own ticket to see in concert. It was their Back In The Saddle tour. Black N Blue opened. Orange Pavillion in San Bernardino, CA. I was 13. That is still my favorite venue. The parties before in the parking lot were epic.
In the late seventies, this was my favorite Aerosmith song to cruise around on. Pop that cassette in, turn on the 100 watt amp and jam the home speakers in the trunk of my VW Rabbit Diesel. I was the weird geek listening to Kraftwerk, Alan Parsons Project, Pink Floyd and yes, Aerosmith. Good times. This was well before music videos. 🖖🏼
The video pays homage to the movie " Risky Business " The boy talking to the woman are almost identical to the scenes in the film of Tom Cruise 's character talking on the phone to the call girl.
The intro is Steven Tyler using a voice box (new 1970s technology). He’s saying “Mia” ( his new born daughter, who’s 50 now) and “Joey” (Joey Kramer, the drummer)
This was on the album Toys In The Attic. Another great album was Aerosmith Rocks. Two great albums. Check them out during your personal time. You will love them.
"Sweet Emotion" was written by Bassist Tom Hamilton and Steven Tyler, and is one of Aerosmith's most popular songs overall. More 70's era A-smith please. "Somebody", "Lord Of The Thighs", "S.O.S. (Too Bad)", "No More No More", "Adam's Apple", "Back In The Saddle", "Rats In The Cellar", "Combination". Thanks.

Please no. Stick to the 70’s
This is one song that never gets old, no matter how many times I hear it
Love Steven Tyler's voice. So unique. ❤
I always feel like Aerosmith get your wings entire album is a good starter for people to hear their classic rock
There was no MTV when the songs were released...so vids released later and so blessed to have seen Aerosmith on multiple occasions
Yes, this song and album came out in 1975. I bought it and remember rattling the windows in the house when I came home with it. Same album that Big 10 Inch was on.
BP
Aerosmith recently announced that they are retiring from touring because of voice of Steven Tyler.
Every song from the 70’s evokes a memory of what we were doing at the time…
Friends having a great time.
Mama Kin of their 1st album, No More No More off Toys In The Attic (2nd album)
In the late seventies, this was my favorite Aerosmith song to cruise around on. Pop that cassette in, turn on the 100 watt amp and jam the home speakers in the trunk of my VW Rabbit Diesel. I was the weird geek listening to Kraftwerk, Alan Parsons Project, Pink Floyd and yes, Aerosmith. Good times. This was well before music videos. 🖖🏼
1975 young man I was 13 when it came out killer album it came off Toys in the attic whole album fire kicked major ass
Love their songs Angel and Jaded
This is the aerosmith i liked. Real message in that video.
Train Kept A Rollin and Back in the Saddle Again are 2 bangers.
Anything off their "Toys In The Attic" & "Rocks" albums are freakin' rock n roll masterpieces. This song is FIRE!!
The video pays homage to the movie " Risky Business " The boy talking to the woman are almost identical to the scenes in the film of Tom Cruise 's character talking on the phone to the call girl.
Released in 1975…huge hit!
Resurrected for the video…huge hit!
The brilliance of Steven Tyler
The intro is Steven Tyler using a voice box (new 1970s technology). He’s saying “Mia” ( his new born daughter, who’s 50 now) and “Joey” (Joey Kramer, the drummer)
This was on the album Toys In The Attic. Another great album was Aerosmith Rocks. Two great albums. Check them out during your personal time. You will love them.
Aerosmith released a 4 CD box set of early & rare tracks in 1990 and rereleased Sweet Emotion and made the video for MTV to promote it.
70's Aerosmith. "Come together" (music video, cover of the beatles)
Thanks.
