      Just finished watching the review. It's pretty good. Thanks for doing it. A big selling point of the system is the Intel P series processors, which are rated are 28W compared to the U series, rated at 15W, used in other thin and light laptops. To cool that beefy processor and keep the laptop thin, the F row and headphone jack had to be compromised. Linus mentioned that on his video about the XPS 13 plus.

    The webcam on this laptop, although 720p is not bad and it is true that Dell has improved it from last year's model. The internal mic quality is also not bad and will get the job done. The lack of sufficient ports on it is definitely a letdown, however. All and all, not a bad laptop for a student or someone working from home! Awesome review Andrew!! 👍😁

    ***Suggestion for your full review: I heard that you can not turn off the backlight of the function capacitive row. IT's always on. See if you can find a way to do it in settings or bios, because that would be distracting in a dark room when your watching netflix or youtube videos. Or even just regular use.

    Hey Andrew, as always, great video man. Always love the content. I received mine on the 17th but my screen fell out! No, that’s NOT a typo; I was doing a video to post the unboxing and as I lifted the lid, the screen was barely tapped with double-sided tape and barely holding on for dear life. I’m sure once the china Covid restrictions finally lifted, they had to rush a bunch of these out (mine took 2 months). I’d love to send you pics to see it

    A word of caution....I sent my first one back to DELL because it had a lot of bugs in the operating system. Right before the replacement came for the heck of it I totally reset and then reinstalled Windows 11 and that fixed it but with the replacement almost at my door I just went ahead and sent the first one back, just in case. If you buy one of these and you are having wonky operational issues first reset it fully and reinstall a fresh Windows 11. By the way, the replacement XPS 13 Plus took a few hours to get up to speed with all of the updates that were literally stacked up but finally I got it up to date and it's working quite well. I got the i7 1260P 16GB RAM 512 GB SSD OLED 3.5K version in platinum.

    I have one with the specs maxed out, 1280p + 32 GB RAM. I love it, its exactly what I wanted but....it gets far too hot, its not gonna last. If you hook it up to a second monitor and watch video streams it gets VERY hot. Constantly spikes to over 100C, hovers in the 80-85 C range. For context I keep my house at 70 F at all times, its on a wooden desk with no obstructions to the intakes or exhausts. They are sending me a replacement but I believe this to be a design flaw, there's not enough heat dissipation and the monitor has a flap that covers the rear exhaust. The bottom of the metal chassis gets hot enough to burn skin.

    • @stephenwouw8624
      @stephenwouw8624 2 роки тому

      Well it’s the limitations of the intel chips. It just gets hot. I have a 9370 from 2018 and not connecting it to external displays it has been running cool for pretty much till the end of the warranty. Then it came with windows update that made the fans run harder, and I’m not doing all that much on it when working, not even extensive excel data sheets. Bluetooth stops working with each iteration of windows update. And I demand that at least the Bluetooth works, I fly a lot and like to work during flights. I need to watch seminar videos too, so pairing with a headphone was essential.
      I like the design, apart from battery issues and fan issues I’ve had, these days the laptop gets too hot.
      I reckon this is an intel issue, and windows comes with its own set of issues.
      If only an XPS was able to run without both intel and windows it would make things much better.

      Thanks for the lovely initial review Andrew! Do you think that setting the 3.5K OLED screen to present only 1080p resolution when working on the road will get more battery? (or anyway it'll consume more or less the same amount of battery?)

    • @lolato2
      @lolato2 2 роки тому

      @@ItayFlikier Unfortunately, it does NOT make any difference if you change the screen resolution in Windows (I wish it did). Because actually the screen itself will still have the same amount of physical pixels (around 7M pixels for the 3.5K screen). I wish Dell kept the QHD screen resolution they had in previous XPS (similar to MacBook's resolution), because it consumes a bit less battery, and still look great (in a 13" laptop, it's very difficult to tell whether it's QHD or UHD resolution... small screen to notice the difference). I have a FHD XPS, a 3.5K OLED and a 4K, the FHD lasts about 2h longer than the latter ones. I'm curious to see how XPS 13 9315 will perform (battery life), as it has the 12th Intel Gen from the "U" family (15W power, as opposed to the 12th Gen "P" family that come with XPS Plus 9320).

      @lolato2 2 роки тому +1

      @@ItayFlikier That's a very nice question/point. Actually that was my hope when I first ordered my first XPS 13 9310 OLED (that using dark mode in Windows and Apps would have a great impact, as black is real black in OLED, which means those pixels are supposedly off and not draining battery). My experience though, unfortunately, was not so positive, I couldn't notice a significant change when using dark mode (still the battery lasted the same average of 3h30 to 5h00 in 50% brightness, varying only depending on how heavy I as using the laptop, and not much related to dark mode itself). But if the apps you use in dark mode has a greater screen area of dark/black (like Microsoft Word), I assume that it might have a greater/positive impact in battery life.

    This is an excellent laptop for an airplane traveler. It is light and portable. It is definitely not for use as a day to day fully functioning laptop. Only one available USB-C port when plugged in. One has to play around with dongles for USB-A and headset connection. Clumsy way to do it. Also no SD slot is a minus. The 720p camera might be better than last year's model but it is still mediocre. For what one is paying for this a 1080p camera should be the minimum. No excuse Dell. The microphones were okay and clear sounding. I noticed that in general on all the XPS computers you reviewed for 2022 the microphones have generally improved, including this XPS 13 inch class here. As far as the physical colors of this PC it looks like another gray laptop. Viewers should realize that this probably looks better when having this laptop in your hands than seeing it on a video. Probably some of the beauty of the colors get lost in the translation when having it live in front of you versus seeing it on a video. As always another great "First Looks" review. I also like the fact I can expand the storage later on if I want to. And I am a big fan of touch displays as well. The downside of course is the lack of ports. But having two TB4 ports is versatile enough for docks etc..I anticipate the M2 Air to have better battery life and run cooler. Just a note, if you are a gamer, then stay away from the M2 Air. Awesome review. I had almost discarded this laptop as a potential replacement for my old Lenovo until your video. A couple of questions what does the glass base feel like, is it similar to the OG white XPS13? Also I have always liked matte screens as I hate glare but wondered what your thoughts were on the OLED anti glare screen from that perspective, it did look gorgeous in your video?
    Finally I have to ask again was the recently announce 9315 or the 2 in 1 the mysterious laptop you were allowed to show in that past video I think from CES?

    • @andrewmarcdavid

      Thanks! The glass base is comfortable at least for me as I have not found it uncomfortable when I rest my wrists on it. The display is glossy but has a anti-reflect layer on it to reduce glare and reflections and does a decent job at that. The OLED display is stunning, It is bright sharp and crisp. Great coverage of the color gamut and extremely color accurate.

      There is no question this is a radical design compared to most laptops. That being said, the lack of audio jack is not an issue for me as I moved to Bluetooth years ago. But it would have been nice if Dell retained the microSD card reader and added a USB-A port.

    I just want to warn those that, just like me, as soon as received the XPS 13 Plus wanted to do a clean install of Win 11 (in order to get rid of Dell's useless native software and many windows partitions): I just did it, and to my surprise, win 11 installation still doesn't recognize Killer 1675 (AX211) network card drivers.. To make it worse, win 11 doesn't allow you to move on with installation if you don't connect to a wifi network... I got stuck there until looking for workarounds.. First I tried to copy Intel's drivers in the USB flash drive and then use Shift + F10 to go to Command Prompt during installation. Didn't work.. Until I found another workaround which was to bypass this network connection... It took me a while to figure it out.

    What I REALLY like about this laptop is the special keyboard and non-visible touchpad design along with the overall simple and elegant design of XPS series.
    What I don't like though...first and foremost is what in my opinion is the absurd pricing. With 2k $ you can get a full spec Alienware X 14 with intel 12700H, Nvidia RTX 3060, 144 Hz screen (though not OLED), etc. And especially comparing with laptops of similar purpose like Asus's new Zenbook S 13 OLED, it misses many of their features though it does have some features of its own and much better design in my opinion.
    Another thing is that there is no AMD 6800u option. In my personal opinion, having an AMD option is a must for efficiency-oriented laptops without a dedicated gpu. Even at the cost of a slightly lower cpu performance, the much higher igpu performance and better power efficiency makes it a great option for this laptop and with a seemingly better cooling system than Asus Zenbook S 13 OLED, it will be a much more solid competitor and an obvious winner in my book if priced somewhat (like 200-300$) lower.
