I remember my first play through, every time I took my cyclops through the river, he would attack me, one time, I got kinda stuck and ran outta power, not wanting my cyclops to blow up, I boarded my prawn to draw him away, and fought that fucker for like 15 minutes, it was awesome, now no lost river ghost leviathan
There is only one leviathan I kill in every playthrough. It's a reaper. Specifically, it's the one by the Aurora's engines. You know the one. The one that's jumpscared literally everyone at least once. See, playing around in creative taught me some things. Thing 1: everything is as hostile as every in creative, they just can't bite or grapple you. Thing 2: because they can't bite or grapple, they don't play hostile noises or animations when following you around. Thing 3: the absolute bastard hanging out by the Aurora's engines is programmed different from all others. I _was_ using creative mode to explore the plateau thoroughly, categorizing everywhere one can fit a multipurpose room, seeking out cool base locations. There is a little patch of kelp forest between the crash zone and the nearby red grass zone. I was poking around and trying to jam a room into a canyon when a familiar shadow appeared and I whipped around and had a heart attack as a reaper screamed in my face from 3 meters away. But of course, I was in creative, so I knew it could't attack me, and my immediate response was irritation. Then it became curiosity. See, I didn't know how animal aggression in this game worked until I popped on creative. I had already been futzing around near some reapers before this big bastard, I knew they were harmless, I knew they didn't act hostile, and I knew something was up here. So I spent a couple hours testing, and boy what I learned! See, that reaper is special. Every leviathan in the game has a detection radius, and a space I would term their territory, the space where they spend eternity just flopping around. If you enter their territory, you're guaranteed to cop an attack. If you're outside their territory, you _might_ get chased if they hear or see you inside their detection radius. All animals in Subnautica have different amounts of aggression too. So the reaper in question is a dev trick. They want you afraid of leviathans. They want you traumatized and avoiding them wherever possible. So, they made the most common surface leviathan the reaper, and gave it a nice long grapple animation so it can stare you in the eyes while it roars and tries to kill you. This alone would be enough to discourage plenty of people, but the one by the engines is special. It has a massively expanded territory, and it's highly aggressive. The absolute moment you put a toe out of line, it's gonna find you and attack. Even in creative. So, yeah. I kill that thing every time. Because I don't want to deal with it's special different rules.
Actually that part about increased aggression makes sense, although wether that is the case because of increased radius or because I discovered while playing hardcore, I don’t know
At the start I was not sure you could achieve all the goals in just 100 days, but you made it just in time! Thank you very much for this video. It was a great reminder of how good Subnautica is.

this seems like a fun challenge which I could do myself, with two simple (arguably more difficult) changes: replacing the Cuddlefish egg challenge with a complete Alien Containment catalog challenge and the leviathan slaying challenge with a complete databank challenge.
So you have to scan every creature and plant?,Along with finding at least 1 of every egg and catchable fish and putting them in the alien containment?.
18:00 I just got a MK3 module for my seamoth, went down, got all the nickel and sulfur I needed for BOTH MK1 and Jump Jet Upgrade mods for the prawn and then went up, no cyclops or base needed. There is no "right way" of playing subnautica, we all have different playstyles and it doesnt matter if you played it "wrong" because we progress in our own ways
I feel like subnautica is a game where I can start a new world and not really feel like progress has been lost because after you know where everything is, you can get a lot of things back fast. I personally think that this makes the game more fun.

I started a new playthrough while watching this, just so happened that your showdown with the reaper began right about when I reached the front of the Aurora.
On my switch edition save, I used the prawn suit equipped with the grapple arm and drill arm to, quite literally, drill an adult ghost leviathan to death in the void. It's actually easier than you think. But I haven't killed a reaper or sea dragon yet lol
How a great video like this only has 52 coments and less than 1000 likes? While watching this video I discovered much things I didn't knew such as on hardcore mode its easier to find resources (or maybe its because you are on pc, I play on console)
As hard as it is for me to admit, i think some ppl just didnt watch this because they got bored, i mean, basically nothing went wrong, ig it’s like reading a book with no antagonist, sure the leviathans can be labeled as antagonists, but it seemed to be such an easy hurdle to overcome
I've played through twice in hardcore. The 2nd time, I chose to limit myself to vehicles only - no base building. I could still craft and use the habitat builder, but I could only use it inside the Cyclops. The toughest part was not having access to the vehicle modification bay.
@user-no2ev3po2x Well, I didn't use the Seamoth much, and I focused on getting the Cyclops as soon as possible. I also had to conserve power until I could get the thermal generator for the Cyclops.
Nice start! Now can you do it: 1. As a vegan run, meaning no filtered water OR edible fish 2. No usage of the Builder tool 3. Killing an ADULT Ghost Leviathan rather than a mere juvenile?
24:00 Just use the scanner room and go around the Kelp Forest, picking up their teeth. By far the easiest way I found to get it and now I have an abundance of it
