Well done. My breath was, in fact, taken. Side note: the uniform muscle development line from the PDA is so funny. I used to surf so much, my back got over-developed, and would constantly feel like I had pins and needles in it.
I’ve long known about the base lag issue, but I never realized how bad it actually is. Like I really want to crack open the source code to figure out why it’s so bad and if it could be fixed. If you have 3 hallways connected then removed the middle it should be the same grid but different bases, but the game only seems to care about the grid and not what’s connected. Something has to be going horribly wrong for destroyed pieces to continue contributing to lag, the bigger pieces being laggier makes me think it’s adding a bunch of positions to a list (big pieces having more positions) and never removing the positions from the list. The fact that there isn’t a mod that just outright fixes it is insane to me cause it’s a unity game, hilariously easy to mod requiring no built-in support, and you can just look at the source code completely.

You have to spend OVER 2 HOURS searching the entire structure for that one leak (I know by experience as a full void tube builder in suvrival) [the backrooms of the reinforcement silos is infinite and unforgiving]
If you use the Building Tweaks mod, you can start a base on an angle if you start by placing a Vertical Connecter. Given this fact, the longest straight-lined base possible is about 32,768 meters in length. You'd have to bore through the crater to do it, however, as it occupies 0, 0, 0. One nice thing though is that (I believe) Vertical Connecters have to run less checks than other base pieces, meaning that base lag will be less.
@@Breathtaker5000thats pretty-much what it is...youd basically have to deconstruct the ENTIRE base before it 'forgets' where things lined up on the Base Grid...any time a new base piece 'snaps' into place, its on your Base Grid...the game gets laggy when it has to keep a lot of Grid data in memory, whether or not that section is Occupied by a Base Piece... even if someone's not Sitting in the chair, it still has to remember that there Was a chair there...if that makes sense...

There are so many more efficient ways to do this. Bytepatch the game's binary to skip the operations it does when new base parts are placed. It lags so damn hard you don't even need to reverse engineer anything, just get it to lag, pause execution in your debugger, you'll find the game thread in most likely a huge loop, bytepatch those operations out. Otherwise you could spawn the base from a mod you make yourself, or even edit your save file, the former requiring learning the modding system and the latter requiring reverse engineering.

That's not the longest base ever tho, you can extend it in a snake patter throughout the entire map, making it probably 10x longer. I'm just giving you more ideas for suffering lol
Bro I did this too but you had to build separate bases because it would lag for a good minute after you delete/place a new structure so I couldn’t build any more. I built from the bottom of the void all the way to the gun island but it would become too laggy to do anything else, I had like 3 mega bases in between and tried to even build inside of the gun itself
now, instead of making a square base around the perimeter, make one that 'snakes', down one side of the void-limit, two L-Corridors to come all the way Back, then two more Ls to go all the way again... ...for the entire length of the other sides...
