    I used to take ages using the same technique as you when removing paint from polycarbonate, until someone told me this technique. What you do is paint on the paint remover, then cover that with tissue to keep the fumes in ( the fumes adds to the paint removing process). You can add more paint remover to the tissue and soak it in, then leave for a few seconds, and then rub it and it will come off in seconds. It was a game changer for me when I used Carson paint killer. Give it a try

    great vid.. But.. I've used the paint remover on a body too but used a small brush to wet the paint in larger areas. Let it sit for a 20+ seconds and then use a cotton pad (what the misses use to remove make up) to wipe the paint off. Repeat that to really clean the body.
    That goes better.

      Yeah, I found cotton pads to work well too. Had to keep changing the cotton constantly so to reduce spreading the paint about. The cotton wool picked it up well.

    Nitro as well as brake fluid will not have any kind of effect whatsoever if there's any kind of quality polycarbonate paint lime the traxxas spray paint and your just going to be literally pouring money away if you use either of those as paint stripper. Keep the nitro fuel in the tank and brake fluid in the master cylinder and purchase either of these tamiya products if you want to do things the right way! Awesome video and thank you for showing us how well it works

    Yeah I’m liking the look of that with the minimal decals. I stripped an entire original frog shell that had thick brushed on red and blue paint from the 80’s with Tamiya poly cleaner. Used the entire bottle and took about an hour and a half but did a great job. No cracking or cloudiness and then painted it box art.

    Considering the wing: I would have sprayed it firstly in white from either side, doesn't matter. And afterwards sprayed it yellow from both sides. That way you would have had white backing for a very popping yellow from all sides.

    This would probably got a lot faster if you used more liquid. Try soaking a small rag in the paint remover then roughly go over big areas of the body. This will likely remove large amounts of paint quickly. Once you've got the bulk of the paint removed thst way you can go back and detail the missed parts the way you're doing it in the video. It'll probably take a tenth of the time to do it thst way.

    I did this on a shell and I got all the way through. Seemed clear as d food. Sprayed the new colour and found a few bits of paint I hadn't managed to clean off. Just dots of spray but the contrast in colour meant it showed up. I just left it and gave up. Ended up spending as much on cleaner as it would have been to get a new shell nearly so probably won't do it again.

    The second was a King-Cab TBG body that someone had painted terribly. This paint remover made the shell so brittle the wheel arches broke off and I had to throw it away. DO NOT USE ON A TBG BODY. REPEAT, DO NOT USE ON A TBG BODY.

    From experience, nitro fuel is a very safe method of removing standard acrylic paint. It won't make lexan brittle or cloudy. It's probably the second thing I try after standard alcool. However it won't work on PS paint, which is especially designed to resist nitro fuel. For PS paint, you need tamiya PC cleaner or carson paint remover, which is about the same but less expensive. I also had some success with floor cleaning products. Never tried brake fluid but we hear more horror stories about it than people having used it successfully.

    My take on it is this. It takes such a long time to get a shell clean, that it only makes sense if you cannot buy another one. When doing up the price of the remover, cotton and what else have you, I see no point when you also factor in the cost of labour. I could be doing better things with my time that would make my life easier and save money elsewhere, so I don't see the point unless you cannot get a new shell.

    So after painting my first shell in pearl white the dreaded black black bumpers got underneath the masking so have just ordered this combo to rescue the expensive shell.

      @@TAMIYALegends yeah really good it just clouds the back side but when you paint it ,it doesn't show on the top side. You can even sand polycarbonate on the inside but when you paint over it it looks shiney on the top.

  • @alanmorris8783
    @alanmorris8783 4 роки тому +2

    I would be tempted to scuff up the inside first to cut through the outside of the paint film, increase surface area and get to the heart of the paint. I would then airbrush sections with the paint cleaner a panel at a time, it should waste less of the cleaner.. Leave it for a while to soften and then come in with the soaked cloth.
    I used to wear socks that day-glo yellow colour to school in the 80’s. 😬
