Usually hitting the wall coincides with real life challenges. If your 100% happy at home, wife is happy, kids are doing well in school, everyone doing great in life then sitting down on a day off to build or wrench on a car becomes a relaxing enjoyable past time. If work is stressfull, wife is annoyed that you are not helping clean the house enough, kids refusing to go to school, home is a tip and arguing about even silly stuff is going on then getting up on a day off as a 48 year old man and telling everyone that im spending the day building what is essentually a toy car (I know I know, toys they are not) becomes just as stupid as it sounds. With any hobby you really have to have the life prioritys in place to fully enjoy.
So right. My wife and i have spent years converting a barn into our family home. Its hard work and takes up alot of our time. Because of this we find it hard to switch off, so when we do, maybe go out, see friends, do RCs etc theres always that nagging voice in the back of your head making you feel guilty. Its all about getting the balance right i suppose.
20 years ago by. People take advantage of you. You loose all sense of purpose cause People die all around you and there's nobody worth showing to left any more. It becomes just you impressing yourself. Then you start getting injuries and such and you fast run out of life for yourself. Community gets destroyed all around you. Suburbs becomes just business. Nothing makes any sense any more. You spend the rest of your life talking to young kids and you find yourself being disrespected 24/7. You eventually realise you've been WHIPPED by work and slave drivers and you MUST STOP getting exploited all the time.
Nice to see you again! Lol The hobby is always secondary to life. There are sometimes that I am desperate to get in my hobby room and other times I couldn’t care less about being in there. Is what it is. We all have our up and downs.
Any video you make puts a smile on my face, regardless of the topic. Its your genuine persona, straight forward, no bs friendly unpretentious personality that makes it interesting to me. Totally worth waiting for. There's no time limit on friendships. We're just lucky to have you my friend.
Tamiya models come with some wonderful quirks, and huge personality. From the kit to the manual, there's always something to bring an inner smile. _But who wants to hang out with Charlie Sheen every freaking day?_ We get it bro. My advice: Stick an FPV camera in something (I'm doing a pair of T3-01 trikes right now) and experience the hobby from a different angle. Even a bone stock Grasshopper with a panning servo mounted FPV camera is a wild, wild ride. But we all deserve a break - I'm lucky I came across your channel not long ago while doing a King Yellow build - and you've put up enough amazing content to keep me occupied until you get your Tamiya Mojo charged up. Or not, completely up to you, friend!
Great to see you! Do what you feel like. For me I have a illness that keeps me out of the hobby for weeks or months against my will. I always think of rc. Take care and do what do you happy 🙂
Don't force it mate, it's a hobby remember, and should be driven by enthusiasm and pleasure..... That's what makes your videos so genuine and enjoyable to watch. Sometimes it's good to step back for a bit! Also remember the huge back catalogue of content that us subscribers have to watch while nothing new is coming out.... I've been really enjoying going back and watching some of your older content again recently! I to hit a wall this morning..... Only it was a brick wall with my Porsche 959, needles to say the front of the body shell came off worse than the wall! 😂 👍 👍 👍
Ohhh i really know what u mean, a longer break is what most of us need sometimes. Glenn with shutdown back in 2020 i totally lost interest in the hobby, i didn't even watch any RC video until autumn 2023. So i hit the wall really hard. But after i started again i have built 3 cars and upgraded several in my collection.
Love you show Glenn. Always take care of yourself first. Always make it fun for you and not be pressure all the time even if it means to slow down or stop. We can all wait…. I think…… maybe…….. we might go through withdraws….. It’s good to see your doing ok. Always look forward to your shows. Be Well…..
I've hit the wall before too, thats usually when I kind of just look at what I have and enjoy the scenery, then I get back into the swing of things eventually. Take care of yourself man!
Glad you are doing ok. I am in K/W so if you ever need any hobby assistance or just someone to play with cars with... I know you prefer to do your own thing but the offer is out there!
Good to have you back my friend. No pressure is the best policy.. Yr hand seemed to heal quite quickly, thats great.. I had a year off the hobby recently.. Wish I had 30 kits to build! 🙂 Cheers mate Gauranga
The problem with collectibles is sticking to the purist aspect of it can easily ruin it. Try some custom stuff, chop n change, make mad max vehicle with a bb gun or flame thrower, or try another RC type (heliwopters?). Tamiya is a bit basic. The bodys are great, the rest is a bit meh
Glenn you are in no way alone in these feelings for the hobby and definitely in life! Way too much s..t happens and life just sometimes takes over everything! We love ya man just do it in your own way in and in your own time! My wife and l have had a tough year health wise and financial damn everything wise lol and it definitely effects everything and the way we feel everything mate you will emerge from it and it will probably be when that beautiful silver box with that HS2 arrives and the fire will burn strong again 😉😆👍 My friend don't mention the pricks that thumbs down you again! Waste of bloody oxygen buddy👍 Great vid and love the tools! Looking forward to seeing you again and no more apologies about anything! We are just grateful you and other take the time to make these videos and entertain us for free! This isa fantastic hobby and will be there when you feel all is right and balanced again. All the best mate. Cheers James.
Good to see you putting up a Video see that you are Ok. As for wanting a break from doing Tamiya/RC stuff I can completely understand. I have a mostly built Tamiya RC car sitting on my table that I just need to find the energy to fill some unused mounting holes in the body before I can put on a final coat of paint and the decals, normally I would have done it the same day as test assembling the body. So last weekend I charged up a battery back and put my Sand Scorcher in the boot and went for a drive alone the coast, which ended with me taking rc car on Irvine Beach here in Scotland in February. The weather could have been better (still it was above freezing and not actually raining) but I have to say an empty sandy beach and Tamiya Sand Scorcher is a very fun combo which put a very big smile on my face for 30 mins until the battery ran out and I made a quick retreat to my car to warm up again. I am still not feeling like finishing building the other car so I am going to box it up until I do. Still I am now looking forward to spring and trying to work out which of my other car's that normally just lives on a shelf in my home office looking good I can take out and use next. Rather than feeling guilty about buying RC stuff and not getting round to finishing building it. So maybe rather than building stuff you should maybe think about taking one of you car's out for a spin if your hand lets you. Then if you feel like it you can make a video and show us which RC you decided just to take out to have some fun and tell us how you got on.
Well said Sir😎👍🏻 There is nothing quite like running a well built and well behaved SS on paddle tires and a fresh battery at the beach. Quite the meditation in my experience. 👍🏻
Hi Glenn from Yorkshire England some time you have to stop the hobby and life take over don't worry I will still be here when ever you are ready 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻I bought my set tool from Otley model sports make is arrow max 😊
Its a hobby, we all get consumed by other stuff, and thankfully the love of RC seems to pull us back in, Happy Days Glenn from this Aussie in China, and thank you for all you have done!
Not going to lie mate although I don’t know you personally I was worried about you glad to see your ok mint tool kit I’m totally with you will make a great display piece happy RC ing 👍
Oh I totally relate to this. For me, I mix it up, bored with new builds? Go race. Bored of that? I do some buying and selling. Etc etc. I’d love to see you do what a lot of full scale car channels do, find stuff on marketplace, Kijiji, eBay, wheel and deal. Restore, repair etc, sell on again. Anyway, glad that you are doing well, for many of us in our small community you are one of the faces of the hobby, but I hope you can just do what makes you happy.
Mate it's great to hear your all good it's a moment in life you have been through before and got over it we all have mate. Do something that makes you happy find your passion get your mojo back. All the best wishes for you Glenn mate you Legend ❤
I’m right with you Glenn sometimes interest just goes out the window. I really enjoy watching your videos and your builds are always outstanding. Thanks for sharing and keep going. It was watching your videos that got me back into the hobby after a somewhat 30 year layoff!! Best wishes and take care
Good know you are doing well Glenn! When you build the rc10cc kit it would be advantageous to have a 4-40 tap on hand. That plastic is brittle and there are a few scetchy places where I tapped to be safe. The hardware isn't that strong. Good luck with the build!
I’ve felt the same for a few months I like to buy the kits but then they just sit I never thought I would be buying a kit and leaving it in its box Last kit was BBX and a brushless Tamiya motor still fancy the spare wheel but not hurry I finally got Volkswagen Amorack body painted but struggling to be motivated to put decals on it Like you Glenn might be just the things going on in life and uncertainty of work events can just loose interest in the hobby for a while. 😊
It's really good to see you back on UA-cam mate, I think we were all a bit worried about you. Glad to hear that you've got your 'mojo' back, I had the same issue recently, but I raced my 3Racing Cero FW Sport last Thursday and it was awesome. And I'm now getting into RC planes.......🤣🤣
Great to see you back Glenn buddy. I think it's safe to say that most of us can truly relate to hitting the wall. But we know it always passes. Hope your hand continues to heal well, and I look forward to seeing the grasshopper finished. Roll on summer and some running videos.😊
Sir you have my full respect, selfless as ever with your time, allowing us to watch Tamiya videos at our leisure. I jump around in my queue of projects to a crazy level, I refurbished fully some BMXs a decade ago which still do not have the decals on. Nothing to stress about when I take a step back, a guy at work asks me every few years if the decals are on yet😅. Thank you again for the time you put into your videos.
Your a real person- really appreciate putting how your feeling out there to us who definitely care and enjoy your you - I’ve gone through that many times lol - it’s heathy imo - keep rocking buddy we will always be here for you
Great to see you back. Totally understand where you're coming from. I don't know whether the wet miserable gloomy winter we've had here in the UK has anything to do with it, but I've not been 'feeling it' for the hobby the past couple of months either. I've been restricted to winter maintenance on a couple of runners, but even this has seemed more like a chore than something enjoyable. I can only imagine how hard it is to put out weekly videos on top of normal life stuff. Take it easy and have a break if you need it!
Glad to see the video update as I admit I was concerned and targeted burnout or just life getting in the way of life. Cheers Glen, take care and know your missed and supported on your choices.
We watch because we enjoy it , don’t even pander to those thumbs downers. You keep this up and we will keep watching and loving it. If you need a break, take it and we will patiently wait for some more. Good on ya Glen and thanks
Mate, going through this myself. Collecting like mad then all of a sudden just thought "what am I doing?" Lost my passion and a few of my favourites are being re-released too (Hotshot 2 and super sabre). Been 2 months now and just now dipping back in. Sometimes you need a break, no need to make excuses. We are all the same. Swings and Round Abouts.
A bit sad that you have ceased but this business is brutal and not healthy. I always enjoyed what you did and I say thank you for your valuable time. It was inspiring and made me happy. Well, will have to consider other channels as well. Let’s hope RC Kicks will prevail.
That basic Tamiya tool kit I started with also. Great set except over time the hex drives did start to round off at the end. I started cutting the roundedntip back down the shaft to extend the life of the tools. Then I spent the money and got some MIP drivers and they have been rock solid. No rounded tips or wear at all. Now keep the Tamiya set as my on the go set since that case is perfect. Glad the hand is feeling better Glen ! Cheers !
Nothing wrong with taking a break from a hobby. When it becomes more work than fun then you need a break. I get it. Glad to see you back but remember to do whatever makes you happy above all.
I'm into the scale rock crawlers and I hit "the wall" lol 2 years ago, I started the Christmas project which is when I start all my new projects, a Chevy Blazer this time, built the axles and then just wasnt feeling it and now I'm back into it and loving it again. I think even if youre enjoying a hobby or pass time its always good to take a lil break even if its only for a week or 2...
Been in that boat. Left many hobbies due to ... Injury... Life problems.. sickness. But. Months yrs later I come back full swing refreshed. You will too.
Glad to see you back, it’s weird when you can’t be bothered with the thing you normally love and can’t wait to do. I’m the same at the moment too, struggling to finish my Ranger project and really not enjoying doing it, it’s more of a chore!
Glenn, Tamiya still sell the TRF turnbuckle wrench for aluminum turnbuckles and yes, they say TRF on them. They’re the only TRF tool I own and use. Wish I could’ve gotten the standard Tamiya “blue” 4mm wrench but being able to get the actual TRF one is just jewelry.
know the feeling, winter months just seem to be work, eat, survive, sleep as i have got older. starting to feel; a bit of a spark now the days are getting lighter
I totally get it, I have been trying to paint a body for the last 6 weeks, it's half done and I have no interest in going near it right now. Love the tool collection 👍
You know Glenn, we are just human and not robots. I get the questions Luke you only do one or two videos a month. Why? Well I have other responsibilities like my beautiful family and crazy job. Everyone needs break to re adjust ideas. Also I have arthritis so I know you have hand issue now. That is a sign to chill. We all luv you buddy and glad to see you.
I’ve been out of the hobby for a while now as well. Last kit I built was the Super Avante, last year I think. Just haven’t got the urge to start building yet, but I keep buying new kits to have. Thanks for sharing your story.!
Heya Glenn. Just put vids up when you feel like it. No point in getting burnt out. I find that sometimes I think of nothing but my RC's. Other times not at all. It peaks and troughs. I have other interests and sometimes I just need to veg out and rest. We'll all still be here.
I find I hit the winter wall. Way too much snow here, and I have no RC Snowmobile.... Also As a rather tiny RC channel I do struggle with content to keep my awesome Subs content and interested. I agree with the "UA-camr" idea and chasing that, I am with you, I guess I am more interested in following the hobby and growing that... Cheers mate!
So glad to see you back…. Always look after you first Glen as that is most important. This page is the reason we are all poor and want to continue to be as well … the best channel out there !!
Great to see you back, ive hit that wall a couple of times. But its a great feeling when you get the love back, now that the big races have been secured i can start to get new and and old cars ready for battle. The part i acctually the most 😎
Glad you're on the mend. It's funny how it ebbs and flows. I thought after the TRF phase you seemed up for it again but it's funny how these things work out. I've been off tamiya for a bit but built my BBX the other month and that's got me back into it.
Good to see you Glen… always nice to have a break from everything you like doing!!!. It means when you come back it’s even better!!!. Well you certainly have lots to do in the coming months that’s for sure👍👍
Totally get it. I’ve done a video here and there the last couple months but I’ve hit a wall also. That being said, I’m happy that you made a video this morning. I miss my Saturday and Sunday morning videos, as are many I’m sure. Glad you’re doing ok
Awesome to have you back and really sorry to hear about your hand! Looked painful!! Hope it heals quickly and can’t wait for tomorrow’s video over on RCL! 👍👍
It’s good to take a break every now and again. It can be easy to mix up the hobbies with UA-cam and they have to go hand-in-hand. I have probably 10 kits. I need to build, but just don’t have the motivation right now. eventually I will find that spark and jump back in
I was really into building scale crawler trucks but it was really expensive and the group that I was involved with only had events on a day I couldn’t go. Back in the 80’s I just goofed around with RC like a lot of folks. After a lull of a year I’m gearing up for an RC10 40th kit arriving this week
Great to see you climbing that wall I’ve hit it myself lately and this might get me to get a build going? You hit the nail on the head when you said you weren’t even looking at your collection, I’ve been the same. Thanks for sharing it’s good to know it happens to everyone. Good luck up the wall….😆👍👍
I can relate to it but in a different way, as my Tamiya tastes coupled to funds means I have a much more limited range of interest. The TRFs have never floated my boat, but it means at the moment there are not any cars I want (one or two upcoming I could be tempted by), but also my income fluctuates which also affects the hobby. So I haven’t built a car for 5 months or so, and that one was actually a Kyosho. I do pick up my cars and look at them after as they are all in my lounge lol
That's what the capitalists want you to believe. You're wrong. Subconscious minds want ORDER AND REPETITIVE things so they can memorise things. The buying frenzy doesn't lead to happiness. It leads to burnout and confusion and wasting 20 years of your life.
Nice to see you’re ok, I knew I wouldn’t be the only one wondering. It’s so easy to hurt yourself in seemly innocent situations (my middle-aged back will agree!). I also went through a pretty ambivalent period with the hobby, it was actually refreshing and now I’m going back and discovering cool projects tucked away ready to be attacked. And there’s definitely nothing wrong with nerding out about tools and TRF stuff…

Good to see you back look after yourself
I’ve felt the same for a few months I like to buy the kits but then they just sit

The last 20 second, made me laugh LOL I get a lot of thumb down, but I don't know why.
Take all the time you need. People will be here when/if you come back.
A bit sad that you have ceased but this business is brutal and not healthy. I always enjoyed what you did and I say thank you for your valuable time. It was inspiring and made me happy. Well, will have to consider other channels as well. Let’s hope RC Kicks will prevail.
I hit that wall in 2003 havent been back in the RC world since i wanted to get back into it but the prices turned me away lol…
Hitting the wall in the hobby is understandable. It is good to see a new video from you. though.
Glad to see you back, it’s weird when you can’t be bothered with the thing you normally love and can’t wait to do. I’m the same at the moment too, struggling to finish my Ranger project and really not enjoying doing it, it’s more of a chore!
All the best Glenn, sure you will get the Mojo back full on again bud. 🙂
Good to see you again 😊 get well soon 🎉
Glenn, Tamiya still sell the TRF turnbuckle wrench for aluminum turnbuckles and yes, they say TRF on them. They’re the only TRF tool I own and use.
Wish I could’ve gotten the standard Tamiya “blue” 4mm wrench but being able to get the actual TRF one is just jewelry.
Take it easy champ, love the authenticity of your content, anything you put out is a bonus 👍
know the feeling, winter months just seem to be work, eat, survive, sleep as i have got older. starting to feel; a bit of a spark now the days are getting lighter
I totally get it, I have been trying to paint a body for the last 6 weeks, it's half done and I have no interest in going near it right now.
Love the tool collection 👍
Power through, we've all been there, keep up the good work 🥰
You know Glenn, we are just human and not robots.
I only use EDS tools and buy them direct from Japan dirt cheap !
We have plenty of your content to keep us entertained. Hobbies are like that… they wait until you have time and need a break from life.
Rest up mate! Take it easy and its ok to have a break!
The part i acctually the most 😎
Enjoy the rest and heal time ! We'll be here for Tamiya goodness !
Glad you're on the mend. It's funny how it ebbs and flows. I thought after the TRF phase you seemed up for it again but it's funny how these things work out. I've been off tamiya for a bit but built my BBX the other month and that's got me back into it.
Nice to see you back old chap…👍👍👍
Good to see you Glen… always nice to have a break from everything you like doing!!!. It means when you come back it’s even better!!!. Well you certainly have lots to do in the coming months that’s for sure👍👍
It’s always good to have time off Glenn!
That trf turnbuckle tool is used at every race I go to for set up adjustments-
Totally get it. I’ve done a video here and there the last couple months but I’ve hit a wall also. That being said, I’m happy that you made a video this morning. I miss my Saturday and Sunday morning videos, as are many I’m sure. Glad you’re doing ok
Hi Glenn, hope you are ok mate.
Glad you're doing OK Glenn👍
Awesome to have you back and really sorry to hear about your hand! Looked painful!! Hope it heals quickly and can’t wait for tomorrow’s video over on RCL! 👍👍
Sounds like you need a trip to Australia in November to attend the Vintage Bash ....
Where abouts is that mate?
i'm in WA
@@ggilesy Victoria
It’s good to take a break every now and again. It can be easy to mix up the hobbies with UA-cam and they have to go hand-in-hand. I have probably 10 kits. I need to build, but just don’t have the motivation right now. eventually I will find that spark and jump back in
Ive been the same , not touched it for 6 months , 11 kits wailting on a shelf.
Mate, there's only so many cars you can get excited about tbh
nerd out, helps our behavior seam normal!
I feel mix it up at little, I've started racing at club to bring the excitement back, most clubs do Tamiya races👍
So nice to see you back I was getting worried. Do Tamiya make a TRF tool box?
I was really into building scale crawler trucks but it was really expensive and the group that I was involved with only had events on a day I couldn’t go. Back in the 80’s I just goofed around with RC like a lot of folks. After a lull of a year I’m gearing up for an RC10 40th kit arriving this week
I got burned out about 4 years ago and never pulled out my RC Kit since...
Good to see you back Glenn and the hand is getting better 👍 take it easy my friend
Main thing is to enjoy what you have and be proud of accomplishments.
Nice to see you back
Last comment nearly made me spit my wine out😂😂👍🏻
Hi Glenn, glad you're ok and nice to see you're back, like having an old friend back
I go through the same I can go 12-18 months and can’t be bothered. Then I get the itch and build a few out of my stash.
i was into rc planes, lost the enthusiasm too, its been years, still no interest, but i keep the models, maybe i should just sell all of it
I can relate to it but in a different way, as my Tamiya tastes coupled to funds means I have a much more limited range of interest.
Just do what makes you happy when your happy with it. Take care of yourself, my friend
That's what the capitalists want you to believe.
You're wrong.
Subconscious minds want ORDER AND REPETITIVE things so they can memorise things.
The buying frenzy doesn't lead to happiness.
It leads to burnout and confusion and wasting 20 years of your life.
Nice one
Nice to see you’re ok, I knew I wouldn’t be the only one wondering. It’s so easy to hurt yourself in seemly innocent situations (my middle-aged back will agree!). I also went through a pretty ambivalent period with the hobby, it was actually refreshing and now I’m going back and discovering cool projects tucked away ready to be attacked. And there’s definitely nothing wrong with nerding out about tools and TRF stuff…
Glad to see you back mate 😁 I've missed you 😊
Mate I understand. Level's in life. Change, learning...man life. Love the videos brother.
