That and possibly also unchecked off inventory items has banter bugged as well. Something isn't right as companions are damn near SILENT which is so strange considering the mod fix installed.
The loitering at the dalish camp reinforces my suspicions. Banter occurred!!! Enough time passed without the internal timer banter being paused. Current Hypothesis; I think its a combo of the dash mod and opening up the menu to read codexes. Opening the menu may pause the timer and then dashing resets it. So large amounts off map exploration are never given the chance to have banter due to to the timer being paused and reset so often; made worse everytime fast travel occurs. The only way to confirm would be a) stay stationary for a few cycles of banter and time them. Like at the dalish camp. Confirm banter is firing on time if nothing else occurs. b) uninstall the dash mod, don't open the menu and roam while on a timer, don't fast travel. Does banter fire at the same frequency as it did while stationary?

Did anyone else change the color scheme of their companions' outfits to green to match the Inquisition? I always used to do that, it was pretty cool pulling up with the squad color coordinated! 😅
I remember Cole acting really interesting in Exalted Plains in my first playthrough. He would randomly turn invisible, sneak up on hallas and spook them by making himself visible again. Never had that happen again in other playthroughs. Still wondering if it was a random thing or done on purpose.
Commenting half way through, but it's fun to hear you think if it would make sense to play an elf again in DA4. I mean playing an elf is always the right choice :D Elven lore really is the most interesting in my opinion too.
Yes, the Elven religion is very interesting in this game. I'm sure it will be even more so when Dread Wolf comes... or maybe that will make the Chantry more interesting.
Lets hope they don't drop the ball..I want to be excited but Im not because Andromeda excitement then the let down even though some of Andromeda was really good.
Yeah, when Mapo noted it was the Last Supper, I quickly came to the same conclusion. It's a very on-the-nose religious reference... though I'm not sure if that's in a good way, or a bad way, given Inquisition's opinions on religion.
You don't have to run around with a veil-fire torch- you find most times you can lit one right near where you'll need it. Look a bit closer. Your marathon in the Fallow Mire was not needed if you only had tried the other ones. BTW Rhys is the son Wynne got after her love affair with a Templar.
I hear about an elf as the Herald of Andraste because my Hero of Ferelden was an elf and a mage too. My Inquisitor was a dwarf and mostly no one minded - the exception well you'll see.
"I was one of the foremost experts in the Kirkwall Circle" Is not the flex that guy thinks it is. The Kirkwall Circle was a goddamn MESS! Also, don't look up what the Nightmare said to Solas in the Fade. You'll only find spoilers.
1:33:31 It is the difference between modern Elvish and ancient Elvish. When Solus speaks and you don't understand it is because he is speaking ancient Elvish.
I swear that in "All new faded for her" when Solas and spirit of wisdom talk you can get either elven* subs as if you don't understand, or sometimes translated once. It's been a while, but I have this memory in my head. Hm..
The way Fen'Harel was accepted by both the elven gods and the Forgotten Ones (according to Dalish myths) is very similar to Loki from norse mythology, being accepted by both Æsir and giants... and using that acceptance to trick both sides.
Also note that with cole spiritual he's more sure of himself now, so when you leave conversation with "we'll talk later" - he answers with "yes" instead of "how do you know?"
Gday mapo.. I’ve been playing dragon age again.. roughly around the same time as you, I think the running mod you have prevents party banter.. in my game no mods they seem to never shut up.. 😂 but your party is always silent..?
Been waiting for you to get to the exalted plains and prob later, the emerald graves, since you love the elven lore so much 😊 Thanks for another episode!
13:01 If you had the Nobilty Knowledge perk at this point you get a special dialogue option you can use to get his stuff and still keep Sera happy. Though, you still have to pick it before she snaps, lol.
In the Solas quest, about the elvish. Elvish is a "dead" language, not even the dalish speak it fluently. You understood what was said here because you are dalish - any other race would not have gotten the subtitles translated. What was said in the fade is an older dialect so to speak that your character, like so many other dalish, doesn't understand. Solas on the other hand speaks more elven than any other character we've encountered so far. So it makes sense that the Fear demon would mock him in that language. It's a very nice detail. And as someone who don't have way too much free time on her hands what Solas says after the kiss is "I love you, my heart".
MAN I love the story of Fen'harel, what a lil shit (at least from the elves perspectives? Do we know if there's like a "yeah but it didn't happen that way REALLY theory? I always love those)
It’s really interesting to see/hear your thoughts on some of the choices in game. I usually let solas kill the mages - if spirits are people/sentient beings then summoning and binding them to the point where they are so damaged they need to be “euthanized” is basically murder and most of my Inquisitors feel like capital punishment is fair in that case. Though in my current play through I’m doing an andrastian believer and she’s against it.
Sera is such a weird character. When I met her in my first playthrough I went from totally confused ("what the hell is she talking about"), through fairly annoyed ("oh my god please shut up") to almost romancing her. There was some glitch that had broken my romance with Iron Bull, so I tried to start one with Sera, but it didn't work. I did romance her in my second playthrough, when I played an inquisitor much more aligned with her goals and her views. There are a some issues, but I really like the approval system, because it has such an impact on how conversations with your companions go.
My theory is that you can understand what the spirit and Solas is saying because it is basic Elvish. While, the Nightmare demon and Solas were speaking in Ancient Elvish. EDIT: Weird seeig him liking Sera more than Vivienne. Usually you either hate both or like both.
"At this point you're making wine." I actually did a spit take first time I heard that. A moment of silence for the BioWare of yore. We'll not see the likes of them ever again. 😥
I believe they were speaking ancient elven compared to the elven they speak today. So that's why she could understand Solas later on when he spoke to his friend. Cause he was speaking today's stuff instead of Coryfyhshits ancient version.
Something definitely seems bugged about your dialogue imo. I remember getting dialogue way more than you seem to be getting it. I have heard tell that you can trigger more party banter by traveling to areas using the war table instead of the map. I have also heard you need to make sure you have no things marked as new in your journal/items/etc.
Also, as a reminder, Varric isn't suggesting you let Cole kill the man. He's just suggesting you let Cole process his emotions like a human. To confront the man, feel his anger, and get through it.
iirc, the demon that Merrill was bargaining with had been summoned and bound long ago. So someone came along, summoned and bound a spirit, corrupted it into a demon, and then sealed it away, and then X years later, Merrill stumbled across it and was tricked into helping it. Marethari then intervened to save her.
Cool to see you come around on Sera, I figured you would. She’s an interesting character and only truly insufferable when it comes to the elf stuff sometimes imo. I just love the characters in DA. **SPOILER** I love how you noticed the Last Supper similarities in the Inner Circle picture. In hindsight, it’s a somewhat “in your face” spoiler I guess.
Omg every time he thinks he has to bring the SAME veilfire torch halfway across the map, or forgets that he can pick it up if he drops it, it drives me NUTS.
...Sara's story, reactions and dialogs are really fun and interesting. I often come in conflict with myself when have to choose the answers! I love that the Lore is so connected and founded in good explanations. It feels like a "real" ancient world Lore! Interesting I have never really thought deeply about the titles on the gravestone in the Fade quest....I will remember from now on! :) BTW. does anyone know how the game or story react if you don't invite Vivianne to the Inqusition and/or kick Sara out of the Inquisition later. Anyone know??
Question: Do you allow information from the novels, comics, movies and shows? This world has so many huge things in it that the games allude to but never talk about but I don’t want to spoil if you’re planning on reading/watching them yourself.
We can only speculate what kind of a character we may be playing in Dreadwolf, and we don't even have a confirmation that we'd be able to pick the race of our character in the first place. Considering that adding different races to Inquisition delayed the game by a year and they barely made it to their deadline (we almost didn't get to romance Bull as a dwarf, and we can't romance Cullen with either a dwarf or a qunari, purely because they didn't have time to make the cutscenes work), I wouldn't be surprised if they end up locking us to one race or give limited options. _If_ they do give us all the races, I'm pretty sure all of them would be neat to pick for the next game lore-wise, but esp the non-human ones. I'm personally most interested in a qunari, but also torn on dwarves. I'll probably pick a qunari for my first run since I always play a mage first in my DA playthroughs.
Not just Cole. "A spirit becomes a demon when denied its original purpose" applies to Justice as well. He was denied justice, and became Vengeance.

Did anyone else change the color scheme of their companions' outfits to green to match the Inquisition? I always used to do that, it was pretty cool pulling up with the squad color coordinated! 😅
that Solas kiss scene never fails to make me giggle kick my feet
I remember Cole acting really interesting in Exalted Plains in my first playthrough. He would randomly turn invisible, sneak up on hallas and spook them by making himself visible again. Never had that happen again in other playthroughs. Still wondering if it was a random thing or done on purpose.
Thank you for the playthrough, it's a pleasure share the love for the series.
I've never been more excited for someone to read the codex pages than I am for this area ~ the elven lore is just brilliant
With how successful Baldurs Gate 3 has been the next Dragon Age game will have a lot to live up to.
Lets hope they don't drop the ball..I want to be excited but Im not because Andromeda excitement then the let down even though some of Andromeda was really good.
I have said this so many time but I L OV E your commentary and your view on things in this series!!
Oooohhh I just spotted a really neat detail if you relate the painting in game to the actual Last supper painting. And that's all I'm saying on that.
Yeah, when Mapo noted it was the Last Supper, I quickly came to the same conclusion.
It's a very on-the-nose religious reference... though I'm not sure if that's in a good way, or a bad way, given Inquisition's opinions on religion.
Yup, I caught it too!
See, It's subtle details like these that make the game/story so damn special
And we'll have Dreadwolf in the summer 2024.......probably. Maybe early 2025, no one really knows.
Full reveal Summer 2024, hopefully release Fall 2024 🎉 I'd be so excited
Checking from the future: official release date is 10/31/2024 (:
You don't have to run around with a veil-fire torch- you find most times you can lit one right near where you'll need it. Look a bit closer. Your marathon in the Fallow Mire was not needed if you only had tried the other ones. BTW Rhys is the son Wynne got after her love affair with a Templar.
i laughed so hard in origins when you latched onto the story of fen'harel, looking forward to trespasser
Cole didn't have to kill that guy to become more human varric even said so😶🌫️
🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚
I hear about an elf as the Herald of Andraste because my Hero of Ferelden was an elf and a mage too. My Inquisitor was a dwarf and mostly no one minded - the exception well you'll see.
"I was one of the foremost experts in the Kirkwall Circle" Is not the flex that guy thinks it is. The Kirkwall Circle was a goddamn MESS! Also, don't look up what the Nightmare said to Solas in the Fade. You'll only find spoilers.
I'm so sad Mapo didn't talk to Fiona while Alistair was around 😭
1:33:31 It is the difference between modern Elvish and ancient Elvish. When Solus speaks and you don't understand it is because he is speaking ancient Elvish.
I swear that in "All new faded for her" when Solas and spirit of wisdom talk you can get either elven* subs as if you don't understand, or sometimes translated once. It's been a while, but I have this memory in my head. Hm..
It translates if you're playing an elf.
Can confirm. I've been playing with a Trevelyan and he only got the untranslated elven. So cool to see even these minor differences!
The way Fen'Harel was accepted by both the elven gods and the Forgotten Ones (according to Dalish myths) is very similar to Loki from norse mythology, being accepted by both Æsir and giants... and using that acceptance to trick both sides.
Mapo: im not like other girls 😉
Also note that with cole spiritual he's more sure of himself now, so when you leave conversation with "we'll talk later" - he answers with "yes" instead of "how do you know?"
dangerous to look for DA4 infos, just sayin'.
If you type the title of the game in google... well at this point I'm sure somebody has already been spoiled.
"Spindleweed is getting scarce" there's literally a field of spindleweed right in front of her 😆
Bald elf boy = best boyfriend. Good job picking correctly! 😊
And as someone who don't have way too much free time on her hands what Solas says after the kiss is "I love you, my heart".
omg yes All New Faded For Her time!!! /runs to watch/
Me too! rarely clicked so fast on a video
The "...Ohh, no..." after hearing about the 48 copies of Hard In Hightown 💀😹
Playing catch up.... only because when I start I don't' want it to stop. So, I let it build so that I may watch two at a time!
Jade Empire is actually not bad, just different. An aside!
MAN I love the story of Fen'harel, what a lil shit (at least from the elves perspectives? Do we know if there's like a "yeah but it didn't happen that way REALLY theory? I always love those)
1:42:08 "Ar lath ma, vhenan" = "I love you, my heart"
It’s really interesting to see/hear your thoughts on some of the choices in game.
I usually let solas kill the mages - if spirits are people/sentient beings then summoning and binding them to the point where they are so damaged they need to be “euthanized” is basically murder and most of my Inquisitors feel like capital punishment is fair in that case.
Though in my current play through I’m doing an andrastian believer and she’s against it.
You only get translation of the most basic phrases in elven. Dalish elves don't know anything beyond that.
I love your playthrough x'D So glad you chose to romance Solas too.
My theory is that you can understand what the spirit and Solas is saying because it is basic Elvish. While, the Nightmare demon and Solas were speaking in Ancient Elvish.
EDIT: Weird seeig him liking Sera more than Vivienne. Usually you either hate both or like both.
"At this point you're making wine."
I actually did a spit take first time I heard that.
A moment of silence for the BioWare of yore. We'll not see the likes of them ever again. 😥
I feel like you, in your private time must have some sort of headrubbing fetisch. You do you mapo.
It's an old wives' tale that rubbing a bald head is good luck.
You know, there is an "attack my target" button on the hotbar
In Dragon Age canon, i am pretty sure even the Dalish don't have a complete mastery over the Elven language.
"You have done strange things"
Aaww, why didn't I do an elven woman as my charachter.. I would like some Solas.. 😅
It’s hard to turn away from the Megamind, same
I believe they were speaking ancient elven compared to the elven they speak today.
He said: "Brush your teeth." :P
iirc, the demon that Merrill was bargaining with had been summoned and bound long ago. So someone came along, summoned and bound a spirit, corrupted it into a demon, and then sealed it away, and then X years later, Merrill stumbled across it and was tricked into helping it. Marethari then intervened to save her.
sera’s mission can have another outcome with Nobility knowledge
Pretty sure I told Sera to immediately kill the guy.
Translated elvish because more modern Elvish.
Cool to see you come around on Sera, I figured you would. She’s an interesting character and only truly insufferable when it comes to the elf stuff sometimes imo. I just love the characters in DA.
**SPOILER** I love how you noticed the Last Supper similarities in the Inner Circle picture. In hindsight, it’s a somewhat “in your face” spoiler I guess.
hell yeah✌
Omg every time he thinks he has to bring the SAME veilfire torch halfway across the map, or forgets that he can pick it up if he drops it, it drives me NUTS.
1:40:20 if you are a dwarf that's total mind fuck to Solas... for you are wise as hell to his eyes and are not even connected to the fade.
I hope he doesnt spoil himself by looking at the next game
I doubt that
Hi Mapo. I was just wondering if you had any plans to play Armored Core 6 any time in the future? The game is just nuts.
I'm sad he didn't do Sutherlands quests in the way where he forms the little band
...Sara's story, reactions and dialogs are really fun and interesting. I often come in conflict with myself when have to choose the answers! I love that the Lore is so connected and founded in good explanations. It feels like a "real" ancient world Lore! Interesting I have never really thought deeply about the titles on the gravestone in the Fade quest....I will remember from now on! :)
BTW. does anyone know how the game or story react if you don't invite Vivianne to the Inqusition and/or kick Sara out of the Inquisition later. Anyone know??
Mega Mind 🥚 ❤ 🧝🏽♀️
Solas romance, hehe boiii
Question: Do you allow information from the novels, comics, movies and shows? This world has so many huge things in it that the games allude to but never talk about but I don’t want to spoil if you’re planning on reading/watching them yourself.
Couldn't it be the attack did more than just one type of damage, Eg Explosive & fire, With the demon being immune to the fire component? 🤔
I am pretty sure rage demons are immune to the burning status effect end panic but still get regular fire damage but reduced
