Hopefully Dragon Age 4 won't be poopoo (sadly might be the case, if Bioware's ME: Andromeda is anything to go by), and have banger DLCs like Descent & Trespasser, lore wise
Now I'm like Pavlov's dog waiting for the video at 3 pm lol. But I came at the call of my heart! Another good day to love dragon age and smack this playthrough 🤝🏼
It's fun finding VAs in different games! I was happy to hear Prof Frederic, because it's the same VA as Greirat in Dark Souls 3 (who is one of my favourite npcs.)
There he is, our boy is back! After DA2's derpy face, Alistair got a huge upgrade appearance wise, but still had the same personality. Just lovely. To add a little on Alistair's appearance, if you compare his Origins and Inquisition faces side by side, the structures are very similar. However, Origins has this problem that everyone's eyes are too small and too far apart. It was sort of an aesthetic choice and wasn't standing out that much in Origins. But with Inquisition's higher fidelity graphics it would look really weird. So they made everyone a bit more "normal" looking, normal sized eyes and spacing. I think that's why Alistair, and to a lesser degree Lelianna looks different.
Alistair!! Hearing his voice and his silly little jokes always brings a smile to my face. Also yeah Cullen has such a lovely character progression throughout the games. It's crazy to think he was only 18 years old during Origins and went through so much trauma only to get thrown into the mess that was Kirkwall, and now he's here dealing with Corypheus and detoxing from a drug addiction... let that man REST.
Mapo somehow managed to get this far without picking up the most important mage skill - Fade step. What an absolute chad :D! Love the playtroughs mate, keep it up
Awesome gameplay. This is such a fun playthrough to watch. My only humble request is you do Here Lies Abyss mission only after Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts.
Larian's already been doing that before they made BG3. I know they did it with the two Divinity Original Sins games they made, but I'm unsure if it goes back further than that.
Catching up on your videos, Baldur's gate has occupied most of my time lately lol. But one hill I will die on is that Cullen is one of the best characters in Dragon Age and just overall. His personal journey is so well written and performed excellently by his voice actor. A lot of people don't like Cullen, I am glad that you are on my side when it comes to him. Fantastic character. The trauma when he was very young, being sent off to Kirkwall, being isolated and groomed by Meredith, the events in Kirkwall and now everything in Inquisition. And of course we also get my second favorite character (and voice actor) in this series - my boy Alistair.
I was gonna say! There's no guarantee of salubrious effects on your appearance with that sweet darkspawn cocktail, but Alistair seems to have had it hard. 😂
After Dancing with the Egg Man, Riding The Bull, and having a Romp with Dorian (Also, Blackwall's in there somewhere), Cullen became my preferred Romance. It's a shame what happened with his VA but I honestly hope they include his character in DA4 or this might be the last game we see him, sad. Besides Leliana, Cullen and [_____] are the only important (to me) characters that have appeared in every game.
Cullen and Soals are definitely two of the best romances having seen all of them (and played most of them) but likely that's because they were both added on later when the game got more development and their animation is just much better because they don't have to fit it for every race. Qunari and Dwarves are hard to animate for romance cutscenes, I'm sure. My runner ups are Dorian and Cass.
"Friend in Qarinus" war table mission is still available I think, it's on Orlais's side in the top-left corner, hidden by the lighting. Don't know if Mapo has done it and I didn't see it, if so ignore and apologies. Really good playthrough Mapo.
Hi Mapo, just a little recommendation to do the Wicked Eyes Wicked Hearts quest before finishing Here Lies the Abyss. But I can't tell you why because spoilers!
Surely people by now must realize Mapo records well ahead of time? like there is 7 days early access and he doesn't want backseating, and people suggest things as if he's about to action that feedback in THE NEXT EPISODE we're up to Episode 26 on Patreon, just let him have his blind playthrough as intended
Greirat!!! As soon as I heard Prof Frederic of Serault talk in my game, I knew it was the same VA who played Gavlan in Dark Souls 2, and Greirat in Dark Souls 3! 🙂
The thing with Blackwall is that he's so incredibly well-written that he comes off as poorly written by people paying attention. Everything he says is close enough that it could be right from a certain point of view but with a tinge of incorrect...ness.
19:15 Aww~ now when you say hello to Solas he calls you "My Love". 💞 50:55 Wait until he finds out about the banana nailed to a stick. 😂 52:18 Plants versus Zombies. 😂 1:54:17 I like bringing the Og team to Adamant. To me it makes the most sense. 🤔 Some really great scenes with them there. 👍
'lethallan' is just a standard word for someone you're well acquainted with, it's basically means 'friend by blood', 'clan member'. 'my love' would 'ma lath' (literally 'my love'), or 'ma vhenan' ('my heart').
Idk if this kind of complete alternate outcome stuff is too spoilery but Alistair's outfit in his tarot card at 1:09:17 is what he's wearing in game as King Alistair. He shows up where Anora did during In Hushed Whispers if he became king. Also, in the "Loghain becomes a Grey Warden" timeline he will show up as Hawke's contact instead. Which is really cool for alternate playthroughs and stuff.
My current PT has Loghain as the contact, and the interaction between him and a certain character to be met later--aftere our trip to the ball, had some of the most interesting conversation. So good. I've been playing this game since it launched, and I'm still discovering new things.
Strange for someone who can't stand heat, but I always liked that desert region quite a bit. That reunion with Alistair was great to see - on my playthroughs he's always king, so I usually have another warden pitch up there if I recall. It's incredible how much of this game can change depending on your choices in the previous games.
I felt sorry for the Crestwood mayor. He's right in pointing out there's no cure for the blight. The tone in his voice, particularly when he says, "I couldn't tell the survivors I'd drowned their own families to save them. I- I couldn't.", he still feels such guilt and knows it was a terrible thing he did, yet he had no choice. I wish there was a more forgiving choice where you can let him go, without exile. He doesn't deserve death or imprisonment.
Love the cutscenes, when u take the right party to the companions quests. Had one that made me consider dating Cassadra 😅i was flirting with evryone, even Cassandra at Solas,... Josephine is one the best cheesy romance🥰
Mapo Blackwall is wearing Warden armor probably even in your armour he has insigna on it and a way of standing its not an intrinsic thing that wardens can id each other.
Here lies the abyss, the well of all souls. From these emerald waters doth life begin anew. Come to me, child, and I shall embrace you. In my arms lies Eternity. Now is the hour thine actions take the form of consequence. Next episode is going to be a blinder.
Didn't really catch it until a recent playthrough but I'm pretty sure the "grandmother" thing in the wyvern venom lore entry is a dig at Jordan "Lobsterman" Peterson :D.
I don't think Wardens can sense other Wardens. If they could tracking down missing Wardens would be pretty easy. And evading wouldn't be as simple as hiding in a cave.
According to Cannon Wardens can sense darkspawn in the immediate area that included other wardens as they are tied to the blight as well. The wardens searching for Alistair were far enough away to not sense Alistair. They were encountered on the other side of the village to where you found Alistair. Alistair's comment in DAO "We can sense them and they can sense us." right after the camp ambush.
Yeah, Alistair was most definitely not "sensing" that Blackwall was a Warden. I think he's meant to just be going by Blackwall wearing Warden armor, and then once he hears the name and recognizes it he just assumes it's all on the level.
You really should pay attention to the requisition officer, and accept their missions. They give you 1 power every time you complete one. And they are different. Some get repeated, but in the long run, you can really get a lot of power for the war table missions that way.
He probably has enough power to finish the game. Maybe he won’t get every deep roads crevice a bridge, but after doing all those, I regret spending my time on more loot rooms
he's been uploading DA everyday and is up to episode 26 on patreon as he has 7 days early access...why do you think your recommendation will change his mind by tomorrow?
I personally can't bring myself to spare Crestwood's mayor. Not only did he kill a whole lot of innocent people, but he covered it up for a decade, then ran when the truth was uncovered. I don't see him as a person who did what he had to and couldn't face it afterwards, I see him as a coward who was likely thinking mostly of saving himself from the blight and tried to use the greater good of everyone as an excuse. The only reason he ever admitted to what he did was because he was exposed, and his reaction was to flee. If he really felt bad, he would've confessed after the crisis of the blight was ended and let the villagers decide what to do with him.
I hate how unrecognizable they made Alistair in Inquisition. I looked up a comparison image of his character models in all three games and it is wild how different he looks. in the second game they did make him paler which is an odd thing to do, but at the very least his face still looked similar to Origins Alistair, but in Inquisition he has an entirely new face that isn't even remotely similar, he is using the palest skin tone (seriously... I looked it up,) and they also made his hair bright and blonde for some reason? he honestly just looks like Cullen. it feels like he was designed by someone who hadn't played Origins in years and only had a very vague picture of how he looked in their mind. I'm honestly surprised his appearance wasn't adjusted with a patch, at the very least his skin tone... but I guess we thankfully got mods for that. on a more positive note: I love Alistair and I'm so glad you didn't wait longer to go meet up with him! I'm a big fan of how this game incorporates the first two games, it really feels like those two adventures actually matter, I think it would be so much less satisfying to play this entry without playing the first two since there's so many great callbacks and returning characters. thank you for posting these episodes so often! I always get so happy when I see that you've posted :)
I gave them some slack, a new engine, ten years of travel or being King does change people. At least, that's how I saw things. I'm more put off by his ears, if I'm being honest.
My own headcanon of it is that between being a king or hunting darkspawn in the deep roads, he's been spending all his time away from the sun and thus looks pale/sicklier.
Dorian's problem with his family never made much sense to me, considering the era of human history the game simulates. There have been plenty of gay noblemen over the ages, Edward II and Louis XIII come immediately to mind. They put their revulsion aside and did the act to preserve the family. In those days, husband and wife were rarely together if they could help it. Note to Mapo: Having your PC do how you would handle a situation is not role-playing.
he played a rogue in the first game, he wouldn't notice the fire immunity. in the second game he played a warrior, they're also only immune to fire on nightmare in 2. this is his first game as a mage directly using fire on the enemy himself, and they are only resistant, not immune as you can see damage being done. it's immune to the burning effect. use your eyes
@@GrayDeath2052 I played a warrior in DAO first ever play through, and I noticed the vulnerabilities of my enemies. For someone who reads every codex, he must be aware.
point is that it's not affecting his gameplay he's still killing them as they are just immune to burning. he has 3 other fighters, why bother changing to a diff elemental staff?@@phonic0photon
@@phonic0photon Clearly, the EXP isn't a priority for him. He's still doing damage, just less. In a game like this min maxing is fine if you want to do it but it's soooooo unnecessary. He's always been in Dragon Age for the story.
Fun fact, according to the book Asunder, the sand in the Western Approach should be colored in a purplish hue. 🟣 The devs probably thought this would look weird or bad for gameplay for some reason... or probably missed the memo completely
The way Alistair went from having one of the darkest skin tones in Origins to the lightest in Inquistion lowkey still makes me upset. idk I just he doesnt look like himself imo
@@weeaboowrangler6321 i kinda saw him as like Mediterranean to egyptian ish area. But also like, he genuinely has the second darkest skin color swatch in Dragon Age Origins, and then went straight one of the lightest ones. He just like FEELS so different now to me, like I dont see him as Alistair. I think maybe if they didnt lighten his hair so much as well it would be fine? idk like hair tends to get darker as people age, ESPECIALLY his hair color (from personal experience). Though honestly its not really Alistair specifically that bothers me, but that Bioware has a tendency to make characters lighter and lighter as the games and other media progresses.
well, we know who his parents are and they both aren't really dark either plus DA2 he was also washed out (maybe i just have more experience with da2 because he's usually king in my playthroughs), i just assumed he was really tan in da:o which makes sense but that's not to say you aren't wrong, i wish he was darker because he looks sickly but da2 was the worst with that in my opinion and even if you saw him as more than basic white (lol) that's valid too i just think i'm just less upset about that in comparison to other character like zevran in da2 etc. a lot of characters were whitewashed a bit but i'm glad isabela was literally the opposite i'm also mad they didn't go with concept art solas, love the man but his darker skin and braids would have been... hot
Those sunflowers and zombies on the ground are referencing Plants Vs Zombies.
Still surprised he didn't catch that😂

You have played the first two games and must know rage demons are immune to fire magic, why do you not have a cold staff as a backup?
he played a rogue in the first game, he wouldn't notice the fire immunity. in the second game he played a warrior, they're also only immune to fire on nightmare in 2. this is his first game as a mage directly using fire on the enemy himself, and they are only resistant, not immune as you can see damage being done. it's immune to the burning effect. use your eyes
@@GrayDeath2052 Experience points for your character.
@@phonic0photon Clearly, the EXP isn't a priority for him. He's still doing damage, just less. In a game like this min maxing is fine if you want to do it but it's soooooo unnecessary. He's always been in Dragon Age for the story.
look at that smile on the thumbnail, he doesn't know yet... ;(
ugh i can't stand Mother Giselle
Fun fact, according to the book Asunder, the sand in the Western Approach should be colored in a purplish hue. 🟣 The devs probably thought this would look weird or bad for gameplay for some reason... or probably missed the memo completely
The way Alistair went from having one of the darkest skin tones in Origins to the lightest in Inquistion lowkey still makes me upset. idk I just he doesnt look like himself imo
People always say this but I just never saw him as anything but white and blonde. Not that you're wrong for being upset since that's how you saw him
@@weeaboowrangler6321 i kinda saw him as like Mediterranean to egyptian ish area. Though honestly its not really Alistair specifically that bothers me, but that Bioware has a tendency to make characters lighter and lighter as the games and other media progresses.
well, we know who his parents are and they both aren't really dark either
plus DA2 he was also washed out (maybe i just have more experience with da2 because he's usually king in my playthroughs), i just assumed he was really tan in da:o which makes sense
but that's not to say you aren't wrong, i wish he was darker because he looks sickly but da2 was the worst with that in my opinion and even if you saw him as more than basic white (lol) that's valid too
i just think i'm just less upset about that in comparison to other character like zevran in da2 etc.
a lot of characters were whitewashed a bit but i'm glad isabela was literally the opposite
i'm also mad they didn't go with concept art solas, love the man but his darker skin and braids would have been... hot
@@nightfrost1891 first time I saw da2 zevran i literally SCREAMED oaodijawoi cursed creature
