      Will might be a better shot if his sling wasn't aligned in a way that transfers the hand's pivot on release to the trajectory. You don't see that design often for a reason: It screws up your aim.

    Also, Will, your scythe slingshot looks awesome. An idea if you ever wanted to remake it: make the end of the sling that the exits the bottom of your palm about 5-6 inches longer, wrap it under and around your wrist. It would make it look incredibly artistic, and potentially give it the stability it needs to cancel out the downsides of a one-handed weapon.

    few thoughts:
    Thank You Alec for stepping in when safety risks were popping up. it shows that you care more about the people in your shop than anything else, which is so good to see
    Second, Good work Will, your think basically broke with 10 minutes left, and you still got a finished product (with arguably, a greater finish than Alec's slingshot), I'm really impressed
    Thirdly, I think I know where Will went wrong. Alec was able to get so much more work done with each heat, because he kept working on it even when it wasn't the cherry red that's like butter to work with. Will was doing much shorter bursts of cherry red, so he was putting down and picking up his tools many more times, which added that time pressure. sure, some of it was Alec's experience and expertise at moving metal much faster, but that time difference also played a much larger part

    Leather working tip if you’re interested: If you have a small tough piece of leather scrap that you keep with your hole punch you can use it as a backer instead of clamping into the brass stop every time.
    This allows for cleaner holes, an easier time punching, and your punch will always stay sharp! :)
    Cheers guys, love your content. Keep it coming!

    I'm starting to see the advantage built into going second in that player 2 gets an extra hour to plan his design. You should try blinding the next one of these by outsourcing the choice of build out to someone else and springing it on both players right as they start, that or give both people a short time lag to think through their design or bring back the first one's setup where player 1 set the time that player two has to meet. I love this new series; they're a lot of fun, just curious to see what happens if the playing field gets equalized a bit.

  • @MarkhamShawPyle

    Well, Alec, you managed to say 'slingshot' rather than 'catapult', so that's a win in itself. Before you completely Americani[s/z]e, though, you lads ought at some point to make a Snettisham Iceni torc. Norfolk and Boudicca expect every smith to do his duty....

      Suffolk boy here, and that would have been a catapult to me as a kid. Android knew how to spell it so it must be a fairly widespread term.

    • @RobPoleij
      @RobPoleij 5 років тому

      Also in The Netherlands it is called a catapult. A slingshot ( we call it a slinger) is something else. A slingshot has no wood or iron midpeace. It is just a leather band wit a wider peace of leather in the middle. You put a round stone in it and wield it round above your had an then release one Side of the leather band. More difficult to master but very effectieve. A slinger was widely used in the early Ages Where there was no rubber available.

    • @EdwinWiles
      @EdwinWiles 5 років тому

      By the basic function of a catapult (energy stored for use) versus an actual sling (energy imparted just before release) the correct term is catapult. But America always goes it's own way, which is why Football is a full contact sport. :-)
