I’ve had my Ibanez SR300 for a year or so now and am still chuffed with it. Like the slim neck, it doesn’t weigh a ton and the tones are pretty sweet.

Ok... I've watched other reviews on the Sire/Marcus Miller M2, but this one convinced me... I need to get an M2... because of the quality of the sound and the flexibility of that pre-amp, it punches above its weight... damned nice bass for the price, imho. Time to start putting some money aside for one.

  • @aeroengr9490

Both basses sounded really good. But for me, the most practical choice is the Sire M2, because it have a much modern preamp with active/passive switch, very useful.

  • @marike1100
    @marike1100 5 років тому +5

The M2 has a bit more modern preamp, with 18V and active/passive modes. The SR300 has a amazingly comfortable 5-piece neck. Hard to go wrong with either bass.

Wow, very hard choice I think. I feel the M2 just tips the balance with that mid frequency on the pre-amp for me but, the color of the SR300 is just beautiful. They both sound so good and great playing doesn't make the choice any easier. Oh what to do!!!

I think the hidden bonus of 24 frets is less body and thus less weight, which is kinda nice. I find fender style basses a bit heavy.
I was a fan of the old DX4/DX5 Ibanez soapbars but I quite like the sound of the new sr300 pickups.
The Sire's passive tone wins this for me though, it does something different than an active high shelf and I like to ride the tone control, particularly in small pub covers gigs where I have to swap genres fast and there isn't a sound tech to keep me in the mix.

  • @dominiccrimmings6925

I'd have murdered to get a bass of that quality for that price when I started out - my first bass was a right plank but still cost me 160 quid and it was rubbish. Mind you, 2 years later I upgraded and got myself a Hohner "Jack" which I absolutely loved and wished I'd never sold. I might pick one up on e-bay or somewhere as they're reasonably cheap I think. But you've gotta say, for the money, these are 2 great basses for the money - I currently play a Fender Jazz which was 5x what these cost and I love it but if I was to be asked about a starter bass for a couple of hundred quid to advise someone, you couldn't go far wrong with these 2.

My only concern with both of these basses is how well the shape of them will age. The SR300 has a shape very reminiscent of the cars of 2000 to 2010 where everything was rounded. The Sire has a more modern rounded with edge look. Sure those cars looked great at the time, but these days they look terrible. Will be bass in 10 years end up looking like a Vauxhall Vectra? The classic shape guitars don’t have this issue

    • @petruritivoiu8732

NecronN00b 82 interesting point. I found out that, with cars, you can use this rule of thumb to find out in they will age well or not: “Does the car have a clear shape, clear lines and overall a clear identity?” If yes, it will age well, if not, it won’t. Examples: VW Passat B2 (aged well in my eyes) and Hiunday Elantra 2002 (a miserable car)

Kiváncsi vagyok a Tiédre.

What was the base cord they played at the end

Just the lower horn issue with the M2 cutting at the 21st instead of maybe cutting it down to the 23rd fret like the Ibanez bass. Amazing bass otherwise.

i really hope they fix this issue on the m2s, i think the newer m7s already has a proper cutted lower horn

They did fix that. My M2 5 string has a deeper cut and a proper access to the highest frets.

How is the Ibanez neck? Because some say it has a banana neck. I have an Ibanez S guitar and I love it, looking for something same in a bass. I play in drop A# tuning. Would it be able to handle thick string like that?

Ibanez is still not aware of what a pickup SPLIT and TAP are. They should really educate themselves so they quit passing along incorrect information.
