Bought one last month and really pleased with it: slim neck, nicely contoured body, not too weighty, good balance (no neck dive) and the range of tones are impressive.
Due to its fame and craftmanship, most everyone wants a fender or fender-copy, because of the nostalgia and tone. However, I can say, having played a few fenders and a lot of more modern basses, that brands and Ibanez provide more features at lower prices. For $450, you can get an Ibanez SR 375E (A maple-body 5 string with all the features of the 300 series). Also, the Power Tap is just the Tap (Parallel-Single Coil) with a bass boost so it stays at the same volume level as the Series (humbucking) mode. All in all, Ibanez proves itself everyday as a great guitar company, just like Yamaha, Schecter, ESP, and many others.
To be honest, I started playing bass with an Ibanez, now I have another and I have plans to buy another, Ibanez basses are so damn good and versatile, and they are not that expensive!!! you can play anything with them
I never really wanted a Fender. I wanted something more modern so I got a G&L L-2000, which was designed by Leo anyway. I've now caught the bass bug and am really interested in the SR370 fretless.
YES! I've been fiddling with guitar for nearly two decades BUT just bought my first bass a month ago, and it's an Ibanez SR300F-very similar, but fretless, and with an ebonol fingerboard-and I paired it with a new Fender Rumble. I call it a guitar players' bass. Such an easy feel (especially with the flatwound strings). Loving the "All About The Bass" episodes!
I have just this model, this neck is amazing. I am a guitarist, and this neck is very close regarding the comfort. Nathan's play is absolute awesome, love it. Thx for the review.
I bought a used SR300 in metallic red a few years back @ a local pawn for $100 otd which is 89.75 euros & that bass is the bee's knees.. After a setup & a set of flats it has become my #1 & have even sold my other basses off since.. It's that good..
I’ve had this bass for nearly 3 years now, and I still think it’s brilliant. One downside that I found on the road is that the saddles on the bridge aren’t the strongest. They started to get a little week after having changed the strings and set the intonation 2-3 times. It’s nothing too distracting tho. It’s a high recommendation!!
This video is responsible WHOLLY for my purchase of the SR300E-PW and Fender Rumble 100. It is also responsible for the fact I've developed an addiction to playing said bass, and thoroughly ignoring my guitars since the bass arrived. It is also responsible for my son demanding to hear bass line after bass line of songs he knows. Thank you Nathan and Lee for convincing me to part with yet more of my hard earned on another pending addiction :D
I've had one of these a couple years now. I bought a Fender Jazz last year but just always much preferred the Ibanez for sound and playing. It just works really well.
My old man has one of the older SR basses back from 2004ish in a silver with PJ pickups, easily one of the best and easiest basses I have ever played. Sounds better than some of the older 1970's Jazz basses I have played.
SR is really amazing. And by the way, I like the way this guy is playing. It sounds really proffesional. Thx. I've bought one. Navy blue. And it's really fantastic. Greetings from Poland.
The color choices have really expanded progressively since this video was released. I believe there are 4-5 color choices available for the SR300E model at this point.
Thanks for all the great content. This bass in slap has just as good if not BETTER tone than a $2000 Fender Jazz! Ibanez has really done it. I think I'm gonna grab the 6 string version!
My first bass was a 2001 Ibanez SR300DX. I still have it, I still love it, I wouldn't sell it for the world and prefer it to any other bass I have ever played/owned. The neck is definitely skinnier than my Squire Vintage Modified Jazz Bass.
"dark, heavy" Bought an Epiphone Thunderbird Pro-IV and dark and heavy was totally what I expected, but what I got was the most mid-intensive clatter, couldn't stand it and got rid of it almost immediately. The first and last instrument I ever buy untested (it wasn't available for a test but I saw the finish and fell - visually - in love) - it really was garbage.
Lol seen so many of these but not this 1st episode. Nathan says at the start something about they have been making this for 25 years. I brought an Ibanez SR500 new back in 1994 and yes they still make that one, tho it's different in some ways, pick ups, wood type etc. I still have mine and it's neck is so nice like all of the SR range. Needs new pre amp to. It cost me 1k back then and I looked at Fender, MM etc around same price, new and 2nd hand and kept coming back to the Ibanez. I've owned other basses since and still have another two, but never could part with my SR 500. Ibanez make awesome basses at ridiculous prices. Some brand snobs have to have a Fender etc and look down at Ibanez without ever playing one. Their loss. Cheers
I always feel like I'm bad at bass when I see nathan play but then I remember that he's probably been playing for at least ten years longer than I've been alive for.
Try Scott's bass lessons on UA-cam. Probably a good idea to be somewhat masterful of fingerstyle-plectrum techniques before venturing into slap (beyond that heard on Saturdays at local guitar shops).
Just picked up the slightly nicer, maple bodied 370e. Absolutely love it. Not to get confrontational, but the Thunderbird was just a nose-diving brick by comparison. The Ibanez is light, is incredibly flexible, and has a good, but subtle look. Plus it fits in a normal gig bag. It's just a really smart bass. I'll also note that it can sound way more dark and Geezer Butler-y if you tweak it a bit, I'm kinda shocked by how tinny it sounds it this demo (though it still sounds okay).
I’m currently in the market for owning a new bass, so I’ve been hitting up UA-cam for demos on strings and basses, and 15/20 videos bass related material have all been English/Brits. Something to that ? Could there be more Bass players in the UK?
@@ElVangulo easy? No sir, bass is't that easy, well, it is, if you are just playing as an average one. If you want to become to a great one is not easy.
The number one thing that I love about Ibanez basses is that they have plenty of basses that go up to 24 frets. It's all about options, and I love how Ibanez gives you that. I don't know why companies like Fender and Gibson don't do that, there isn't any downside to a 24 fret neck that I can see.
