VCR's built after 1990 were just not designed to be serviced. This is a good example of that. Sometimes you can get lucky and spot a simple problem and take care of it but most of the time they're just not fixable at all. Fortunately, they made millions of them and they were rather cheap so you might find another one that is in good working order. :) JC
Quasar VCR's as well as the TV/VCR combos were the absolute best!!! I have one from '99 and it lasted for a very long time until my dad got a hold of it and now it doesn't work anymore, smh
I am 99% sure the loading tray isn't making contact with the loading motor anymore, because of how somebody inserted a tape way too fast. This makes the VCR unable to know when a tape is inserted so it does nothing. Try removing and reinserting the loading tray until it starts working again. Of course, the fact that it's underneath a whole TV is going to make that a rather difficult repair... If that doesn't work, re-remove the loading tray and try manually turning the loading motor to it's initial state and then try reinserting the loading tray again. Since this is a very recent VCR, the loading motor is probably going to be next to a weird gear with paths carved on it. If I knew what those TV/VCR combo looked like on the inside, I could probably help you a lot better!
@CosbyTheCaterpillar It won't even load the tape around the heads. It is basically a burned out circuit board. A cleaning tape won't do a thing because its completely dead. It'd be hard to replace the circuit board though because of the huge cathode ray tube television on top of it.
It must have a bad current on the mother board. I had two Quasar TV/VCR combo units, both had several problems with their VCR. The video/picture was very wavy in SP mode, the audio had constant buzzing sounds, and would lose tracking easily. Finally on both TVs, they had smoke coming out of the vents on the back, and the VCRs would not work at all. The TVs still worked fine, so I gave one to a friend years back, and I put the other in my garage.
@CassetteMaster Im guessing its something with the loading tray and motor, I wish I could get in there so I can see what it is but the picture tube is in the way of the VCR and I dont want to mess with that since its still working.
There's a sensor in there that will shut the whole thing down if the motor is not spinning. Looks like the mechanism got damaged when the tape got slammed in. I honestly don't know if it can be repaired. You'd have to tear it completely apart and find the broken part and replace it. :) JC
My brother used to shove things into the vhs deck fron our Sony Trinitron when he was 2. I remember the last time I watched that tv. The Tv was only used for VHS tapes only. We never installed television on it.
How to fix. First, unplug your VCR. In order to test the mechanisms inside the device, you need to ensure that you can maneuver the various switches without the VCR taking over automatically. Next, slide a cassette into the VCR slowly until you can see with the flashlight where the cassette catches on a rolling mechanism, known as the "cassette loading mechanism." Remove the cassette and rotate the mechanism by hand in both directions to confirm that it still moves correctly. The cassette loading mechanism catches the cassette and "feeds" it into the VCR. Finally, slide the cassette halfway into the VCR until it catches on the cassette loading mechanism, then plug the VCR into the AC power outlet. If there are no electronic or mechanical malfunctions, this minor adjustment should allow the VCR to recognize the cassette.
@TheNintendoman64 you would need to use the remote there would have to be some menu that can be accessed with the remote, if the remote is gone use a universal remote
To my knowledge about the 6 hour and 8 hour tapes. There really isn't that much difference between the two, other than the 8 hour tapes may have thinner tape to add more recording time. There were also 10 hour tapes made by Memorex, which allowed 10 hours on SLP, over 6 hours on LP (those machines that had it) and about 3 hours and 20 minutes on SP mode. Those didn't last long because of the very thin tape and would wear out the fastest. BASF I think also made a 10 hour tape but again it wasn't very popular. There are also some rare 6 1/2 hour tapes available but your most common are 6 hour and 8 hour. This is refering the time capacity on the slowest speed of the VCR. Lots of times when they say T-160, that's a 2 hour and 40 minute tape. T-180 is a 3 hour and a T-200 is 3 hours and 20 minutes. T-130s were also made but those were the 2 hour and 10 minute tapes.
I have an RCA model nearly identical to yours, in pieces on my desk. Mine has a different issue, but I sure wish you'd take that machine apart so I could see the guts of the vcr. Mine appears to have a direct-drive loading assembly, but that's not it's issue. Mine has sound but no video when playing a VHS tape. Unfortunately, I can't find a vid that shows the doohickey that I suspect is missing
@HumbertoPKMNTrainer I do like the panasonic VCR it works really well, as for the JVC TV/DVD combo, it is nice, but would be nicer if the VCR part worked
I had that same issue with with TV/VCR combo because I jammed toys in it when I was 3-4years old a long time ago. The VCR never worked again sense and one of my blues clues tapes got stuck in it at one point and my parents had to use a fork to get it out.
Does it say "DEW" or similar on the display? Might be a dew problem? Typically if there's moisture/condensation, the VCR won't do anything until the problem clears up... might be a bad dew sensor
@BadEditPro the only place I can get another one of these is ebay, but I have two other VCRs in my room, but i need one for the 40 inch HD TV, because other people want to watch VHS tapes, i'm the only one that has one
There should be 2 buttons (EX: The Channel Buttons) that have a live connecting them and says ACTION. That brings up the menu and you can change settings like that with the onscreen instructions.
I have a Symphonic SC313B combo TV/VCR. It plays a tape fine. If I stop the tape the TV shuts off about 5-10 seconds later. If I turn it on it runs for another 5-10 seconds and shuts off. If I turn it on and play a tape it plays the tape fine. Any tips or tricks I can do to make the TV work without shutting down? I don't care about using the VCR. Thanks,
the motoror sensor for the tape feed is shot most likely cause it it doesnt know the tapes there then it wont do anything most likely the sensor or motor burned out that grabs the tape and pulls it to the drum to be played it shouldnt be that much of a problem but unless u know alot about electronic repair and tvs are not one to learn on the fly as they contain deadly voltage even when unplugged just leave it to a repair shop to fix it
I have a somewhat different model, but with mine the tape won't even go in. It's like a stronger force is keeping it from inserting. I feel really sad because I spent so much of my childhood watching movies on the thing, and I don't want it to be a useless piece of garbage.
@saifunny opps this comment is very late, the only way I know of testing the picture tube is to find a channel with color bars that will show all the colors to see if every color and brightness along with contrast ratio is working properly
my old Panasonic omnivision tv vcr combo brightness is dark. there isnt a brightness button on and there isnt a button to access the menu. what do i do?
when I took it apart the picture tube was in the way, and I dont want to mess with that because it still works, at leased we can still watch TV on it, but this is why I dont like the TV/VCR they are hard to get to the VCR part, I used to have an older VCR, I forget the brand, but it broke after a while, and would not do anything, I think it was the end of its time because it had a lot of use too it, when you plug it in it didnt light up the clock or accept a tape, but its gone, in the trash
I just got a Sylvania 13in tv/vhs combo and when you insert the vhs you get sound but no picture. What could be wrong. The tv is brand new the people never used it. It was still in original packaging. Do you have to set it up to play vhs?
i have one of those. it plays fine but i have to shove a pencil into the power button just to turn the dang thing on! also it won't accept the tape.it locks itself up so you have to push Another button with a pencil. also, this is the wierd part, sometimes when i push play it fastfowards instead. i feel bad for my "pokemon the first movie" tape because it won't play. any suggestions? (other than smash the thing to bits preferrably)
Guess this is worse than my issue with my tv. My quasar model won't even power on anymore. Sadly it died with a tape inside. I may have to break the tv open to remove it.
because the VCR is analog and the LED is digital, even if you did you wouldn't get the HD quality. But if you still have some VHS tapes from home videos or something you can get an adaptor to connect to a computer and make a digital file.

JVC TV DVD combo is the worst electronical purchase I have ever made. Never again will I buy JVC!!!! Rip off consider this a warning before you purchase.

I replayed @4:04 like 5 times. Nice video though!
20 times

@jason24568 I like the panasonic VCR because it has better quality than the DVD combo, and I use my computer for the DVDs

I have that same tv. And the VCR has nothing wrong with it. And it still works fine.
This broke because a tape was pushed in too fast and messed up the gears
did you fix the problem?

I have a Toshiba TV/VCR combo with a similar problem. I put a tape in, and it loaded and threaded it, but won't play, rewind, fast forward, or eject.

This never worked again, but I have several working VCRs now, although don’t really use them much, still have them for when I need one.
@@patricknedzthis just happened to me

It might be a damaged switch that detects a tape, or a broken belt or gear, or a belt that came off. Those are my guesses.
There should be 2 buttons (EX: The Channel Buttons) that have a live connecting them and says ACTION. That brings up the menu and you can change settings like that with the onscreen instructions.
the same problem !!! what is the solution please help ????

Nope, I press "play" and it shows the play symbol on screen, but doesn't actually do it. Same goes for rewind, fast forward, and eject.
@wedgehedge444 it wont suck it in like it was supposed to, you have to push it in
A VCR...INSIDE of a TV??!! What kind of God-playing, techno-y, gadgetry is this?!
i have a phillips tv like that for 1991 and it works pretty well
Instructions unclear, I ripped my television in half with my bare hands and pried my VHS tape from its iron grip.
I might have to do the same to save our scooby classics tape from a dead tv.
the motoror sensor for the tape feed is shot most likely cause it it doesnt know the tapes there then it wont do anything most likely the sensor or motor burned out that grabs the tape and pulls it to the drum to be played it shouldnt be that much of a problem but unless u know alot about electronic repair and tvs are not one to learn on the fly as they contain deadly voltage even when unplugged just leave it to a repair shop to fix it

@saifunny opps this comment is very late, the only way I know of testing the picture tube is to find a channel with color bars that will show all the colors to see if every color and brightness along with contrast ratio is working properly
@Chianagirl it was a recorded tape
The thing that you say it moves its sopposed to move. I'm guessing a sensor is broken.
Yes I know its supposed to move but it moves way to freely like its not even attached to anything like it should be.
Take apart the unit, remove the mechanism, and diagnose the problem. Then, search for remedies online.
My VCR is never like this but my first VHS copy of Toy Story was pushed in too fast that its film strip got shredded

what problem broken is vhs a not working happens
I have the sylvania lv426g Vcr Combo earlier when I put the tape in, the tape ejects and it starts to get eaten up so we started emailing the vcr guy!
Why don't you just connect the other VCR to the TV/VCR combo and call it a day?
but will it blend?
ITR stands for Instant Timer Recording.
Is it the belt
Come on, don't get mad, nothing else, there are dvd or cd and you can now play without problems
Take it apart and try to find the problem.Maybe the belt is broken?
My tv is related to that one, but it says Admiral on it.
Or do it on a vhs regresser, Patrick
