I love old TVs like this. I used to search for long distance TV stations before everything went digital. (People in the know call it DXing). It's still possible but it's more difficult and not as fun. So yeah, I'm still bummed the government killed off one of my special interest hobbies! (and yes, I also have Aspegers)
*Don't get the chinese plastic crap models
***** Image? (stock image will do)
***** That's a nice old TV keep it
***** Nice
You can make your own broadcast with a magnet and copper wire
I have the EXACT same thing happening to an old amp. if you open it, have protection, and turn it on you will probably notice it's coming from the power on area or where the spark is. Find the location (probably the slightly charred area for obvios resons) and see if you can fix a connection.
The high voltage is sparking. open it up, turn it on and look for sparks. Turn off* and clean the area where the spark jumped.
*the CRT holds voltage long time after turn off, if you dont want to get zapped, stick a screwdriver grounded to the case under the "suction cup" thingy before you start cleaning.
Diesel Ducy My aunt shelline has a Emerson Ewc1303 13 inch vcr tv combo, it mostly worked, but all out of nowhere, it started eating tapes and stuff, and I had to troubleshoot that thing out. Still stayed on, did not to that popping noise like yours did, if I had that model, and it was doing that, I would get it repaired now.
1:41-1:50 Sounds like a TIE Fighter from Star Wars
The VCR King
Probably a bootloop like thing it does especially when you put the tape in, it stalls to play it, then it shuts down. Probably a broken soldier connection in the power supply.
Wait, He filming it in his 18 Wheeler Truck!
I have never seen a CRT TV VCR do that before!
You should submit this video to America's Funniest Home Videos. It's hysterical.
I know it is soooo epic LOL
@@DieselDucy This video will definitely win you $20,000 or even $100,000.
I had a problem like this with a vcr tv I had, my tv was unscrewed and it was actually dead, so the tape stuck inside had a screwdriver put under it and then forced out, the motor was broken on mine though, so it wouldn’t eject it
you should get a blank tape for testing these things! You can still buy them at most places that sell other media
Looks like the flyback is arcing from the graphite coating on the outside of the tube to the electron gun. Probable due to dust. Try opening it and vacuuming out the dust. Watch for the suction cup on the top of the tube! This can bite even when unplugged!!!
1:27 That had me cracking up laughing!!!
lol. My old cringy video.
It looks and sounds like a component in the HV hot section may be arcing over to the chasis or another component. Unfortunately, these shorts can sometimes be incredibly hard to trace and rectify. What concerns me is that the short hasn't blown the fuse (guessing it's american, 115V 2A?).
It did the exact same thing on my Orion TV VCR Combo!
Playtime Gaming 64
I have super scan tv vcr dvd combo from FEBUARY 2004 it works great
I used to have this same tv when I was little
jordan rausch
No, late 90's/early 2000's. There is no way any of these are 80's.
E-P-I-C FAIL!
I commented 1 year ago, but now I know why this happen, it is a FUNAI! :P
***** XDD
+TheCRTman I hate FUUUNAAAAAAAIIIIIII!
All the best stuff is made in Japan
@@japoople Funai is made i China they made cheap and crappy vcr,tvs and hifis back in the day
I must say this: the flat-screen TV my family had was not showing the picture and it doesn't work anymore! E-P-I-C F-A-I-L
Also, 12V is not enough voltage to run a CRT TV, in Britain you need at least 240V, and even then it's possible to die if you touch the innards.
You realise it doesn't actually use 12 volts. It's just powered from a 12V plug.
you put your hand in something electrical that was sparking?
Maybe the dc or ac fuse was having trouble working. Probably the normal plug works.
Probably some broken solder joints making it spark
What is the model number for this tv?i want this same tv because it looks cool.(obviously not the broken one lol)
that was actually for dieselducy: Well, Sell it!
It's been bouncing in a truck for 10 years.. What did you expect ? (I've got the same one, only ran it for two years)
3:50 when you stub your toe
Christian The Thomas And Friends Fan ALT
Well, when I see "exploding" in the title, I expected the damn thing to explode.
Mine is Symphonic TV VCR combo that has the tape gets eaten up!
Do you still have this sylvania TV VCR combo dieselducy
Probably Not. I think the DC Portion which he was using in his car in this video. Is having trouble. I think the AC Fuse works okay.
should have sent it to the guys at "Is it a good idea to microwave this".
2:12 it’s like firecrackers
There your problem. The TV is on channel 77!
It fixed itself
Ooo look it's sparking and could ignite, lets do it a few more times and see if I get injured.
Ouch! The sparking must be coming from the flyback transformer. That TV is as good as dead. I am not sure if a replacement flyback would fix it. It might have suffered moisture damage and killed the flyback.
It's a write off. Even if the flyback was the cause and was replaced, there is likely other damage in this set that still makes it a fire hazard.
The cost to make it safe just isn't worth it.
Bad solder joint in the power supply would be my guess
I think the fly back transformer or the electron gun May be shorting or doing something just so stupid for a 9 inch 1998 to 2000 crt tv......
Wrong. It was made 2002-2003.
Your nails looked amazing
Rare Llamas 9
It's a bad solder connection in the inverting power supply. Easy fix.... but your probably have a 6:19 LCD DVD player in your truck by now.
I have a sylvania tv (22") and when you put a tape in it turns off
It was officially not working!
Aww I thought it was going to explode. :(
thesomebodywho
It popped at 1:50
Rest in peace
This thing was terrible lol
Its called grabbing a screw driver, taking it apart, and figuring out how to fix it. there's nothing fried on it, just a loose wire or something. I never had that problem with any of my tvs, but thats probably because mine were never small enough to be bounced and kicked all over the place.
epic fail of a video
SHUT THE FUXK UP!
Its a Funai. Its a Landfiller if its a Funai...
You should probably fix sylvania crt tv vcr combo anyways do you still have sylvania tv vcr combo dieselducy
I got rid of it years ago.
kipkay should hack it into something new =D
haha
This was filmed back when he was driving a truck
roadwolf2
sylvania make netbook now
Was this Sylvania Badged TV/VCR combo made by Funai? I heard that mechanisms made by Funai are horrible.
It's not true they are actually more reliable than others
@@TechnicFreakJulian I don't have issues with it. I just heard negative reviews from others.
was this in your car
COOL
It was a nice TV but too bad it's broken!
must be a short in the circuit
Enjoy you movie with popcorn when you dont have popcorn !
Leos Technik Kanal
You have a CRT shorting out and it's what is causing all the popping noise!!!!
Henry Birtcher
speaking about fireworks, MAKE IT A BLOCKBUSTER NIGHT! & POP IN A BLOCKBUSTER then light the fuse :P
NO, ON JULY 1ST!
take it to best buy or something but i don't think they would be able to fix it because its so old
It's not that old. It was made in the late 1990s to early 2000s.
5:29 At least you keep fighting with your tape
Lol totally.
Sometimes long ago with my TV/VCR Combo and still have it, when the N64 is connected to it sometimes in the middle of the night, the thing would make a very loud "CLAP" sound and the screen would be white as snow! When the first time it did that, I thought something exploded XD!
I was expecting what I call the Poltergeist II effect (in the movie when Carol Ann puts here right hand towards the TV set and sparks go off and a ghost transports her) I had 2 CRT TV's do that (they where both at least 13 years old) One a Sony made in 1983 did the Poltergeist spark in 2002 damn lasted almost 20 years and only had 36 CATV channels unless you hooked up to 75/300 ohm converters one for VHF and one for UHF connected via 2 way splitter to CATV outlet then you could have 81 chan.
bad solder connection on PCB.
I need to tell someone to fix that
lol
I would be careful when it does that
What a suitable place to try your tv that sparks and could cause a fire. In the bunk of your bosses semi.
Just break it without it plugged in.
Do you still have this broken TV?
I do not.
No tapes, not problem, hand fits just fine
lol
I DON'T SEE IT AS THE TV HAVING FIREWORKS IN IT, IT LOOKS AND SOUNDS MORE LIKE THE TV'S USING A LIGHTER! AFTER ALL, EARLIER IN THIS VIDEO, YOU SAID THE TV WAS SMOKING A WEE BIT!
Maybe if you wouldn't have been pushing through everything, you would've gotten your tape back quickly.
I actually agree.
OH thats probably easy to fix..
Do this on July 4
I think the power supply is dead so if you're careful, maybe you or someone can repair the power supply
Send that to dovetastic so he can microwave it.
Well, considering it's a Funai-made TV, you can't expect much.
Believe it or not Funai is actually more reliable than others despite what you read in the comments.
@@Ih8kone My personal experience with them, *not* what I've read in the comments, has been quite the contrary. A brand new Funai VCR/DVD combo I purchased crapped out after 4 months, and almost every one I've come across at thrift stores and flea markets has been DOA.
bad solder joints I bet...
tack
What do you expect from a Funai product...
Despite what you read in the comments Funai is actually more reliable than others.
I have a question about that what year is that TV. and then The channel is still on it
It was probably a late 90s early 2000
@@DieselDucy from about 2002 made by Funai.
@@DieselDucyi found out the specific vcr issue you had, it was mode switch or tape sensors. The arcing idk about
@harly443 It's an RV
epic fail is you putting a tape in something that you know is broke
N Gauge England -Synthematix-
@nivekevinutz with a couple sparklers!
Emily Poppino
How did it break?
Crappy quality.
20 bugs for this shit? in germany will have no more
dude is that like a 1980s tv? man u should just get a new one
mrsoccer357
i think you are staying in a car is it
Soo.... where's the explosion?
Pay attention to the video
This is exactly what my Magnavox 20 in tv from Walmart did (2006) , and it was ALMOST a year old!!! Naturally, right after the warranty expired (talk about PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE!!!!) It wouldn't turn on, or the picture would flicker (and make that noise). After it sparked it went completely dead. Don't buy ANY Funai products (Magnavox, Sylvania, Symphonic or Emerson) and don't buy tv/ vcr's from Walmart, as Funai products are mostly what Walmart has!!!!!!!!!!!
That looks like a funai to me.
LieoXTFP Channel cmon funai isn’t that bad
It was beautiful but it's been BUSTED!!!! Just like I had trouble with the internet connection on my tablet
David Gessler
Break it!
Lol
Just travel with this 110V TV to Europe, and then plug it in - the 240V will do the rest XD
Plug a 240v device into 110v and it will laugh about u haha
if it wasnt illegal id say drag it behind the truck down the highway lol and film it too but thats not safe so just save it get another tv from walmart or big lots then smash the busted one with a sledge hammer
Well, Sell it! As long as you get the MONEY.
SFS EAS
its on channel 77
