I remember "Thomas the Tank Engine" had a select number of releasses between 1999 and 2000, that were printed on Blue tapes. I remember Legolover117 said these were done to promote the theatrical release of "Thomas and the Magic Railroad" in the summer of 2000.
I grew up with VHS tapes of Barney, Bob the Builder, and VeggieTales. I still have a few Rugrats, a Bob in the Builder one, some VeggieTales and Monsters Inc. Great video.
I'm actually surprised SpongeBob had an orange VHS tape at all. Despite being born Early 2005, I remember watching Nickelodeon and Nick Jr ALOT on VHS when I was little, whether it was in my room with the VCR or at my grandma's house. Most memories with them I can think of are Blues Clues & SpongeBob. Oh yeah and you can't forget the iconic Paramount Feature Presentation bumper too, that gives me nostalgic chills to this day.
For some weird reason, I've always been fascinated by different-coloured VHS tapes, even some I didn't even know existed until just now, like red or pink. I 'member my orange Nick Jr. tapes and my older brother's green VeggieTales tapes/DVD cases. Gives me a rush of nostalgia to see those again. Also worth mentioning is that one particular release of "An Easter Carol" was printed as the only white VT tape; I found out about it on the channel "Andrew's Movie Corner" (AKA "MrAndrewB1998") and one more thing: it's "Phil Vischer" , not "Phil Fisher"
I appreciate the instrumental music for Veggietales as they’re all songs from the show. The one that hit harder was the title card at the end with I can be your friend
This brought back some huge childhood memories! I used to have some of the Lyrick, HiT and Warner Home Video VeggieTales tapes when I was little. Sadly, outside of window-shopping (or window-renting?) them in the library, we never owned most of the other colored tapes, mostly because my parents (especially my dad) opposed to Barney and some of the Nickelodeon shows, especially Spongebob. I was a huge fan of Sesame Street when I was a kid. Most of their tapes were black, with the exceptions of the earlier Random House Home Video releases, which were green. "Don't Eat The Pictures" was the only one I had. When I was little, I was personally more interested in the awesome cover art designs/pictures instead of the tapes themselves. The Sesame Street and "There Goes A..."/Real Wheels were my absolute favorite ones to collect. Now as an adult artist, I make my own pictures and cartoons to collect, so I don't need to collect VHS and DVDs anymore for that reason.
I remember having some VHS tapes back then and even now I have a small collection. They are wonderful good times with those movies I had. The colored VHS tapes looked great especially the red VHS tapes. Cool video. ^_^
In the early 2000s, Fox had colored tapes for copies rented or sold at video stores (Blue for Blockbuster and white for Hollywood Video). For example, I have copies of Super Troopers from Blockbuster and Solaris from Hollywood Video.
I honestly do wonder what things would be like if hit entertainment hadn't bought up so many smaller studios in the early 2000s like lyric and britt Alcroft presents
I've got a few tapes that have different colors. A lot of my VeggieTales tapes are green which is pretty much from The End of Silliness to Lord of the Beans, My Canadian copy of Monsters Inc has a blue tape, and my two Ren and Stimpy tapes are orange.
this is a nostalgic video! I have a soft spot for vhs tapes and I love to collect them when I get the chance. I was literally about to comment down here saying the western Sonic OVA tape is a white one also before it showed up in the video lol
Yeah, DVD only really took over in the early/mid 2000s. By 2012 or so, a lot of people were starting to get into Netflix. DVD really didn't have that long of a reign when you think about it lol
I remember having MANY Rugrats tapes & I loved seeing the orange tapes. Same with the Monsters Inc one. I loved seeing all the different colored VHS tapes; nostalgia definitely came back
If only SpongeBob had yellow tapes instead of the generic black tapes or better yet, Shrek and Shrek 2 having green VHS tapes. That would've been awesome
I’m surprised you never even mentioned the reel colours being black. Whatever VHS tape has black reels is some of the later VHS releases or these Disney/Buena Vista VHS tapes having a blue lid from the early to mid 2000’s.
a little weird thing: At the end of the VeggieTales DVD/VHS - Sumo Of The Opera, they have a certain company "DKP Studios" According to Logopedia, they were responsible for Handy Manny, Nerf N-Strike, Game Over & of course VeggieTales.
Nice. I think that the first movie that I watched was Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf on VHS. That would also make it the first VHS cassette that I saw.
I think "Blue's Clues: Café Blue," "Blue's Big News: Read All About It," "Blue's Big News: The Baby's Here," "Blue's Room: Alphabet Power," "Rugrats Go Wild!" & "Dora The Explorer: Super Babies" are the last VHS tapes to be released in orange videocassettes, right?
0:12-0:13 - The late 70s (In North America and Europe). They originated in Japan in the mid 70s. The first VHS players came out there in September of 1976 (depending on your source)
I live in the UK and have a copy of 101 Dalmatians (the live action one) and the tape is white with black spots like a Dalmatian! And my stepbrother lives in the Dutch speaking area of Belgium and has a Dutch copy of The Lion King, and the tape is purple! 😍
Of all the things to learn, I didn’t expect to learn a company with a logo bumper that weirdly spooked me as a kid (and appears TWICE in some Veggietales VHS) to originate from Texas. The more you know!
I have Monsters Inc on VHS and I think it looks much better on VHS than DVD. I have the DVD first but I really needed the VHS version because DVDs suck to me.
monsters inc blue vhs tape will always be my favorite. also when talking about nick shows on vhs, how come shows like All That, Kenan & Kel, and the Amanda Show weren’t released on vhs??
here in germany fully colored tapes were pretty much exclusive to columbia tristar releases. and then they usually had like 5 variants other publisher either stick to standard black or colored the flap at best but the best colored tape is saw so far, was the japanese (or uk one, had the same style) for the '96 101 dalmatians. white with black spots
Yung Junko found out in his Cars VHS tape video that South Korea made VHS tapes a few years longer and he got the tapes for Ratatouille and Wall•E with both even getting colored tapes. Ratatouille's is yellow with a light blue top and Wall•E's is dark blue.
we never had any orange tapes but we had a lot of green veggietales tapes, and our church made recordings of the 2008 Christmas play on white tapes so we have one of those from back in the day! in more recent years I've also found ones with the colored top piece as well as the blue monsters inc tape at the thrift store, still have yet to get a orange one
I remember as looking through my VHS tapes after not watching blues clues for years. And that day I found the orange blues clues arts and craft VHS tape, and I was like “I FOUND THE HOLY GRAIL”.
Madeline and the Toy Factory - White Bob the Builder: Can We Fix It? - Yellow The Princess Diaries, Bear in the Big Blue House: Heroes of Woodland Valley and Kim Possible: The Secret Files - Blue Spine
I never understood why they didn’t make a clear vhs tape. Lots of cassette tapes were clear so it only seems natural. To this day I’ll always choose a VHS over a DVD.
I have two yellow tapes (Lenny And Sid and Musicland Band). I do have a Bob The Builder tape but it's homemade and not official. I also have two red tapes (Both of them are Kingdom Of Goode). And I have an orange Little Bear tape. My Piglet's Big Movie tape has a blue top. Three of my tapes are dark green and are of a show called Ribbits and my lighter green tapes are all VeggieTales. All of my other tapes are completely black.
I have a 2004 reprint of the live action George of the Jungle movie and that one has the blue top. Only Disney and a few Sony Pictures VHS tapes had the blue tops in their VHS tapes. I think Universal also had blue tops in their tapes too
I didn't know Hit Entertainment bought the rights to Veggie Tales that's interesting. Also are you a Christian since in this video you talked about Veggie Tales?
Think of all the cool stuff that's lost forever because it's on VHS.. And some VHS releases were much better than their DVD counterpart, not to mention the editions that weren't re-released elsewhere.
Amazing video ! I have a some cool coloured tapes of my own, the coolest of them being a TEAC cleaning tape that is transparent emerald green. Tthe TEAC video head cleaner QP-86 for those that want it )

I remember having 90% black VHS tapes and 10% colored VHS tapes.
I didn’t know Cars and Monsters INC were on VHS. I got them on DVD.

Yeah, seeing as SpongeBob is Nickelodeon's biggest franchise.
Same! Watched a whole bunch of Disney classics on VHS.
i definitely remember having orange blues clues tapes and white barney tapes when i was little
Same here I love the white Barney tapes. I love the colour
I like your profile pic
I remember those tapes too!

The Godfather Part 3 had a brownish gold color.

This was a great idea for a video. Fun stuff!

I’m surprised you never even mentioned the reel colours being black. Whatever VHS tape has black reels is some of the later VHS releases or these Disney/Buena Vista VHS tapes having a blue lid from the early to mid 2000’s.

I think the main reason VeggieTales tapes were green because a lot of the main characters are green.

a fact to mention for the paramount tapes especially the later ones the only time that the tape would be orange is if it was recycled
7:15 that stock photo of Barney is on my barney shirt & my Chinese dvd boxset
God VHS was the greatest video format ever! I mean sometimes it isn't about quality but experience
They say that DVD has better picture quality, but I don't know if it's true or not. There's no bitrate and pixelization on VHS.
Dude I feel so old I remember my childhood like it was yesterday
I'm honestly surprised Barney tapes weren't purple like Barney

Also the last orange Nickelodeon tape was Rugrats Go Wild
Hey, why don’t you do a video of Jim Henson’s Animal Jam.
I have a reason why I hate DVDs. Main reason is because They can get scratched, skip, and break very easily.
Madeline and the Toy Factory - White
Bob the Builder: Can We Fix It? - Yellow
The Princess Diaries, Bear in the Big Blue House: Heroes of Woodland Valley and Kim Possible: The Secret Files - Blue Spine
The orange Nickelodeon tapes are goated
