You have inspired me to start a career in blacksmithing. I am 15 and have just recently got hired for a part time job working for a local blacksmith, all because you inspired me.
Good man
Good for you! Congratulations on your job
I'm almost jealous, I'm 27 and am already set in my career after finding a love for this. Now it's bout saving money to get my own smith shop up and running combined with taking classes for blacksmithing. You've got so much time ahead of you, stay committed and you could make some incredible stuff
I wish I had that when I was your age , I didn’t start until I way 23 , I wish I knew I wanted to do this when I was in school so I could have mapped it out better , but it’s never too late
Good luck dude it’s a great feeling making something out of “ a piece of old metal “
@@Xener09 haha me too man I’m now 25 and
Juggling work along with buying tools etc etc
I wanted to make swords but that’s just not practical for my time and resources, these smaller projects are within my skills at the moment, I’ve made knives but I got bored with straight lines 🤣
I really liked the combination of the verbal instruction added with the text at the bottom editing
The step up in production quality for your videos is not unnoticed sir. Well done.
당신이 만든 투박한 단조제품들은 센터도 정확히 맞지않고 면도 고르지 않습니다.
그런데 그게 아름답고 사람 미치게 하는 매력이 있습니다.
항상 아껴보고 있습니다. 건강하세요.
I like the design. One could put all sorts of things at the ends. Leaves, animal heads, scrolls. Make it an × or a curved ×/+. Nice. Oh and good recommendation on that PBS vid!🍻
The change for the patreon subscribers is an excellent idea. This provides a free great blacksmithing video on UA-cam, and for those who want to support, or just want to invest in their blacksmithing career can pay a small amount for even more detailed info. Good compromise!
Too bad I have terminal cancer because I'd love to make the split cross church handle. Beautiful job
This same design, slightly modified, would make a great door knocker!
Definitely!
that is what i really want to make.
63 years old just starting and find your videos instructive entertaining. I hope you don't change them to much.
You have taught me so much very appreciated
You must have a big door thats enourmous!
I found your videos because my favorite podcasters watched and really liked them. I’m glad they did! Good job sir!
Welcome aboard!
The fact that you reference the MSDS of a product ... stellar! (I"m an EHS Advisor) You rock.
5 inches, Like you knew what you were doing :)
A little imagination, some hammering and viola, ya take a few pieces of metal and turn them into something useful. Isn’t that what it’s all about. Well done.
Awesome video ! Thank you
Your videos have taught me so much
Built me an epic Treasure Chest for yourself! Metal frame, lock, handles and the other hardware! Wood lined! Many Blessings!
Awesome as usual. Thank You...:)
Nice work John, i really like that. That door pull would look right at home on the door of an old church as well as the huge wood doors of an old castle or mission.
Looking forward to this video John .
Very cool John!
That's a beautiful, well made piece! Thanks for the instruction! Your videos keep getting better and better.
great vid
Your punch stand is awesome.Beautiful design👍👍👍👍
Nice! I love your videos.
It turned out great John!
Thanks for your time imparting your knowledge, a lot of stuff on technology on this one over my head but a good project.
Thats really nice
This guy is the original Ron Swanson.
Great video sir I loved how that cross came out.
Excelente trabajo, te felicito.
Nice John thanks for sharing God bless you and yours 🙏 stay safe out there
Nice job, fairly easy to make a latch with that design. Thanks John.
Great instruction really enjoyable shame that this art is being lost folks today would buy cheap tat then complain that it didn’t last ,you are one of the few true craftsman left sorry for the ramble from an old fart stay safe👨🏻🏭uk
The good news is that there seems to be more people taking up blacksmithing all of the time. Most are primarily interested in knives, but its still encouraging.
Wow John that turns out very nice ,you could make a number things out of that design.
I liked the fact that you said you could easily make the offset for the center bar under the fly press, but instead chose to show how to make it on the anvil for those of us who don't have a fly press! I don't own one but the club does but due to the shut down, no access to it
Enjoyed it a lot John, the chat was awesome and so fast! The video, I need to watch again later as I saw almost none of it trying to keep up! You and the wife stay well, early AM here now and way past my pumpkin hour!
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
I need to make a door pull for my shed... I think something like this would work great, awesome video =)
I could easily see this (slightly modified) hanging as a door knocker on an ancient cathedral or an old Spanish mission. It would be simple to make this into a cross, and I could imagine it hanging on a door three inches thick.
As for doing extended videos for Patreon supporters, I think that's a great idea. I don't (currently) support anyone on Patreon, but extended videos are a good way to give those who support you something extra.
Also, the text descriptions are great. Plus, they aren't so fast that I'm having to stop the video, back up a few seconds (or having to pause the video (or both)) just to read them. I think it fits well with your videos, and your style.
Thanl you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. I have learned so much from you,
Thank you for sharing this project. Inspirational as always.
Thanks for watching!
That is a great piece of art!
Thanks
Another awesome video John, and a beautiful project!
Glad you like it!
Doing a more in-depth video for your Patreon supporters sounds like a great idea, also what a beautiful project, it came out great!
I really like that design John. I was thinking it would make a good lift latch for a barn door too. Just make the ten on about 3" long. Good job John. Take care and God bless. Keep safe.
You make this looking so easy. Very well done!
Thank you! 😊
Hello John
Thanks for the Video and sharing your skills and you creativity with us
You are a very good teacher and you had shown me alot of things in Blacksmithing
Thank you very much
I hope you feel well and all is in order as it had to be
Best wishes and a good new week
Yours Frank
I've seen almost every one of your videos over the past few years and I've always given you a thumbs up to watch your channel grow. I was aware that you will advertise sponsors one day and I will grant you the success. But please don't hide your art behind a pay wall. I just love to watch you and I like the long videos!
Great video John, really a good looking project.👍👍 Excellent presentation 👍👍. Thanks for sharing with us, we enjoyed watching.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great looking ring. Once I get all my gear I would love to get to be as good at it as you are. Love watching your videos
Thanks 👍
A keyhole of similar desing is depicted in the coat of arms of Karstula, Finland, so I'd say the desing has been around in northern Europe.
John that ring hanger turned out very well keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work great to see ur videos always great to see forge on my friend
Thanks 👍
Black Bear Forge ur very welcome my friend forge on
If it had a pad it could make a magnificent knocker.
Sorry I couldn’t stay long for the premiere, I had to take my son to see the fish. This is a very pretty handle
No worries, UA-cam can always be watched later
Hello sir. Stop by to say hello. Will see the video later 👍👍👍👍
Good morning
Good morning Sir and I to come
Morning
It has been awhile since I have had time to sit and watch one of your videos John.. Very very nice work.. We are enjoying your figure eight knot hook you made us.. It sits in a place of honor holding a nice flower pot in the house here in our dining room window.. You have such great talent I miss watching every video you make.. but the winter is coming and I will get a chance to catch up.. thanks again for sharing your talents with us.. Carry on my brother..
Welcome back!
@@BlackBearForge thank you my brother I appreciate that..
John, with the addition of a striker device (think another shouldered square plug) to the ring, or on the plate where the ring would land, you could have a ring door striker.
Very true. This is one of those things that can be adapted in many ways
Could you make a video while making a hammer hook for belt . Thanks
what a great project john. thanks heaps for it. always thinking of alternate ways to do things i wonder for that cross over piece if you could lay it across, hold it down with your hold fast and use your set hammers to make the set downs on either side. might stop it jumping around on you. Just thinking out loud is all.
Personally I would just set up the same jig clamped to the flypress table and do the whole thing in one squish
@@BlackBearForge that would sure make short work of it!
Hi John Tinkering or Stakes Tools are essential in my Shop, so I'm wondering about others need to learn how to make Stake Tools?
Hi John! I’ve been away from the craft briefly and came straight back to your channel! I new I would get inspiration here yet again and what an awesome piece! So many possible applications for it, I see it ceiling mounted underneath a wood beam entryway as a lighting fixture mount! Thanks again for the great content and lessons. Take care stay happy and healthy 👍
Welcome back
I would like to be a patreon but then I would have to be there for Roy and Dan and Alex Steele and Valhalla I have bought downloads from Roy lessons and tools from Dan would love one of Valhalla’s knives but unless I win the lottery I guess I will have to try making one myself yours was the first UA-cam blacksmith channel I came across 3 years ago and feel guilty I have not contributed but my grandson has benefited from the lessons I have learned from you
No pressure at all. Its sort of like contributing to PBS, some can manage to help out so that the work continues.
The tenon and monkey tool makes me wonder if you could forge weld a bar to the inside of a pipe, very easily or super hard to get to weld?
I am sure its been done that way.
Thanks another great video. I enjoyed it.
btw I have quastion. I tried shooting my work. but i had heating problem of camera. I used Nicon’s mirrorless J5.
Which model you using mainly? I saw sony & cannon, please tell me specific
While in shootinf didn’t you have same problem? if you did how solved it?
I have not had an overheating problem. I do shoot in 1080p which should be less likely to overheat. My cameras are Canon M50s I talk a bit about them in this video ua-cam.com/video/dtUpKmp-xZs/v-deo.html
I love your videos! I thought you weren’t supposed to hit a hammer with another hammer? Is that cutting hammer different somehow?
A hot cut is not a hammer. This video might help with any confusion - ua-cam.com/video/7wmcAFhnt6U/v-deo.html
What kind of finish would you recommend for using in a kitchen or bathroom?
I generally just use a wax finish and re apply when needed. But paint or powder coating would be longer lasting
I have a question about the monkey tool. What's the purpose of the hole that appears to be drilled in the side? Does that keep the piece from sticking?
Is there a video on this channel about forging all the letters from the alphabet? My close friends are having a baby this year and I wanted to forge the name for their wall or somewhere
I have never tried, but it does seem like I've seen it in a book, which doesn't narrow it won much.
@@BlackBearForge Ok, well thanks for the response good sir.
Are you up for adopting a 42 year old beginner blacksmith? I'll pay my rent on time
Where did the "my videos are now, and always will be FREE go?
I thought it was explained in this video that you were able to watch for free. What you will see on UA-cam isn't likely to change just because I am providing those people contributing to the process through Patreon with a little extra. Everything I have ever posted on UA-cam is still right where it always was and still free. The reality is I earn an income I can live on or I stop making videos all together.
I didn't watch this video because of the commercials! Thumbs down!!!
its always nice to know there are people who expect to consume the product I produce for free and then complain when the advertisers pay the bills.
As a hobby blacksmith with a full time job I really admire you for having the comittment to do this full time. Anything you can do to get extra income and value add for your subscribers can only be a good thing IMO. Keep up the good work. Your videos are a wonderful resource for anyone that is into blacksmithing and I have learnt a great deal from them. Well done John.
