@@BlackBearForge I have a question for you! I've browsed your videos looking for one about what sizes of stock you keep on hand. Is there one? If not, I am curious what sizes of stock you would recommend a beginner keep in their shop.
I enjoy your videos a great deal. That braided twist is what a handspinner would call a 2x3 cabled ply. The existence of cabled yarns pre-dates the Bronze age, so I wonder if some smith looked at what his mother, sister and/or wife was doing with her yarn and thought "bet I could do that at the forge, too..."
"It's amazing how much easier things move when they're hot". This reminded me my first hot-smithing steel after months of cold-working on copper. I was like- wait, shouldn't steel be harder to work on?
Thank you so much. Love learning black smithing from your vids. A little tip. When twisting tieing wire always twist it clock wise if you're right handed. If you tie rebar all day your arm will die twisting wire the wrong way.
Amazing. Your videos make me wish I had enough time to do some smithing. I've only done some very basic rudimentary stuff in the past. You really are an artist in iron.... well steel.
Really fine-looking twist! So simple yet so, to use your word, MYSTIFYING! Beautiful! I will try this very soon! Thanks, John! Your expertise and knowledge should be in a book! Thanks for the videos!
Hey there John. I know I'm way late here with my comment but maybe next time put a hose clamp on the ends there and that might make things a little easier for you. Great job on the braiding too! Well done sir.
After finding your videos and finding a local metal supplier with perfect drops for blacksmithing cheap I am now just waiting for my local Forge to open for the year and I can't wait to make this and confuse other blacksmiths. Absolutely fantastic channel, subscribed and I subscribe to almost nothing
I begining today try weld, used borax but had trouble....Rewatching this replay make me think maybe I try to soon , Next time going hotter watching for yellow heat. You a good trainer and I playing safe always good to fear hot things we work near. Thanks you Sir
Really appreciate ur videos. I have yet to put hammer to steel. I’m still building my forge. But I still sit up all night with a glass of bourbon enjoying ur videos. Thank you.
THANK YOU FOR A GREAT VIDEO IT BRINGS BACK MEMORIES, MY GRANDFATHER WAS A BLACKSMITH I USED TO TURN THE CRANK FOR THE BLOWER WHEN HE WORKED. MAN THAT WAS FIFTY YEARS AGO...................THANK YOU AGAIN
i guess im randomly asking but does anyone know a tool to get back into an instagram account?? I stupidly lost my account password. I appreciate any tips you can offer me
@Cash Cristiano I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm trying it out atm. Takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
That's a very nice outcome. I have not done this yet, and had no idea how it was done. I think maybe there must be 2 or 3 John Switzers running around there, as much as you get done. Excellent video!
Thank you!.... I did this years ago... but forgot how to do it! Easy Peasy! :) I love all your videos.... been so long since I have done it.... have some time to get back into it now... :)
Thats really neat John. I have to try that. I wouldn't have ever thought it was 3 double twisted pieces twisted. It really does look much more complex. Thanks as always for the lesson.
Awesome video, I just recently learned of forge welding and I'm really loving watching it done. It definitely is a worthy craft and I'm just loving that braided twist, awesome video, thanks!
-really enjoyed this vidio. Looking forward to trying this out, as soon as N. Calif. stops burning up! Ive put together a makeshift charcoal forge outside but don't dare light it up under current conditions. Three major fires in the Shasta Co. area.
I lit up my forge just the other week, I'm up in Burney though. I still wetted down the whole area and then some with my hose though. Not taking any chances. Ended up saving my neighbor after he put way too much lighter fluid on his BBQ, ended up lighting part of the house on fire. Nothing serious but I was glad I was there.
Another good one my friend. I really like the view of the new wall mount gives a great prospective on the shop and the anvil. Thx again for sharing.....Paul
Congratulations from Spain. I have learned a lot with your video, besides being very entertaining. Thank you very much for sharing your skills and knowledge. Great job!
Would have never thought that’s the way a twist like this is made. Absolutely beautiful and brilliant
I feel like watching Bob Ross with an "iron brush". Relaxing video, you make everything look so easy. Excellent work!
This guy is probably the best UA-cam instructor I have come across. I learn so much. And his content is consistently good.
I was gonna say the same this guy has some Bob Ross energy
This channel is criminally undersubscribed. Thanks for all of your effort!
I appreciate that!

So nice to see him knowing what he is doing.... I ll whatch all his vids. Thanks a lot.
That braided twist handle is a thing of beauty.
Thanks
you're the reason i want to start blacksmithing too. Thank you for that John:)
I enjoyed this. Other than the sweat, heat, and burning myself every three minutes, this might become a hobby!
The sweat and heat isn't so bad in the winter.
I know i was stumped by this but like all your videos you make it look easy thanks for the upload.
Glad to help
Yeah these are the videos that make me continue to want to work metal
You're definitely an artist
It’s been a long time since the last time I have been forging. I’m dying to start again when I see this.
Once I get a forge setup it looks like a fun project to make a chipping hammer for arc welding
I forgot how wild that looked at the end haha I watched this the day you released it, STILL haven't tried it!!! Lol Maybe tonight tho?
Thank you so much. Love learning black smithing from your vids.
A little tip. When twisting tieing wire always twist it clock wise if you're right handed. If you tie rebar all day your arm will die twisting wire the wrong way.
That's probably the most awesome technique I've seen so far.
Look up a rubies twist. Not as cool but still a beautiful twist.
1:00 in and see a twisting wrench I need that I might be able to make! Absolutely love your videos!
Wow, that's amazing work. Highly inspired
great idea on the braid. surprised how simple it was in the end. thanks.

Your expertise and knowledge should be in a book!
Thanks for the videos!
i was weirdly proud of bein able to figure out how to do it just by looking at it (for reference ive never hit a hot piece of metal with a hammer)
Hey there John. I know I'm way late here with my comment but maybe next time put a hose clamp on the ends there and that might make things a little easier for you. Great job on the braiding too! Well done sir.
Greetings from New Jersey, stumbled upon you video, like what I saw. 👍
Thanks for coming

Another fine job, John. I so love watching you with a hand hammer and your narration is just right- no info I don't need.
Dave
Just the right time, just bought some 1/4 rod to do exactly that but had no idea how, this saved me a lot of trial and error!
Nice video. Another youTube teacher. Thanks.
Really like your channel......makes me miss my Dad who could do a lot of what you do.....it's an art and I hope it's not lost in my lifetime.
A work of art
thanks
Nothing short of amazing, sure looks like it's actually braided. Thanks John.
It really does look tricky to do if you don't know how. Cheers for that John!

Just the one, but if I can figure out how to clone myself, it might be an idea. 🤔
Cool twist

Seems like fire season has been going on for months

I love this thanks for the video! I had a request for a fire poker but I didn’t want a wooden handle so I think I’ll go with this!
So good
Great video.
Thank you John for this technique. also for the different camera angles showing your tool storage methods. Bravo
Great project... enjoyed watching it.
wow that looks like way more work than it was! Great Demo!!!
Gonna try that. Thanks John
If that was a handle of a knife that would be awesome!!!
awesome work. i love how the cam is picking up the heat waves of the parts. shows how hot things are even when its cooled down.
