I couldn’t be bothered to look up what kindling splitter meant, so i sat through the whole video without a clue what kind of contraption this would become. Now i know and have to say: very nifty!
Blacksmith is the most ancient profession ever . It’s an art combined with knowledge, wisdom, experience, expertise, dedication, integrity, honesty, attention to minute details, and , above all, safety and patience.
Thanks. Really appreciate that you share your craftsmanship doing useful domestic stuff. Imo, it's much more fun than swords and gigantic knives (with all respect to people who love cold weapon :-)
My father was a blacksmith and a welder. I watched him make and repair many, many things during my lifetime. I never saw him make a thing like this. I really wish he was alive to see this video. I think he would have tried to make one the next day. Because of my father I know a bit more about blacksmithing than most, and this device is a tool and a work of art too. I don't need kindling, but I still want one one of these devices.
Learned about what a kindling splitter is .. and about pine tar as a finish! Thanks so much for this video. Good therapy too, my forge is down for a couple weeks while I build a shop for winter!
This is a very safe way of splitting kindling, and the design of this one is excellent, but, it does require a lot of equipment to make! Many thanks for posting this. Chris B.
I always enjoy seeing one of your videos arrive. I've seen similar kindling splitters but nothing as beautiful and stylish as yours. Your blacksmithing channel is my very favorite. This spring I'm hoping to get started on my blacksmithing shop. Thank you for what you do. Many blessings my friend.
Wonderful work, AND great cinematography. My granddad was a blacksmith from 1910 to 1957. But I never got to see him work. Vids like this help me to connect to him.
As always my friend, such a pleasure to watch. Wonderful craftsmanship and a spark of humor . You are such an asset to the UA-cam community. Thank you so much for sharing your work.
I like how everyone of your projects fulfill the need to make life easier, faster, or more beautiful. we still need more of the three. Keep up the good work.....
MVH Theresa
Always a treat Torbjorn! Love the design, its efficiency, and handy to use. The artisanship in the curve, finger clearance, cleats and leaf petal anchor is what makes your work such a treasure. Wishing you and your family a warm and cozy time until spring arrives. ~PJ
*Wow I love it when people come up with great ideas and then invent them. This is one of them inventions. That is a great Kindling cutter invention & awesome to have on the wall & also right beside your woodpile. There is a kiwi teenage girl, who also invented a kindling cutter that is bolted onto the huge chopping block.*
Even up to the very end before you put a piece of wood in there i had no idea what you made. Now i get it and i love it! Thanks for the awesome content and a beautiful build. now i see what you intended to use the side set tool for!
Very nice! That pine tar finish is pretty amazing. I have to confess I didn't know how it would be used until you showed it towards the end of the video.
Even better than using a fro to make kindling. A hatchet is both the most common and most dangerous way. You're a smart man who keeps all his fingers. Well done.
Well done video. Beautiful work. The "trammel" (the back piece with the "steps") was the main interest to me. He forged that flawlessly. (I've tried similar forging for fireplace trammels and found it challenging.) Newbies should be aware that there's no need for such at tool for splitting wood into kindling, albeit that it's a very nice tool.
Your videos are mesmerizing and expertly produced. And your craftsmanship speaks for itself. The other blacksmiths I watch on UA-cam have either slowed down production or stopped entirely so I appreciate the fact that you’re still producing these great videos.
This video doesn't just show what the set too was for, but answers a really old question I have had. I saw one of these in an antique shop and had no idea what it was. The shop owner couldn't figure it out either. Now I know what it is, and I think I might add something like this to my offerings when I actually start Smithing in about a month.
1:30 And here we see the blacksmith in his natural habitat doing battle with his most dreadful enemy, the sharp corner. 1) I am absolutely astounded by the sheer genius of this simple looking tool. I think I could sit and watch a whole video of you just chopping up kindling to be honest. 2) always fun to see a tool used that was made in a previous video.
Blacksmithing skills don't happen overnight. Thanks for taking us along and job well done. Regarding splitter, I make my kindling with 16" straight grain Fir and my Sager Double bit Cruiser's Axe.
What a beautiful and ingenious tool! The video was such a pleasure to watch, particularly the creation of the rivet/hinge and the metal shavings circling around in the hemispheric depression. I certainly would have liked to have this tool when I was a child. We burned so much wood back then.
I have to think if i lived in all that snow i would have become a ɓlack smith instead of a carpenter. Also that was one beautiful anvil. Never seen one that big before
Amazing blacksmithing skills! I love watching Torbjörn Åhman's videos. He always creates such beautiful and functional pieces. This kindling splitter is no exception. The craftsmanship and attention to detail are impressive. Keep up the great work, Torbjörn!
I love watching you work. I don't really have a clue why you do something, why you use the power hammer instead of the hand, but watching you create is a real joy. Thanks
Thanks!! When the power hammer moves the metal it looks kind of effortless, and it is because I would have used 50-100 swings of a hand hammer (and triple amount of fuel) to make something the power hammer does in one blow.
Stunning craftsmanship. Never seen one of those before, but now that I have I can’t help but wonder how that’s the case. Form meets function in a way that makes it so safe that even a child could use it. Amazing!
How much would the splitter cost me Sir ??? I live in U.S.A. You are a real craftsman Sir. I just love watching you make things. The easy quick way things happen for you shows your talent with red hot metal. The part that I really like is your power hammer. What brand and model is the unit Sir ?? Keep up the great work Sir.
I love your videos it's a pleasure to see your work with wood, metal, carpentry, your garden and greenhouse. Not to mention your ability as a chef. I would like to see you make a pitchfork so I could follow along and see how it's done, keep up the good work.
Simply... wow! Working daily on CNC machine design, I'm rapt by the beauty of your works. Cutting metal with mills is rude if compared to your sculpting. Bravo!
Glad we didn’t have one of those when I was a kid, my sisters would have stuck my head in it.
Ingenious! As always a beautiful piece of art Torbjiorn!
Ha ha! Thanks
There is no cure for mischievous sisters!😅
I couldn’t be bothered to look up what kindling splitter meant, so i sat through the whole video without a clue what kind of contraption this would become. Now i know and have to say: very nifty!
😊
Same.
Me too!!
same here
Ditto!
I swear I could sit and watch your work all day. What a cool and interesting tool to make a repetive task quick and easy!
Blacksmith is the most ancient profession ever . It’s an art combined with knowledge, wisdom, experience, expertise, dedication, integrity, honesty, attention to minute details, and , above all, safety and patience.
Once I saw it in operation, my childhood self became extremely jealous. Forget my favourite hatchet, I needed one of these 20 years ago.
The hollow thump the wood makes is super satisfying. Nice piece, stylish and functional!!!
So true, both “stylish and functional “.👍
For me, it's the bouncy hammer on the anvil sound. Makes me happy.
I love the finger protection measures! Such clever. As always, a gorgeous fabrication. Thank you for sharing it.
Thank you!
Never seen a kindling splitter before. It does an amazing job!! Wish I had one about fifty years ago.
Thanks. Really appreciate that you share your craftsmanship doing useful domestic stuff. Imo, it's much more fun than swords and gigantic knives (with all respect to people who love cold weapon :-)
Thank you very much Dmitry! It means a lot!
I LIKE THAT " --- IT WILL REPAY YOU FOR EVER NOW - THE HARD WORK MAKES EASY WORK LATER DOWN THE LINE -- THUMBS UP "
Absolutely beautiful contours and shapes. Your designs are so elegant while fulfilling the needs of the tool.
Thank you so much!
Blacksmithing is like sculpting, it's an art and only those who have an eye for art will see it. Beautiful tool made by artist not just blacksmith.
I suspected this video would get made after the side set tool was made. Very inspiring as always!
Als altem Metaller wärmt das mein Herz. Danke! As an old metalworker myselfe this warms my heart. Thank you!
Ich bin auch ein alter Metaller aber der andere Sorte! 🤟🤟😁
I’ve worked metal for close to 40 years a first rate job! Very well done!
Thanks Daniel!
I like to see the Japanese and Torbjörn handling the iron and I am more and more impressed. Congratulations!!!!
أعمالك من أجمل ما يكون اتابعك من العراق 🇮🇶
this came up in my recommendations - this is what UA-cam was ment for - showcasing a work of beauty and function - thank you for sharing this with us
Cool, thanks!!
It’z spelt “meant”, nat ‘ment’.

Thanks! Good luck with the shop!
@@torbjornahman You as well, Sir. Appreciate it!
Thunder Bear never disappoints!
I am in complete agreement with you!!

@Danijelovski Kanal I don’t know if that is your true name but it’s pretty damn cool also.
@Danijelovski Kanal Sounds pretty cool!

Glad to hear that! Good luck setting it up! Thanks
You don't make useful tools you make useful work of ART thank you and please keep it up .
Wonderful work, AND great cinematography. My granddad was a blacksmith from 1910 to 1957. But I never got to see him work. Vids like this help me to connect to him.
My son told me he wants to become a blacksmith, your a great inspiration to him. Thank you
:) Cool! Say hi to him from me!
Your work and attention to detail is amazing
Thank you!
Very clever execution. Every firewood shed should have one!
As always my friend, such a pleasure to watch. Wonderful craftsmanship and a spark of humor . You are such an asset to the UA-cam community.
Thank you so much for sharing your work.
Thank you very much Robert! Very kind words!
No flattering in this comment. Simply awesome video. I really enjoyed this one.....final product.... beautiful
I like how everyone of your projects fulfill the need to make life easier, faster, or more beautiful. we still need more of the three. Keep up the good work.....
I am a novice blacksmith myself and we are just moving to Colorado this year. Totally going to try this. Thanks for sharing!
Cool!

Wow, tack Theresa! Ledsen att det tog två veckor för mig att svara bara... Fantastiskt kul om man kan hjälpa någon på det sättet.
Mate, thanks. Both my kid and I seriously get a kick outta your videos
Great! Say hi from me!
Always a treat Torbjorn! Love the design, its efficiency, and handy to use. The artisanship in the curve, finger clearance, cleats and leaf petal anchor is what makes your work such a treasure. Wishing you and your family a warm and cozy time until spring arrives. ~PJ
Thanks PJ!! The sun is warming and the new solar panels are producing so spring is clearly around the corner.

It's a normal design in Scandinavia
Even up to the very end before you put a piece of wood in there i had no idea what you made. Now i get it and i love it!

Glad you liked it!
Same here. The whole video I was thinking; “Now how is this tool going to work?” 🤔
Very nice! That pine tar finish is pretty amazing. I have to confess I didn't know how it would be used until you showed it towards the end of the video.
Wieder ein Werkzeug hergestellt für eine perfekte Handwerkskunst......Danke für das Video ein Meister seines Faches
What an excellent way to spend a freezing day! Keeping warm while making a machine to cut wood to keep you warm.
you forge so clean and accurate, and it's always satisfying to watch.
Even better than using a fro to make kindling. A hatchet is both the most common and most dangerous way. You're a smart man who keeps all his fingers. Well done.
Amazing. I wish my dad had something like this when I was a kid in Alaska back in the 80's. Lol. Thank you for your videos.
I have to admit that until the end I really didnt see how this was going to work. Thank you for sharing. Charles
That works a treat! Wonderful video as always! :)
Thanks Neil! It's a simple tool with it's limitations, but a fun build!
My English is not so good so I never knew what you made until I saw the end of the video. Nice invention 🤩 and good video too
Thanks!
I recall seeing a version of this several years ago and have been thinking of making one. It was a pleasure to watch you build this one. Wonderful.
Well done video. Beautiful work.
The "trammel" (the back piece with the "steps") was the main interest to me. He forged that flawlessly. (I've tried similar forging for fireplace trammels and found it challenging.)

This Old Tony Sensei has taught you well in the ways of cutting metal.
Yes, the master is good....

Splendid. Simply splendid.
I always enjoy your videos, thank you very much for sharing some of your work and life with us. I wish you and your family all the best!
Thanks Michael!
Omg! I love this channel so much. i've become inspired to be a blacksmit by my Grandpa but this. this makes me work harder !
Sweet! That is fantastic! Good luck!
Incredible. I love it. Thank you, for sharing it

You're quite right, the upset square corner, is a beast.... Thanks!!
Un magnífico trabajo. Muchas felicidades! Greetings from Barcelona, Spain.❤️
works better than I expected. Definitely good looking. thanks, I enjoyed watching
En tocken får dä bli på vägga brevé spisen !
Fantastiskt snyggt arbete Torbjörn !
Its all in the details as usual 🤩👏🏻✨
Blacksmithing skills don't happen overnight. Thanks for taking us along and job well done. Regarding splitter, I make my kindling with 16" straight grain Fir and my Sager Double bit Cruiser's Axe.
قمه في الروعه والجمال والبداع 👍👍👍⚘🕊🇸🇩🇸🇩🇸🇩🕊🕊 احله تحيه من أم درما ني سوداني
I've wanted one of these for so long! And the fact that you can make one in 15 minutes means that I could pry make one in 30. 🙂
:)
Glad to see you back! This is a beautiful piece. I assume it would be useful for making tool handle blanks as well.
Samurai kindling splitter, nicely done, another beautiful work of usable Art
Utsökt hantverk, som vanligt!
Tack Patrik!
Nice and handy tool, pleasure to watch. Totally Åwesome as always!👍🏻
Very impressive! I am learning a lot from your videos.
Awesome, thank you!
OK....I have to be honest ....I had no clue how it would work...but that works the treat!
Beautiful Torbjorn! Works great!
Beautiful work, as always!

I certainly would have liked to have this tool when I was a child. We burned so much wood back then.
More stickers, going to need a mailing address.
Indeed! Anyone interested is welcome to contact me with a PM on IG/FB or on my web page! :) :)

Восхищаюсь этим человеком!
I have to think if i lived in all that snow i would have become a ɓlack smith instead of a carpenter. Also that was one beautiful anvil. Never seen one that big before

Love to hear to hear sounds of those hammers!!!
Great job as always!!!
I always enjoy you craftsmanship! Thank you for sharing.
Greetings from NE rural Ohio, USA 🇺🇸
I love watching you work. I don't really have a clue why you do something, why you use the power hammer instead of the hand, but watching you create is a real joy. Thanks
An arm has only so many swings.
Thanks!! When the power hammer moves the metal it looks kind of effortless, and it is because I would have used 50-100 swings of a hand hammer (and triple amount of fuel) to make something the power hammer does in one blow.
Nice project. And probably suoer helpful around a smiths shop
Absolutely the best metal worker in the business. JC🌵
:) Thanks John!
Stunning craftsmanship. Never seen one of those before, but now that I have I can’t help but wonder how that’s the case. Form meets function in a way that makes it so safe that even a child could use it. Amazing!
That gives me a couple great ideas for my sister's homestead kitchen. Awesome work Buddy.
Awesome! Thank you!
What a brilliant little tool
Looks great 👍. Now build a splinter tweezer holder to mount next to it. They always come in handy.
Ha ha, good tip!
Thats a real nice tool and it was fun to see how it,s made. It,s amazing, how fast the snow melts at your place.
Thanks! I know, swooosh, and it's gone... :)
The way that the spring steel takes form so effortlessly is very satisfying
It’s so amazing how far you could go with just hammering. I was impressed from the start when you made that clean right angle bend.
Yes, but it also takes a lot of work! :) Corners like that are not easy...
Bloody brilliant 👏 I learn something new everytime I watch your videos

Thanks!! It's an old Bêché hammer, 75kg.
That is one of the most clever tools i have seen!
I love your videos it's a pleasure to see your work with wood, metal, carpentry, your garden and greenhouse. Not to mention your ability as a chef. I would like to see you make a pitchfork so I could follow along and see how it's done, keep up the good work.
Thank you Ken! Good suggestion, it's on my list I think.
Love how you people make things for soft wood.
Try doing that with Australian Jarrah or Karri.
I could use that splitter all day. Very Nice build
Beautiful form and function!
Very nice result and you make it look so easy!
I so need one of those! Brilliant video. Thank you.
Simply... wow!
Working daily on CNC machine design, I'm rapt by the beauty of your works.
Cutting metal with mills is rude if compared to your sculpting.
Bravo!
Cool, thanks!
My Dad made something like that 40 years ago brings back memories very safe to use
