I saw them in 1979 when I was 9. Sammy Hagar opened for them. It wasn't my first concert, just the first concert I have a memory of. I thought I was such a badass the next day at school because I had gone to a rock concert the night before.😂
My mom and her boyfriend went to a Boston concert then stopped at the pizza place he owned to make themselves a pizza. It was closed, but when they were getting ready to leave, Boston pulled up in the parking lot and asked if they could get some pizza!! Of course the answer was yes, so Mom made them pizza and smoked a joint with them. They gave her a t-shirt and belt buckle, which she wore every day after that! She said they were really cool and had some good smoke!!
This song was huge back in the late 1970s, it was released in 1976. It's a fabulous song great vocals, great guitars and really melodic riff, instantly recognisable and memorable. Boston is an American rock band formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1975. The genre is hard rock/arena rock. Thanks for the reaction, Anthony. 😊😊
1976. College was a difficult time. Four hours on the bus back and forth, five days a week. My cousin lent me the album of Boston. Blew me away first listen. I played the whole album everyday after school. The music just took me far away from the difficulties of each day. My younger brother had a garage band. I borrowed his guitar and taught myself to play More Than A Feeling. I never did return the album to my cousin as I wore out the record. Had to buy two new albums, one for him and one I took with me when I moved to Canada in 1979. My first ever concert in Vancouver was BOSTON! There they were, my childhood heroes! I was a teenager again. More Than A Feeling remains my first love. It is now bittersweet , as I met my ‘Marianne’ a few years later. I regret to this day that I let her ‘walk away’.
I grew up outside of Boston and had a middle school teacher who was the sister of their drummer, Sib Hashian. The year this album came out (1976), the whole band came to our school, and we played softball with them. It was amazing, and something I'll never forget. RIP Brad Delp and Sib Hashian!
When that album came out everyone bought it. It was one of those...every single song albums. Nobody denied this sound. The guitarist was an MIT grad and engineer; built his own equipment and sound. Their sound was unique.
Enjoyed your reaction. I love it when people discover and enjoy music I grew up with. I have to admit I don't know how Boston reminds you of the Bee Gees - but OK. Thanks for reacting.
I had difficulty making that connection as well, but I think it might be easier to see it if we had more limited exposure to these classics. For example, I have heard people confuse the music of Bach and Mozart because what they hear is classical music and put it with a name that is more familiar to them. You can hear the distinction better as you get more familiar with each. That will happen with AR as he proceeds down this path (assuming he continues).
I saw Boston live in 1978ish at a football stadium (arena rock). I paid $20 for about twelve hours of live music from various bands. Boston was the headliner and had a great lighting setup, which was good because it was dark before they took the stage.
I was 10 years old when this came out these guys were so far ahead of their time and the crazy thing is most of this album was recorded in Tom scholz’s basement! it is the best Debut album ever! or at least in the top 3! And also RIP BRAD DELP, LEAD SINGER, GREAT REACTION!
@@SleeplessMomma Of course they do, but they also had massive pop rock hits from the 60s, and that should not be forgotten. Songs like 'I've Gotta Get A Message to You', 'New York Mining Disaster 1941', 'Words', 'Massachusetts', etc. They were all huge hits, here in the UK, The Bee Gees were often on Top of the Pops with these songs. All I'm saying is, yes, they were known for their disco hits, but they had other great songs as well. 😊😊
@ I didn’t comment to have a debate over the genre of The Bee Gees really. Yes, they have other major hit songs that are not exactly disco however, they are best known for their disco hits. It really isn’t necessary to get worked up over it. 😁
"Foreplay/Longtime", "Peace of Mind", "Smokin'", "Rock n' Roll Band", etc...! Boston was fire in the 70's and 80's. Their debut album was the best selling of all time and Brad Delp had a voice like no other. Their girlfriends did the clapping, on Foreplay/Longtime too.
The brothers Gibb (Bee Gees) started as kids in the 60s. They sang mostly ballads until their popularity ballooned when disco hit the scene. So, about the only thing they had in common with Boston was they sang a song titled "Massachusetts." Anyway, Boston's debut album was recorded in Tom Sholz's basement. All instruments were played by Tom except drums, played by Sib Hashian. All vocals by Brad Delp. Every track on this album could and do stand alone as favorites. Great reaction.🤘😎❤
This is actually called corporate rock, of the mid to late 70s. Their first album is stunning with every song a hit. Not a stinker on it. I last saw them live in the early 2000s. Their corporate rock association comes from the concert production. That last concert was awesome with confetti bombs, pyrotechnics, lasers. But the opening was amazing. The arena went dark, then there was smoke lit from behind. From the ceiling of the stage, the spaceship on the album cover was lowered to hang over the band. Corporate rock refers to band concert promotion. They put on a hell of a show! Brad Delp, has stunning vocals. He committed suicide in 2007. Very sad. The note he left… “I Am A Lonely Soul”. Sib Hashian, great drummer and an Afro to die for, passed away on stage of a heart attack in 2017. RIP to both.
Sooo much Love!!! Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
You are confusing Bee Gees falsetto singing (they were masters of it) with Brad Delp's incredible vocal range as a singer. His voice was not auto-tuned and according to Rick Beato, he hits a high D over C I believe. He isolated the voice track and it is incredible.
I know you want to check out more Queen. Here are some epic performances: Now I’m Here, Under Pressure and Another One Bites the Dust live at Wembley 1986. Tie Your Mother Down, July 12th performance at Wembley and watch the audience. Dragon Attack, Keep Yourself Alive and Save Me live at Montreal. Love of My Life live at Wembley and then watch the performance of this song live at Rock in Rio where 300,000 to 500,000 non English speaking people sang this to Freddie and Brian leaving them overcome with emotion. They didn’t think the audience understood them or what they were singing.
Back then it was just Rock (or Rock n Roll). The Rock and Disco crowd (like the Bee Gees) were not exactly . . . friendly. They weren't at odds, but in my school there was a definite "disco isn't real music" movement. Disco got played in clubs, country got played down south, and rock was everywhere else. (We ignored Big Band and waltz music - hold outs from the grandparents.)
That other group you were trying to think of, should have reminded you of these guys. They were the pioneers. Their debut album was arguably the best selling debut album ever. It was recorded in Tom Scholz basement studio with just Tom Scholz on all instruments except drums, Brad Delp and a friend that played drums. Tom did all the backup vocals as well.
Such a freaking banger. Foreplay/longtime from them has to be next. You should check out April Wine..Roller extended version. I like to say they're kinda like Canada's Boston 😅Great reaction and Peace out ☮️ ✌️ 🙏
The only comparison is the outstanding production inherent of the 70’s and Brad Delp’s top notch falsetto like range that keeps going higher than you expect. Other than that, one is Rock and the other is Disco
Such a classic. I can't think of a bad Boston song. Boston became the victim of legal wrangling and could have so many more good songs were it not for that.
I know you meant it kindly, but there's really no worse insult to a rock-and-roll band than to say that they sound like a disco band. When this song came out, people who loved Boston mostly hated the Bee Gees, and vice versa. Time has mellowed some of that gulf, but by no means all of it.
hi anthony. it's lesa , pmj dream on. i've been trying your paid request but it's been down you once said thunderstruck was one of your favorite songs. pls react to 2 cellos thunderstruck. BUCKLE UP
Everyone reacts to the live performance, and its good, but the second verse and guitar solo are cut out. To hear the whole song...listening to the audio is a must. ,❤
The Bee Gees were completely different from Boston. The Bee Gees were disco and extremely talented singers and song writers. Boston is a rock band with very talented musicians and an iconic lead singer.
Bee Gees were Disco and back then you NEVER associated them with Rock and Roll which was what Boston was. I grew up in Hollywood, California in the seventies and you either were into one or the other. Disco was meant for dancing in clubs with a DJ and Rock was what you would call Arena music. You just watched it being in front of a stage. People into Rock back then HATED disco. They didn't consider it real music, except for a few crossovers LIKE the Bee Gees
Bee Gees??!!! I can’t believe you compared Boston to the Bee Gees!! 🤣🤣 And specifically, that you heard elements of “Stayin’ Alive” in “More Than A Feeling!! How??!! 🤣🤣
RIP Brad Delp… you had the greatest voice in rock n roll 🫡
One of the most perfect songs ever recorded. And every guy can relate, we all lost that Maryann and never forget.
I lost my fair share.
“Sounds like” The Bee Gees ? Now you take that back! 🤨😛
You got that right.
🤣🤣🤣
Blasphemy!
EVERY song on this album is Fire!!
Every song is radio-friendly.
Foreplay/Longtime should be your next go to from Boston.
Another banger for sure!
Yessssssssssss!!! Huge banger!!!!!
One of my all time favorites!!
Boston was my very first concert in 1978. I was 13. I have been chasing that feeling ever since. Arguably, the best debut album of all-time.
I saw them in 1979 when I was 9. Sammy Hagar opened for them. It wasn't my first concert, just the first concert I have a memory of. I thought I was such a badass the next day at school because I had gone to a rock concert the night before.😂
@@robynsanders4379 Saw the same tour, but I was 13. My first concert. Badass show.
Boston Foreplay / Longtime. IMO Boston's debut album was the best debut ever...EVER!
If there ever was a man with a rock and roll voice he's it.
it's the 70's, and Boston wrote one of the greatest rock songs in history with this one. perfect at every angle.
My mom and her boyfriend went to a Boston concert then stopped at the pizza place he owned to make themselves a pizza. Started so many of my days with this song. Brad had the VOICE!

Every member of Boston had a degree in music. Four of them had degrees in percussion alone.
Classic rock is most likely the category. Great 70s rock band!
I saw them live back in 1976 the year I graduated high school. They were awesome! In the 70s the Bee Gees were disco and Boston was hard rock.

The Bee Gees were totally disco, Boston was totally rock n roll. 😂 I remember this as a child. Love this song, great reaction Anthony.
Not quite, The Bee Gees were a pop rock group in the 60s, that then went on to embody the disco era in the late 70s.
@ Yes, however, they are best known for their disco hits. Everyone knows this.
@@SleeplessMomma Of course they do, but they also had massive pop rock hits from the 60s, and that should not be forgotten. Brad was an awesome singer!❤
Saw Boston in concert 10 years ago. Simply amazing live performance.

That is an engineer with a penchant for music, right there. Went for a different sound, and found gold, man Mid late 70's. Solid albums.

Hmmm. Didn’t wanna think about him today. Been out of high school 36 years and this song still gets to me.
As great as it to hear these songs, it's also a reminder how long ago it was. Sometimes for me, in some cases, it saddens me.
Best Debut album of all time. Every song on this album is 🔥
"The band that was so good they named a city after it."
This is so very awesome! RIP Brad. You are so very missed! Love your reaction!

They pioneered the cookie-cutter formula that spawned a lot of schlocky music in the late 70s and early 80s that became known as "corporate rock'.
In context of its release it was revolutionary. You had to have heard mixing of music up until that date to fully appreciate the mixing and effects
Music was perfect in my youth! This is perfect.
Rush - spirit of radio ❤
My favorite RUSH track. 🙂
This song is awesome. Love Boston. Queen perfected stadium rock which is one of the many reasons they outshined every other band at Live Aid.
How are there still people on this planet that have never heard this song????🤣🤣🤣
The late, great Brad Delp. Best singer I ever heard...
Sooo much Love!!! Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.

The video used the shorter 7" single / radio edit of the song. The full album version contains an extra verse.

It was from their first debut album of 1977
1976.
One of my favorite songs
First song I ever Turned All The Way Up.
One of my all time favorite songs.
Boston gives good and tasty jams. 😂 Enjoy.
This is a shortened version. Still epic.
I saw that little smile appear Anthony

Please react to Journey Live in Houston 1981 " Don't Stop Believing"
Great song and reaction and there's Rock and soft Rock
Got engaged to this song in 1976 still happy married 48 years later.
ah the days when a "High as a Kite" bass guitar never lost a beat
Yes, the 70s were the golden age of rock and roll.
And the backing vocals are stellar as well

We had the 8-Track to this album.
Yeah, Man!
Boston has as much in common with the Bee Gees as Chocolate cake has in common with a dill pickle.

Perfection - nothing to add.
Also, More Than A Feeling is considered almost a ballad compared to some of their other songs. Try Smoking, Cool The Engines.
I would suggest next listen be “Let Me Take You Home Tonight” thank you for keeping these classics alive!!!
Peace of Mind is a must...
Arena rock started with the Beatles, Shea Stadium New York 1965, 55,600 people. ❤

BEE GEES 🤩

Just an FYI. Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson is married to Sib's, the drummer, daughter.
The problem is when people watch the official video, they're only getting half the song. 1970's...76 to be exact.
April Wine 🍷 Roller ❤
This reminds you of the BeeGees? Must be the high vocals, because these guys really rock.
Yes classic fade out. But did you notice the unusual fade IN?
Bee Gees.... who were disco. This is rock.
First time comment, you really need to listen to Fourplay / long time! Greetings from over the pond!
Tom Scholz wrote the perfect rock song.
The only thing Boston and The Bee Gees have in common was their big hair.
The Bee Gees? The Stones try "Time waits for No one" it's a great tune and fine lyrics!
The only thing "Boston" and the "Bee Gees" have in common are the letters "BS".😅
Good reaction, but when you compared Boston to the Bee Gees, I just went tilt. 😳
Maybe the best album ever?
Bass player…so high in this video 😂
Such a classic. I can't think of a bad Boston song. Boston became the victim of legal wrangling and could have so many more good songs were it not for that.
BeeGees did that Staying Alive
He’s singing about a crush he had on his uncle’s girlfriend.
