That was a great test. Good job. Now, try the same test again but with any DJI drone, and see what the results are. Actually I would like to see you do the same test with the DJI mavic mini. If you do it with the mavic mini, and there is a high wind like there was in this flight, keep as low as you can only increasing the height if the signal starts to break up. Your safety is that on the return trip, you will have the wind at your back. Happy Flying

Weird that it backs home, but did you try using the sticks when it was on RTH? With DJI, you can speed up RTH with the sticks and you can also climb and descend with the sticks even when it is on RTH, but you can't rotate.
Did this test last Monday, In heavy wooded area. Got about 2500-2600 ft on controller and about 2000 on beacon, flying repetitively in the same direction. My Bebop 2 had a bit better range in the very same spot, making Skydio2 not to impressive in terms of range. Curious if further updates will improve the range as it seems to be the most common critique. As far as coming back, it will never turn around as other drones do. Also, there is no way to play with the RH response time, which varies for some reasons. Maps is another case. For economy reasons Skydio can’t compete with other brands for the time being.
Good video. Glad to see you have problems like everybody else. I believe the machine returns to home backward (Tail first) is because the drone antennas are in the tail and it has a better chance of re connecting if it is flying backward. Perhaps Skydio should put an antenna in the front and the rear as just one piece of long wire? Would this help?
Interesting test. Maybe the strengths of the Skydio are rather to follow you than to fly long ranges. Unusual that with the RTH it does not turn around to the starting point.

Peter, the problem is the antenna on the drone, not on the controller. Flying backwards improves the reception since antennas are on the back of the drone. BTW new software update today (7.0.23) got exactly the same SDcard error, fortunately formatting worked.
I think return to the phone confuses a little bit the drone. Maybe because the phone is not stable. Maybe the normal RTH works best because is a fixed position.
