When I was in my 40’s I started going grey. One regret I have is dying my hair. I wish I would have just let my hair go natural. So when I was 60 I stopped dying my hair. I have long hair. Now I’m 67, feel 40 and people honestly think I’m in my late 50’s. I exercise, eat healthy and I’m a positive happy person. That keeps me young. Love your channel Susie.

Congrats on everything! The gel I’ve found closest to Biotera is Ouidad Advanced Climate Control gel. I’m trying new stuff too so I’m happy folks are offering lots of suggestions here. I started going gray at 16 and I’m 47 but I haven’t been able to let it go because mine get wiry. Totally on a fitness journey too - I teach spin twice a week and Noom has really helped me - no “bad” foods - just logging everything to make sure I stay accountable. You are 100% right about drinking water and cutting down on caffeine and alcohol. Thank you so much for being so inspiring!

Well done on getting your dream job. I’m sure you will be outstanding in this position. You have inspired me to get regular with my exercise. So now I do yoga x2 weekly and I try to make sure my steps are at 10 thousand or close to that. I don’t beat myself up if I can’t achieve that, and I try to make sure my eating is healthy too. I appreciate your honesty in what you share with us. Your keeping it real!
Great seeing you back! My go to styling products are Ouidad Advanced Climate Control gel and the same curl cream. I tried other brands, like R&Co since I go to a salon that exclusively uses this brand, but I always go back to Ouidad.

I’m not personally going grey, and I went back to getting my hair colored at the salon since I suck at doing it myself 😂. Plus I’m in my early 50s and I feel better when my grey hair is colored.

Hi Susie, I just found your channel and I love it! I was searching for curly/wavy hair and how to work with it. Mine is more wavy but want to work with it since I get more compliments when I let it go natural. I'm retired, 72, and finally let my hair go gray/white! it's been about 16 months, and with mid-neck length with trims I'm almost there! And lots of compliments and my hair has never been healthier! I wish I had embraced it in my early 40's when I started dyeing it in addition to the highlights. When my face was more youthful and full of collagen :-) Lots of damage, lots of conditioning but still had my thick wavy look I smoothed. I say to my young friends, go for the grays, embrace them! You have a beautiful youthful face/complexion and it will give you more depth to your darks and it will be damage free!!
Susie - your hair got so long! Love it! Consider letting your hair be its natural color. You might be thinking “but I don’t want to look OLD!”. But would you think that if most women your age were graying? Because most women your age are graying. We have been sold this lie that gray = old by hair color companies and hair stylists (who make much more of their $ from coloring than cuts) and beauty mags that want to tell us what color is “in” this season. It’s all about them wanting our money. You’re going gray - clearly Mother Nature doesn’t think you’re too young to be gray! It’s natural for us to start going gray in our 30’s or even 20’s - is that old?! Those same hair stylists came up with a “rule” that say you need to wait until you’re 70%+ gray before considering letting it be natural. It’s bullshit. I’m 50-60% gray and my color transition was relatively easy compared to women I know who waited until they were almost all gray. I just stopped coloring and never had a sharp line of demarcation. You don’t need to be all gray, or have big dramatic silver streaks to have gorgeous natural salt & pepper hair. Personally I love my natural silver highlights much more than any color job I ever had. It’s unique, it gives my hair dimension, looks especially great when I wear it wavy, and no one else can buy it. Just my two cents. And congrats on your new job!
Beyond the zone bada bing gel is something I think you might like. It's a bit harder hold but just use more water and less product and it might work for you. It's at Sally's as well.

I have also been trying to get healthier this year through an improvement in the amount of exercise I do. I started with mostly step aerobics mainly because I'm old and enjoyed doing them when I was younger. I added strength training (light weights and resistance bands) because the online trainer kept telling the 'cardio queens' that we would get a lot more out of training if we added strength. I don't think I have lost a lot of weight, I'm not using scales, but as of today all of my clothes fit me again. I also haven't tracked calories and eat carbs all the time because exercise makes me hungry. I still like a glass of wine a few nights a week and that is OK too. Congrats on your new fulltime job!

Susie, if I'm correct, Zotos made Biotera gel. They still have two gels available at Sally under their own name, a lighter and a stronger hold.

Yes that's correct, but I have tried all 3 and the 2 Zotos are a completely different consistency than the Biotera, so I hope you find one that works but I'd definitely get the sample bottles of Zotos!! Just a little idea....

Oh Suzie I love you and your straight forward approach so much! You are a true leader and such an asset to the world. it’s fun to see you going after what’s important to you. I have been with your channel for so long and learned most curly hair techniques from you. we were pregnant with the last baby at the same time, and truth, it does seem like yesterday!
I didn’t love the bio terra gel so this may not be a helpful suggestion (it was too lightweight to get curls to hold in my wavy hair) but i’m really loving devacurl ultra defining gel. It has a matte, non-crunch texture and great hold. I’d be so curious to get your opinion on it.

I love Zotos. That and the LA Looks are my holy grails. I'm also a big fan of the Verb Foaming Gel that Manes by Mel helped create - a bottle just doesn't last as long as the others.

Congratulations on the new position! I did not realize the Biotera gel was discontinued, and I’m very saddened. Thankfully I have found a different gel I also like, offers more hold if you don’t water it down but I have lasting results with it. Maui Moisture Curl Quench + Coconut Oil Ultra Defining Gel! Definitely check it out.

I really enjoy the Herbal Essence Set Me Up Gel. Relatively cheap, and doesn’t weigh my fine hair down or make it look greasy even if I apply too much.

I have been using Innersense’s I Create Hold Gel & I love it! I have very dry, coarse hair with quite a bit of gray that I cover with Demi-permanent dye at a salon. My hair stylist, who is awesome with curly hair, as she is a curly girl herself, recommended the Innersense gel. I use it with Uncle Funky’s Curly Magic (which I add to my hair first) & the combo is beautiful!

Your life changes! I have found the Bounce curl light cream gel to be very similar to the bioterra. I need a stronger hold for mine but have tried both and they are really alike in terms of hold, slip, consistency, etc.
My other favorite gel is also from Sally Beauty. It's their Generic Value Products Liquid Sculpting Gel. It's a very similar consistency and gives me similar results. Try it out!

I emailed Bioterra and they said there was a supply chain issue due to Covid and it would be back in stores by late January. Well my local Sally's had it this week!! The packaging has changed but it seems to be the same formula to me.

I compared the ingredients and saw differences that made me nervous. I also saw that it's no longer "Naturelle" Biotera but owned by Zotos Biotera. I guess Zotos bought it and reformulated??
I just came here to ask you, Susie, if you still love it more than any other because I've used it for years because of your initial recommendation AND trying other samples here & there (I tried Zotos while Biotera was gone and didn't like it, plus others) nothing tops it for me!!
I think Zotos and Bioterra have always been under the same company but for whatever reason changed the packaging. I also tried the Zotos gel previously and preferred the Bioterra Gel. I am almost done with the new bottle/formula and so far I'm still loving it.

It’s back - But the formula has changed - my hair hates this new formula - glycerin is further up in the ingredient list. They tried making it “cleaner” - I will be retuning mine
Oh no- I didn't realize the formula changed! I bought the new one and it's still working for me thankfully. I did notice the packaging change. The old bottle looked better IMO. I hope you find something that works for you!

You turned me on to Biotera several years ago. I kind of forgot about it for some reason. Last week a friend gave me a huge bottle as she didn’t want to use it. I used it again and man does my hair look great. Dang, sorry to hear that this will be my last bottle…Congrats on the new job.
I came here after some time away looking for the name of the gel you used, and found out it was discontinued. Oh well, such is life. I just ordered on Amazon (I'm in the UAE) Cantu Stay Glue (in a tube) and something called Aunt Jackie's Flaxseed Gel (in a tub). I used to make my own Flaxseed gel but it just turned smelling funny too quick if I didn't put in the fridge. And I found if it was in the fridge and not in the shower I just wouldn't use it. I have almost finished a tub of Cantu Moisture Retention Styling Gel (in a tub). I didn't re-order as it was well ok and wanted to try something new to see if it would be better than ok. Can't wait for your videos. I can't believe 6 years have gone by either as I remember watching when you were only a few hundred subscribers and I was living in Munich and you had really long hair. LA Looks Blue gel, SO CHEAP and really great! Harder hold than the Bioterra but no flakes, I like it a lot.

I’ve been following you for past 5 yrs. Started using biotera after watching you. Can’t wait to see what you find for us to use in its place. I’ve let my hair get long but noticing it gets really stringy day 4. It’s really thin bc of old age. Ideas? Also I’m 65 and just discovered I have osteoarthritis in right knee and it’s rough. Trying to control inflammation. Any ideas you can add to help control imflamation and stiffness? Ty

Lus brand has a new gel out. You can really tell how well it holds the moisture in your hair. Especially great for Canadian winters.

I saw that too, that Biotera was being discontinued! I thought of you, because you are the one that got me to try it. Have you tried Biolage? I think they're about the same.
Until about 2 years ago, I always kept my hair short because I didn't know to care & style my waves & curls. Since then, I've been letting it grow & it's about halfway down my back. I'll be 57 years young in a few months and I have some white scattered, like yours and I think this is the longest my hair ever been! For the first time in my life, I'm loving my hair.
Also, for the 2nd time in my adult life, I found my way of losing weight. I think it's something you said in one of your other videos a few months back, that it's all about calories. So true. When I was at my heaviest, I realized that I was dishing myself as much as I was dishing my husband! I also learned about mindful eating, & after suppah snacking was just a bad habit, because I wasn't really hungry. For me, intermittent fasting works for me & I start my morning with lemon water, chia seeds & mint extract & a protein (Premier Protein) & cold brew coffee shake around 10 a.m. I lost 37 lbs in 3 years! I haven't started yet, but I want to incorporate some type of physical activity.

37lbs in 3 years is amazing to me. Most people don’t have the patience to gradually change their lifestyle & make subtle change. 57 is young!! As far as physical activity. Try to find something you enjoy. Even once a week. Yoga, walking, dancing, trying random fitness UA-cam videos. It feels so good to move & stretch your body. Just do it

I have liked the aussie gel and have not found another one that I like any better yet. I don't call it my holy grail becasue I have actually tried very few gels. But I like it well enough and it's CG method approved.
I was so devastated when I realized Biotera was discontinued and thought of you immediately, Susie! The only gel I find comparable is Ouidad’s advanced climate control. It’s great but so expensive. However Ouidad’s site does offer deals frequently and Ulta does the jumbo size discounts a few times a year. Keep us posted!
Ouidad Vital Curl Tress Effects Gel is one of my faves, but not only is it super expensive - but they changed the scent from clove to a terrible perfumey overpowering scent. I love the gel, but hardly use it due to these two issues.
I literally came to the comments to say this exact thing. The Ouidad is the only comparable gel I've found. I've never tried their more affordable Twist line, so I wonder if maybe there's a gel there that does the trick. Black Friday sales right now btw... I just ordered a new big jug for around $50.

I feel your pain on the Biotera gel…they d/c my HG conditioner a WalMart dupe for a fancy conditioner. I have a few hoarded bottles for when my hair needs to come out, but nothing is the same especially not for the 4$ price tag.

I emailed Zotos a week ago when I couldn't find the Biotera gel at Sallys anymore 😫 and I explained this too. They told me it was still being sold at Sally's. They gave me a link and of course it said it didn't exist anymore so I have no idea why the heck they told me that.
But I found a concoction using the Dove finishing gel & the Curlsmith curl defining styling souffle. (Great slip too). Surprisingly my hair lasted a few more days! I have fine curly hair so I can't use anything heavy. I tried the Giovanni gel but it's so thick and sticky.
Ya I have family that lived in the Ashby area. My poo grandmother house on Strom way and chestnut st is just routing away😢

I'm in British Columbia Canada. I just checked our Sally's and they do have the Biotera Gel on their website. I wonder if it's just the stock they presently have and when it's gone it's gone. Its a great gel. I've been making my own flaxseed gel. It gives me good day one and two hair. Then I need to refresh on day three.

Your hair looks fantastic! That's too bad about BioTerra Gel. I first found out about it on one of your videos and never got around to trying it. I'm considering trying a gel from the brand "Shea Moisture". I've been using their products for years and really love this brand. I have excessively dry hair and scalp and their products work like magic on my hair. I especially love their leave in conditioner and thought I would see how the gel is. For hair dye, I've been using "Henna Hair Color" by the company Rainbow Research. A natural hair dye. It's a bit messy to use, but I've got a good technique down for applying it with much less mess. We seem to have about the same hair color and I would recommend the dark brown if you want to stay with your natural hair color. Just some suggestions I thought I would share that work great for me.
It's a 10 gel oil. It's really good and you only need a little bit.
Hey Susie! FYI. I was shopping today at my local Walmart in America and found the totally twisted mousse is being discounted! Anyhoo, I picked up the last 3 at $1.43 each. Thought of you and thought you may want to get into the clearance sale. Not sure if the new curl mousse they have is comparable.
Try the not your mothers hard hold gel. One of my favorites!

Ouidad Humidity gel -the red bottle. It is the only gel I will use. I will buy it on their website when they have 20-25% off.
The timing of this video is coincidental to my recent discovery that Biotera gel is no longer available to buy near me. I had no gel left at all so I had to do some quick research and landed on GIOVANNI L.A. Hold Styling Gel. I’ve tried it twice now and like it so far. Looking forward to seeing you experiment with gels as my curls are similar to yours. Good luck!
Me too! I went with the Giovanni too but it's so sticky!
Giovanni LA hold gell is very thick but it is good and not too expensive. I add a bit of water when I am emulsifing to make it easier to work with. I was going to suggest that gel too. Another great gel that I use nearly every wash is Trelux hi! Definition Gel. It is soooo good and easy to use has nice hold and definition. These 2 gels last a long time because you don't need to use a lot
They did what!?! I finally broke down and tried bioterra gel after all the times you brought it up, LOVE it and now it's gone! It's probably my fault for buying it. I feel like I have this effect on things. lol sorry....
I think the dark hair is richer, and provides a nice contrast with the rest of your coloring. Since I'm reading this 1 year later, wonder what decision you made??

I’ve used Bioterra gel and liked it, but I like AG Liquid effects better. Ive used it for years but I’ll admit my hair was a bit crunchy with it. However, I recently ordered the unscented LUS shampoo, conditioner and all-in-one and their gel. I really like the shampoo and conditioner a lot. The all-in -one made my hair utterly amazing…for about6 hours then it was frizz city. I tried their seaweed gel with the all-in-one but it wasn’t enough. But the AG liquid effects with the all-in-one is magic. I have had more compliments on my hair I the past month than I have my entire life.
I’ll try that gel 100%
