Why does everyone hate Samsung Exynos? 🔥

  • If you read some posts on forums and certain corners of social media, it's hard to understate the antipathy towards Samsung's Exynos processors. Some phone enthusiasts really HATE these chips -- and more, to the point, the idea that they're paying the same as other Samsung customers, but, because of where they live, their shiny new phone runs a lemon of a CPU.
    So with Exynos due to make a return in Europe and Asia on the Galaxy S24, we ask: Why does everyone hate Exynos?

    I bought the S23 plus this year which is the first Samsung I've bought since the S8 plus, mainly due to them getting rid of those battery draining hand warmers called Exynos. I shall be returning to the opposition on my next upgrade if the Snapdragons disappear again, I don't want a second rate product because of where I live

    The 2 problems they face is: 1. Even if it has the potential to perform better than Snapdragon, the Snapdragon will still be more optimised by devs. And 2. Even if they do make a decent chip, people aren't going to immediately become super excited. Just hearing the word "Exynos" really puts a lot of people off. Both of these problems can only be solved if they're good, and good *consistently* so it's going to take them years to turn things around, and they're fighting an uphill battle of their own making. I hope they do well, some added competition for Snapdragon means better chips and/or lower prices for us the customers.

      You are wrong in one thing, the price is going up not down if more and more chip manufacturers are sharing the market, just think about it, if 100million sold chip need to cover the investment it cost less per chip when you need to get the same on 40million sold chip, and you can be sure nobody will say that we selling less amount of chip, so the yearly.profit is also fine if will be lower.. they will charge more on each chip to maintain their previous year profit, even if they manufacturing judt half amount of chip, they wi not give up the profit.. the only difference here is that you need to pay millions for multiple companies just for the chip design/yearly innovations, and you will pay that price even if they only sell 1 chip per year..

      The way I see it they have to essentially beat sd 8 gen 3 in every single catagory ie. Performance, battery life and heating by atleast 10% to remove the bad public image associated with the word "EXYNOS". But the problem is I find that happening to be highly UNLIKELY.

    • @TamasKiss-yk4st
      @TamasKiss-yk4st 10 місяців тому +7

      @@naqibfarhan4356 the heating is the most problem, without that they should keep up the performance, but because of the heating they throttle more like the others, what cost them the sustained performance. And the heating issue comes from the inferior Samsung fab, their transistor density is a joke, and if you need to make a bigger chip to use the same amount of transistor, then they lose a lot (the 30% longer wire had the exactly same extra resistant like the 30% wider wire, so their 4nm use the same energy like the 5.2nm from the others)

      one huge problem problem with exynos chip is bad gpu driver optimization , since eclipse is based on RDNA and the support is almost non existent, even for mali and adreno gpu optimization still lacking and the gpu update able driver support in play store is non existent, gpu driver still depends on firmware update from the OS update.
      Another thing is the ISP optimization, exynos 2200 have bad camera video recording on launch ,this is quite funny since samsung is the exynos owner and it's run bad again on their phone s22 ultra exynos. From here we can see although samsung phones use chipset from their own, the optimization suks hard which is a shame

If they want to keep using their chip to gain insights and data about performance etc. for developing purposes, they should offer that model at a lower price full stop, or just stick to using ONE chip for all markets, whether it be SD or Exy. I think that if they launch the s24 series with Exynos in some countries, a good answer to that from general public would be not buying it or buying offers on the s23 series till sold out. I think that, if they want to experiment with Exynos, they can do it with medium to lower devices. Samsung sells a lot on these categories so it can be worth for them. If you pay for premium, you are expeacting premium processor, but if you pay half ot third of premium, why not to be a good "territory" for Exynos to try? Maybe one day Samsung actually manage to get to the top with their chip (I doubt it) but, in the mean time, is very baf idea to keep premium prices om mediocre processor, they losing trust of consumers, like they did already with their tvs by overpricing Leds, drpping qualitu one year to another, bad software upgrade (like iPhone, so next year launch looks much bette) etc..

    And when it comes to a flagship price,some people don't know when they buy but Will eventually learn from competitors, geeky friends, hence feel betrayed.
    Remember flagships changes every 12 months, when competitors blow away you specs a few months after the buy , and you're still paying you phone's plan for one or two years..... bad taste in the mouth. Again we are talking high price flagship.

    Even though the Tensor chipsets in Pixel phones are different than a stock Exynos that would go in a Galaxy, some hope of how good or bad a Exynos in a S24 will be hinged on how good the Tensor G3 in the Pixel 8 phones perform particularly in the way of general performance and efficiency since both areas were behind comparable Snapdragons. With rumors that the Tensor G3 is in for its biggest change yet, an Exynos in a S24 may not be as bad as we're thinking.

    Exynos has potential. Everyone is moving towards custom silicon. Samsung is the only manufacturer with as widespread a market share and a lineup of devices covering everything from the ultra-low end to the ultra-premium end. If they can get their best chips close enough to SD, they can get very price competitive and subsidise the difference via their lower end models. And maybe that means they could support their entire lineup for longer, which is basically what's pushing customers towards Apple.

    The fact of the matter is that the vast majority of people who use a Samsung phone with an Exynos processor simply don't know or don't care. I agree it's a bit disingenuous of them to ship different and technically inferior processors with their overseas phones. That being said, I don't think we should cheer for Qualcomm in everything.
