This is by far the most helpful video for getting started with the Garmin Striker 4. One minor thing. I believe you reversed the information on frequency. The 77 is going to give a wider view and the 200 a deeper and more clear, but narrower view.
Just got a Striker 4 for Christmas and can't wait to get out with my kayak. Thank you for this instructional video-a lot easier to follow compared with the Garmin manual!
Vice vid. Just mounted mine yesterday. Played around with it for a few minutes and it was very user friendly. I've had other garmins that had the same features. The vid. Just made it a little easier. Thanks.
I just love this UA-cam it's better than a library anything you want to know it's right here. I bought mine a year ago works great but just use the depth finder that was it and I said let's look up UA-cam and see if it will teach me the rest of the features and sure enough here you are explaining it all perfectly thank you I finally got my depth finder under control😎
Just one more question how waterproof is that Striker 4. I left my old Garmin out in the rain few times and the screen fogged up and stay that way I was wondering if these new Striker Force did that also
Thank you and glad you enjoy the videos...I have had mine out in the rain for a few with no issues, but it has never been left out or dunked in the water. Sorry I can not be much help on this one.
Got a Striker 4 for Fathers Day. Only had it out once so far and am very impressed by the unit. I use it on a Old Town Next with the Garmin accessories bag and couldn’t be more pleased.
This is the type of video that should come with the unit when purchased. You have cleared up so many questions I have with my unit that I received last Christmas (the exact same unit) but have not had it on the water yet. I have been looking over a year for a video of this quality. Please come out with Part 2 soon. I fish from a canoe and have mine mounted like yours. Thanks again for such high quality and close up views.
Glad you enjoy and this video helped, Part #2 is planned for late spring when I break the kayak back out when water temps rise. I will be doing a similar video, but focused on the GPS/Waypoint features.
Great Info on the Garmin features, one thing you missed or might not know. On the A-scope, if you look at the flasher it puts on the screen, look at the bottom and you will see a number. That number is the diameter of your beam at that depth. I helps me to know where the fish are in relation to my kayak. Thanks for Sharing
I’ve been looking for a video like this to turn on fish ID, thank you. Also I didn’t know about A scope, excited to play with mine once I get my battery hooked up!
That's awesome it always makes my day to read comments from people who these helped. If you have other questions feel free to ask and I will help if I can
Thanks for your video i bought a striker 4 and your video really help me whit my new fishing toy. Great and clear explications. Continue your great job
Good review. It's a good little unit. I used it pretty much all summer & fall. Just upgraded, but that was because I'm planning to hit the bigger lakes this year and wanted lake charts.
Seems like you’re right about the debris. it’s super sensitive. I watched this video and played with the features at the house and it picked up fish while on the trailer on land 😂
Yeah out of the water it will be way worse than in the water, but definitely still will give some false indications. But it is great for beginners and those wanting to start learning.
Yep pretty much the same, only a real difference is the contour mapping...everything else should be about the same. Glad you found them useful, it always makes my day when I hear they helped someone
That means a lot that you feel that way...glad you enjoyed. Be sure to subscribe, as I am working on the final editing of the GPS & Waypoint video right now...should be up on a day or two.

Thank you for this video! I have struggled with understanding and using my Striker 4. I do have one question for you @1Cast 1Fish I have had to reset back to my factory setting a couple times over the past year. Why does my depth on the top left blink constantly? Thanks
Could be a loose pin, but most likely something with the fish finder itself...it would be hard to figure out without seeing it honestly. I would check all the pins to be clean and check to make sure none are bent or loose.
How do you get rid off the red bar on top.. guessing u can not. It's just annoying with that and the yellow red ect . Just wondering cause some people say that do not have that problem.. but I looked here and other vidoes... it looks normal... but would live to get ride of it. Also sold red on the flasher also..
I got you covered man...go to your traditional sonar, hit menu, go to sonar set up, go to noise reject, go to surface noise and make sure it is off or in hide...should fix you up.
I will try that in open water. I did try it last time out .. but the lake bottem went away to.. I'll try again. This will be my 3rd return. Both other units had other issues.. I will up date asap when I am out on lake for your viewes.. thanks man..
@@mikeblaze868 you may have the bottom locked as well if the bottom is dropping out over deeper water, as this would cause the sonar to only work in the set range.

That is a very good question, but unfortunately not a easy answer with standard 2D sonar. 2D sonar uses a cone so it is wide at the bottom and narrow at the top. Also the cones circumference grows the deep the water is. I will try to explain though the best I can. Once you see the fish start on the right of the screen, the fish has started entering the sonar cone. Once you see the end of the fish arch...you have now pasted the fish and it is heading out of the cone. Once of the easiest ways to know a fish is somewhat under the boat is look for elongated arches. This means the fish is within the sonar cone...and most likely still under the boat somewhat. I get this question a lot, so I really should make another video explaining this in more depth. Be sure to hit the Sub button for new future videos
ok. that makes sense. obviously not as easy as I thought it was going to be, but guess that's part of the fun! thanks for the response. already subscribed, so will look for future videos. thanks again!
How do you know which direction you are supposed to look while using your fish finder? My husband couldn't even tell me that. Some may think this is the dumbest question in fishing world but I am new to this. I seriously need to know. Ty in advance.
mustangsally0928 info on the right is the most recent data. The further data is to the left the older it is ie...you already passed the items in the return.
This question my sound ignorant but I’m new to kayaking and I just got an fish finder. When I drop my anchor and sit standing still the bottom on the fish finder shows like I’m moving. Is this is normal?
Robert Villafane yes it is normal...it moves based on scroll speed you have set. The easy way to liok at it is the left screen stuff is data from the past sonar pings while the right is the newest pings. How fast the data moves off your screen is the scroll speed.
I think Roberts point is it appears even when sitting still that the transducer is gaining new ground when indeed it's not. Which makes me still wonder why is it still scanning/moving even though your anchored down? I've been wandering this myself..
Hi, can you please tell me why on my garmine striker, i only see straight lines across the screen instead of the curved semi-circrle lines for fish. When i am ice fishing, it showes my lure as a straight line and the fish come in as a thicker orange or blue line not a semi-circle symbole. What setting should i change. Thank you
Nothing, what you see is normal. The only way you can get a arch shape is for a object to enter then leave the sonar cone...if the object (lure) remains within the cone then it will be a straight line across the screen. If you see the fish do this, that means that they are staying within the sonar cone as well...another good thing if ice fishing
Without a doubt yes...but not for finding the fish so much as the ability to locate structure and then mark waypoints to find it to fish later. I have a ton of waypoints marked so I can come back to them with ease....and catch a ton of fish
What transducer should I select for my boat? It's a 12 foot aluminum. 200/77 or 200/50khz? I am using a minn kota. And I have a transducer on the rear of my boat mount it.
Honestly, I would recommend looking up other videos that explain the difference...I think that video or images would be the best teacher compared to me trying to put it into words. This is one of those things that are better shown....You did give me an idea for another video though...thanks
I have one question I did everything you explain and I got mines work good the only problem I have is after 5 or 10 min a add always pock back up with a man on a boat how can I get that to stop
What setting should I use to make fish mine has not shown me a fish even though the guy right next to me is marking lots I’m looking for fish between 2 and 15 pounds
I would have to see a screen shot to see what your looking at, but I would first try to adjust the sensitivity up and see if that helps. How deep of water? Fresh or Salt?
I assume you mean the lake contours? If so, the base models do not have this feature. The Plus and Vivid do have Quick Draw Maps which will map the lakes for you as you move about. If you want more detail and the lake fully mapped for you, you must find a fish finder that will accept a mapping SD card.
Hello, thinking about installing my transducer inside my hull. I see that’s want you have done as well. Did you upgrade to a through hull transducer or are you using the standard one? Thanks
I would set my bottom at 10ft then and keep gain in AUTO unless you have tons of dirty water or debri...then start about 3/4 of the gain max and work it down till you clear up the screen to your likes
Hi, I have a striker 4, it refuses to say the depth when i go fishing for Kob I am in about 6 feet deep water etc, and the depth fails to register and the screen in blank, is this because my sensitivy settings are wrong or is the unit faulty? Thanks, hope you can help.
see how small the numbers for depth are when split screen is used my Garmin the munbers are that size on any screen !! What's going on ???? any ideas thanks
You are correct the picture is wrong...its been adressed a few times in the comments...good eyes. You can check out my video on frequency for more info you may be interested in.
I hope to touch on this in another video, but I can tell you what you see is a good thing actually. If the fish stay within the cone (around your boat) then they will show as a straight line on the screen. The angle is because the fish is changing depths while in the cone. Hope this helps
I just bought this unit. I think the depth it shows is wrong. It said 50 foot. I dropped my line in and went down about 20 foot. Is there a way to correct this if its wrong?
Yes there is, but you normally only would correct for a foot or so...never would I recommend correcting for 20ft. I would verify the depth again just to be sure...if it is really off by 20ft or more I would return the unit as it is definitely not correct.
1Cast 1Fish I don't see it. I've downloaded the directions and have been using it for a year. Directions indicate water temp should be there. I love the Garmin but I don't think mine has water temp. My screen looks just like urs at 1:10. Depth, mph, voltage, and time. Thank you for the help.
Ok I think I know what you got going on...so follow these steps and let me know if it helped. Go to Traditional sonar...hit the menu button...go to overlay numbers....go down to water temp...put in Auto
yer graphic at 2:27 is incorrect. the 77khz cone is the wider cone and would show more fish. the 200khz cone is narrower and would show less fish, granted the 200khz would give you more "detail" than the 77khz setting.
Had lousy service with Garmin. Just filed a complaint, and sure they won't care. Found another person sending their Garmin back because it won't read the chip.
I have never had this issue with my Striker 4, but on a few other graphs I have lost a few read outs every now and then. Every time it has been a bad connection. Take off your wires and check all the pins for bent or corroded pins, next check to make sure there is no corrosion at the power source and that the connections are tight. Also try wiggling the connector into your fish finder to ensure it is fully pressed in. let me know if this helps
Ok i'm really confused. Your chart shows that the 200KHZ has a wider cone than the 77KHZ. I was under the impression that it is the opposite. Help me understand this.
That's a tough question, but since the info you see on the screen is in the past, it is most likely the things you see will be just in front of you or behind you. Check out my video on Fish Arches Explained and it may shed some light.
I have seen other video, where you set on A mode, what you see on the right screen will show you fish under your boat , so you drop your fishing hook straight under boat and you will seen your lure and fish.it’s very interesting I am waiting for my garmin striker 4 to start to use it.
1Cast 1Fish thanks for your speedy response! One more thing to ask about is the maximum depth and the exact model number? I have been watching a lot of confusion around the model number (CV and DV I guess).... Thank you very much in advance!
Ahmed Elsheikh it is rates for 1600ft freshwater & 750ft Saltwater...but expect a bit less than that. The CV And DV models are the same...the DV name was changed to CV for legal reasons. Any other questions feel free to ask.
This is by far the most helpful video for getting started with the Garmin Striker 4. One minor thing. I believe you reversed the information on frequency. The 77 is going to give a wider view and the 200 a deeper and more clear, but narrower view.

The only way you can get a arch shape is for a object to enter then leave the sonar cone...if the object (lure) remains within the cone then it will be a straight line across the screen. If you see the fish do this, that means that they are staying within the sonar cone as well...another good thing if ice fishing
@@1Cast1Fish Amazing, thank you for your reply, that makes sense now that you explained it. i have suscribed to your channel. Thank you.
Thanks
Should I have a fish finder for saltwater backcountry fishing? Water depth 10’ and less???
Without a doubt yes...but not for finding the fish so much as the ability to locate structure and then mark waypoints to find it to fish later. I have a ton of waypoints marked so I can come back to them with ease....and catch a ton of fish
What transducer should I select for my boat? It's a 12 foot aluminum. 200/77 or 200/50khz? I am using a minn kota. And I have a transducer on the rear of my boat mount it.
200/77 for most normal fishing
Hello Sir, I have a question, what is the total depth on this fish finder ?
The manual says 1900 as a max depth in freshwater, but honestly I would say half that in real world setting
Thanks for the info - how do you tell a rock bottom from soft bottom on this unit? Having trouble with that.
Not sure I understand sorry....what do you mean a man on a boat?
What setting should I use to make fish mine has not shown me a fish even though the guy right next to me is marking lots I’m looking for fish between 2 and 15 pounds
I would have to see a screen shot to see what your looking at, but I would first try to adjust the sensitivity up and see if that helps. How deep of water? Fresh or Salt?
Is there a sensitivity adjustment on the striker 4?
Yes...they call it gain...check the description and hit the part on Gain...about 2 min mark or so....please be sure to hit that Subscribe button.
I would like to see your garmin 4 part 2
Fishing Almanac Hope to get it done this spring
Part 2 is out FYI ua-cam.com/video/0r_Cxl-a6oI/v-deo.html
Thanks that's cooladindagang.
Thank you
I want to know different function or something different striker 4 and ff250
I am not familiar with ff250
Dumb question, but how do you turn the volume up on the unit??
How do you get the way point to show the lake?
I assume you mean the lake contours? If so, the base models do not have this feature. The Plus and Vivid do have Quick Draw Maps which will map the lakes for you as you move about. If you want more detail and the lake fully mapped for you, you must find a fish finder that will accept a mapping SD card.
Hello, thinking about installing my transducer inside my hull. I see that’s want you have done as well. Did you upgrade to a through hull transducer or are you using the standard one? Thanks
Jake Selke no need to upgrade the standard one works perfectly
Looking to find the best range and gain settings for a shallow marsh with a muck bottom never deeper than 8 ft ! suggestions ??
I would set my bottom at 10ft then and keep gain in AUTO unless you have tons of dirty water or debri...then start about 3/4 of the gain max and work it down till you clear up the screen to your likes
@@1Cast1Fish THANKS FOR THE HELP ! GOOD FISHING !!
You as well
Hi, I have a striker 4, it refuses to say the depth when i go fishing for Kob I am in about 6 feet deep water etc, and the depth fails to register and the screen in blank, is this because my sensitivy settings are wrong or is the unit faulty? Thanks, hope you can help.
Already replied :)
see how small the numbers for depth are when split screen is used my Garmin the munbers are that size on any screen !! What's going on ???? any ideas thanks
I don't think you can change the size of the depths on the sides...sorry
I'm confused, everywhere its mentioned that the 200 khz as a smaller area than the 77 khz?
You are correct the picture is wrong...its been adressed a few times in the comments...good eyes. You can check out my video on frequency for more info you may be interested in.
If I change some settings, then disconnect my battery for charging, will I need to go in and make the changes again or will it remember my settings
Yes it will
Do you think ClearVU is worth paying extra for? Especially on Striker 4 series? Or not worth it due to smaller screen?
Stictly my own opinion, but I feel 4" is a bit small to take full advantage of Clear Vu. I have run down/side image on a 7" screen without issue.
What mount do you have, and where did you get it? Thanks Kevin
In the description
I am new to fishfinders, but I don't seem to find why I get streaks sometimes, diving at an angle bottom to top?any info
I hope to touch on this in another video, but I can tell you what you see is a good thing actually. If the fish stay within the cone (around your boat) then they will show as a straight line on the screen. The angle is because the fish is changing depths while in the cone. Hope this helps
Also check out my video on Fish Finders Explained
I just bought this unit. I think the depth it shows is wrong. It said 50 foot. I dropped my line in and went down about 20 foot. Is there a way to correct this if its wrong?
Yes there is, but you normally only would correct for a foot or so...never would I recommend correcting for 20ft. I would verify the depth again just to be sure...if it is really off by 20ft or more I would return the unit as it is definitely not correct.
I have the Garmin striker 4 with clear view also. Do you know if this has water temp? Thanks for all your Garmin videos!
Yes all the Striker 4s will show water temp
1Cast 1Fish I can't find it or figure out where to find it. Do any of your videos show this function?
@@ThoughtIwasFishin it should be in the upper left corner with the depth data...if not let me know as you may need to change some settings
You are correct...been pointed out a few times...honest mistake on that one...corrected it going forward. Good catch
Any chances of this thing helping me find my fishing pole I lost in the lake? Lol
Probably not...but if you marked a waypoint where you lost it you may be able to fish it back up
Had lousy service with Garmin. Just filed a complaint, and sure they won't care. Found another person sending their Garmin back because it won't read the chip.
Wow...that's not good. I have always had great service from Garmin and Humminbird...Lowrance...now that's another story.
Does anyone have problems with the depth finder not working. It randomly works. Is there anyway to reset it if it’s not showing the depth
Foxtrot 515 turn it off and on
Ok i'm really confused. Your chart shows that the 200KHZ has a wider cone than the 77KHZ. I was under the impression that it is the opposite. Help me understand this.
Sam Hamilton you are correct...I adressed this in some earlier comments...somehow I got them backwards. 😔
Same confused I agree Sam..I think its the opposite but I'll try it out ice fishing with another hole close by..think hes got it wrong.
JEFF HAWKINS ...yep I got it backwards don't know how I mixed them up...but I did. 😐
So if I see fish on the screen, in which direction do I cast? Forward, left, right? And how far of a cast? Thanks.
A scope is real time under the transducer and within the cone.
Is it good for see fishing? Especially on big boats or yachts?
Yes it will see fish fine, but if I was on a bigger boat or yacht....I would definitely spend more money on a bigger unit with more features.
Is this the striker 4 plus? Because my striker 4 doesnt have alot of these features.
This is the standard Striker 4
How do i get my screen back to 1 screen and not split screen? I have tried everything to get it off. Ive tried to reset it and all.
Go to the main menu , go to traditional sonar....should do it ….if not let me know...you may have changed something else.
